Egypt got robbed. Foul on Argentina before the Egyptian goal gets sanctioned. But foul on Salah before the Argentinian goal doesn't. Clearly vested interests got served.

Anyway, very happy for Salah. Egypt showed the best of themselves.

Shocking Aray, Argentina are nothing to be bothered about, bud.

07 Jul 2026 19:54:24
France will tear this Argentina apart.

07 Jul 2026 20:00:43
Not before we do, ArAy.

07 Jul 2026 20:12:29
What do expect. When it comes to Messi and Argentina, they just get away with so much crap, it's pathetic. We saw this the last World Cup and it's evident yet again... We don't want Infantino to suffer, so they got to do everything they can to get Argentina to the final.

07 Jul 2026 20:35:16
Do people genuinely think that's a foul? Really?

I was pushing for Salah and Egypt, but I just thought Salah lost the ball and went into the player? For me, Argentina were too much to handle and had the momentum in the final stretch. I know we like to look for corruption and believe everything we hear, but not for me, this time.

Mango, the issue is, if that’s Argentina, it’s a pen, and case in point was the reason Egypt's goal was disallowed. It was a typical game of double standards from the ref. He was so heavily biased towards Argentina from the beginning of the match. ? Yes, Egypt should have defended better and held on to the lead, but it was 12 men out there against them.

A few teams have been done dirty this World Cup and now that list includes Egypt. I can’t wait for Argentina to get trashed, they don’t deserve to be anywhere near the final.

07 Jul 2026 21:05:05
I'm with you, Mango.

07 Jul 2026 21:15:43
Funny but isn't the argentian leader great friends with president dump

07 Jul 2026 21:47:43
Egypt lost because they couldn't defend. It really is as simple as that.

07 Jul 2026 21:58:40
I agree with Rome and Mango. I wanted Egypt to win, but the foul before the disallowed goal from Egypt was indeed a foul, sadly.

And Salah's alleged foul was not a foul. It's more, even before Argentina's goal, just after, I was complaining at my TV, saying that Salah was doing the same crossover or whatever he did to no success at LFC last season.

Egypt defended poorly, and they gifted the momentum just right after the 2-0.

07 Jul 2026 22:06:01
I was desperate for Egypt to win. Gutted for them. But let's drop the conspiracy theories. The decisions were the correct ones, like Dominican says.

07 Jul 2026 22:19:03
I agree, Rome. Egypt keeper wasn't too hot for the first or second goal.

07 Jul 2026 22:22:34
Let's be honest, World Cup has always done huge favours for home nations and key icons. Remember Japan and Korea when South Korea were basically allowed to ninja kick Italy for a whole 90 mins while Italy were getting multiple yellow cards just for complaining about what should have qualified as assault?

It's nothing new. It shouldn't happen, but we also shouldn't pretend it's just because it's this World Cup.

Messi has been protected by UEFA and FIFA most of his career because he's the cash cow.

For the previous 10 years, when he was in Europe, no player received more positive referee calls than Messi and it was not even close, the next closest player was Musiala and he was 80 decisions behind (incidentally Salah received one of the fewest).

His goal Vs Liverpool is a good example - he runs into Fabinho and fouls him, yet wins a free kick.

Ingerland will do Norway and Argentina IMO. Ingerland Spain final. What odds would Paddy have given you on that last month!?!?

07 Jul 2026 22:58:08
I said England v Spain once the knockouts were decided.

Spain to win.

07 Jul 2026 23:00:39
Don't cry for me, Argentina. They are not the team of old and we will batter them!!

07 Jul 2026 23:19:15
I want them to win because we can then sell MacA as a double World Cup winner n add a few mil. :)

08 Jul 2026 00:05:26
None of them were fouls imo. But it's either none of them are fouls or all of them are fouls; the lack of consistency is what's frustrating.

08 Jul 2026 01:09:34
The clear double standard was evident from the very first game when Messi stomped on the back of somebody's leg. Now I would have been totally fine if that was called yellow, but the fact that it wasn't even reviewed, or worse, it was and nothing came of it. It is an absolute joke. There's no denying that, if it was almost every other player in the world, the call would have been different.

Can he honestly name a time that Argentina did not get a call that favored them? Has any other goal been looked at from the buildup when it happened? 99 yards down the pitch? Again, ask yourself, if it was any other team, would they even have wasted time reviewing it? It's not a conspiracy. It's the truth.

08 Jul 2026 01:09:43
Nice the way we've all started referring to England as 'we'. ??

If we turn up like we did against Me I o, we are a good chance of beating Norway. Let's just hope that we don't have a reaction to the effort put in against Mexico.

08 Jul 2026 01:21:55
Messi is the FIFA darling, everybody knows it.

08 Jul 2026 02:41:39
Rum Lad - Argentina are a pretty c**p team, but, as other posters have mentioned, they are the absolute darlings of FIFA because of Messi. FIFA would have loved nothing more than an Argentina - Portugal final in New York. The armies of Messi - Ronaldo zombies would have tuned in the world over, and idiots from far and wide would have paid $10,000 a ticket for it.

Accordingly, in a match between Argentina and anyone else, do not be surprised if the decisions stink the place out.

08 Jul 2026 02:52:04
The Egyptian playing stood on the dude's foot. It was a foul.

Mo lost the ball in a clean tackle and as the defender goes to move past Mo, who had lost the ball, their feet collide.

If Mo was Messi, then maybe he wouldn't have lost the ball so easily in the duel like he has been all season and season's before (Love Mo btw.

Just getting ahead of the knee jerk Mo defenders ?).

There was no controversy here imo. All the overturn is probably harsh. You could argue it's a coming together.

End of the day, Argentina went and scored 3 good goals in 11 minutes and took the game from Egypt.

08 Jul 2026 03:17:41
The 'Knee jerk Mo defenders' sound like they should be a Hell's Angels formation dance team.

@Chewy, some challenges are fouls and other challenges are not fouls. Not all challenges warrant the same outcome.

08 Jul 2026 04:36:57
To be fair, Argentina were completely dominating the game, and if it wasn't for Egypt's goalkeeper having a worldly, the game would have been dead by half time.

08 Jul 2026 06:14:29
John, that's completely irrelevant. If anything, that simply emphasizes the importance of fair and consistent refereeing. Egypt were underdogs performing above themselves to defeat a stronger opponent, only to run into some officiating that helped the favourites (in every sense) over the line.

08 Jul 2026 15:59:27
Faith, when the foul took place, and you can check on the slo-mo replays, the ball had already passed both players, both were looking up and heading towards the ball. That's when the Egyptian's foot stamped down on the Argentinian. It was entirely unintentional. Nobody runs forward with their head down looking at their feet.

Fine, an unintentional foul is still a foul. Accepted. Then the question of how many passes is the limit before you can go back and disallow, after a goal is scored? Is it 5 passes, 10 passes or 25? How long or how many passes does the "clear error" by the ref. hold, bringing VAR in? It can't be unlimited.
