A question for the eds or anyone else that might have seen him play, Awoniyi, i've just seen he's been granted a work permit for next season, is he expected to leave or be a part of the squad? Has anyone seen him play while he's been on loan? I don't know a great deal about this lad at all, any info?

Rum Lad

{Ed002's Note - Taiwo Awoniyi (S) Doing pretty well in Germany and a buyer will be able to be found there at the right price - and Union Berlin are open to taking him but say Liverpool will need to halve their asking price.}

1.) 18 May 2021 10:35:35
He was once seen as a future star in the game when he helped Nigeria to the u17 world cup whilst he himself was still only 15.

He's never really settled anywhere since with Liverpool packing him off on various loans across Europe with little regard or plan for his future.

Seems to have finally found a club that he fits at this time so hopefully Liverpool do the right thing and let him go for a reasonable price, instead of wrecking his career further.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have asked for €10M from UB.}

2.) 18 May 2021 11:04:49
10 mil? Geez i was expecting you to say 5 mil and Union would be getting a fair price for half of that.

3.) 18 May 2021 10:51:28
Thanks for the responses, another one on the list of messed about young players then, its a habit it seems with us.

4.) 18 May 2021 12:15:13
Hows he been messed around? He's picked up some great experience in different leagues. The lack of a work permit hasn't helped.

5.) 18 May 2021 13:08:08
We allegedly turned down £5m from Anderlecht.

6.) 18 May 2021 13:24:50
If he is good why don't we give him a go?

7.) 18 May 2021 15:43:20
He hasn't picked up great experience though. He was sent to Frankfurt, then Nijmegen, the Mouscron, then Gent, then Mouscron again, then Mainz, and finally Union Berlin. 6 different clubs in 7 seasons across 4 different leagues.

He's never been allowed time to settle because he's basically been sent to whoever paid the highest loan fee or offered the quickest solution. He's never been goven a chance in pre-season or for the reserve teams etc.

He was basically an after thought who's had minimsl resources afforded to managing his career, who Liverpool have held back from getting a transfer by over pricing a player we never had any intention of utilising.

His career epitomises everything wrong with the loan market. He's just shy of 24 years old and he's barely played 100 games in his career because no club has had any reason to persevere with him or invest their own time and energy into him.

I love Liverpool but sometimes you have to call a duck a duck. The clubs let him down.

8.) 18 May 2021 17:13:06
How could he be given a chance without a work permit? Why do people go out of their way to find negativity regarding the club. And if he's only played 100 games that's down to no one else but himself. Seems to be a player that hits purple patches followed by barren spells. Of course a club will persevere with and invest their own time in a player, if he's deemed important enough to them. don't forget these clubs do want him at their club, we don't force him upon them.

9.) 18 May 2021 18:29:34
Okay Jadon. Put yourself in his shoes. 6 times in 7 years he's had to uproot his entire life. Make new friends. Learn a new style of play. Learn a new language.

And for what? What was the plan from Liverpool? There was never any promise of ever getting a chance because as you said he had no work permit. So why did we continue to hold him at the club when their were offers on the table? Would you be happy to be sent off to work in 6 different cities in 7 years with no clarity on what the long term goal was? Or even what your future was within that company? Would you be happy if that company then held you back from changing to a new job where you would be more valued/ important? No you wouldn't.

Why do people act like footballers aren't real people. A loan deal in real life isn't as simple as it is in a video game. You don't see all the hassle it causes the player. To have it happen 7 times in 7 years changing club each time, without any consistency is genuinely negligent in my opinion. I'm not looking for a negative. Search my post history and you'll see i've been very outspoken regarding my hatred of the loan system for the 10 years i've posted here. Liverpool aren't the only culprits.

{Ed0666's Note - at his age if someone was paying me circa 20 large a week to play football every year in 7 different countries, learn new languages and immerse myself in 7 different cultures and let’s face it all those women from all types of places I wouldn’t be complaining too loudly. Hell I would do it now.

10.) 18 May 2021 18:49:50
What Ed said.

11.) 18 May 2021 19:51:53
Ed0666, but you're talking from a position with everything to gain. Awoniyi probably had aspirations of a successful career. Also, go ask Gary Speed if money and fame is all you need to be happy. That's a very ignorant view from you, by your lofty standards. Anybody who thinks we haven't messed him about is kidding themselves out of blind loyalty to Liverpool. I hate the loan system and i wish they'd put a cap on the number of players over the age of 21 that you can loan out so clubs were more responsible with players careers. Big clubs just hoard players.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m assuming you are not coming from an informed position MK. Maybe he was a disruptive influence hence his plethora of moves? Maybe he didn’t fit into certain environments? Maybe he wanted the moves? There’s a lot of variables to loans or maybe he wasn’t related by the academy coaches or the under 23 coaches and they wanted to ship him out to gain experience. I certainly don’t know the ins and outs of this particular situation, I’m merely expressing that if this experience was to befall me at the age the respective player is I wouldn’t be too perturbed.

12.) 18 May 2021 20:18:59
Fair enough mate. I'll agree to disagree. At the end of his career, he'll regret signing for Liverpool as it stands, in my opinion. I'm sure he's made plenty of money and if that's enough for him, then fair enough. All i'm saying is he could've earned plenty of money at one club and potentially progressed as a player to achieve more in the game, and naturally he would then earn more too. I don't believe the current loan system safeguards young players well enough. Maybe Awoniyi is the type of guy to embrace the hand he's dealt and not dwell on what could've been. But a lot of players get lost in the loan system and struggle with their mental health after their careers because they fell from the top or know they could've done more. I'm not trying to be anti-Liverpool. I just hate the loan system. I wouldn't even care if they scrapped it entirely. Maybe i'm viewing it with slight tunnel vision in this instance, as becoming a dad at 21, i'd have been fuming if work had me moving my young family here, there and everywhere with no end in sight. I'd still like Liverpool to do better. I'd rather we set the standard of looking after our players careers, and that might even make us more attractive to the best young talent. No offence intended to you or Jadon Havertz. I didn't mean my last post to sound so prickly.

13.) 18 May 2021 20:56:12
If he'd done enough at any of his loans then one of the clubs would have made a decent offer which Lfc felt reflected his value. Or another team lookin on, but no one has.

14.) 18 May 2021 21:02:36
Did he sign a 7 year contract at 17? 6 loans in 7 years quite possibly means he signed a 2nd contract at Liverpool at some stage. If he's being messed about at the club why would he extend his contract?

15.) 18 May 2021 22:43:57
He has had a number of injuries that have stuffed up a few of his seasons which hasn't helped. But Id have to agree with MK that we couldve done better with him.

16.) 19 May 2021 08:06:16
So scrap the loan system to have him sitting in the hors d’oeuvres for 7 years until his contract runs out and he’s cast off like a piece of rubbish? I’m sure he’d rather be out there playing wouldn’t he?

17.) 19 May 2021 08:41:25
Beckers peckers, if the loan system was refined then teams wouldn't hoard players. I don't want it scrapped entirely. I want a cap on how many aged 21 and over players a club can loan out at one time. Force these powerhouses to let players leave and push on in their careers. Either that or give them a chance in the first team. There is a cap on how many players you can loan in, but not on how many you can loan out. It's wrong in my opinion. It's a way for clubs to get away with false promises to masses of young players and not have to suffer the consequences.

18.) 19 May 2021 09:32:24
I’ve never sat in hors d’oeuvres before BP.

Sure, I’ve lounged in a few desserts and jogged through plenty of main courses, but I have never, even sat in hors d’oeuvres.

What’s it like? Does it leave you wanting more?

19.) 19 May 2021 21:20:13
MK back to your old self I see. Talking claptrap and using some of what the Ed’s say to get favour again. This time you are using the fact Ed says Liverpool do not have great loan system and doesn’t have much of a plan or aftercare.

You don’t know anything about the loan move in question. You don’t know the lad or the situation. You are merely speaking from a position of ignorance but in belief of what you want to hear.

And for you to mention Gary speed is an absolute insult to him and his family. To link these together is disgusting. I don’t normally post but can’t let you get away with this. Engage your brain before typing. And stop parroting what you hear from the Ed’s.

P. s take an extended break again. Cloggin up the site with your nonsense. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else. And it doesn’t make you right even if you text it.

Grow up and get a life!

20.) 19 May 2021 23:14:23
MK - what didn't we do to secure his WP?

21.) 20 May 2021 06:23:01
liverpool are no different from any other club on this topic.

22.) 20 May 2021 12:54:48
Bit extreme TelNewport, to say the least fella.
MK has been contributing on this site for years. I don't its for you to tell anyone to take any breaks.

Rumours all over Twitter that Mane is definitely leaving, thoughts? personally I have zero issues with Sadio getting another challenge into his career before his playing time is over, he's been immense for us and is probably not quite the player he once was for us albeit still a quality player.
If that's true then good luck lad you'll always be a red.

Windows over so let's stop niggling, we all support this great club and this season with fans back it needs a positive voice.
Not only that but i am so sick of the likes of neville writing us off on tv and completely dismissing the club that won the league and CL in recent times.
Did i want a striker in? Yes
Did i want a midfielder? Yes
But that does not mean we aren't going to be up there, this squad is more than capable.
Lets hope for no injury issues and see how we stand at xmas, 4 teams can't all be top no matter who predicts what and i guarantee that west ham, villa, everton, leicester and spurs are stealing points all over the place.
Time for some faith in Klopp and let's see where we're at later on

Rum Lad

1.) 01 Sep 2021 09:21:13
It's Neville's job to write us off. We'll be finishing above United for sure. We have a much better defence and midfield than them. Their attack is slightly better only if Ronaldo and Sancho hit the ground running.

2.) 01 Sep 2021 09:29:02
I love being the under dog. With so many impressive squads many teams will take points off each other this season and it’s likely that 3 even 4 teams could be fighting for the title right up to last weekend including us.

Due to this if we lose one game everyone needs to stop bitchjng and whining about one or two negative results as it will happen to everyone I believe. ManCity, ManU and Chelsea have all done that already to prove my point and we are only three games in.

Going to be a rollercoaster. Enjoy the ride!

3.) 01 Sep 2021 09:41:12
I wish people would stop moaning about transfers. We have a fantastic team and manager, improved our defence and penned our stars to longer deals. Previously they would always leave so we would never progress, relying on Gerrard to drag us up.
As much as I dislike Utd Ronnie coming back to premier league is great. All the other teams have improved too, this is shaping up to be one of the most exciting title fights in years.
I also have high hopes of Jones and Elliott coming to the fore this season…. sit back and enjoy the ride!

31 Aug 2021 18:26:53
Oh dear looks like Chelsea have done a deal for Saul, get ready eds, meltdown incoming.
Got to be honest, id have liked him in the squad.

Rum Lad

1.) 31 Aug 2021 18:37:10
Incoming in 3,2,1 ☄️.

28 Aug 2021 09:12:59
The negativity on here after utd signed a 36 year old past his best is crackers.
Theyve overreacted after city looked liked getting him and splashed a fortune in wages for someone who did nothing at all to help Juventus last season.
Our squad came 3rd last year with all those injuries, do we not have a stronger squad that includes Konate now and Elliot added to the first team squad too?
We can't just keep throwing money away especially in this climate of clubs still recovering from no fans etc, its not xbox fifa.
Think about it, this club is more than capable of winning the league, we've 6 points out of 6 and a chance to put a marker down by beating Chelsea, if its all going wrong by xmas then by all means have a whine but now is definitely not the time.

Rum Lad

1.) 28 Aug 2021 09:22:24
Top scorer in Serie A did “nothing at all to help juventus last season”…. I’ll have some of what your having mate, sounds like potent stuff!

{Ed014's Note - he could be a great signing he maybe not all that only time will tell but Juve bought him in the expectation they’d win the Champions League and they didn’t even get close.

Juve actually felt he was holding them back and they’d be better with out him.

I think he just wanted a move to follow Messi’s lead as his heads so big!

2.) 28 Aug 2021 09:41:16
Utd are building a good team and won't be far away at the end of the season. however, I just can’t see them winning anything with Father Dougal in charge.

3.) 28 Aug 2021 10:12:28
Personally I think it'll be great to see him back in this league. I don't care that he'll be a utd player, good luck to him.

4.) 28 Aug 2021 10:13:38
That's extremely harsh on Fr. Dougal Alan mate😁.

5.) 28 Aug 2021 10:16:42
Hopefully he'll help Utd as much as Bale helped Spuds last season.

6.) 28 Aug 2021 10:39:22
I think it’s good to see Ronaldo back in the PL too.
I can’t recall him being that influential in a Utd shirt against Liverpool though?
And I’d expect that to continue 😀
He’ll do well against the smaller teams, your Brentford, Everton and such like.

7.) 28 Aug 2021 10:50:50
Ronaldo does nothing for Man Utd. Where are the 2 CMs and the RB that they had prioritized at the start of the window?
They ain't winning nowt with Matic and McFred as their midfield, and Pogba is not disciplined enough to play there.
Also who is their first choice GK? Nobody knows, and that's something for that club to be worried about.

8.) 28 Aug 2021 11:34:55
Bit of a sad indictment on Rashford really.

9.) 28 Aug 2021 11:50:04
Triangle- he may have been top scorer in Serie A but they went backwards after he joined. Not sure how much was down to him though but they seemed keen to get rid.

10.) 28 Aug 2021 09:37:44
I actually agree with the overall theme of OP Ed, I’m sure he will score goals but maybe at the expense of someone like Greenwood who’s game time will now surely suffer which is a shame.

Just don’t agree a top scorer with 29 goals did nothing to help.

{Ed014's Note - it wasn’t my thoughts mate, don’t watch Italian football just the clubs thought process.

Beyond yourselves, City and Chelsea there isn’t really much for United to beat and don’t see them as good as any of you 3.

Not a great keeper, still question marks about the defence and McFred in midfield.

11.) 28 Aug 2021 11:09:05
Utd will buckle under the pressure Ronaldo blocks Greenwood’s development and steels Bruno limelight Sancho May struggle to make an impact and their defence is so poor Varane has come to England for a holiday and will not adapt to proper English football awful manager disgusting fans and will continue to come up short in all departments.

08 Aug 2021 18:20:30
If Elliot goes out its madness, more than capable of playing in and around the first team this season.

Rum Lad

1.) 08 Aug 2021 18:31:54
He was prob best player today. A lot of good to take from the game today. Can tell cbs going to take a few games to get up to speed. Hopefully robbo isn’t out for too long.

I'm same JK i've been critical too, I just hope we can keep Mo and Mane instead of having to sell to buy, rumours on twitter about the Fulham lad too Carvalho, don't know how true that is but I personally like both players if this were true.
Ive learned with us not to count my chickens when it comes to transfers ;)

That doesn't really work like that though West does it?
Origi has barely played as he isn't good enough, another quality option when its obvious a natural finisher is often needed is what we shoukd be looking at, the glaring amount of chances wasted up front is crazy at times.
Do City have rotation in their front 3? Of course because they trust the lads in the squad to do a job, Klopp clearly thinks Origi does not, that's why he's not been used not because we don't need the option.

I've nagged for ages that we need a proper number 9, everyone has their own opinion but mine is we need a natural striker, im also not against older, proven players, Ferguson signed Van Persie for 2 seasons to keep winning things, not every signing should be with future resale in mind, I wouldn't think twice about Kane or Lewandowski but I doubt we'd pay their wages.
Fine margins have been against us, another year we win the lot, football hey, it breaks ya heart.
Top and bottom is we had a brilliant season and we need to now sort a few contracts out and know where we are going forward.
Onto next year, YNWA.
