Ronald Araujo played just 11 games last year after taking an extended break from football due to depression (Araujo himself said this so it's not speculation).
So he's not match fit, injury prone, playing in a new team, new league, new culture, new country while also suffering from depression.
I hope the club has a staff psychologist because this is going to be a very rough transition for Ronald.
Please be kind people and remember football players are people too. Can we sign someone to play until Araujo gets up to speed? At least then he'll be ready to play until Jacquet and Leoni get up to speed.
{Ed078's Note - You talking season or calendar year? He played 38 times across all competitions. I applaud a player being honest about their mental health battles (I'm not suggesting you were having a go) and am happy to get behind him and be hopeful.
08 Aug 2026 06:51:26
Yeah, sorry I should have specified calendar year, that did seem misleading.
I'm a sports psychologist who works in football, so I too think it's good he got treatment for his issues. I'm not suggesting it's a point of contention. But depression is never cured; it is like cancer, it's either active or in remission. It's going to be a very hard transition for him here.
New language, culture, place, team, tactics, pressures, weather.
As an immigrant myself, I speak from experience when I say that culture differences play a much bigger difference in quality of life than people realise, and being wealthy doesn't insulate you.
I hope he's a success, but he's going to need a lot of support to do so, and we shouldn't be expecting him to slot right in.
{Ed078's Note - agreed.
08 Aug 2026 07:28:14
Depends, it may have been his first experience of depression, and could be that it's a single episode. Maybe he wanted the move to have a break away from the environment that contributed to his depression. Wealth doesn't insulate you, but it does mean you can afford good therapy. I hope he is a more successful loan than we've had before.
08 Aug 2026 07:55:52
That's a very good analysis, Nevada.
08 Aug 2026 08:26:35
Let's hope it's in remission for the rest of his life then.
08 Aug 2026 02:48:11
Be a real car crash of a window if we spent the whole thing chasing Diomande only to back out, fail to close a deal for Barcola, let Salah go for free and then end up signing an 18 year old back up winger and an injury prone centre back on loan.
08 Aug 2026 07:27:46
Well, we are talking about Hughes, so that's a very real possibility.
08 Aug 2026 00:16:05
Posters on this site genuinely hurt my brain sometimes, you’ve cried we needed a CB/RB to help cover the club look and obviously don’t want to spend more money then needed when they have high hopes for Jaquet and Leoni, got a experience good player but no not that player we don’t want that one… Blows my mind.
Genuinely think whatever the club do won’t be good enough ever. Best fans on the planet supposedly.
08 Aug 2026 08:05:39
We don't or didn't need a CB/RB as cover. We need a starting CB and a starting RB. This is the issue with Araujo. He won't start because he isn't fit. Nevada has an excellent post regarding all the pitfalls that await this man. The club has money and lots of it. Why waste time and effort bringing in someone with such issues and expecting him to succeed? Why not just get Zabyarni on loan from PSG as suggested previously? Why not get Kounde for RB as suggested previously? Signing this guy, be it temporary or otherwise, is nonsensical.
Chewy, VV and others have it right in comparing this to Melo and Caulker. He may not be as poor as those, but he very well could be just as bad. There's much much better out there than this.
08 Aug 2026 08:33:15
What annoys me is when people say, 'just go and get Kounde' or whoever. Maybe they don't want to come, maybe their club isn't willing to sell?! I at least have expected the club to have enquired about others. I am sure I saw reports somewhere (may have even been in here) that Zab didn't want to leave PSG. I think we all want the top top players here, but those players and their clubs have a choice.
As LFC supporters, our club is the greatest and everyone should want to come, but I expect outside our red bubble maybe it's not the case. I am a little nervous on how this season will go, but what will be will be. For my own mental health I've learned to try and not get too depressed by results anymore if they don't go our way. Just smile and roll with it.

We've only gone and signed the Uruguayan Joe Gomez.
Dickie boy is playing an absolute stormer.
I expect massive signings elsewhere to make up for this shambles.

Welcome, Ronald Araujo - good loan DC signing for the year.
07 Aug 2026 23:36:40
No disrespect intended to anybody providing information or rumours on the forum, but I think it is genuinely funny (ha ha funny) that the two players we have brought in since the window opened - Munoz and Araujo - didn’t get a mention at all.
Anybody want to speculate on the next signing?
{Ed078's Note - it happens every season, that's football.
08 Aug 2026 07:11:42
I've been reading this site for years and it's always been the same. Throw enough turd and eventually some sticks.
There's been plenty of signing though that nobody has ever mentioned.
I hope I'm wrong, but do question that if Barcola is done then why hasn't it been announced. I understand he gets 3 weeks off, but so does Munoz.
08 Aug 2026 08:43:29
It's a rumours site and we do look at a lot of players (some for years). If I said Liverpool were interested in Mycael, it doesn't mean we will sign him.
07 Aug 2026 23:01:18
Welcome to LFC, Araujo.
07 Aug 2026 23:51:41
Well said, mate.
08 Aug 2026 02:22:21
Mate, well said.
08 Aug 2026 03:48:40
I predict that when the supporters see how combative Araujo is and when he wins his first few duels (very good at it), he will become a crowd favourite.
Still waiting in anticipation for Gavi or another (marquee) to come in for midfield though as quoted by Vic.
08 Aug 2026 04:02:46
Said well, mate.
08 Aug 2026 06:26:17
Mate, said well.
07 Aug 2026 22:57:43
There's the first deal, expect the next one very soon as well. ⌛
07 Aug 2026 23:25:55
We are at non homegrown limit, so someone also has to go.
07 Aug 2026 23:38:51
You are either a wizard or Richard Hughes, there is no in between.
Ken
07 Aug 2026 23:54:21
We can sign who we like; doesn't matter who we sign, only matters who we register. There's plenty of time to flog off some fodder anyway.
08 Aug 2026 00:00:41
No, we're not at the non-HG limit for EPL, and teams tend to buy before they sell in case the ones they want to buy are not available.
07 Aug 2026 22:53:15
Ronald Araujo to sign on loan from Barcelona for the year. Done deal. Good player, but has a horrible injury record.
07 Aug 2026 23:26:42
20+ separate injuries over career.
08 Aug 2026 00:31:44
Just what we need, another injury prone player.
