Bazzinga, it's possible if the club gave permission for talks to begin with the players. It seemingly happened with Kerkez and Wirtz for us too, that an agreement for a contract with the player was reached first before an agreement with the club for the fees involved.

From what I’ve seen of Rodrygo I don’t think he is anything special but all the time at real he has played on the wrong side of the pitch so if he comes to us it would not surprise me if he turns out better than I thought.
