Well sounds like first bid for Ekitike been turned down anyone got any idea what we have bid. Is it like the Wirtz deal more add ons and payments structure or are they after all upfront.

Agree5 Disagree0

Dont think he's worth the €100m they were looking for at the start of the summer. If they're still asking for that it'd be a no for me.

17 Jul 2025 21:20:14
I can’t make a judgment Florian only seen a little bit of the spurs games last season.
But I gave up of what player are worth years ago.

17 Jul 2025 21:21:51
Think the 100m (£86.5m) is his release clause but imagine we're trying to get him cheaper.

17 Jul 2025 21:34:33
Florian, to be fair he’s worth whatever the asking club want for him.

If we walk away the options are limited to sticking with Nunez or wasting money on cheaper low quality options like Watkins or Wissa. Neither of whom are remotely good enough.

Ultimately it’s reported that Frankfurt have asked for £77m, so we’re £7m off, feels like a compromise will be reached. The player only wants to join us and we’re keen to sign him.

17 Jul 2025 21:36:13
I would rather we play Rodrygo (if he comes) through the middle as 9. He’s only a year older than Ekitike but much further ahead in terms of ability and experience. Frankfurt has overpriced him. We spent similar amounts on Nunez as a project/ potential. You want the finished product if you’re paying the prices quoted.

17 Jul 2025 21:37:10
Just read that Ekitike has handed in a transfer request to make the move happen.

17 Jul 2025 21:50:11
If the lads who decided on Salah Firmino Mane decide he’s worth 200m then I’d say pay it.

17 Jul 2025 22:28:42
Whoever Arne Slot wants, I want, should be moving heaven and earth to get what he needs for number 21.

17 Jul 2025 22:32:24
Have to agree with Milan Baros here.

17 Jul 2025 22:35:02
Trouble is they don't always get it right onekiss, not every transfer is nailed on to be a success, nunez keita chieza are examples off top of my head.
Victor, you seem confident in him? Can I ask what your seeing?

17 Jul 2025 23:11:55
Klopp insisted on the club signing Keita and Nunez.
Chiesa was always a cheap sixth choice that was a punt.

Let’s not re-order history.

17 Jul 2025 23:13:25
To be fair Victor, he’s worth what a club are willing to pay rather than what his club want for him.

17 Jul 2025 23:20:12
Personally think Rodrygo through the middle would terrible. He’d get absolutely battered and he hated playing there at Madrid.

Snoots, Ekitike is the best of the rest, our list was apparently Isak (which Newcastle don’t want to sell and don’t need to), Ekitike, Sesko, Osimhen, Watkins, Matteta, Wissa and we were laughably linked to Trashford. Since Isak is a non starter as Newcastle don’t want to sell and Osimhen is a non starter due to his excessive wage demands and De Laurentiis being a pain to negotiate with it’s a straight choice between Ekitike and Sesko, as the others simply aren’t good enough. He’ll be fine:

17 Jul 2025 23:45:22
Rodrygo doesn't want to play as a 9. He wans to be on the left. Also he'd get bullied hard by CBs.

Ekitike doesn't look that strong but at least he's got good height and can work on his strengthening.

18 Jul 2025 01:11:43
Lijnders was a big advocate of the Nunez deal.

18 Jul 2025 05:12:31
Does Gyokeres not want to come to LFC he would be cheaper.

18 Jul 2025 05:57:02
Pretty sure Lijnders was responsible for anything that has gone wrong in the last decade especially inflation and the housing crisis. If he hadn’t have written that damn book…….

18 Jul 2025 06:42:53
Danny Ings would be cheaper, let’s sign him.

18 Jul 2025 07:52:58
Good one, IDreamOfGin! I wonder when folk on here will stop talking about him?

18 Jul 2025 08:03:28
Ings had already had a very good season in the Premier League in fairness by the time he was Ekitike's age. its not my money and i hope the guys a success but there's a point at which we should be walking away from any deal. Real and PSG have been burnt by agreeing to Eintrachts crazy valuations over the last few years.

18 Jul 2025 08:26:01
I doubt many people commenting here have really that much experience of watching the lad?!

Similarly of Isak (who had a lessor strike and assist rate before joining Newcastle) and Nunez (a better one? ) all in different, and, what most people call, weaker leagues.

Me, I do try to watch some further games where I see a player I really like in a one off and therefore watched a fair bit of BL football simply because the first time I saw our already signed new £116m (or whatever it was) I thought now this player is going to be the best German player since my prior favourite Lothar M!

But it’s not a norm for me, nor I suspect many others, and I therefore have limited view on this lad (the odd Frankfurt game and some YouTube cuts) . However, our scouts are there to do a job and therefore see a load more and sometimes they will get it right sometimes wrong.

I’ve said it before and will again it is less about the past anyway it is more about making the obvious talent fit and the player developing accordingly in a team environment. It is not the obvious talent or past that sorts that it’s about the recognising a potential fit and making that fit then player desire, work rate, respect for the team listening, learning etc that makes the buy a successful one.

Whoever we sign I wish them success for the team and us fans!

YNWA.

18 Jul 2025 09:04:07
If they don’t think he’s worth it they won’t pay it.

If they think he is they will.

Doesn’t mean they’ll get it right of course, but it is what they’re paid to do.

18 Jul 2025 09:04:20
I don't think we should sign either Rodrygo or Ekitke.

We shouldn't be dealing with Real full stop and the other is overpriced and hyped up after 1 good season.

18 Jul 2025 09:09:16
Didn’t gyokeres, have trials at Everton and they declined and a couple of seasons at was it Swansea? The thing with all these players that puts me off is the rich clubs that usually pay big haven’t taken a chance? So much so Bayern paying £100 million for Kane at 30 thinking that was better option.

{Ed001's Note - no, it was when he was at Coventry, they had the chance to sign him but turned it down. It might even have been when they signed Maupay, which would make it doubly funny. It was less than £30m that they would have paid. They were worried about his lack of pace.}

18 Jul 2025 10:25:35
Apologies first time poster
Given the amount we were going to spend on Isak, would that amount not prise Alvarez away from atletico? I always assumed he was our number 1 target? Or is that option totally dead in the water.

18 Jul 2025 11:14:02
Jonno, he (more importantly his wife) doesn’t like living in the NW of England. That’s part of the reason he moved to Spain (another being a lump called Haaland! )

The clubs may agree, but the player doesn’t want to come back to the UK.

18 Jul 2025 11:48:21
About Keita, it’s true that Klopp wanted him strongly, but so wanted Ian Graham and the data team. For Nunez it’s a different case. the data team clearly indicated that Isak was the striker to get and Klopp decided to go for Nunez.

18 Jul 2025 13:58:48
Gin, I mean it's true though. Lijnders has ties to Portuguese football and it's no secret he had growing influence within the club while Klopp wanted to have more power over the recruitment team which he then delegated to Lijnders. There was an article in the Telegraph about how Lijnders pushed for Konate, Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo. Some have worked out better than others.
