To attest to Akira, my understanding also is that Slots position is not in question. The unrest off the pitch is predominantly a handful of players that aren’t particularly happy with their role in the squad currently, but that’s going to happen anywhere. The club are still happy to offer Slot an extension.
However, playing the HIGHLY hypothetical game of the club having no choice but to move Slot on - if it ever got that bad - I imagine the first choice would be Bournemouths Iraola.
The Spaniard has a great relationship with Richard Hughes.
20 Oct 2025 09:47:22
Which players would that be? Most the regulars from last season are still starting and surely the new ones would expect to have a transition period bedding in unless we bought some bad apples?
Tbh I think we have a big problem at CF and I can see Ekitike not being happy playing second fiddle to Isak. Also looked levels above Isak when he came on yesterday so deserves to start.
20 Oct 2025 10:15:45
Ekitike should be starting before isak every game for me.
He was in great form before his shirt mistake, I haven't seen anything from Isak yet that says he should be starting.
20 Oct 2025 10:21:46
Chiesa came on again and was our best player by a mile. Created a goal, put himself about.
He should be first name on the team sheet as it stands.
20 Oct 2025 10:27:10
I couldn’t agree more personally. Slot has my full backing and will continue to do so, but I cannot understand for the life of me why Chiesa is not getting starts.
20 Oct 2025 10:28:58
Its not the players you think. Think of the superstars. Slot doesn't want to start either but has no choice due to lack of options.
20 Oct 2025 10:39:05
If Salah can’t be dropped because of lack of options, then that’s ridiculous. Frimpong did more in 5 minutes yesterday than Mo has done in the last 5 games.
20 Oct 2025 10:45:49
Hi both Akira and Victor thanks for the info. I know I’m clutching but have you heard the klopp interview with Steven barlett diary of a ceo where he mentions that he could come back and coach pool. I know I’m clutching here but if slot doesn’t make it to the end of the season or we look to replace him in the summer, any chance of klopp 2.0? I might be wrong but klopp with these players could be something incredible.
20 Oct 2025 11:13:59
Salah should have been given a hero’s send off after winning the league. Virg is still ok but on the decline.
Tbh what’s not working is having 3 goal scoring forwards in gakpo, Isak and Salah. No creativity and no workrate. All just want to score and they aren’t even finishing the chances they get.
Time for slot to show his metal - play your new players and build a team. Even if we don’t win the league no problem but we need to see an identity and evolution to set us up for next year.
20 Oct 2025 12:47:25
What a load of tosh we don't have the options, the system is the problem and trying to get the new guys to play the way we did last season and not to their strengths instead, Kerkez is an awful inverted fullback, not his strength at all, Isak, Ekiteke and Wirtz have to play up top, Wirtz behind the 2 of them, Grav, Macca an Szob behind them and the fullback play as they should, providing the width.
20 Oct 2025 12:59:24
If a player is playing that badly then there are always options.
20 Oct 2025 14:42:38
Salah is a weird one. It feels like Klopp’s team and indeed last season we relied on him completely.
I actually think we did. His form was a closely correlated with our results. Luckily we had the best of Mane who would often step up when Salah was off colour.
So basically I wonder if our success over the Klopp era + 1 was largely down to Salah being so consistently brilliant.
Last season Salah had a chip on his shoulder (no new contract) and carried this team. When his form dropped off, so did ours to a large extent.
Whenever you have to move on from a player who is so pivotal, for so many years, it’s going to be very difficult. Same when Gerrard left, same to a much lesser extent when Suarez left.
I think we have recruited well this season but there are still holes. Isak, Wirtz and Ekitike are excellent signings, but the team is still trying to find its new identity.
I think Salah might go in January.
20 Oct 2025 16:22:36
For me the current state of the team is down to tactics and not players being out of form necessarily. Yes Salah is well off it. I agree w AAgenda that the system is the problem.
Isak getting some stick but he's not getting a look in. We have to play to our strengths and for me that's Wirtz behind Ekitike and Isak and we play our mid 3 behind. Like to see the full backs get up the pitch. I don't recall seeing Bradley at the byline this season. Yesterday he passed to Mo then took about 5 steps backwards to get back "into position. " Last season he would have gone beyond Mo dragging the opponent out of position and allowing Mo to move inside. Same with Gakpo on the left, just glued to the touchline. Gakpo seems undroppable and although he's not a bad player he's not as good as other options for me and he's a limited player. But he seems to be a Slot favourite which is a head scratcher for me. I think Gakpo and Mo are killing us at the minute.
We have width right now but it's static. We need to add speed and some depth behind the width. For me that's a 4-3-1-2 formation but it means we play a lot more like a Klopp team than a Slot one.
Is the manager willing to change? Not a proponent for making a change but if he can't make this squad tick I support the club first.
20 Oct 2025 21:32:47
What would the reason be behind not wanting to start Virgil and Salah, after last season? Salah albeit not in great form but was one of the best in the world last season, Virgil seen by many as the best cb in the world, again had a poor game at the weekend, so why would the manager decide he doesn’t want to play either is a very worrying sign, especially now his system is getting us found out regularly.
20 Oct 2025 23:15:33
Ron i think Mo will find some form eventually but to get the best out of Wirtz Ekitike Isak something needs to give, so for me we drop Mo and change formation.
We've done such a good job with recruitment over the years without spending as much as others. We finally drop bank this summer and we were all eagerly anticipating seeing these new players banging in 3-4 goals a game. I was imagining the days of Keegan Toshack, Dalglish Rush, Beardsley Barnes Aldridge Rush, Gerrard Torres, Bobby Mo Sadio.
But what we're now seeing on the pitch doesn't jive with the players that have come in. I honestly don't see a pattern or set up that I can look at and say oh that's how Slot wants to play. I just don't get it.
As I posted a day or so ago, I think we should have signed a LCB who can play LB, a CB and a DM and one of Isak/ Ekitike. Right now Ekitike looks the more capable player. But, would the set up be changed to suit those players? I don't know. I honestly don't know what Slot is trying to achieve. Last season we would have drooled at the thought of one of Isak/ Ekitke leading the line. So why is it not working now?
Clearly Slot is a much more capable coach than any of us on here, yet the mistakes he's making seem so glaringly obvious to us all, and to make it worse, it's the same thing game after game. It might be getting worse in fact.
Slot spends a lot of time talking up the opposition and what we need to do to fix our defensive issues, but for the life of me I can't see what he's doing to make them worry about US. Neville said yesterday on paper he was worried for United playing us at Anfield. Every team that plays us should be worried about the attacking power that we now have. But Slot has 2-3 of our best attacking and/ or in-form players on the bench because in his eyes they are not working for a myriad of reasons. He convinced Wirtz to come to us over Bayern apparently; what did he say would be his role? Has he kept his word to Wirtz? I can't imagine what we're seeing on the pitch would have been a successful sales pitch, no pun intended.
So he goes tried and tested yesterday and still came up empty handed. Why? Well again I think we're not asking questions of these supposed low blocks yet they are running us ragged in defense game after game. It's not being addressed. I think a coach like Rafa would come in and first set us up to not concede then worry about the other end. Slot doesn't seem to know how to fix either.
We were running united ragged yest with Wirtz Hugo Chiesa on the pitch. I don't recall having to do much defending in those 20 minutes. Again, let the opposition worry about what we're going to throw at them.
Slot has clear problems of his own making imo. Yesterday i posted he was going tried and tested from last season bar Kerkez Isak and the goalie.
It failed not because of the players but how he's telling them to play. Kerkez is not a playmaker from LCB and Bradley isn't affecting anything just passing to Mo and then looking over his left shoulder to make sure he's in the right position alongside Konate.
Slot seems to have gone from flexible last season to inflexible this season and at the end yesterday I'd call it desperate. Not what we want from our head coach.
Big week for the club bigger week for Slot. Let's see if he's capable and in charge. I def have my doubts.
21 Oct 2025 08:08:04
The superstars may be disgruntled because of their perception of the form or quality of others. In VVD case I’d get it as defensively we haven’t been good enough at all, although I’d include the whole team in that not just the new young players. Mo may be disgruntled because he’s not the focal point anymore, and gets less of the ball so is left hanging out wide while most of the action goes down the other wing or the centre.
That’s just us evolving as a team, tough as it may be for him to be part of. The only one who could be excused is Robbo, but I would hope he realises he’s there to support and help develop Kerkez and will get game time if things don’t settle.
21 Oct 2025 08:39:44
I'd like to see us line up a 4-2-2-2, with Gravy and Macalister sitting in behind wirtz and Szoboslai as two tens, and give Ekitike and Isak a chance to play together up top. Dom will drift right, Wirtz left and Ekitike likes to drop off more to be involved in build up.
This would give us a solid base with two sixes, Dom and Wirtz both work hard out of possession anyway and can press high, and then full backs can push on.
21 Oct 2025 09:53:43
Without being in The know my guesses would be
Frimpong unhappy he isn’t playing
Kerkez unhappy he is being played as if he is a hybrid Trent/ Calafiori spending most of the game narrow inside the LW
Jones unhappy that he barely features
Chiesa unhappy as he doesn’t get any reward for his positive performances even after he has had a solid pre-season and after a season Slot said it was hard to pick him due to having no pre-season
Ekitike unhappy because Isak turned up unfit and started playing ahead of him
Wirtz unhappy because he was sold a dream of being a 10 behind the striker and now seems to be scapegoated to the bench and then brought on to play LW, although he got a cameo as a hybrid 8/ 10/ LW
Endo unhappy as he is an after-thought
Rio unhappy as he seemingly earned more minutes then disappeared
I mean, pure speculation of course hahahahaha but Incould understand if there is a bit of unrest especially in a new squad.
21 Oct 2025 13:58:48
I feel the plan might well have been, Frimpong, Wirtz, Kerkez, Guehi and one of Isak/ Ekitike, and the tragedy of Jota put paid to Guehi getting done in July, and the need for 2 Number 9s to make up the forward numbers (as Nunez and Diaz were always likely to leave) .
It's possible that the alternate plan was 3-5-1-1 Ali Guehi/ Konate/ VVD Frimpong and Kerkez as Wingbacks, Grav/ Macca/ Szobo in the middle and Wirtz behind the Number 9 with the width from the Full backs, the subs then change the shape as required in game.
21 Oct 2025 14:38:24
Loft, I doubt the plan was to drop Salah after the season he had and after he signed a huge contract.
No one could foresee he would struggle so badly lately.
21 Oct 2025 15:08:20
Lofty, we had the money for Guehi and had the deal all but wrapped up until Glasner threw a fit. It has nothing to do with the loss of Jota and the lack of funds. I think the plan was to bring in Guehi and have him play alongside Vvd as a Konate replacement, instead of in a back three.
Anyway, I think it's amusing though how Utd fans are all claiming that a back three doesn't work in the league and want their manager to revert to a back four whereas we are advocating for the exact opposite to happen for our team.
21 Oct 2025 20:33:38
Red_Flyer69 - I agree. I too have my doubts re Slot. This is a totally new structure to work in, one where he is spoon fed players and expected to make them work.
21 Oct 2025 21:41:22
Doc Slot has to show that he's learning tomorrow. We need to see personnel (not just standard rotation) and tactical changes.
I don't want to hear about long balls (we had more than united), opposition not allowed to score from set pieces or crosses, etc., etc.
We have a ferrari in the driveway and we're driving it like an oil tanker.
21 Oct 2025 21:42:14
Everything is so slow, the build up, passing back to the goalkeeper, we should be annihilating teams yet we let them come on to us, more urgency is needed.
21 Oct 2025 21:50:29
We are 1 point from second place Man city. Three points from top place Arsenal. We have had a really poor start to the season and people are wanting our manager sacked!
The man won the premier league last season and people want him out unbelievably from reds fans .
How fickle reds fans have become we have had the best ten years picking up trophies along the way and because we have a blimp they
want the manager sacked .
I am not happy with the way we are playing and losing games in the last minutes but we all jumped for joy when we won our games in the last minutes so let's all take it on the chin and move on .
YNWA.
22 Oct 2025 07:34:19
iwillbreed - I agree but it’s not lost on me that a couple months ago it was “we’re still top of the league”. Then weeks later it was “we’re 1 point off the top”. And now it’s “we’re 1 point off second and 4 points off the top”.
lol the trend is heading one direction. Time to turn that around!
24 Oct 2025 02:55:41
Akira, lack of options?! Outside of CB we currently have an abundance of options pretty much across the board. Sure, we don't have a RW "specialist" who can directly replace Salah but Frimpong, Chiesa, Wirtz are all capable of filling that position, and putting any of them at RW would not leave us short on any other part of the pitch.
25 Oct 2025 09:27:39
Some of you need to go and support the Harlem Globetrotters, if you cannot stand losing.
Yes, Salah is woefully out of form at the moment and he has lost a lot of pace and his first touch. Is it because of Jota or age finally catching up with him? Who knows but Slot dropped him and rightly so.
Konate and Van Dijk both stroll around, play when they feel like it and are not helping the new fullbacks bed in. But it is Kerkez and Frimpong’s fault?
We have too many players making the wrong decision in the final third, that is not on Slot.
Wirtz is slowly getting the recognition he deserves, when our players break their habit of looking for Salah first and go to Wirtz, his runs will become game changers. At the moment hardly anyone picks him out. He also passes the ball fast and hard, not tippy-tappy like our midfield have lazily become accustomed to, which Salah is really struggling with.
Chiesa, Jones and Ekitike seem to be on Wirtz’ wavelength, no surprise there as they are three of our most technical players.
Slot needs to start picking all three (based on current form) because Isak, Salah and MacAllister are not match fit (mentally or physically? ) after at least 8 games.
Time to start building a team, not playing stars. We are Liverpool, not the Harlem Globetrotters.
