Think it is fair to say Harvey Elliott will be coming back to Liverpool, rather than Aston Villa activating the clause in his contract. I can see an agreement being reached and him coming back in January, as Emery clearly wants nothing to do with him.
What a complete waste of Elliott's time.

Training issues. Emery isn’t a fan of his work ethic.

Emery not a fan. Slot not a fan. Klopp sorta used him, but never really as first choice.
Maybe he's just not as good as we think he is?

He’s not good enough for us sadly! He can’t run!

I am surprised that there are concerns about Elliot's work ethic because when he was here, I always thought that effort was the least of his problems. I fact, I think he tried too hard sometimes too, especially during matches.
Maybe Emery just isn't the right coach for him and AV isn't the right team. Elliot is a bit of a strange player too. He can play in multiple positions but he doesn't seem to have one which seems to be his best. I think he is a no.10 personally but he lacks that extra something that all top no. 10s have. Same goes when he plays as a CM or RW as well.

Great vision and technically sound but lacks the pace to play out wide and the physicality and positional sense to play in the centre at the very top level. Not sure there's an issue with his work ethic though, whenever iv seen him play he's been a grafter.
Shame because after the Euros I doubt his value will be higher than what it was in the summer. Hope he either steps up for us or finds a club where he can thrive.

Personally think he should have moved abroad would of been better for him or rejoined Fulham.

Happy to have him back. Great squad player in my opinion.
07 Nov 2025 08:09:13
Bring him home, I’d keep him just for the wind up of richarlson.

Just because someone says “training issues” doesn’t really provide any real information, does it? Based on his time at Liverpool I’d incline to believe that he has a strong work ethic.

I love Elliott as a person. As a player he's pretty average though if we're brutally honest. If he's happy to spend his career as a bench warmer at Liverpool, I have nothing against him doing so.
The great Manchester United and Chelsea sides always had multiple players who made careers out of being squad players. Park Ji Sung, Darren Fletcher, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, John Obi Mikel, Soloman Kalou, Wayne Bridge etc. There is no reason why Elliott can't do something similar for us if he would be happy with a career like that.
Unfortunately for Elliott, I think if he wants to be a regular he needs to take a significant step down. I personally think Wolves, Leeds, Burnley, Fulham etc is his level with regards to where he'd be a key player.

Silly question but is the extra hard work he had at the club a case of his dreams had come true, it must be a bit deflating for the poor lad to make it at the club he dreamed of only to be let go.
I imagine walking into the AXA every day or Anfield would give him that extra 10% because it is everything he ever wanted.

Elliot is a great kid and loves the club but sadly he is just not good enough to be playing week in week out for us, he needs to move to a team like Leeds or a top level championship club.
07 Nov 2025 12:20:48
But surely RedQ at Liverpool he also had to know he wouldn't be starting most games. i'd have thought he'd be training even harder at villa where he'd fancy his chances of actually getting in the 11.Harvey mightnt be good enough to be an elite footballer but he's definitely good enough to make 10 appearances in all comps over the season for Aston Villa.

If Jones is good enough Elliot is good enough. Simple. Elliot will need to consider however if he wants to be like Jones which is a squad player or a regular starter. Elliot always got on with it and never complained. As for Slot not being interested in him, he’s not interested in Chiesa either despite him being one of our better players this season.
07 Nov 2025 12:58:27
To be honest, I’d play him over salah…. salah isn’t bring anything to the table this season., so why not try something different? Chiesa, Elliott, anyone would be better at the moment than salah. Sorry, this might sound harsh but even in the last two games, he couldn’t get past anyone, kept losing the ball and then misplacing passes.
07 Nov 2025 13:13:22
RB Leipzig were keen on Elliott that would have been a great move for the kid.
07 Nov 2025 13:26:38
Highly likely he is good enough to make those 10 appearances FM but not good enough for AV to want to sign full time, thus he will not actually make them unfortunately.
If it is the case conversations need to be had in Jan to cut it short and try something new for all involved. Currently feels like a waste of both clubs and the players time.
07 Nov 2025 14:20:57
Poor loan if you ask me, he should have gone to the Bundesliga, he’d had absolutely killed it out there but he’s wasted a year of his career.
07 Nov 2025 15:28:22
Buendia already out Red, only takes another injury to Villa's attack and Emery might have no choice but to stop acting the maggot and give the kid a fair go.
