Evening.

Stop believing everything you read, most of the players being linked via media sources is just guesswork or players that have previously been linked. We have the funds to buy what we need, the winter window is more difficult and prices tend to be higher because its mid season.

Guehi, my sources continue to say he wants to move to us and a Jan deal is being pushed for, it may drag out till towards the end of the window tho. Its gone quiet on the alternative front, which means 1 of 2 things. They have identified the main alternative or there isn't one being looked at. The latter is most likely.

Semenyo. Nothing has been agreed with Citeh, they have done nothing but register possible interest. So a deal is far from done. By all accounts its Hughes who is the idiot behind us not getting it done. We are looking at alternatives, no news on that currently.

With Isak being injured, no new striker permanently or on loan will be coming in. Danns was always seen as the 3rd striker this season, so I would expect to see him getting game time once fully fit.

A midfielder will only be sought if players leave in that area.

I'm away until New Years Day, so I wanted to give you all a little something before.

So Hughes doesn't want him? (strange as he signed him before) or he's just made a mess of trying to sign a player that apparently wants us over anybody?

27 Dec 2025 19:15:33
Cheers, Thefields. Have a great break!

27 Dec 2025 20:10:58
Let's hope Hughes pulls his fingers out then, as this starting XI might be a bit more convincing than what we've seen of late:

Alisson
Bradley Guehi Van Dijk Kerkez
Gravenberch Jones
Szoboszlai Wirtz Semenyo
Ekitike

LFC has only scored 3 fewer than the league leaders, but conceded 15 more, so doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the defence, especially Konate has been the primary problem this season. Can trace it back to his horror show at Craven Cottage in April and he hasn't been the same since. If they can't get Guehi in January, surely they have to bring in another centre back urgently.

great info TF. Have a great holiday.

27 Dec 2025 20:58:41
Thanks The Fields

Danns is a perfectly good 3rd choice striker IMO. Players need to play.

27 Dec 2025 21:10:41
The only signing this coming window, should be a shrink! Will someone tell these players to stop throwing themselves to the ground over nothing! Every week now!
Ekitike, Macca, Konate, Kerkez and Frimpong, grow a pair, and get on with it!

27 Dec 2025 21:20:26
while Chiesa played a part in Gravenberch's opening goal, he was largely ineffective down the right wing, minimally involved and lacking the vim and vigour that was required to catch Slot's eye. He was branded with a match-low 5/ 10 score.

27 Dec 2025 22:13:55
I like Danns Ron, but not sure how he can be a perfectly good option if he's never fit. Poor lad has had a horrid run of injuries over a long period now. Even when he went on loan he barely played because of injury.

Hopefully can overcome it as he has undoubted quality and a likeable attitude but he certainly can't be relied upon at the current point in time.

27 Dec 2025 22:47:24
I too like Danns - talented lad - but if Ekitike gets injured do we want him leading the line in the latter stages of the UCL, or as we try and claw our way to top 3 respectability in the EPL? And as the last poster said, he hasn’t played much, due to injuries.

Not even saying we should be an endless cash machine; maybe there’s a half decent CF we can loan even? (E. G. Gonçalo Ramos)

27 Dec 2025 23:15:18
@What a hit, I don’t think Ibou is acting- I just think he falls over because he’s clumsy.

28 Dec 2025 01:01:35
He went down clutching his head, Wdw. It was acting for me. He lost out on the header and decided to go down and feign injury instead. Eki was another who went down clutching his throat when the Wolves player brushed his chest.

@what a hit, Not sure why you lumped Kerkez in with them though. He got kicked in the midriff by Andre twice and still got on with the game. Andre should have seen another yellow for that and a subsequent red tbh.

28 Dec 2025 01:14:33
Sorry, not sure what Danns has done to justify 3rd striker role? Scored one goal in a final!

I think he is slow, injury prone and now we are reliant on Hugo. Keeping Nunez was a better option!

28 Dec 2025 01:41:06
Danns perfectly good 3rd choice CF WHEN FIT! that's his biggest problem. But you can't go out nd buy a forward when isak'llbe back in 3r4 months. Dannswhen fit will surprise people.

28 Dec 2025 06:17:30
Konate 100% not acting up. He's a clumsy giraffe.

28 Dec 2025 06:51:35
@Drac - agree with you re the clutching of his head - there was nothing up with hi, other than him being a poor actor in this instance but more often than not it’s him being clumsy and unbalanced more than acting. He’s nowhere near the Macca Academy Award class.

28 Dec 2025 09:37:53
The fields obviously doesn't like Hughes the silver-tongued charlatan. How could he have messed up Semenyo Transfer though? His record so far has been very good (in terms of getting deals over the line at least) .

Maybe Semenyo has had his head turned by a more stable project.

{Ed001's Note - yet we missed out on multiple centre-backs during the summer, so not sure his record has been that good. All the ones we signed were keen to join us without needing persuasion. And obviously Guehi as well, who was very keen but was blocked. It is the extra centre-back, who would have been rotation/cover/long term replacement, that needed persuading and yet we didn't get one. So we have yet to see any sign that he can persuade players, though I would not judge him on that as so far it is a small sample size and a player that did not seem as urgent as it has turned out to be.

What does worry me is his willingness to just pay through the nose for every target. Every single player we signed, we paid the full asking price for. In the long term, you just can't keep paying full price for every player, even Real Madrid have realised it is unsustainable.}

28 Dec 2025 09:58:18
Small fish big pond Ed. Hughes has a track record at a small club, where he did very well, but you are right, there have been no Robbo kind of deals and we have paid top $ for most of our buys.

It all seems messy at the moment . Slot is not the long term solution, but who is? Who's tactics do we buy for?

BTW any truth in the Serbian Andy Carroll rumours?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know who the Serbian Andy Carroll is.}

28 Dec 2025 10:14:01
Vlahavoic or whatever his name is (Juve CF soon to be out of contract)

28 Dec 2025 10:32:05
Although we’ve paid top dollar we run a fairly lean squad. We don’t have many positions where we have two current internationals vying for a spot in the team. Arguably only City and Arsenal have that real depth and competition for places.

28 Dec 2025 10:38:10
Leoni is the only one that might turn into a shrewd siginging, such a shame he picked up the injury.
Not quite an £8m Couthino or £2m ish Hyppia bargain admittedly.

28 Dec 2025 10:54:25
Young players pick up injuries, it happens a lot (Gerrard? ) . If they don’t they tend to get over played as youngsters and burn out early (Owen, Torres) .

I’m not worried about Danns’ teenager injuries, they’re not long-term.

Would I be happy with him in the latter stages of the champions league?
Anyone who remembers 2005 will be cool with it. When your best striker options are Neil Mellor and a young Florent Sinama Pongolle yet you still get to, and win, the final then you are a bit less dramatic over ‘potential’ injuries.

28 Dec 2025 11:52:53
Ha ha - I remember 2005 and I’m not ‘cool with it, ’ perhaps that makes me ‘dramatic’, maybe I just want us to win trophies and proven players significantly increase the percentage of that. Peace though, this is all tongue in cheek I’m sure.

28 Dec 2025 15:16:22
Ed - which CBs did we miss out on in the summer please?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - Ait Boudlal is one of the top of my head, I can't remember the names of others right now. Both of the Bournemouth centre-backs chose to go elsewhere. I am sure there were others, I just can't think of their names.}

28 Dec 2025 15:28:58
To be fair it is a rumours page, so passing on info isn’t necessarily believing it, I mean the in the knows here haven’t had great success beyond Carra.
It’s all fun and games.

28 Dec 2025 16:14:51
Happy New Year @Thefields. Keep it coming.

28 Dec 2025 16:32:29
Were we in for Zabarnyi, ed? Didn't know we pitched a proposal to him.

{Ed001's Note - we were interested yes.}

28 Dec 2025 16:59:20
I don't believe everything I read but everything I've read regarding Semenyo and his January transfer suggests that he is very willing to go to City.
And maybe Bournemouth are hanging on to him for as long as possible.

The release clause needs to be triggered by the 10th January. The window isn't even open so a deal wouldn't be done. He's a Bournemouth player and they probably want him for as many games as possible.

28 Dec 2025 17:39:58
Bournemouth have Chelsea (away), Arsenal (home), spurs (home) and Newcastle (away) whilst that clause is still valid.

Given they have not won in nine games I can’t see him going anywhere during that run of fixtures.
