Maybe I am in the minority here but we need to do everything to get Trent back. We anyways need a RB.
22 May 2026 08:36:13
Never gonna happen, and he has severely regressed this season. Have you watched him play for Real? Teams target him every game. He was magnificent for us, but he's been on the decline since Klopp left.
22 May 2026 08:37:34
We need.
22 May 2026 08:39:05
We need a Rb who can defend. I swear Trent used to cost us almost as many goals as he would assist.
22 May 2026 08:51:07
Unfortunately, I think he's burnt his bridges.
Not just by going to Madrid. We could handle it if he wanted a move, but the way he went about it - running his contract down, giving us false hope he was signing a new contract.
For a local lad, to turn his back on the team that gave him the cha
We lost arguably one of the best right backs for pennies. Fo.
22 May 2026 08:56:00
We shouldn't be negative towards Trent; he played very well within the right-back position, fitting well into Jurgen's system. While he might have been even better in the midfield role, where his strengths could have been better utilised, he willingly played at right-back, unlike Gerrard on the right under Benitez for the team.
Just as we seek new jobs for more money or new challenges, footballers deserve the same opportunity. With footballers, careers are short and always one injury away from ending. They should be able to pursue their dreams.
22 May 2026 08:57:49
We can kiss and make up, surely. Just leave his brothers over there.
22 May 2026 09:05:36
Plus he can speak Spanish really well.
22 May 2026 09:06:37
Didn't willingly play anywhere. Wasn't good enough to play in midfield. Superb RB though.
22 May 2026 09:14:26
I think this last season will be the death of Trent's career. He's probably full of regret just like Owen was. But like Owen, who wanted to come back, Trent just won't be welcomed back. We've moved on.
I'm also getting Dele Alli vibes from the whole situation. Once your career stalls to such a drastic extent, it's really hard to regain that confidence and momentum. He's not been accepted by the Madrid fans. The Madrid media have absolutely slaughtered him. Tuchel is going to leave him out of the World Cup squad, etc.
He's ruined his career chasing clout and a 'bromance' with Jude. A massive shame, because he was world class regardless of what his detractors used to say. One of the only players in my lifetime where people were so obsessed with what he wasn't good at, that they totally ignored that he probably has the most complete passing range of anyone in world football for the last 20 years.
From right back, Trent's basically set a record for the most Prem assists by a defender in just 8 years that nobody is going to break even if they play regularly for 10-12 years. Robertson has 60 Prem assists in 11 years as a regular first team player (involved in at least 50% of games) putting him 2nd on the all time list, and he was absolutely incredible. So for Trent to have 64 Prem assists in just 8 seasons as a regular first team player (involved in at least 50% of games) is absolutely ridiculous.
Would I take him back though? No, not unless Klopp's also coming back. Trent got too big for his boots, and it now looks like Klopp kept his ego in check for all those years.
22 May 2026 09:17:18
I wouldn't have an issue with him returning, I just don't want us to pay the £70m+ or whatever to bring him back as he left for pretty much nothing.
There are better RBs out there, and we just need a controller/metronome (Alonso/Gerrard) style player in the middle.
22 May 2026 08:47:44
Yes you are. El Rato is not wanted here
22 May 2026 09:25:48
I loved Trent, and his was the most painful departure since Coutinho, who was my first real hero. For all his flaws, he was simply world class. One of the best ever teams of the PL was built to get the most out of his ability, so that should tell you how good he was despite his defensive "shortcomings". Also, I think he was an average defender when he tried. Still remember how he shut down Sane in the 17/18 CL QF, at a time when Sane was genuinely a terrifying winger.
But, as MKS says, in the last few years the effort in defending simply went down as his ego went up. I would not take him anymore, as it would also set a bad precedent for future players. All due respect, we are not Bilbao/Sociedad where players can leave for greener pastures and return if their moves don't work out. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and should act like one.
22 May 2026 09:26:35
I wouldn't say we have moved on. I would say we have reversed backwards at speed. You can't say what our current options are at right back, or the Dutch players we are being linked with are an improvement on Trent.
Just more poor recruitment, based on data rather than 2 eyes. Frimpong seems like a nice lad but not what we need.
Bradley, unfortunately for me, needs to be sold or kept as back up. He's not good enough or fit enough. Maybe Wirtz will play there next season if Slot stays. All Wirtz needs to know about Slot's system is to be out of position, pass it sideways very slowly, and let the other team run past you without challenging them. Anyone can do it.
22 May 2026 09:27:57
I can see Trent coming back to play in the Prem if Mourinho doesn't get the best out of him, which he might.
22 May 2026 09:29:08
I do not want him back. He's made his bed - he can lay in it.
However, there have been some whispers in agent circles within the last six months that if the opportunity arose, Trent would jog back to Anfield.
Means nothing because we will not be going in for him now or ever. I suppose it's not much of a surprise considering how poor the Madrid situation is.
22 May 2026 09:47:31
There is no way I would do anything to get him back.
I would sound him out for a fair, but he will have to admit his desire to come back.
While I personally would be ok with him coming back and think he improves us, if he does not have a burning desire to return to us, I'm not interested.
22 May 2026 10:12:15
He made his choice to screw us, let him rot.
22 May 2026 10:16:23
Trent is such a beautiful striker of the ball, but has deficiencies defending. To be honest I would rather have a Robbo type player playing in each of the FB positions than two Trent's playing left and right.
If he had done a Rushie, and Madrid came in with a huge offer the club accepted, then he could come back. Even if he had been honest, a couple of years in advance, about wanting to leave at the end of his contract, people might have been able to accept it.
He chased the money instead of legendary status at his boyhood club.
Everyone will wish Robbo all the best for the future and welcome him back. A bit like Gerrard, thank you for your service and enjoy whatever you decide to do next. As for Trent, good luck trying to win the Ballon d'Or.
22 May 2026 10:38:38
He wouldn't want to come back. It's like coming home with his tail between his legs. He'd think he's been a failure.
Plus, if there were any chance we wanted him back, can you see us paying 50m+ for a player we let go for 10m a year ago?
He'll probably have one more season at Madrid and then go to City or Utd.
22 May 2026 11:03:05
I don't see Klopp going for Trent either. He rarely gets players back with whom he has worked before.
22 May 2026 11:19:30
Taa can fk off! Let him get German lessons we don't want him!!
22 May 2026 12:13:29
Rubbish, BKind. He's a fantastic football player. People make personal decisions all the time. He's streets ahead of anyone else who is currently playing rhs for our club. Best passer of the football I've seen. One of, anyway. He'd be an exceptional asset for Iraola or Hoeness and the team. I'd have him in the morning. And convince Salah to stay also for his remaining year.
22 May 2026 12:34:36
Thank Fowler, you're not running the show then, ShanklysGhost.
22 May 2026 13:34:24
With the ball at his feet, TAA can be world class. As a defender, he can be caught out ball watching and also not being able to anticipate what's going to happen next and so gets caught out of position. An asset in an attacking team that has a high win to loss ratio.
22 May 2026 13:45:49
That interview when he was introduced to the Spanish media at Real did it fir me when he started spouting off in fluent Spanish, supposedly he hadn't made his mind up whether he was staying or going all season, you don't learn Spanish that quick, he'd been planning to sneak out for free for the last 12 months of his contract but pretending he was not sure what he was going to do.
Kept us all with hope he'd stay when infact he was having Spanish lessons every week.
Bellingham played his part and for me like others have said, he's like Owen, a rat and hope he carries on his downward path with Madrid.
Maybe he'll sign for united too when he gets his marching orders.
Not bitter honestly, he's scum
End of!!
22 May 2026 14:41:12
Let's not rewrite history. He was absolutely fantastic for Liverpool.
22 May 2026 14:59:18
He never bothered putting in the hard work to improve his defending.
It was his obvious weakness from the beginning of his career, almost a decade later and there is no improvement. It's just too easy to beat him.
When he gets beaten, his attempts at defending look embarrassing, amateurish. He would never succeed in midfield, Klopp knew that, that's the reason he played at right back.
22 May 2026 15:52:40
Attitude gone to the dogs long before his move. Unbelievable in his hay day, but last season he spent with us there was definitely a drop off, more injuries and still the comment about rather wanting to win the Ballon d'Or over everything else showed his mindset...
Thanks for the memories, Trent, but you made your bed and we need to move on imo!
22 May 2026 16:00:23
You tell me a better RB with his attributes than Gini. There's a reason Jurgen Klopp played him consistently for years. He was the best around. The ones we currently have wouldn't be fit to iron his shirt.
And Salah has another good year left in his locker under the right circumstances for us without doubt. Anyway, it's all about opinion on here and that's mine and you are obviously entitled to yours. Debate is good!!
22 May 2026 19:24:01
People say he was world class RB. No, he wasn't. He was a world class passer and striker of a football that just happened to play at right back, which he did because he wasn't good enough with his positioning or tracking back to make the midfield position, which is where he always played at youth level, his own.
Now, don't get me wrong, he can be amazing going forward. The records speak for themselves. But don't tell me he's a world class RB because for that you need to be a good defender as well, and Trent simply isn't. The amount of times he loses his man at his back post and gets dribbled around like he wasn't there was mind blowing. A player like that is great to have as a luxury in the number 10 role, maybe.
But IMO, if he didn't have grafting team players like Hendo, Wini, Milner and Szob protecting the space in front of his side and covering for him most of his LFC career, he would have been out the side for being too much of a liability when he's isolated.
Let's be honest, he always got away with far more than he ever would elsewhere too because he's one of our own.
No disrespect to the lad, he's clearly an immensely talented athlete, but a world class full back? No chance. Find me a right footed Andy Robertson and we wouldn't even know who Trent was. Best of luck to the lad in Spain or wherever he ends up once he gets chased out of there, which was always bound to happen. Shame, because if he could have worked on his deficiencies in a deeper midfield role we could have had a Scouse Xabi Alonso level player on our hands. Not to be though.
22 May 2026 21:03:24
Trent is a great player but he has as many minutes played at 27 as most players do at like 34. He's peaked.
22 May 2026 23:17:51
Everything has an expiry date.
