The new narrative now is we've "too many attacking players".
What exactly are these "Attacking" players creating? How many goals are they scoring?
A good few players better pull their socks up and quite quickly. Some better run, tackle and offer a lot more. We've been let down by journeymen in charge of transfers but there's a few that I stated before, too soft and I don't like their character for this football club.


We've the highest wage bill in the country. Certain players are absolutely going to be exposed now more than ever on their huge earnings. No more hiding behind a coach.

I cruelly think today highlighted how badly we need more options up top. Isak needs a challenger and we need another rw.

I thought on the whole the performance was ok. Second half, I thought we were in control. We got unlucky with the pen, and I think Jacquet was tiring and about to be subbed, which allowed Williams to get the Rik on him for the pen. The balance looked better with Macca sitting.

Munoz is clearly a talent and for me should be a rw starter.



Motw evidence that Rio is not yet ready.

Frimpong is not great, and I never thought I would say this, but we would be better off with Szob at rb.

Isak was the biggest concern, though. Not sure how we get the best out of him.

Wirtz, I thought, was our best player today, pressed well, making tackles and involved in our goals. He is so much better when he has players looking to get in behind to play forwards too.

Trey looked composed too when he came on.

Ed025 I thought as performance that was better than any league match I watched us from last season (maybe with exception of Arsenal game). There are things I like and patterns of play that you can see progress.

I still think this team is too nice, but I thought it was notable that everyone seemed to be putting more tackles in and playing more agreessive. We really did control the second half, but we can disagree

{Ed025's Note - was it really MOT?, i thought the second half was slightly better than the first (which was pathetic) mate, its ok to look for positives but there was not much there for me im afraid, Forest could have been 4 up at half time and for me are just a bunch of grafters who were taken to school by Leeds twice last week, any decent Liverpool side should be wiping the floor with them...but of course thats just my opinion

We lack real leaders. Too much softness.
Dom is highly sus as a character. Some of the antics towards fans. He should be nowhere near the Captaincy. He's busy talking pictures with Gerrard "comparing goals".
The lad isn't a patch on Gerrard. He needs humbled quickly. Sob should be tried on the right wing.

If he doesn't want to take on instructions and be tactically disciplined what's he offering to the team without hindering it? He's not good enough for a team to be built around him. If Wirtz is to succeed, Sob needs to take a back seat and work on his game.

Just looking forward to the team getting up to steam with AI's style of play. A good Champions League run, and maybe a domestic final.
Then a new era of post Edwards and Hughes from January.

That first half was Slot ball 2.0. Big changes needed to the squad, mystified why more incoming players haven't arrived this transfer window.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I'd imagine we'll be out the cups fairly soon as I'd imagine we'd be playing the kids because the squad is so thin.

I'm no genius but can't understand how someone can be in the wrong place every single time the ball goes into the box.

That attempt at a dummy or change of direction Isak did in the box was woeful.



Nothing to do with service, which you're never getting off our fullbacks anyway but Isak is looking like the worst signing ever in world football.

Rubbish. He scored and is getting in the right areas. He has hardly played 2 games in a row since being at Liverpool and the service in the first 45 was non-existent. We need someone in midfield to play balled in front of him to run on to.
He will come good.

Isak is becoming a worry. The service is crap, but so is his first touch. The first half touch that rolled to Munoz, the second half cross from Szob, the chip in behind from Wirtz. You expect more from your 100+ M main man up top. I'm all for giving him a run of games, but he really needs to start performing.

A Radiol Onion - A ball played in front of Isak, on our current displays, will be bread and butter for the opposition's defence with a simple low block. Even on a counter forward pass with more space, I doubt he'd do much better.

atm... We look so easy to defend against! There's obvious concerns across many positions, and the lack of balance / fluidity is clear to see! Only two games in, tho, so early days, etc, and like you say, let's hope he and the team come good. ✌

Could Jacquet play in the number 6 role? He looks very tidy on the ball and could do a similar job to what Stones did at City. Not saying it’s the long term solution but could be worth a look.

No. You don't want a CB playing DM. It's not about standing in front of the back four. That's called 3 at the back.

I'd give Grav and Dom more time to figure it out. It was one game.

Or buy a good DM.

The problem is it is looking very likely right now that we won't be buying a good DM. It might be a short term option worth a try as Jacquet was a midfielder in the past.

I don’t want to read any more Wharton connections or wishes; what we knew before is exactly what he showed last night.

He defends like Trent and I mean he jogs in slow motion as he watches his team mates do the running.


All he does is he floats balls forward and is a good passer ….

Only.

When I watch the Cherki goal he didn’t even try.

So please we have enough passes and pretty boys in the team - we have to hope next season we have a sporting director who recognises we need a different type of player.

What the hell is going on with our transfers? We spend weeks and months fannying about with PSG over Barcola and Mbaye, and now Villa come in and get a deal agreed in minutes!

We’ve become a shambles with transfers and all other clubs seem to know it!
