The only thing I am clinging to from this season, is that slot will be gone at the end of it.
However everywhere I look bar here, is reporting he will be staying on next season no matter what.
Ed001 please say it ain't so and that FSG cannot be that stupid to keep the man on, when in reality he couldn't run a bath well let alone this Liverpool team.
{Ed001's Note - they see it similar to Klopp's time, that this could be just a blip and Slot can turn it around.}
16 Apr 2026 08:29:03
Let's imagine that they are right (and there is a remote possibility that they are, though if they had faith in their man, I can't fathom why they didn't back him in January when he clearly wanted reinforcements in central defense at the very least), surely the fact that fans in the grounds (that is, not online fans and people continually plugged into the football social mediasphere) have turned on the manager will force their hand? Unless Slot puts together an incredible run the last few games and we start looking like an absolute top team that will return to the top next season, which looks rather unlikely, even if it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
16 Apr 2026 08:40:07
His contract ends in 13 months' time.
It doesn't feel like they're backing him to me.
It feels like they're being cautious about the press until they've secured the next man (or woman) in.
Either way, I can't see him getting a contract extension.
This blip in performance has been going on at least 14 months. Yes, we won the league last May, but that was mostly due to early season results. We limped over the line.
16 Apr 2026 08:53:41
Replacing Slot means replacing Edwards and Hughes too. They won't go back on a manager that won the league. If we qualify for CL, as abysmal as this season has been, it can be written off in monetary sense.
Slot has been out of ideas, but I think he will get another chance as long as Edward and Hughes are here.
I don't mind it, to be honest, as success is not a guarantee with new manager and with names being thrown around I don't see immediate success with them.
If it were someone like Enrique or Pep or even Simeone (yea can't believe is used Enrique Pep and Simeone in one sentence lol) I'd be on the Slot out wagon all day.
But I have no real sense of confidence in an Alonso Iraolo or Hoeness or whoever in changing us overnight.
Slot did well in first season (whatever reasons you may want to call it) and then went hopeless in second. I think we need a third season to give a final verdict.
To be honest, top4 finish and quarter final in CL is not a hopeless season. Could have prioritised a cup, but we drew City, so thats just hardluck.
{Ed025's Note - seriously?..
16 Apr 2026 09:01:40
No way another year of this dross, he has to go before he turns us into mid table mediocrity.
16 Apr 2026 09:15:30
Cafu, you just made all that up as you typed along.
"Success isn't guaranteed even with a new manager" - A) Actually, it is. Top managers win things with good players - period. B) The risk is worth taking if it means getting rid of Slot.
"...
is not a hopeless season" - Err, yes it is. In fact, it's worse than hopeless. To go from winning the league to scrapping for 5th with no trophies demonstrates one of the worst individual seasons of coaching I've ever seen.
Slot needs to go, simple as that.
16 Apr 2026 09:15:58
Ron, what happened? You have been backing Slot all season. Saying stuff like we are still in the cups, and still in the top five race. You believed he could turn it around. And now you've suddenly switched sides and no longer trust him?
16 Apr 2026 09:18:11
I honestly think I'd stop watching football if he stays. It's become so boring. I find myself second screening through our games. What games have you enjoyed watching this season? Genuinely enjoyed? Real Madrid is the only one that sticks in my memory. I didn't honestly enjoy last season. Obviously it was great we won but what were the stand out moments? The memories that make your hairs stand on end? I really can't remember any. Think of all of the moments we had under Klopp. Him losing his glasses against Norwich, Oxlade Chamberlain's rocket against City, Lovren's winner against Dortmund, Origi's winner against Everton.
They just go on and on. They stick in your memory because the football was thrilling. It was entertaining. Our football now is the opposite. It's like paying to watch the same s*** film over and over again. I will always Liverpool but what is happening is creating apathy. I've stopped caring. And I don't mean this to come across as moaning that we're not challenging. I'd much rather watch us lose every game 4-3 like Real did last night than the insipid football that is currently being served up.
16 Apr 2026 09:48:25
I agree with that flidby, if Slot stays, I will take a break from football until he's gone.
16 Apr 2026 10:03:37
I keep thinking of Theoden at Helm's Deep: "How did it come to this?"
I've been coming to this page for over a decade now and I don't think I've ever seen fans saying they'll take a break if the manager stays (not a criticism, lads, I get it, we are so boring to watch), but again, how did it come to this? It feels like Slot has drained out all the life Klopp breathed back into this club.

Thanks ed001 - I think what worries me if he is staying, that his style of football is so turgid and he doesn't seem to be able adapt.
The couple of games we have looked good, when we played the old style against villa and Madrid earlier in the season, you would have thought he would say to himself "ok, that works".
But he seems fixated and unwilling to adapt and this fawning over PSG is nauseating. Just excuses all the time. Heavy metal football to primary school recorder class (where everything is out of tune) in the space of 14 months.
{Ed001's Note - that made me laugh that analogy. Such a good one.}
16 Apr 2026 09:36:17
Hi Ed1,
I remember a few months ago you said the expectation was Slot would go in the summer.
Is that still expected or have things changed?
Thanks
{Ed001's Note - the expectation is he will go home, yes. But his choice. He has not settled in the UK, he has not even tried to.}
16 Apr 2026 10:15:48
"I think we need a third season to give a final verdict."
Would you have given Hodgson another season, just to make sure?
Or would you have given Rodgers another season, just to make sure?
I'm sorry, but the evidence is already available. Slot has shown over a sustained period of time that he is not up to the job.
He's turned Anfield from a fortress to a playground for our opponents. He has no idea how to organise a midfield or defence, and it's been that way for all of this season.
A third season with Slot ends in a relegation battle. He has no idea how to fix this, and it will get worse, not better.
16 Apr 2026 10:09:27
Hi ed001,
Just on your comment regarding the owners seeing the slot situation as a blip, do you really think Slot will stay?
Cheers
Drogie
{Ed001's Note - I believe he is unhappy in England and wants to go home.}
16 Apr 2026 10:22:17
Jesus give us mercy.
Slot putting us out of our misery more than the other 2 morons.
Unbelievable.
Hopefully Arne will do the right thing and leave.
Would be worried about the future if this is the standard Hughes and Edwards seem to be acceptable of.
You were right about them Ed mate!
16 Apr 2026 10:27:24
Purely guessing I'd reckon ed1 is right, don't think he wants to be here.
I also have that feeling something must've happened slot as in his 1st season he looked the new Johan cruyff and 2nd season he looks poor version of Mike Bassett. Something must've happened for him to take his eye off ball so much that he looks so poor and clueless now. My guess is that he has family problems due to him being away.
I don't buy it that he was lucky last season, granted he got bit of luck with city declining but we still had to go and do it and get it over line which isn't as simple as people like to make out. Arsenal perfect example this season, the league actually worse this season than ever and they still struggling to get over line even with there massive squad
16 Apr 2026 10:45:28
So do they try to talk him around Ed? or be kinda happy that they're been given a way out?
{Ed001's Note - I think they would prefer him to stay.}
16 Apr 2026 10:58:06
C0ffan
I've consistently said it should all be reviewed at the end of the season or if we were mathematically unable to qualify for the CL.
I've never "backed him" per se. I've just been 'against mid-season sacking' for the sake of it.
16 Apr 2026 11:08:36
The club is run by business people who make decisions when they think the time is right, they do not have it spread all over the media, they keep their cards close to their chests.
Regarding Slot, they will have assessed his performances over the season and look into all other aspects, such as injuries, players' loss of form, and could he make major improvements to the team and to his performances as head coach.
They will then make their decision whether Slot goes or stays, and who is available to replace him, and they will have spoken to probably several potential replacements, and we will all find out their decision at the end of the season. So chill your beans people!!!

16 Apr 2026 11:40:20
We let unhappy players go. Why not let unhappy manager leave - if he is not settled, that is going to filter into the team.
16 Apr 2026 11:58:21
Lowe,
There aren't many "top managers" left and very few that Liverpool could get a hold of. We have been linked with the likes of Iraola and Alonso but they are equally as much of a risk as Slot was.
I would love Enrique but that's not going to happen.
We could literally be jumping from the frying pan and into the fire, it's a risk but definitely one the club needs to do in order to try and get us back on track.
16 Apr 2026 12:03:35
How can that be their position... that's so concerning. FSG have had the wool pulled over their eyes, and it should anger every fan. We are abject and so far from competing.
The fact that the only thing saving us from Slot is likely to be Slot himself... wow.
16 Apr 2026 12:04:40
There are no guarantees in sport.
{Ed025's Note - you getting beat by PSG was one Faith.. :)
16 Apr 2026 12:31:03
No guarantees in life, well except death and taxes. ?
16 Apr 2026 13:01:46
Fingers crossed he wants to go Ed. Still amazes me that the higher ups at the club don't want him gone. It has been utterly abysmal this season.
16 Apr 2026 13:09:21
The fact that the team is still not physically fit is a sackable offence in itself. I can't see a single reason Slot should stay. The "blip" has been over a year, worst run of form in 70 years, fan base has turned, booing and leaving games early, at no point this season did we look like the formidable force we were lining up to be last summer, all this Slot talking about "transition period" is utter nonsense, you don't spend 450 million to go into a transitionary year where not expecting to compete for the top prize, it's nothing but damage control to try quiet the noise, and he knows it.
Now we're actually about to come into a transition period. We have a huge amount of work to do this summer with very little time to do it, and I'm to believe the club thinks the man who took a Premier League winning side that was massively improved upon with £450m worth players, and went completely ass backwards with them in every possible way, is the best men for the job?! April fools was at least 2 weeks ago now.
If it's true, I can only believe it's happened because Xabi has turned us down.
16 Apr 2026 14:18:32
The club has all the reasons to sack him, but has not. It tells you they support the manager. I don't think FSG is dumb. They know what they are doing, or at least whatever Slot is explaining to them makes sense to them.
I don't think Slot is a stubborn, selfish, or unreliable person. I truly believe he will change his ways, and we will be back to winning ways next season.
The football has been trepid, cuz he thought players needed a break and believed they will catch up in the later half of the season. He was wrong about that, they didn't, and injuries kept piling up and killing us.
I will give Slot the benefit of the doubt for this season.
I will hold out my head and face the rain if he stays and fails again, but as long as he is here I will support him.
Without Salah, Robbo, and a few others, he will have more authority on the team and it will be his team.
I have patience aplenty, and I don't want to jump on the sack him bandwagon cuz that hardly ever works in EPL. We could do a Tottenham.
Also, I don't want to discuss the absolute nonsense of a window we had. If someone needs to be fired, fire the guy that spent a good part of half a billion on injury prone players for the sake of it. Could have just signed Wirtz and called it a day, but went crazy.
16 Apr 2026 14:29:50
Another one blocked. This is like a turkey shoot.
16 Apr 2026 17:25:59
Fildby, I am seriously considering the same thing should this manager be kept next season. Not sure I can deal with a season such as this next term.
