Just to play the devil’s advocate, has Slot’s securing of Champions’ League place strengthened his position as LFC manager? Would some fans have preferred that we miss out on the Champions’ League just to get rid of Slot?

19 May 2026 22:25:58
"Would some fans have preferred that we miss out on the Champions' League just to get rid of Slot?"

I don't understand why this has to be an either / or question. I'm happy that we've (nearly) secured the CL, but it doesn't make Slot's performance this season anywhere near good enough.

19 May 2026 22:29:23
We've not secured anything. We lose 3-0 and Bournemouth win by 3 or more, they get CL and they deserve it.

19 May 2026 22:29:47
Absolutely not, we've barely scraped it. Thank Fowler, we were very lucky with a few other teams' results, like tonight. The fact that it's still not 100% secured going into the final match day is reason enough to send him packing.

19 May 2026 22:33:09
Agreed, Something Red. Also, with Bournemouth's win, it means we haven't yet secured CL.

19 May 2026 22:46:10
MoT, it was a draw, so barring a freak result, we have CL.

19 May 2026 22:50:56
You know what makes me feel sick. We've known for years Pep will leave City at some point, and we were supposed to be poised ready to pounce and go on a bit of a dominant run. And somehow not only have Arsenal been the team that's capitalised, we've ended up behind United and Villa.

Keeping hold of this manager beyond October/November has set us back years and years for nothing. Just stupid pride and ignorance from 2 idiots.

19 May 2026 22:59:29
We haven't secured CL yet.

I don't think securing CL should be a deal maker or breaker.

19 May 2026 23:01:00
We lost more games than Sunderland this season. Just let that sink in ...

19 May 2026 23:05:24
He has to go regardless of where we finish this season. I can accept us finishing 5th. We finished 8th and 5th under Klopp. What I can't accept is some of the performances we have seen this season.

19 May 2026 23:08:44
In most other seasons, our points tally gets you 8th to 10th, we've been bang lucky to get away with our performances.

Stats don't tell the whole story and the same should be said for us qualifying for the CL.

Our performances have been dire, we look unfit and uninterested, and the balance of the squad is woeful for a 400m outlay.

Let him go back to the Netherlands with our thanks for the title, but he is not our future.

19 May 2026 23:05:38
The fact we haven't confirmed it yet shows that the fraud should be sent packing.

There are two separate things, in my opinion, although the one one does impact the other and vice versa.

1. Business perspective : I don't think the owners are particularly interested in football, per se. Obviously they are happy when we win things but they are businessmen and they are overwhelmingly focussed on growing the brand globally and increasing the value of their asset. From a business perspective this makes absolute sense and in this respect they are doing an excellent job - compare the value of the asset they bought against the estimated value of the asset now. From a business perspective, qualification for next season's CL is essential to, at least retain the current worth of the asset

2. Football perspective : this is the one I, and I suspect everybody else, care about. In my honest opinion, this season has been the worst season in a footballing sense in a long, long time. The team lacks direction, leadership and spirit both on and off the field. The players have looked unfit all season and have, for most of the games we have played, been out played, out run, out fought and out muscle. In most seasons since the arrival of Klopp, it might have happened 3 or 4 times in a 60odd game season. This season it has probably happened around four fifths of the games we have played.

Most of the players haven't played for each other or for the club or fans. They have basically turned up and gone through the motions and for a club of its stature and the realistic expectations of fans based on the last 6 or 7 seasons the level of performance is just unacceptable.

Whilst the players - highly paid players to a man - are accountable the root of the problem is the coach and his failure to adapt and the apparent inability of the Director of Football and whatever Edwards' job title is to assess the situation and to take the appropriate steps to address the team and, especially, the coach's inability to rectify the issues. From my point of view, I think the coach is out of his depth. It's not really his fault, he just doesn't have the skills to learn and adapt. I also don't believe that Edwards and Hughes are the men for the job. I'm not sure what they aren't doing - if I did I would apply for their jobs - but they've had a season and a half to fix the signs and arrival of the problems that we now have. Like the coach their time should be up. We've gone from a team that looked head and shoulders above everyone in the first half of the 24/25 season to probably ((but by no means certain with one game to go) qualifying, by the skin of our teeth for next season's CL.

So, for me, having been given a world class squad on a plate and subsequently having spent half a billion in one transfer window to 'improve the squad' as the first step in a transition (whatever that means) we have failed miserably and consistently.

To restore attacking, exciting football and, in doing so, to win PLs and CLs, will restore the soul of the club and will - from a business perspective - improve the value of the asset, for those, like the owners, whose ficus is on the business side.

To reach the goals I would like to see, Slot, Hughes and Edwards need to be replaced as soon as possible.

Sorry for the rant but the last 18 months has seen us go from bad to worse and, as things currently stand with the set-up we have in place, I don't see how we can rectify the situation and improve in, at least, a football sense.

We all support Liverpool FC. We all want the club to be the best in the world. I think it's fair to say that an overwhelming number of Liverpool fans around the world want to see the current set-up changed. Time to act before we embark on another 30 year PL drought.

20 May 2026 03:51:36
Weird but true. After 37 games, we are the 4th highest scorers in the league and have the 4th best goal difference. I have to say I rechecked the numbers 3 times as I thought I was seeing things at first.

Congratulations to Arsenal on winning the league - anybody at the top at the end of the season deserves it.

I have to say, though, that like us last season, the standard of football in the league is poor. It wasn't our fault last season and it isn't Arsenal's this year, we and they won the league fair and square, but the standard is little better than average.

20 May 2026 06:44:09
Been poor, but c'mon, lads. Champions League football was clinched weeks ago. At least we can start moving ahead with

our summer signings now it's confirmed.

{Ed077's Note - UCL spot was only clinched a few hours ago, not weeks ?

20 May 2026 07:08:08
A freak result and we don't, can't see how it was clinched weeks ago.

20 May 2026 08:20:21
We haven't secured UCL yet. I don't know how you think we secured it weeks ago. Bournemouth play Forest, who have nothing to play for, and we play a very good team fighting for European spots. Anything could happen still. But this guy Florian Musiala just seems like a Slot worshipper rather than a Liverpool fan.

{Ed077's Note - I was wrong to say you have "clinched" the final UCL spot because it's still not unrealistic for Bournemouth to overtake Liverpool on the final day. +6 GD can be made up but it isn't easy.
Liverpool For 5th... Highly Likely? Yes. Definitely in? Not quite yet

20 May 2026 08:32:11
If you say so Ed.Nine points ahead with 5 games to go.Thats clinched in my opinion. And that's how its turned out.

{Ed077's Note - There is a realistic way for Liverpool to end up 6th still... Highly Highly unlikely, but not impossible.

20 May 2026 09:09:02
Ah that realistic but highly highly unlikely way won't happen though Ed.I can relax totally on Sunday(as i have been all season about top 4)and enjoy two legends send off.Which is all we should be talking about now really.

{Ed077's Note - Hopefully for your sake, it won't be a sendoff with a defeat ?

20 May 2026 09:36:42
West Derby, we're 5th for most goals conceded.

20 May 2026 11:21:34
Yes, I know - I wasn't surprised by that - I actually thought it might be worse. It's the goals we have scored and the goal difference that I found (and still think) was the big surprise.
