Very good on the ball I think that’s what Slot wants from his CBs. Virgil is fantastic and Guehi is really good on the ball too so made sense. Konate isn’t. His strengths were always covering big spaces behind Trent and winning headers if teams went direct. Left footer too always helps.

OneKiss - Virgil isn't anywhere near as good on the ball as he used to be. Virgil is not the defender he used to be. Very much on a downward trajectory now.

That is absolute nonsense. He is the best passing defender in the world, his passing range is a huge part of the way we play. He can carry or hit a huge diagonal across the field, or evade a pressing forwards with ease. As a defender he is still comfortably the best in the prem, who's better in terms of overall skill set? Saliba? I don't think he's at the same level.
Folks always put bastoni up there with Virgil and bastoni is probably on the same level on the ball and contributing to the team in possession but Virgil is twice the defender bastoni is.

Interestingly was looking at bundesliga stats and noticed that the aerial duels contested are much lower compared to PL.

You might want to go back and watch Virgil's passing performance in the Arsenal game and then get back to us, Brisbane. Some of the passes he made in that game were incredible for a midfielder, never mind a CB.
Schlotterbeck is a brilliant player and his left footed progression (long and short) is probably the best out there. I would be seriously worried about his injury record though. Thanks to Arteta and Howe, the physicality of the Premier League seems to have gone up another notch.

FlyPelicanFly, exactly. For me, he is the only CB I have seen dictate a game from CB. Majestic performance. You can add Newcastle to that as well.
Or @Brisbane can go watch VVD's passing ability from last season where Slot improved this aspect of his game massively. Matip for me, was the best of our lot on the ball and passing wise. VVD improved a lot last season esp. with his line-breaking passes and has kept it going this season.
It seems @FlyPelicanFly has had a right 'mare here, IMO. As for the BVB lad, haven't seen that much of him. Maybe I'll keep an I on him whenever BVB are playing moving forw.

This is a banter site n it sometimes funny hearing ppls different views on players etc . but on this topic 99.9% agree the VVD is still one of the best defenders about n his passing range is still fantastic. as for 0.1% well a visit to Specsavers is well overdue.
