Right, going a bit left with this one ?.
Hughes is a fraud and only got the job because he's mates with Edwards, there was far superior people available at the time. He needs to go in the summer. There I said it.
I base this on my mate who worked with him early on at Bournemouth, he's the one that calls him the Sliver Tounged Charlatan. I've met him twice and both times I walked away thinking he was a snake oil salesman.
Oh and apparently he has been acting like an idiot when it comes to transfer targets. I wouldn't be surprised if no one comes in this window from what I've heard.
03 Jan 2026 16:50:05
So the guy who brought in lots of talent for Bournemouth, then brings in players we all said was the best window in ages is a fraud? Players that chose us because of the way we respected their family and clubs. Only Guehi being missed out on due to Palace not finding a replacement.
He's just about wrapped up a deal for that young CB kid from Austria who all the big sides were watching. Possibly bringing in another young CB in Ordonoz who already is starting for Ecuador. Sold lots of players balancing the books at the same time.
03 Jan 2026 16:58:04
Thanks TheFields
Out of curiosity, will he jump or be pushed?
If pushed, who will push him since he's mates with Edward's?
03 Jan 2026 17:00:50
When you're at a small club, the amount of players willing to come is a smaller pool than at a larger club. So its easier to find bargins and missed talent.
The club as whole treated them like that, not just one person and by all accounts the larger deals (Isak, Wirtz and Ekitike) were completed by Edwards not Hughes. He just handled the contract negotiations. It was one of the best, no one is disputing that.
We as a club have always been good at selling players under FSG.
Potentially signing 2x young CB's is not what we need.
03 Jan 2026 17:09:01
Thanks for the info, Fields. Couldn't agree more with KP's reply to your post, though.
We've got every reason to believe Hughes has been a success so far, and none to suggest he's a "fraud". Is there any reason in particular he's being viewed as such?
03 Jan 2026 17:09:48
Fields, I read 2-3 months ago Hughes might be on his way to Saudi; anything on that?
03 Jan 2026 17:25:34
It's easier to find bargains in a smaller pool than a bigger one? ? What nonsense, this is the poster people think has an inside line at the club?
03 Jan 2026 18:21:39
That's not what he said though was it thunderbird
Perhaps re read it before smashing out a reply .
The amount of tripe getting thrown at people on here that share any kind of info is insane .
Fields shares very reliable info along with carra ned and others .
Remember anything can change as they always say and nothing is ever official unless the club itself announces it .
Thanks for the info Fields.
03 Jan 2026 18:36:35
Thunderbird2 do you you really not understand what TheFields is saying? Or are you just being a bit of a Dick Tracy?
03 Jan 2026 18:37:43
TB, its an opinion and not nonsense at all. I ask you this. If you had a small pond with 1 or 2 big fish in but 100's of small fish. Would you be able to find the big fish? I know I could. Its the same principle. Smaller clubs have less players interested in going there, that's a fact. So it makes the talent pool available small in comparison to that of a club of LFC's size. Oh and just for the record, I've never said or indicated I have a line inside the clubs management. I'm loosely related via the wife to one current player and know someone from the media team, that is it. I get info from agents and player reps. So get your facts right.
As93 see my reply to KP's comment.
Dunno about Saudi or any other interest tbh RF.
03 Jan 2026 19:44:02
SLOT OUT.
03 Jan 2026 19:08:30
Thanks fields I appreciate any info you have.
03 Jan 2026 19:17:46
The fields
Thanks for the update
I have serious doubts over Hughes and I fail to see how he has gone from finding "gems" for Bournemouth level- to getting the position he has at our club.
People say the summer was our best window ever. We bought some fantastic players- but they don't seem to fit with the set up we have.
Edwards and Hughes also got Slot in.
Great last season but would it not have rung alarm bells during negotiations that he intended for his family to remain in the Netherlands?
That's got to be a significant strain on the bloke and probably means, even before he signed, he's not here for that long?
03 Jan 2026 19:18:50
Well there is a lot of players that can be attracted to clubs like Bournemouth and Brighton etc that wouldn't have much of a chance of joining Liverpool. that's why bigger clubs go a cherry pick the best in years to come.
03 Jan 2026 20:21:43
Fields if it was so easy for small clubs to find gems why are they not all doing it then.
Am not saying your wrong about Hughes but he did do a very good job at Bournemouth but if he chose Slot that's not a good decision and a worse one is keeping the fraud in the job.
03 Jan 2026 20:49:24
Thanks The Fields,
Just out of curiosity, do you know if Slot was Hughes choice or Edwards? Or could be both.
There's no way Hughes can survive if Slot goes in my opinion.
03 Jan 2026 20:55:21
Easier doesn't mean its easy Grino. It will come down to scouting networks, data analysts etc to find and watch the players. Some clubs are just not that good at that thing. Brighton for instance have a really good setup and always seem to find gems. Whereas West Ham's is terrible.
03 Jan 2026 21:12:51
Agreed Ron.
03 Jan 2026 21:27:37
JLC, I have no idea.
Ron, I don't know tbh. I know he wasn't the first choice tho. It will all have been data driven I suspect tho.
03 Jan 2026 21:37:47
Cujo's wife's brother. (thefields)
03 Jan 2026 21:43:31
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe ED001 has explained in the past that top end clubs tend to struggle to bring players in due to work permit rules. Therefore teams with lower wage structures can give assurances that the player in question can receive better salaries, Whereas the likes of Liverpool can not guarantee top end salaries to certain new recruits.
Hence the reason why we tend to recruit players who have first team experience.
Apologies if my recollection is incorrect.
{Ed001's Note - that is a part of it, yes. You need to reach a certain points total to get a permit and one of the ways to get points is to put a player amongst the highest earners at the club. Obviously, we are not going to pay a 17 year old 300k a week, simply so they can get a work permit.}
03 Jan 2026 21:51:49
This is crazy.
Ive not seen an attack like this on our club in years. from so many different angles and towards many different people.
When Klopp was boss, the attack was mainly towards FSG.
Now, its Slot, Konate, Macallister, VVD, analysts, Hughes, Edwards, Gakpo, even our own fans are attacking each other because of different opinions.
Im all for debate, constructive discussions but this scatter gun approach where almost everyone is being attacked suggests the club is in complete disarray.
We're not, I think we're a healthy club, in a healthy position with a very bright future.
03 Jan 2026 22:34:39
The Vicar; there's certainly some hysteria at play, but taking a league-winning team, spending significant sums of money and making it this insipid is quite some skill. I'd maintain that our squad is still strong, despite some shortcomings, stronger than Villa's, and yet we're not a patch on them at the moment, that surely points to the manager/ coaches?
Villa look like more than the sum of their parts, whereas we look like less than sum of ours, so it's hard not to conclude that other coaches could get more out of this group.
Sadly this poor period is likely to last until the end of the season, so you can expect the bad atmosphere between fans to continue until things change for the better / the summer.
03 Jan 2026 22:36:34
So your insider info is that you and your mate don't like one of the Liverpool staff? Maybe stick to transfer information, thefields.
03 Jan 2026 22:55:15
DE, its not insider info. Just an opinion and I have the right to share mine, as much I do transfer info. People like yourself and TB, make me not want to post at all tbh.
Vicar, I would say we are a really well run club. There is no doubt about it, just a couple of tweaks and the machine will be working fine again. For instance, I'm not in the Slot out crowd and.
03 Jan 2026 23:01:20
Agree @Darwin. Hughes is a business man looking for the best deals he can get.
From a work perspective he isn't there to be nice to everyone, he's there to buy the best players and prospects to the club.
From a personal perspective, every new person he meets must be eager to get a scoop from him on who we are going to sign - I'm pretty sure I'd ask if I met him and it must be a royal pain in the nether regions. I'd be surprised, unless he is a saint, that he can give people the impression that he doesn't have time for them.
03 Jan 2026 23:23:40
SirBob, I imagine that not having your family with him will have had an impact. It seems like they were fine with it because he's here. I agree its strange but as Ed1 has said, its harder for a club our size to get work permits for younger unearthed gems.
WDW, good job I didn't speak to him about transfers then eh ??.
03 Jan 2026 23:26:09
So many conflicting OPINIONS. The fact remains, fewer goals scored, more goals conceded, fewer points, unhappy customers a tarnished club reputation, on and off, the grass, and. a lot of bucks thrown at the floor for; less performance.
Who is responsible for that Hughes, Hughes and Slot, Hughes and Edwards, Hughes, Slot and Edwards. Players were lost who should have been retained and the recruits (Bangs per buck) has been woefully substandard.
04 Jan 2026 05:07:27
Thats fine, thefields, but last time i checked this site was about football rumours not celebrity gossip.
04 Jan 2026 06:44:53
Haha I was not expecting this bombshell so early this morning but thanks for sharing the info The Fields.
People forget this is a rumour and discussion website and interesting information like this always sparks a great debate so don't be disheartened by the odd few bitter replies from those jealous ones that you have a decent link inside the club.
Keep the posts coming even if they're not always "we have a brand new shiny toy to scream and shout at as fully grown adults who we will ultimately end up loving or hating in 6 months" ?.
04 Jan 2026 07:17:49
Bring back Jorg Schmadtke.
04 Jan 2026 07:28:12
Our appeal was off the charts last Summer. I find it hilarious when people act like Hughes and Edwards are some sort of magicians for signing players to one of the most attractive projects in the World.
Let's not forget how much we've all touted the idea that we only want players who really want to play for us, we've all said it, many times. You can't believe that, and believe that the suits are doing miracle work at the same time.
The fact is, contract renegotiations have been mishandled. We've let key players go with no attempt to find like-for-like replacements or adapt our system to cover the loss. Summer signings looked great on paper, but ironically enough for the data men, the data says the complete opposite.
The Slot/ Hughes/ Edwards dynamic has left a lot to be desired. It could work, but it would require a substantial ego check from all 3 of them. They need to stop trying to push their own ideas on the club and do what's best for Liverpool.
04 Jan 2026 09:17:58
You can't please some people. Please keep the posts coming Thefields.
04 Jan 2026 09:53:26
I was half happy when Edwards came back it was a link to the old regime bit like the boot room. I expected his experience to school Hughes and slot on the " Liverpool way" It's been a good 14 months that the team has got progressively worse.
JH is no fool he has no doubt dealt with silver tongued salesman before i imagine there is a memo and I hope changes are made in the summer one way or another.
04 Jan 2026 11:00:44
this would all be pretty hilarious reading if we go on to win CL this season and then spend the next 5+ years dominating the league and europe :p :D.
04 Jan 2026 11:54:53
In JH's eyes we'll have won the league and secured top 4 in this teams 2 seasons together. IMHO i reckon its crazy to think he'll be anything but happy with that.
04 Jan 2026 12:09:41
Thanks TheFields
From my perspective, and I would think most of us on here, please feel free as you wish.
There will always be a couple who, for whatever reason, seem to get offended by posts. It comes with the territory I suppose
But I just feel that the info you give, is actually quite insightful and gives me a feeling of at least being that little bit closer to the club that I support and love, so I appreciate your posts mate.
04 Jan 2026 12:17:59
DE. Explain how its celebrity gossip? Its an opinion of a person that is within the game of football, doing a high level job at the club I support that imo he is no good at. Surely everything on here regarding players, staff etc is just celebrity gossip by your accounts then.
So should we all just stop talking about Slot not being good enough as well? Because that falls in the same realm.
04 Jan 2026 18:54:08
Mr fields,
"People like XXX . make me not want to post at all tbh"
I really appreciate your input to this site, along with many other posters that take time to contribute with the information they have.
I know there is a lot of negativity around at the moment, I've even gone from questioning why we aren't all supporting Slot to wishing he wasn't our manager anymore. But the information people like yourself provide is interesting and generates hope for the future, so please keep posting, and know that many people on this site are grateful that you do.
