All the excuses coming out at the moment are a load of bull in relation to Guehi, they just didn't want to pay for him. Its as simple as that. On a side note, first contact has been made with Alonso since his sacking. Early stages, with more talks to take place as the season continues.
16 Jan 2026 18:31:26
Thanks thefields for all your amazing info. Any idea on details of contact with XA? What's your opinion on him? I like most on here really value your opinion. Thanks again.
16 Jan 2026 18:37:28
Hello the fields thanks for the update, how sure are you about the contact with Alonso? I assume it will be in regards to the summer? Thanks.
16 Jan 2026 18:37:34
Thanks mate. Is it a certainty the slot gets sacked this summer even if we end up in top4.
16 Jan 2026 18:42:55
Impossible Fields. He was a greedy butt-wipe asking for over the odds wages - at least that was the narrative being thrown about. Recently, there was a post about info being leaked, and I'm starting to believe that, although the leaked info is that which paints the club in an innocent light whilst everyone else is to blame - basically damage control We can all see what is needed, what has happened, I. e.
Semenyo really wanted us, Guehi giving us his word apparently, and now they are being made the turncoats. I may be totally wrong, and this may just be my conspiracy theorist personality coming out, but the senior guys at our club, Edward's, Hughes, Ward and Slot just don't seem. to be on the same page, with all of them pulling in different directions, and the result. is that we basically stand still Very worrying to me.
16 Jan 2026 18:50:55
If guehi reported wages of £300k is correct not should we be going near that. V Good steady player who would've been good signing for us but not at that sort of wages.
16 Jan 2026 18:51:57
Dodged a bullet. He's a liability. The fact he's probably England's best CB is a damming indictment of how poor the others are.
16 Jan 2026 18:55:55
Fields is spot on. Ta.
16 Jan 2026 18:58:31
The fields, I'm guessing it be a summer replacement? Is there any other teams in for him?
16 Jan 2026 18:59:45
To hear about Alonso is good news. In fact to hear that there'll be big changes in the club this coming summer is all good news. I cannot wait to see the back of Slot, his assembly, our football director or whatever he is or they are, McAllister and Konate.
We'll be in a much better place after that. It's a pity it's taken a lost season of turmoil to get there though. Anyway, the future is ours!
16 Jan 2026 19:06:19
Was never going to pay the lad 300k before he kicked a ball. Let the cheats have him ta, ra.
16 Jan 2026 19:24:18
Insane comments. If we'd just got him lined up on jan 1st with a contract. It would have been done and dusted. As if HG CB's, who are captains and prem proven are a dime a dozen.
16 Jan 2026 19:25:55
Cheers Fields ??.
16 Jan 2026 19:51:26
Thanks fields / carra One question chaps, who didn't want to pay, the clowns Hughes and Edwards or did this come from higher? Cheers
Drogie.
16 Jan 2026 19:35:36
Thanks for the info fields it very much appreciated, issue I have is if we don't make champions league as it's in the balance in my opinion, we can talk all we like he won't come to us.
16 Jan 2026 19:41:48
Of Alonso comes in and Slot goes, Arns can take Edwards and Hughes with him But I'm guessing they will stay as it will be then current talking to Xabi?
16 Jan 2026 20:13:37
Don't think Edwards will go,
16 Jan 2026 20:24:34
I'm sorry i don't agree with MG being greedy, he could have stayed until end of season and probably got more money being a free transfer.
If he gave his word then broke it, that is worse for me, personally speaking I'm very much toward honour, and giving your word is a big thing.
16 Jan 2026 20:39:07
Here's hoping xavi is on his way.
16 Jan 2026 20:46:53
City have more money, they offer a better deal, we can't compete with our wage structure, simple. Anyone ignorant enough to believe that a players word can't be bought is delusional. If I throw you 250k a week you'll break every promise you ever made.
16 Jan 2026 20:58:56
We are looking more and more like a Circus. We needed Guehi as an additional defender even if we didn't make a marquee defensive signing until the Summer. Desperately low on defensive numbers for the 2nd half of the season. God knows what our Summer signings think of what's gone on this Season or our Star players from last season who were promised big things were ahead for the team and them.
Man City have stolen a march on us after we were briefly in control and they must be laughing.
16 Jan 2026 20:59:25
Cheers The Fields and Carra for the recent revelations ?.
16 Jan 2026 21:04:01
I don't get the drama. Why would be pay him 250-300k per week. He's a good player but that's crazy money. City aren't real, they're propped up.
{Ed001's Note - because he wouldn't have cost us that. We had the deal agreed in the summer, told him we would be back and then never bothered, but we could have got him for less.}
16 Jan 2026 21:05:24
Isn't Edward's remit across more than Liverpool? I thought he was supposed to be across all FSG's (potential) football operations?
{Ed001's Note - yes, but what other football operations do they have?}
16 Jan 2026 21:23:19
Only info on Alonso was there has been contact, no specifics. I don't doubt it happened.
Guehi, was more the fee than wages. They would rather pump it into potential wonderkids for the academy.
On the 3 Stooges (Edwards, Ward, STC). I have not heard nothing new but I would be surprised if Edwards and Ward go anywhere, the STC is another matter tho.
16 Jan 2026 22:07:20
I'm actually surprised how many on here are calling for heads and saying the club is a shambles. I'd have thought it'd be the other way around. pitchforks would be out at thought of giving Slot another 100 mil worth of players. Strange time to be an LFC supporter where seemingly no one is happy - kinda goes to show how entitled we are.
Why throw another 100 mil at a problem (Slot) knowing you're moving him on in 6 months? Why not wait, hope Slot can do enough to keep us in CL (I think he can), and allow the next coach/ manager to spend that 100 mil (plus whatever else is planned for transfers) on players he actually wants? Sure, it's a bit of a risk. But so is giving Slot another 100 mil worth of new players after seeing what he's done with 450 mil worth of players in the summer.
16 Jan 2026 22:13:32
You're right Ed about if we'd sorted the deal earlier, but in terms of today's deal it wouldn't make much sense financially because of what our other players would then demand off the back of paying him those wages.
The rumour is we would match the fee today, but wouldn't pay the wages. The cock up was in the summer mainly.
The other side of this is there's loads of other good centre backs around, so why fixate just on him. That's been another major failing of the club in recent years, we do seem to fixate on single targets like Zubimendi and when we don't get them there's no contingency plan.
16 Jan 2026 22:19:49
Thanks fields and carra.
16 Jan 2026 22:41:26
Cheers Fields, if Carra says you're right then that's good enough for me.
16 Jan 2026 22:44:31
"Why throw another 100 mil at a problem" apart from the fact we're thin on the ground with defenders and lack pace and physicality up front, and these players were long term targets who'd have improved the squad regardless of who the manager is, and don't be so confident we'd get champions league. We can't beat the likes of Leeds United and Notts Forest.
16 Jan 2026 23:12:03
I was never all that sold on Guehi anyway. For me, now more than ever you need 2 big strong centre backs who are good in the air at set pieces and good in one in one situations.
Every team we play wants to target set pieces and fast breaks isolating the centre backs.
Guehi doesn't excel at either of those things. I'd say he's about as good as Gomez but without the injuries (so far). Gomez doesn't get in our starting 11 so why would we want Gomez 2.0?
Just my opinion.
16 Jan 2026 23:22:11
VV you missed the point. Slot got 450mil worth of the best talent available over the summer and has done squat with them. Why do you think these 2 players would have any impact right now?
Stop pointing out who we can't beat - I can come right back and say we've beaten Arsenal and Villa who are both above us. Those types of comments are pointless.
17 Jan 2026 00:23:59
Still need at least one CB regardless of Guehi not joining. Going in the meaty end of the season with 3 CB's, one an aging and whilst still v. good waning legend, one absolute clown dressed as a footballer and an out of practice utility defender is not a good idea.
17 Jan 2026 10:23:35
Vv agree completely. The signings would of been for slot very short term. Whoever the new guy in charge would of loved them too. guehi instant upgrade on konate who's got worse the longer he's been here and semenyo was tailor made for salahs replacement, If the club didn't want to pay for guehi that's a different matter all together.
Trying to get him on a free was never going to happen.
Cheers carra and fields.
