Dom deserves a new contract, and he is an excellent player, but if he's our future captain, then we'll have a squad with very few leaders in it.
As I said, Dom is an excellent player, but he's prone to showing off and I don't feel he is as competitive or focused during games as he should be, even though he works tirelessly.
It's a bit of a dichotomy.
Just my opinion.

I agree with Scouse John our midfield is weak but I think it's sorted with just one change.
Get rid of MacAllister and bring in Ederson, Sidiki, Stiller or Baleba job done
Separately I would sell Gakpo and bring in Barcola and then let Mo go to Saudi and bring in Olise that's the front line and wide spaces sorted
2 CBs and a decent RB with Gomez, Konate both moving on.
Schlotterback and Diomande for me with Givairo Read fighting for the RB place with Bradley.
Alonso pisses the league with that team.

Agree. Szobo has an engine but sorely lacks technical ability to play in either an 8 or a 10. Good player to have in and around the side but I do think he is replaceable. Has all the physical attributes but doesn't seem to be able to impose himself or take a game by the scruff of the neck.

Some of the takes on Szoboszlai here I must say I've never seen or heard anywhere else, even from our rivals. He's one of the few players we have who actually will put his body on the line. He regularly throws himself into full body blocks that you only really see Bradley, Konate or Kerkez also do. Seems to me that many of these comments are an emotional over reaction to one bad/ cocky decision vs Barnsley and one missed penalty vs Burnley. He had a bad week, that is all.
He battles hard, he probably has the best passing range in the squad other than Van Dijk, he hits his shots with that physics defying 'wobble' like prime Drogba did, he drives us forward and also is the first one tracking back etc. I'm honestly baffled by some of these assessments of him.
Whether or not he's a good choice for captain is purely subjective, but saying he lacks technical ability and doesn't make tackles is just objectively wrong. The reason he's on set pieces is because his technique is second to none in the squad and the reason our press fell apart early on in the season was because he was too deep and therefore not winning tackles or making blocks higher up the pitch. There are so few players in world football capable of striking the ball how Dom does and anyone who has played will know that takes an insane amount of technical ability. The Jay Spearing comparison is just, wow, speechless.
Amongst all this praise though, I do have to say that I agree with one thing Frode said, in that Dom needs to score and assist more. His decision making at times is quite poor as he often passes when he should shoot and shoots when he should pass. He still has 6 goals and 5 assists in 29 games which isn't bad, but for all the ability he has it should be more.

No disrespect to Hungary - international football team with a great history - but captaining in international football a few times a year and captaining in the most intense and physically demanding league with the highest wages and some of the biggest profiles. It's not comparable.
Dom's a good player to have, he's not a captain in the premier league IMO.

Even Jays mum and dad would struggle to agree with that opinion. Ok maybe some believe he is not captain material, but players can raise to the challenge and grow into the role.

According to social media there was a bit of a 'pivot' over night and Dom himself has said nothing has been agreed yet. I'm assuming that the lad does have a contribution to the actual conversation in the real world, unlike some of the social media parallel universes.

Agree with everything MK Scouser said. One thing I will add is that he has played that many positions this season, it might throw his figures off. If regularly playing in the same position higher up the pitch, he probably would score more.
The assist count this season is hard to read also, with so many missed opportunities in front of goal. Another factor could be the added pressure from Slot not to lose the ball and play it safe, rather than shoot or try the risky pass.

Scouse John is spot on. I've argued from the start it's the midfield. They've exposed a defence that was previously well covered. Argument to suggest it could be tactics but the priority for me. above defence.

The best player for sure he deserves it. He is our future captain and superstar. He is the man who keeps everyone level… don't see that from anyone else except Salah and Virgil who are on limited time with the team.

Dom (25 years old), Wirtz (22) and Ekitike (23) have their best years ahead of them and they should be integral to our successes for future years. Irrespective of who our manager / head coach is next season, these lads will grow as an attacking unit and will take some stopping.
On a different note it is good to see Frimpong and Kerkez settling in and looking like they know what they are doing.
