Hi all,
Trent and his team are sounding out, through media intermediaries, the possibility of returning to Liverpool.
This is not an option on our side.
29 Oct 2026 15:05:30
Good he is yesterdays news.
29 Oct 2026 15:12:51
He learnt well from Owen. He just need to sign for Newcastle and the Manc to complete the circle now. You made your bed, lie in it.
29 Oct 2026 15:18:53
Better to let that ship sail. It would cause too much disruption. If he gets his place back, then Araujo has to be moved back to CB. He didn't come to us to be backup RB.
And if Araujo moves to CB then that disrupts that entire Jacquet, Leoni, VVD, Gomez, Ndukwe thing. Too much of a hassle. Maybe some improvement in offense, maybe not, but at what cost?
29 Oct 2026 15:51:19
Trent and his team can sound out anyone they want - only thing that matters is what Andoni and the club want - if they think he will improve the starting 11 and it's at the right price then maybe, who knows.
I imagine he's on silly wages though and can't see us wanting to get anywhere near them, can't see Madrid giving him away for buttons either ?♂️
No doubting he was a class player for us for a few years before he started thinking he was Pirlo and convinced the waistcoat he was a midfield starter for England. However If that's what AI thinks the team needs then fair play but I don't see it myself.
29 Oct 2026 15:55:30
He gave his entire youth and adult life to Liverpool. Won everything. Then he wanted a change - as most of us do. Certainly I would have. Wanted to test himself somewhere else, experience something outside the confines of a city where he was worshipped by many.
I understand that for some, him leaving felt like betrayal. But back in the real world. I applauded him. Sure it would have been nice to get £100m for him. But he had given heart and soul for so long. He deserved to go after whatever challenge he could.
For all those that now speak ill of him - are you still working for the very first company you started working for? Or are you still with your very first boy/girlfriend?
We forget in all our adulation of our heroes that they just as human as each of us. And at the same time, these pages are full of attacking a great player the moment he does something not to our liking.
I actually think it's pathetic. Why not say - yes for sure he's a great player but wouldn't suit out system anymore? It's way better than belting out vitriol. Which is so easy sat behind a keyboard.
{Ed025's Note - hard to disagree with that Duffer, good post mate..
29 Oct 2026 16:06:24
I can only agree Duffer.
Would he, like any other player we buy improve our squad..Yes!
That is what we want at the club. The Club is bigger than all of us. YNWA.
29 Oct 2026 16:10:12
It's not that he left, Duffer, that angers a lot of people. It's how he left.
If he was up front and honest about his intentions to leave as soon as he knew it was a foregone conclusion then I think fans would've been far more accepting of it. It's not like he was some martyr putting body and soul on the line for the club for nothing. Like other players, he was rewarded handsomely with a lovely wage slip during his time here. On his way out the door, he leveraged the fans love for him through the media to get himself in a comfy position in Madrid.
29 Oct 2026 16:14:25
Duffer you have no idea why he moved, same as the rest of us - unless you know him personally off course?
I agree with your statement regarding being at the club since he was a kid etc, but I guarantee you if he'd started out in Tranmere's academy instead of ours he'd have been out of their sharpish - Trent did very well out of being at Liverpool under Klopp and Liverpool done well by having him as a player - but you paint it like he sacrificed something by being at the club.
I have zero idea why he moved, or any interest - as you say he can make his own decisions like the rest of us can. I'm not having we should all think he's worthy of eternal adulation though, for me he turned into a living version of his ego and stopped being the humble kid that got him where he is - hopefully this experience might bring some of that humbleness back (I doubt it personally tho)
29 Oct 2026 16:16:15
i always thought that he could have been a half decent winger, but for
mane and salah obviously being much better.
i totally agree with you about the haters on here, just look at the crap young bradley gets, a fine rb, unfortunately got a massive injury, now everyone hates the lad and calls him injury prone and not good enough.
to be honest its a bit shameful the way people talk about our players.
29 Oct 2026 16:24:29
What Victor said - fully agree pal.
I think his mind was made up when Slot subbed him off early in the season when he was practically popping up on the left wing.
He was a great world class full back, bang average inverted one, and championship level midfielder.
Slot wanted a full back, Trent wanted a free role - I called him leaving during the game, and I wasn't gutted, I'm not saying he was a bad fullback far from it, but if the manager wants you to do a job you don't want to do - you become Manchester United and nobody wants to see that, not even United fans haha.
29 Oct 2026 16:49:41
Difficult situation because it feels like this is cutting your nose off to spite your face in many ways. A player who is probably much better than any of our current full backs overall (possibly harsh on Araujo who hasn't put a foot wrong), despite the fanfare regarding his defensive capabilities more than competent enough and better then probably 99% of available options. That said the way he left, his effort level particularly in that United game at Anfield and age got to be factored in.
Real shame it ever came to this as his 'dream' Madrid move has probably stopped him becoming the full time captain of his boyhood club and treated as a legend which his time at the club he should be having won the lot.
29 Oct 2026 16:56:16
Just got wind of similar information surprisingly.
Diddly out.
29 Oct 2026 17:10:31
TAA would cause the same dressing room disruption as Rashford returning to man utd, Andoni would not have him, even if TAA paid his own transfer fee, that would entail LFC literally crawling back for him on their hands and knees, this club is too big for crawling back for any player past and present.
He made his bed, let him "LIE" on it.
YNWA Andoni.
29 Oct 2026 17:11:01
@Alex - just my opinion pal
Trent is without doubt one of the best passers of a ball I've seen, that includes set pieces, corners etc.
If that's what you want from a full back then he's world class, my view is what does the manager want though - Southgate didn't fancy him, Tuchel doesn't, Jose doesn't etc ?♂️ for me that's only one of 2 things: his ability to do what they want and need, or his attitude and willingness to do it?
For me Trent is deadly when he has time and space on the ball as his right foot is like the Elder Wand - put him under pressure, close him down, put one over the top and turn him etc then the thing that makes him great is nullified and he's just a defender and that's where he stops being world class.
I loved Trent still do but that doesn't get away from what any team needs or manager wants from their fullback. If a team sets up to give their full back time and space to hurt the opposition and wants a set piece master then Trent's your boy - if you want a pure defender who can get up and down and will be disciplined there's better options imo.
29 Oct 2026 17:14:32
I don't really care how he left, I just don't think he's good enough anymore to improve the first team and I don't think he would work as a right back or a midfielder in the 4231 that we're playing now.
29 Oct 2026 17:15:54
I agree with Horse that the crucial opinion is the managers. I don't think he will fit the managers plans but I'm happy with whatever Iraola thinks.
Rushie was the exception but by and large you should never go back. It never really works out. Even someone as good as Ronaldo couldn't make a success of coming back.
For that reason alone I'm against the idea but happy to go with the managers choice.
29 Oct 2026 17:19:17
Trent's mind was made up to leave when he started to learn Spanish.
29 Oct 2026 17:25:46
Crazy Horse, I do agree with regards to only ever Klopp has 100% been on board with him and there has always been rumours on his attitude but you'd like to think he'd come back with a point to prove and goes back to does he improve on Bradley, Frimpong etc that's 100% a yes.
As touched on by others, it rarely works out well when players go back so probably best to steer clear.
29 Oct 2026 17:31:28
Won't happen. And I don't think it should.
29 Oct 2026 17:51:11
I am going to give my two penneth here.
I thank Trent for helping us to win all of those trophies.
I have no issue with him leaving or the way he left.
I don't really want him back but if he came back I would cheer him on.
29 Oct 2026 18:04:47
He would get games as a rotation player, who wouldn't want that passing range Vs certain set ups?
City, Chelsea or Arsenal would be my guess though.
29 Oct 2026 18:25:51
Aruajo is our RB and CB, and he is really good but also his leaderrship qualities of being a captain are seen in games.
Jacquet is a future captain, which you can see by example,
Trent coming back doesn't improve the squad it will just move us back 2 years.
29 Oct 2026 19:15:11
I Wonder if he's learning Scouse?
29 Oct 2026 19:37:52
He ran his contract down to earn the massive contract and to appease Madrid. Doing that as a scouser is why so many are angry, disappointed and even disgusted.
29 Oct 2026 19:40:41
Who cares what he wants? He didn't care that the fans wanted him to stay. Zero Fuchs given on his behalf back then, let him go to spurs bright lights big city play in white but probably better off in Germany. So it's a big fat no from me.
29 Oct 2026 19:48:14
@Alex - agree prime Trent probably improves us over Bradley & Frimpong even if it's just him generally not being injured as much as they seem to be.
My question is: let's say the club decide they want a new right back, would they just limit themselves to looking at Trent - for the transfer fee and wages are there better options - in the same way you're thinking is Trent still better than we've got, do you think he's better than any alternatives we could go after?
29 Oct 2026 19:49:36
Depends on the package, fee, wages etc
Free up to 10 million no problem.
Wages he was on before he left, no problem.
Big apology - a must.
Let us not pretend he does not have a skill set we could easily utilise.
29 Oct 2026 20:59:10
The alternatives out there is what brings me back to probably favouring Trent coming back. Palestra was one mentioned in pre season and being at the game last night he offered nothing when he came on and played left back, Gusto was rumoured in the summer and again he was terrible last night. Read from Feyenoord obviously is talented but coming off a big knee injury in a much weaker league, Kayode at Brentford in a back 3/5 so how much does that cover his weaknesses as it did with Frimpong.
I suspect there are plenty of options out there that I haven't realised as potential options, my few year sabbatical from football manager has really begun to show!
29 Oct 2026 21:07:02
Would love to have him back.
29 Oct 2026 21:23:51
Evening.
Two questions on this, rather than forcing my view down everyone's throat.
1. Are we a better team since he left?
2. Would he make us a better team?
I think we all know the answers. Football is a simple game.
29 Oct 2026 21:31:40
@Shughes, yesterday's news you say? Why are we talking about him today and, no doubt tomorrow?
29 Oct 2026 22:52:46
He ain't winning the ballon do'r as the third choice Liverpool right back.
29 Oct 2026 23:01:49
Completely agree with Duffer. Nobody knows when he decided to leave, when did he tell the club, what said during negotiations, what promises were made or not etc etc unless anyone knows Trent personally or one of the staff negotiating. I would have him back, why, because he gave us something that we now miss. However if the manager says No that's it.
29 Oct 2026 23:33:03
For those old enough to remember, macmanaman was castigated for announcing he was going at the start of his last season.
Like I said previously you're damned if you do or don't. Just because players are local doesn't mean they have to shackle themselves to the club ad infinitum. It's a relatively short career so let's have some perspective please and leave the lad alone.
29 Oct 2026 23:35:09
Top of the range virtue signalling there Duffer.
Arnold Rat can do one. He could have stayed and been a club legend, but he clearly decided going to Madrid means more. He's injury prone and absolutely rinsed. Don't want that cretin or his equally cretinous brothers anywhere near the club.
He's 29 next October, he's not going to get better or improve his defensive performances and his fitness is just going to get worse as well. He can join Tranmere or Everton for all I care, though I'd expect even they have standards.
30 Oct 2026 04:20:59
Can't wait for the next exciting daily episode of 'Trent, love him or hate him', coming to your choice of social media tomorrow.
30 Oct 2026 04:26:43
For the right money (fee and contract), the right motivation on his end then I would pursue him for sure.
In the high likelihood that he doesn't return then I hope he is just left be. doesn't sound like he's wanted by a bunch of fans anyways.
30 Oct 2026 05:23:33
I will be over the moon to see Trent sign a contract for any other club except Liverpool.
30 Oct 2026 08:24:05
Some good responses on both sides there.
But the jilted ones stick out like a sore thumb.
30 Oct 2026 08:38:19
Depends on his wages, what the manager wants from his RB - and the his attitude / willingness to do what the manager wants.
If all those things align, have to say Trent is a better option than either Frimpong or Bradley.
Also depends on whether the club have deals lined up for younger RB's (like Kayode or Banjaqui). But there's not that many good RB's around atm.
30 Oct 2026 09:00:32
Trent was fantastic for us and noone can dispute that but that was under Klopp, we have moved on and i don't think he fits in the team anymore. but if AI wants him then we will just get behind the team and manager as always.
30 Oct 2026 09:23:14
I'm in the "moving on" camp. An excellent ex-Liverpool player who left for pastures new.
I don't particularly bear any grudges, just a firm believer in "Never go back".
All things must pass. He moved on, so must we.
30 Oct 2026 10:29:23
I'm all for him coming back, especially if he improves us.
What I didn't like about how he left was his brother getting involved (similar to what Mainoo's brother was doing to get him back in the team)
The main thing though from what VG has said is that we're not interested by all accounts. I think it's probably good that Iraola wants willing runners and is maybe looking at alternative options which would be more viable?
Be interesting to see how this plays out!
Cheers for info VG.
30 Oct 2026 11:53:15
We got the best out of Trent. He's been on the decline for a while. Loved him during the Klopp years but we need a rb who can defend.
30 Oct 2026 16:21:49
Lol duffer,
Pull the other one. He's got humiliated at his "dream club" and got found out as an overall limited player in a physical game. You try to gaslight fans in supporting the club spending tens of millions on a past it player to save his career he derailed himself.
Why do soo many top managers not fancy him? Gaslight on that.
