Can anybody name one player that Slot has improved since at the club? Under Klopp and even BR they improved players which also increased their value and made them huge assets to the club which allowed us sell on for massive profit to improve our squad.

I see nothing but regression from every single player he inherited or brought into the club.

He's made every opposition player look world class. Does that count?

16 Apr 2026 16:57:25
Last season you could say Gravenburch and Gakpo plus Salah arguably peaked. Szoboszlai has developed and Rio is coming along nicely.

16 Apr 2026 16:59:22
Now that's funny, Shipley... well played, mate. ?

Take a bow!

16 Apr 2026 20:59:51
Maybe Dom?
Ekitike looks like he became better since coming in. Then again you could argue he then went a bit backwards after a strong start.

16 Apr 2026 15:04:14
RIP Alex Manninger, another gone too soon.

{Ed025's Note - yeah really sad BK..

Alex RIP.

Considering our season is pretty much dead, I have a question about managers. Moreover, about ex players who become managers, especially after seeing the work ex players have done to manage teams to CL semis.

Question is threefold.

1. Do ex players make better managers than non ex players?

2.

Do ex players who played in certain positions make better managers? eg. Ex strikers better than ex midfielders.

3. Do ex players who were at a higher elite level become better managers than those ex players who were never at elite status?

I don't think that being an ex player or not comes into it other than you are more likely to be given that first opportunity over somebody who has never played.

I'm certainly no expert, but for me it would be about footballing intelligence and those elite players who possess a footballing brain to read, control and influence the game whilst playing will likely be good at doing the same from the sidelines as a manager.

The elite players who are naturally gifted players who play purely on god-given talent and instinct are probably less likely to succeed in management.

As for position, there are plenty of examples of top managers who played in all sorts of different positions so I'm not sure that really comes into it (but now I'm considering starting a thread of best 11 of players who went on to become top managers).

16 Apr 2026 23:01:06
I think being a big name ex player can command a level of respect. I wouldn't suggest him taking over for a second, but if Gerrard walked in as manager in the summer, he'd have a lot more respect from players than someone like Iraola.

We need a personality. Slot isn't that. Klopp is. Mourinho is. Simeone is. Alonso could be that on top of being an excellent manager who's shown he can win titles.

16 Apr 2026 12:17:33
If Slot stays on as manager it will have catastrophic consequences on the club both on and off the field. He'll be scked by next October anyway at the latest. It just doesn't make any sense to keep him.

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 13:26:56
100% agree, this summer is huge, a lot of work needs to be done. How can the club justify investing more money into a project that spent 450m and went ass backwards? It is beyond me. Come October, that leaves us up s*** creek, right back where we were in December with no suitable replacement available.

Get the right man in for the job, come May, and give him what he needs for his vision, because clearly Slot and Edwards don't actually have one. Anything less is completely unacceptable.

16 Apr 2026 08:49:03
Now that Ekitike is out for 9 months, is there any chance that the hierarchy could ask Salah to stay till Xmas? With Isak so injury prone, we are very light up front.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 10:13:39
No.

Isak should be fully fit, Danns and Wright will likely get chances off the bench, plus we have other forwards who can also cover through the middle.

Rather than making him stay, focus should be on getting a top quality Salah replacement who could potentially also offer cover through the middle.

16 Apr 2026 10:28:54
I agree with you there, Shipley. Always look forward. Who knows, this could be the opportunity that Danns and/or Will Wright need to break through.

16 Apr 2026 10:30:05
Would be an upside to signing Gordon. Can go through the middle.

16 Apr 2026 12:43:21
Can see Gakpo getting another year as striker.

Cheaper option on the wing, like that Toure guy maybe.

16 Apr 2026 12:43:44
Gordon is as crap through the middle as he is out wide. Doesn't have two brain cells to rub together to make a spark nor the end product. Only thing he's fit for is being a stunt double for Claire Balding at Crufts.

16 Apr 2026 13:28:35
Cracker that, Viktor.

16 Apr 2026 15:59:33
Only thing is he'd be away at the World Cup for a team that will go far so that could slow down any move.

16 Apr 2026 08:37:21
Really hope we are smart and sensible in the market this summer. If we could pick up Senesi on a free for CB cover and Mingueza for RB for free that's two positions covered for only signing on fees. For me we need two midfielders and id like us to go for Alex Scott and Joao Gomes. Both could be had for sensible fees.

Stiller another one if we can't get the two I mentioned. Money needs to be saved for two new wingers. Diomande is a must and perhaps someone like Alikouche.

For me we need:-
CB cover
RB starter
2x midfielders
2x wingers

Nyoni and McConnell need looking at and a decision made if kept or a prem loan.

16 Apr 2026 10:20:57
We need to sign a starting RB, RW and CM for me. Then, it is about building squad depth.

In addition to Nyoni and McConnell, there is also Luca Stephenson. For me, he would be a great alternative to somebody like Endo, as he is able to cover DM and CB. I think we could really have used him at times this season.

16 Apr 2026 10:34:15
Think Stephenson's done very well in Scotland. Be good to have a look at him in pre season.

15 Apr 2026 23:13:34
Not an ITK, just decided to make a list of players we could potentially sign this summer.

Schlotterbeck
Senesi
Bassey
Hall

Andre
Joao Gomes
Anderson
Wharton
Scott
Onana

Fofana
Diomande
Barcola
Gordon

I know thoughts are divided on him but think Gordon would be perfect for us, plays multiple positions, local lad and gives his all every single game, we've lacked that passion/drive and he would bring it.

Also personally think we need some leaders in, somebody to fire a rocket up others when we're playing poorly.

Anybody in that list people would like to see? Anderson, Gordon and Andre would definitely add some steel and passion IMO.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 12:47:16
Gordon? Steel? You've got to be joking. He's as soft as particularly volcanic diarrhoea him.

16 Apr 2026 14:02:18
Bassey? Shirley, you can't be serious?

{Ed025's Note - love it Rome..

15 Apr 2026 19:46:15
After David Ornstein reports the hell is happening to our club. Mo gone, Robertson gone, Ali off to Juventus. And now Ornstein again reporting slots job is safe. Top 5 no chance and must sell players to buy new as slot as stated. What a mess this club is in. Klopp's hard work gone

Agree4

15 Apr 2026 20:45:58
Bit dramatic. We get Champs Lge football and move on.

16 Apr 2026 09:01:38
We will get top five.

16 Apr 2026 12:48:23
With due respect, Florian, you also said we'd beat City & PSG, maybe you should sit this one out.

16 Apr 2026 23:04:02
Is being in the Champions League even a big deal when we keep getting dumped out early on? Yea, there's the money side, but I'd rather win the Europa than go out in the last 16/8 again.

15 Apr 2026 18:25:14
Our summer shopping list looks extensive.
Fingers crossed Ali stays.
LB do we trust Tsimikas or look to youth?
RB seems essential with Bradley's injuries and Frimpong not up to scratch.
CM another essential.
RW essential.

And now with Ekitike out, do we also look to add a striker? Gakpo could be used through the middle but isn't really suited for it and in my opinion, and would be better rotating with Rio on the left.

Add to that some fringe players possibly leaving - Elliot, Endo and Chiesa and we look very short.

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 22:10:21
Gakpo can leave with his mother's boyfriend. He is a highly paid dud.

16 Apr 2026 06:51:19
Jacquet signing and Leoni returning secures us at CB. If Konate does go, maybe we could see a cheap option like Senesi, but it looks like Ibou might stay. I'd really rather he left and we sign Senesi. He's a better footballer with and without the ball. Konate is simply a better athlete.

RB and LB, I really think we should be looking to youth. Kerkez and Frimpong cost £70m less than a year ago, both coming in with good reputations. Bradley is only injured, not dead! Tsimikas is still there if we decide to keep him. We have Beck, Chambers, Ramsay, Stephenson etc. Stephenson especially looks fantastic and is far too good for Scottish football. Wasting critical funds on a 3rd RB or a 3rd LB when we've not even given the talented young lads we do have a chance, seems like a crazy decision.

CM is absolutely essential. I fully agree. Macca obviously doesn't want to be here.

His lack of effort against PSG was clear to see. He just let Dembele waltz past him. Joao Gomes would be my pick, but I also like Mateus Fernandes at West Ham. We don't need a player like Wharton or Camavinga, who both just strut about playing neat passes. We need some real mobility and defensive effort.

RW and LW are both essential. Gakpo, whether we like it or not, and also assuming he stays, will probably be needed as a CF a lot next season. Rio is still only 17. Salah and Chiesa will leave. It's critical to sign 2 wingers with genuine pace and the ability to go past a full back and put in a cross. Minteh/Toure and Gordon/Diomande would be my picks, because I think you want one left footer and one right footer out wide. It gives you good variation. Diomande and Toure are better on paper, but then Minteh and Gordon have Prem experience.

16 Apr 2026 12:50:20
Diomande is better than Gordon & Minteh, period. Gordon is the Stewart Downing option, and Minteh has no end product. Hard pass on those two.

{Ed025's Note - wow...i cant believe there is actually a player who you like VV.. :)
