Fun Friday question for you Ladies and Gents.

Who would you rather Liverpool sign Jarrod Bowen or Adama Traore?

Ed666

1.) 04 Dec 2021 00:05:14
I'd rather sign Jim Bowen than Traore!

2.) 04 Dec 2021 00:11:26
Bowen for me!

3.) 04 Dec 2021 08:48:06
Traore, watching him dribble past 10 players and then sky it into row Z 5 times a game will be good exercise for my heart and keep it nice and healthy.
That's my selfish answer.

4.) 04 Dec 2021 09:05:56
Quality answers Rugby and Maximosa 🤣.

Judging on form of late (last couple of seasons) it would be Bowen but if rumours are to be believed Klopp has been a long time admirer of Traore.

The good news is Traore is rumoured to be available at 18 mill which is 17.9 mill more than what we have in the transfer budget.

5.) 04 Dec 2021 10:05:41
Traore is like Mark Walter's brother, great to look at with the skill and all, but a rubbish footballer.

6.) 04 Dec 2021 10:08:13
For as many players as Klopp has improved (Salah, Robertson, TAA, VVD, Mané, Firmino etc), there are a few he couldn't do much with (Keita, Lovren, Ox etc) . Although, I like Bowen far more than Traoré, my gut feeling is that the scope for improvement with Traoré is higher than with Bowen. I think if Klopp and Traoré can work on his last pass or kick, we may have something there. Bowen is a better player right now, and fits Klopp's philosophy of football quite well. But so does Traoré, as a forward, if that one aspect of his game can be fixed. And if that is achieved, he becomes a lethal player. Far more impact than what Bowen can give. I could be wrong, but I'm a risk taker. 🤞🏽.

7.) 04 Dec 2021 11:29:38
Think the Ox has improved under Klopp.

Bowen would be good and far less erratic than Traore.

8.) 04 Dec 2021 11:40:14
Yes ArAy but don't you know they couldn't teach Traore at the famous La Masia.

Sorry VVVV, I just couldn't help myself 😆.

9.) 04 Dec 2021 13:01:10
Bowen no contest.

10.) 04 Dec 2021 13:22:18
Don’t slag off a Wolves player an hour n half before kick off lads. Don’t need that karma.

11.) 04 Dec 2021 13:39:34
The idea that somehow Traore can be coached into becoming even a half decent finisher or passer is simply ridiculous. Take that logic, and apply it to Origi and ask why isn’t Origi a 20 goal a season striker if it is so easy to coach these things. I’m sure that Traore is a very likeable decent chap. But he’s a terrible footballer I’m afraid and not one that is capable of playing at a top club because he’s got no end product he has limitations that cannot be corrected.

12.) 04 Dec 2021 14:51:08
I think Bowen just proved his worth. Doubt West Ham are going to let him go without a scrap though.

13.) 04 Dec 2021 14:54:56
If anything, Bowen showed why he’s more of a Klopp type player this afternoon against Chelsea. Constantly closing down defenders, pressing, plenty of skill to go with it and a very well taken goal. I’d say his potential ceiling is far higher than Traore simply because he’s a better footballer and a harder worker.

Is Mo Salah as good as or better than Steve Gerrard? Discuss….

Ed666

1.) 16 Aug 2021 00:37:00
Salah is a legend. He has to be counted in that conversation. He’s got the goals, the consistency and the medals to back it up. Whether he’s better is a tough question. I’ll think about this one!

{Ed0666's Note - I look forward to you’re musings

2.) 16 Aug 2021 01:05:08
The Answer is Mo Salah is just as good as Gerrard.
What a shame we never got to see a prime Gerrard playing in the same team as Salah, managed of course by jurgen Klopp.

Mo's goalscoring figures would have been even better than they are now.

With all the talk of liverpool needing a midfielder you have reminded us all just how great Stevie G was.

You don't get off that easy ED666: what are your thoughts?

{Ed0666's Note - mate it’s the toughest question in the world. Funnily enough Gerard playing on the right was an even better player than he was in the middle. Salah plays on the right and he gets ridiculous goal returns for the past 4 seasons. Has he really been at LFC for that long? Seems like yesterday. Gerard beats Salah as a talisman as someone who could galvanize a last second winner but if you were to put a gun to my head I’d say Salah by the width of a strand of hair.

3.) 16 Aug 2021 01:36:56
I'd say it is too soon to say Ed0666. Gerrard's book as a player has been written whereas Salah's is only in its 5th year. (Or are you asking us to judge over full career, ie. Salah with Fiorentina, Roma and Chelsea too? ) . It's a very difficult question because I would classify Gerrard as team leader (in the vein of Souness and Dalglish) whereas Salah is a forward for me (like Keegan, Rush, Fowler etc etc) .

For now, as of today, if I had to make a choice then it would be Gerrard. Because he pulled the team along for many years. But then so did Salah last season; despite heroics from others. He's the main man at LFC today.

{Ed0666's Note - you make salient points mate. What a tough tough tough decision. Crazy!!!

hmmm Very difficult question but I think Mo is better. He didn't slip.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m Impressed with the research bro wow! I’ll let you off the snide remark at the end tho just because you took the effort to research you’re post. And don’t think that slip haunts gerrard every day. To do so much for the club and that’s his abiding memory for so many people is pretty sad and disappointing.

5.) 16 Aug 2021 02:06:21
There’s really no discussion for me. Mo runs circles around him. And Gerrard made me a Liverpool supporter.

{Ed0666's Note - wow loving these answers they are truly eye opening

6.) 16 Aug 2021 02:08:51
When I initially read this I was like Gerrard would spring to mind for most and as a reflux it did with me. But, I’m very vocal like most on the forum that Salah outside of Liverpool does not get the respect he truly deserves. Mostly because he does outstanding things so often it’s become the norm and gets overlooked, which is crazy and kind of backwards to me.

I’ll start with Gerrard who was Mr Liverpool for so long. He was essentially my memories of Liverpool growing up. He has won more domestic club cups but Salah has won the holy grail, the trophy that evaded a certain Mr Stevie G, which was the Premier League Title. Both have won the Champions League and both have scored in the finals. It’s hard to debate stats as one played in virtually every position in the team from right back to holding midfield to box to box to right midfield to just behind the striker. That can never be taken away from him, he essentially had it all. Although, he did refuse to play at right midfield having had his best season in that position. Another major point was he played in some very poor Liverpool sides yet dragged the team to success. For example the FA Cup final against West Ham and Champions League Final in Istanbul. I believe he still holds the record as being the only footballer to score in FA Cup Final, League Cup Final, Europa Cup Final and Champions League Cup Final. that's some going it has to be said.

Unfortunately what he was remembered for eventually led to his pretty quick decline towards the tail end of his time at the club. The years of virtually carrying the team took its toll on captain marvel and his legs simply went, which for someone who idolised him was sad to see. It’s like seeing your parents grow old and that figure you once held as a superhero and indestructible you start seeing their vulnerabilities and realise they are only human.

As for Salah, what can say. I simply love the man, love him. Salah does what it says on the tin for a striker and that’s score goals. Oh wait, I forgot he is not even a striker he is a winger or inside forward as it’s called these days, which makes his stats even more outrageous. The records he has broken and continues to break is nothing short of outstanding. He just broke one the other day in becoming the first player to score on the open fixture in 5 consecutive seasons. It’s not only his goal scoring record but he works hard for the team tracking back and is relentless with his pressing from the front. Also he has double figure Premier League assists in both his debut season and in the 2019/ 2020 campaign which I thought I would throw in there because people label him as selfish and someone who doesn’t contribute outside of scoring which is total nonsense.

Onto Salah’s time at the club. He was the first Liverpool player to score 20 Premier League goals in three seasons. The fastest player in Liverpool history to hit 50 Premier League goals and we have had some pretty decent strikers over the years, with Torres and Suarez to name a few. Is Liverpool’s all time goal scorer in the Champions League proper with 25 goals in 43 appearance ironically beating Gerrard who was his closest rival having scored 21 goals in 73 appearances. Holds the record for the most goals scored in a 38 game Premier League season with 32 goals. Now considering the strikers the Premier League has seen that is some achievement. The most goals scored in a debut season for a Liverpool player with 44 goals in the 2017/ 2018 season. The only player named Premier League player of the month 3 times in a single season. Most away goals scored in a single campaign by a Liverpool player with 20 goals in the 2020/ 2021 campaign. Joint highest goal scorer in their first 100 games as a Liverpool player joining the likes of Hunt and Raybould on 68 goals. Those are just to name a few records broken but I don’t want my message to go on too long, if it hasn’t already. Quite simply people need to put some respect on Salah’s name. The stats speak for themselves and he doesn’t show any signs of letting up anytime soon.

To sum up and answer the question. Is Salah as good as or better than Gerrard. It’s a tough one to debate due to different times, different positions, level of teams both have played under including management and coaching staff. Gerrard will always hold a special place in my heart and was naturally more gifted as player than Salah. But you cannot argue Salah’s stats. If Salah wins a domestic club cup, specifically the FA Cup alongside the Premier League and or the Champions League again and continues to score and break records for say this season and one more, which is looking likely than you would have to conclude Salah should be talked about in the same sentence with Gerrard if not above him when you mention Liverpool.

{Ed0666's Note - Alonso I’m taken aback by you’re post you make so many thought provoking points which all deserve merit and conversation. We could do about 15 podcasts on this post alone. Maybe that should be a future podcast/livestream and the question being ‘Salah or Gerrard?’ and we can have posters from the site involved. I’m liking the thought of that. The pandemic messed up our ascendency and who knows what could have been with a normal season last season and more silverware/records for Salah?

7.) 16 Aug 2021 02:55:37
Just reading from the posts above, the point that "Salah does not get enough respect" is already moot and answered because by simply being seen as equal (or less or more) than Gerrard, and being thoughtfully discussed, already tells you about the high regard he receives from LFC supporters. Being on the same discussion table as Gerrard is already a massive massive achievement, and deservedly so, in my opinion.

8.) 16 Aug 2021 03:50:28
Salah is a fine player bit I have to go with Gerrard . When he played for us we always seemed to be missing that vital key to challenge consistently (goalkeeper, defenders, manager all at various different times) . He carried the team and rose to the big occasion so often, I very much doubt Salah could've done that job under those circumstances . We are lucky to have Mo, but Stevie G is only bettered by God and the King for me.

{Ed0666's Note - very interesting observations mate

9.) 16 Aug 2021 03:51:43
VakPa, dude, you really don't like happy endings, do you. 😉.

10.) 16 Aug 2021 04:23:29
All I know is neither of them are as good as John Barnes. What a player he was.

11.) 16 Aug 2021 04:49:51
Alonso what a brilliant post. Great research, thanks. Also appreciate the special mention of Raybould, Liverpool’s top scorer in the 1899-1900 season bc I share his name I’m sure we must be related somehow!

12.) 16 Aug 2021 05:19:13
I’m sorry but goals cannot be used as a way of deciding between these two players in this debate, both players play different positions. Of course Salah has scored more goals than Gerrard, he plays a lot further forward.

13.) 16 Aug 2021 06:21:21
Simply put. No.

I don't think Salah would have been as good as he is now, without the talent he has by his side. Gerrard managed to look brilliant in both a world class, medicore and downright awful teams.

14.) 16 Aug 2021 06:49:11
Agree with HSF that Gerrard would be a dominant world-beater in any side whereas Salah excels partly because of the players he has around him.
Id even suggest that if we had Stevie G in this current side we would win the league every season. If we had Salah during Gerrards era would he have been much better than Torres or Suarez were?
For me, Gerrard shades it.

15.) 16 Aug 2021 06:53:19
I'm not sure they can be compared. Different positions and different people entirely. Plus I wouldn't include all those little awards like player of the season etc. cups is what counts imo. I love them both and both were/ are vital to the team.

16.) 16 Aug 2021 08:15:29
It seems that some have forgotten about a certain Mr K Dalglish.
Salah is a great forward, but Gerrard was a midfield phenom who could grab a game by the scruff of the neck and turn the tide of a game.
Gerrard all day for me over Salah, but even then he's behind Kenny.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is unfair to bring Dalglish into it. The rest are mere mortals, the King was above all that.}

17.) 16 Aug 2021 08:35:23
Gerrard all day. The only player I know of that could play pretty much any position on the pitch and still be the best player on it. Salah is amazing, but prime Gerrard in this team would elevate it greatly.

18.) 16 Aug 2021 09:35:14
Gerrard for now because he had a lot less to work alongside than salah does.
But salah will be top boy by the time he leaves the club,
Both irreplaceable.

Trent, Allison, VVD, Fabinho. we are watching some of the best to ever play for our club.

19.) 16 Aug 2021 12:09:00
Both will end up in our top handful of players ever, and i love Salah but its Gerrard for me. Like many have said he gave fans hope while playing in some atrocious sides, sides Salah wouldn't have stuck around to play in.

{Ed025's Note - too hard to compare for me JH as they are different era,s, gerrard carried a very poor side for many a year whereas salah is very good in a very good side, mind you at least mo does smile on the odd occasion...usually when hes conned the ref with a dive in the box.. :)

20.) 16 Aug 2021 11:59:56
Ed666. Loving the sound of the podcast/ live stream. Good debate to open as well as it’s not your standard like for like comparison. Also enjoyed reading other people’s take on it as some really interesting points were brought up for both players. Liking this could be an ongoing thing comparing players from different times and different positions.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree on all points mate
