Slot says Jota will be back in "weeks not months" with a shoulder muscle issue.
Honestly, he's our best finisher but made of glass, much like Sturridge and surely getting to the point whereby we move him on as he's missed 94 games since he joined and can't be relied on.
Thoughts? Keep him because of his quality when fit, or invest in someone more likely to get onto the pitch.

Get rid.

20 Jan 2025 16:52:29
Time to move him on, this is getting ridiculous tbh.

20 Jan 2025 16:55:18
And yet he still has more goals than Nunez despite always being injured… What does that tell you?

20 Jan 2025 16:56:50
No choice really, get rid.

20 Jan 2025 16:58:14
@ROme, I seem to remember a ton of fans (not so much on here) who LOVED parrotting the same old, "Availability is the best ability" schtick when it was time to get rid of Ox, Naby etc.

So my question to such people is: Does that statement also apply to you know, Diogo Jota?

Or does this narrative only apply to players they want rid at all costs?

20 Jan 2025 17:25:19
Definitely something fishy with this Jota injury and makes me think there is more to that original lung injury rumour.

Ideal opportunity for Darwin though to hopefully kick on.

20 Jan 2025 17:34:43
Not a fair comparison Oli, as when Jota is fit, he invariably contributes with plenty of goals. He makes us miss him when he's not available, whereas naby never contributed a thing in his time here, and ox was finished at the top level after his last major injury.

Given he's on a big wage, seems to be missing more and more games, and someone I'm sure will pay decent money for him, I think we should move him on, but it's fairly obvious why it's a tougher decision than the other players you mentioned.

20 Jan 2025 17:46:13
Jota needs to go. Nunez for his misgivings isn't injured all the time, just needs to learn how to put the ball in the net more frequently.

Oh and learn English. It's been 3 seasons now.

20 Jan 2025 17:48:12
Yeah he needs to be moved on, a real shame for the lad because he clearly has quality but he's hardly ever fit, imagine if he was? we'd of been laughing even more this season but unfortunately for him and for us he is indeed made of glass.

20 Jan 2025 17:59:01
Nobody’s shocked. Same players injured all the time.
He should be embarrassed by it, it’s pathetic really.
This is why you can’t go selling Nunez at a drop of a hat. If the club wants to sell him then he must be replaced straight away because we can’t rely on Jota.

20 Jan 2025 18:12:39
Sturridge had some muscle genetic thing running in family. Jota just doesn't sleep and recover properly by playing video games. Both are not the same.

20 Jan 2025 18:18:15
If Nunez' goal totals were higher, I wouldn't have a problem moving Jota on. But I don't think sitting Diaz in Jota's place is the solution. If a productive goalscorer can be found to replace Jota, then maybe. I wouldn't expect any massive improvement from either Diaz or Nunez, if Jota were to be sold. So then why are we doing it?

20 Jan 2025 18:39:46
Be careful Liverbird031 when your creeping around at night peering through Jota's windows.

{Ed001's Note - you don't need to look through his windows, he is playing online in international FIFA (or whatever it is called now) tournaments and just general ranking matches. They are open to all to view and regularly get posted online. He also has his own eSports team that he jets around supporting.}

20 Jan 2025 18:58:34
Yeah I’d sell if the club are confident they can replace him with someone better.
Far too many injuries to be relied on sadly.

20 Jan 2025 19:05:50
@Navy Keith "Wrong Again"

"and yet he still has more goals than Nunez despite always being injured. what does that tell you?

It tells me a load of "Barry White" and lies Navy Keith.

Darwin 24 premier league goals since he joined the club (22-25) .
Jota 22 premier league goals, since nunez joined the club (22-25).

. what does that tell you?

20 Jan 2025 19:55:26
Wind your neck in, you talk more sh*te than anyone on here.

This season, Jota has more goals than Nunez, despite missing lots through injury. That was my point. Which is not wrong, it’s correct.

20 Jan 2025 20:01:35
Sell Jota let Trent and Salah go. Get proven players around 23-26 years old and we boss the league for next few seasons.

20 Jan 2025 20:23:29
With regards to Jota and Darwin, I think it is about what a player contributes to what we are trying to achieve. I’ve not checked the figures posted by 007 but if correct it shows Jota is more clinical, however, Darwin is more robust and therefore plays more. I’m just not sure who would buy Jota from as due to his injury record.

20 Jan 2025 21:03:29
I think Jota is a sad case. Fantastic talent, genuinely great finishing, always gives his all on the pitch, were he to stay fit I believe he could generate Isak like numbers, but, he is blighted by injuries. Small and significant, I have no opinion on the fifa playing, once your not at work anything you do that doesn’t affect your work performance is your business and if he has an esports team that’s just a business. Loads of footballers have businesses so not sure why he’s singled out that for that. It’s a damn shame he is so injury prone because there’s a top class striker there if he could stay fit, but he can’t, so we should look to replace him unfortunately.

{Ed001's Note - if you read what you said, and you still can't figure out why they are being mentioned, perhaps you need to learn what effects performances. People just want to make excuses for a player who can't stay fit, and it is all his own fault.}

20 Jan 2025 21:40:44
Professional footballers need to look after themselves

I can’t believe the club aren’t trying to sell Jota if, off the pitch, he isn’t liking after himself in regards adequate rest and recovery.

20 Jan 2025 22:42:21
If he was on a contract that paid based on appearances he might take better care of himself.

21 Jan 2025 00:04:50
Professional footballers' job requires more than just turning up for trainings and matches. I used to play competitive sports too and my coach always emphasised to us that proper recovery is just as important, if not more. And if Jota's gaming affects his recovery and is a cause for his many injuries then yes, it is his fault and we should get rid. He's a highly paid professional athlete so there should be no excuses if he doesn't take care of himself.

21 Jan 2025 00:19:50
One can't stay fit and the other can't score.
Sell both. And Diaz. I'll give Gakpo another season though.

21 Jan 2025 08:04:10
Buy first sell later. First get a good replacement who can make the position his own, then decide who to move on.

21 Jan 2025 13:15:11
Rugby, I agree with you BUT Im just asking for people (who love Jota and want him kept) to also keep it consistent. For me if Jota got sold, I wouldn't frown about it cos he turns 29 next season and those injuries will only get worse and take longer to recover from.

Can't say that with Darwin who is always available for selection and most importantly, is 3 years younger with 3 years left on his deal after this season.
