Does anyone else see MAJOR parallels with this Wirtz stuff and the Macca / Caicado saga? We've just signed Frimpong for a half decent fee (remember Macca's price), and now we're supposed to be lining up a 'record deal" for Wirtz, just like with Caicado? Are we doing clubs like Brighton and Bayer favors by inflating their player prices, all in exchange for good deals? Would like to hear what everyone thinks!

No.
You're overthinking this and confusing timescales in RL with timescales on FIFA.
Most importantly everyone has moved on from Wirtz (in terms of other teams etc) as they know he wants us. It's a massive amount of money and there is no clause so negotiations take time.
Caicedo appeared out of nowhere and was gone (as a rumour) within 48-72 hours.
This is not that.

No - completely different people and circumstances.

Just feels like there's a camp of people who almost want the deal for Wirtz to fall through so they can be right about FSG or Hughes or that they're so scared to hope they're using made up scenarios to temper their own expectations.
So no, I don't think there's some conspiracy where we're purposely inflating the price of a club's player because we paid the release clause, which the selling club would have had to agree to, for another player.

I wondered why Lidl had run out of tin foil! Well now I know.

With caicedo we paid the fee and the player didn't want to come.
With wirtz the player wants to come but we are negotiating the fine details of the fee.
Could you please tell me how you managed to arrive at the conclusion that they are comparable cases?

Except Caicedo was a PR exercixe while Wirtz seems a genuine try.

@IronDan - I couldn’t agree more.
I think it’s party fear from some fans that it will fall through. And from others online it’s your standard **** stirring or trolling.
People are acting like negotiating a €125m+ deal is a walk in the park. Give them time!

Big deals for great players take time, the media age of constant micro re worded updates certainly doesn't help.
It will get done, im sure of it.

The only similarities to the Caicedo saga is that with Wirtz we would be Chelsea.
Chelsea had agreed terms with him and he had his mind set to go there before we even came in hence he wasn't wiling to change his mind.
With Wirtz that is the exact situation we are in now. The negotiations have been done, the players mind is made up and now it is just to agree a fee and structure of the payments as has been mentioned many many times on here.
Keep calm everyone and stop trying to find ways to upset yourself.

It’s a good point about getting the player to agree before the clubs.
Basically the opposite way to how we did it with Caicedo.
It is to be expected as this is a totally different recruitment team. Any parallels are completely coincidental.
03 Jun 2025 14:30:24
Nah, Percymon. No similarities at all. The problem here is that people allow themselves to be scared about things that on the face of it look similar whereas if they delve into the details, there are NO similarities at all.
Macca wanted to play for us. Caicedo didn't and he was always going to go to Chelsea provided Chelsea could pay the fee. Here, Wirtz rejected both Bayern and City openly and picked us cos he was impressed with our presentation and project, something that Caicedo never did. All we are doing is what ALL clubs do in this scenario as in, negotiate a fee. Again, if people want to get scared of things then, that's on them. After all, fear is a choice.

Inflating a fee could lead to buyers pulling out and unsettling the player.
What if Wirtz wants to move on but there are no buyers because BL and Liverpool have been using him for their own gains? We've already seen City move on.
03 Jun 2025 15:01:00
How do you get o club to stage a transfer? Can you imagine the call hi it’s Edward’s from Liverpool can we pretend to buy wirtz? No we don’t want him as we can’t afford him, it’s just to keep the fsg out brigade happy.
03 Jun 2025 15:26:44
No - there was never a suggestion Caicedo wanted to come.
We can’t inflate a fee when Bayer have stated what they want.
03 Jun 2025 15:50:25
You're all right guys. I'm overthinking things! PTSD, and all that! But, if someone else comes in at the "asking price" then it would feel like a gazumping all over again! Plus, Im not on speaking terms with Wirtz so can't say for fact that he actually favours a move to LFC! I'll chuck out the tin foil hat and go and have a nice lie down.
03 Jun 2025 16:03:51
I think I remember Ed002 said the offer for Caicedo was unauthorised. I presume the offer was made by Klopp.
03 Jun 2025 16:25:45
Plus they’re both male AND both footballers!
03 Jun 2025 17:31:57
It's funny how often people think football transfers are an elaborate scheme to manipulate other clubs.
They're largely just two parties negotiating until they reach an agreement without any thought given to what another club might be doing.
