Anyone else see Tyler Morton's comments essentially calling out Slot horrific man management. Basically said it wasn't due to ability why he got nowhere near the first team last season but due to a lack of trust.

Seeing him do so well albeit in Ligue 1 shows perhaps we could have used him multiple times last season as cover to rotate with Gravenberch rather than run him into the ground.

11 Feb 2026 09:01:56
Did he mention why Jurgen didn't pick him?

11 Feb 2026 09:15:01
I believe the lack of trust part, OP.

WDW, Klopp did pick Morton a few times when we were battling injuries in the 21/ 22 season, one of the 43 youngsters Klopp gave their debuts to in his time here. When we got players back, Morton went back to the reserves, which is how the process works.

Also had Klopp not picked Morton, many of us would not have known who he was.

11 Feb 2026 09:16:06
He didn't essentially call out anything. He just said how he felt.

Were you on here clamouring for Morton to stay and play regularly? I think we have to be really careful when we revise history but also acknowledge that not every player is going to thrive in this environment and that isn't 100% down to the manager.

11 Feb 2026 09:28:11
TM plays in Ligue 1 for a reason.

11 Feb 2026 09:39:24
I think it's possibly because he was mostly out on loan when Klopp was our manager.

11 Feb 2026 09:44:17
WDW I would say Klopp never really played him in his last two seasons because he was on loan playing 87 games in two season.
But am sure having had them two successful seasons he would have had more of a chance under Klopp.

You only have to look at how poor Gakpo has been and he has hardly used young Rio who can't been any worse even if he did nothing.

11 Feb 2026 10:02:24
We won the league.

11 Feb 2026 10:42:48
SG, Jacquet plys his trade in Ligue 1& as did Ekitike.

11 Feb 2026 10:47:38
He should have replaced endo as our utility midfielder.

11 Feb 2026 11:42:52
Reiterating what has already been said, Morton always showed up when he played for us. Was always commended for his overall loan performances. Sometimes timing is key. Bajcetic was right place, right time. Morton was not.

Sometimes players don't work out, sometimes they are unlucky. Doesn't have to be rose-tinted revisionism but also doesn't necessarily make them a bad player or a poor solution.

If Ligue 1 is so bad, we should send back Jacquet and Ekitike.

Can any of the Ed's confirm that Rome1977 is not Slot trolling the site.
Always seems there to back him up no matter how poor we are.

{Ed025's Note - just because he has different view does not make him a Troll Grino, he seems to think the players are complicit in this mess and i think he has a point mate..

11 Feb 2026 12:48:37
That was tongue in cheek comment ed025 I know he is not Slot Ed Slots to busy flying back to Holland to comment on here.

{Ed025's Note - good point Grino.. :)

Morton getting a push now.

Football is a funny old game. If it was down to posters and their favourites over the years then our starting line up tonight would be

Kelleher, Ramsay, Phillips, Gomez, Chambers, Endo, Jones (c), Morton, Chiesa, Nunez and Rio.

11 Feb 2026 13:27:22
Morton is a decent young player, sometimes they have to leave to find themselves, he is doing very well in the French league, so it was a great opportunity for him to show what he can do without the pressure of being at a top club.

11 Feb 2026 14:13:54
SG. Is that reason because the current CL champions are from the farm. I mean Ligue 1?

11 Feb 2026 14:41:54
I think you have to take into account that we only see snippets of these players in preseason and Carabau cup games generally so we don't really know how good they are.

The manager sees them every day and gets updated from his coaches and the youth coaches regularly as to how they are progressing and whether they are ready to make the step up physically, mentally and technically.

They just have so much more information than we will ever have to make that call.

Rio for example is a child. There are not many players who make their debuts at 16 and are regulars at 17. He's getting experience of being in and around the first team and getting minutes here and there. In the long run that will serve him better than coming into the team regularly and getting hammered for every mistake he makes. Which there will be plenty.

11 Feb 2026 14:52:23
@JLC; They're obviously the standout team, but that wouldn't be hard in L1. The remainder don't fare too well in Europe. And @ Starseeker: Jaquet is leaving L1 for the PL. TM left the PL for L1. There's a difference! Onwards to Sunderland we roll!

11 Feb 2026 16:22:05
If the coach does not play a young player in the first team when the player is knocking on the door you do not know how good he is training and playing are different. Slot does not want to trust young players Rio is only in the squad because Slott has been told to put Rio in by the suits.
Morton was over looked after he tackled i think it was a Crystal palace player and he broke his leg by Klopp and the Slott and was sent out on loan.
