There's a few rumours that haven't gained traction yet in mainstream media outlets, that Mac Allister has put a really strong case forward to Slot and Hughes asking them to consider Lautaru Martinez as a signing this summer. He's the Inter Milan CF/ captain, and he has scored 151 goals and registered 50 assists in 331 games.
Could this be Akira and Carra's mystery striker?

He's 28 this year and there's no way we spend a huge amount on him imo. The model of the club I suspect has reverted back to players under 26 as pointed out by the former data analyst.

Also not sure if everyone’s seen. But Wirtz latest Instagram story basically stating he isn’t trying to grab the number 10 shirt. Saying he’s respectful to the player who already owns this! Shows more evidence of the nailed on talks with LFC and it’s progressing. Nice touch from him too.

27 (turning 28) isn't old in modern football terms though, especially with regards to strikers. The best strikers in Europe right now in my opinion are Kane and Lewandowski and they're both well into their 30's. Benzema and Suarez went to about 35 before going to a retirement league. Ronaldo went to 38 before moving to a retirement league. Chris Wood is a run of the mill Premier League striker and he's just had his best season ever scoring 20 goals at 33 years old. Griezmann, Giroud, Ibrahimovic etc. The list goes on and on of strikers who thrived/ are thriving into their 30's. Martinez is literally about to come into his prime years, so I'd be well up for giving him a 5 year contract to spend those years at Liverpool. Bit too much is made of players being in their late 20's in think.
Anyway, this is just a rumours I've read online that I thought I'd pass on! Take it with a pinch of salt.

I would hope that Slot, Hughes and Co would know a lot about Martinez anyway. They might have a word with McAllister if there was any interest but there'd have to be some interest, initially.
I have no idea if he would be of interest to us because I don't think he'd be seen as good value. If we sold Nunez, Jota and Diaz then he might be.

I think it makes sense signing a more experienced player, given that basically our whole starting 11 next year will be under 25/ 26 barring vvd, salah and Alisson. If the price is decent, I don’t see it being implausible.

Hughes is well connected in Italy, and Martinez is world class.
Id opt for Martinez over Leao and Osimhen personally - but he's going to cost as much is Isak.
This is where Fede, Nunez and Jota come in, who must be worth 140m between them, plus 400k p/ w.

I would love to have him, but he is on big wages after holding out for a pay rise at inter and will absolutely ask for more than that at any club he moves to (he only signed a new contract next year), that is if he would even leave the club he loves and is captain at. Stranger things have happened though, and inter need money to rebuild their ageing team, the owners don't spend big and would not finance a rebuild without selling some assets. the cl final this year was the last hurrah before blowing it up.
