Slot was considered gone from late last year.
It was a two way thing and mutual agreement where he wasn't happy with the arrangement and the club were open to change.
Their number one target for manager then soon became available, Alonso.
Talks had been going well with Xabi, expectation was he will become the next Liverpool manager come the summer.
Talks have come to a stop which was not expected, LFC have and are considering other targets but won't make a knee jerk decision.
If they can't find the right solution Slot will happily stay but ideally would like to leave us and ideally we want him replaced.
I can't right now say who will be the head coach next season now and will await the end of season review by the club.
I think this is the issue guys and a great example of how football operates.
When you're expected to give blow by blow updates and things change like the wind, people become disgruntled then label myself and other contributors as liars.
Understand that the situation is complicated at best, I will do my best to offer what I know, when I hear it but PLEASE don't be surprised to see things to further change again.
Ta.

Thanks Carra, appreciate all you do for the community.
05 May 2026 09:41:49
Your updates are always very much appreciated, Carra, thank you for always taking the time to post.
05 May 2026 09:42:20
Thanks, Carra. Do we have any idea why talks with Alonso broke down?
05 May 2026 09:44:04
Cheers Carra, hopefully it's all cleared up sooner rather than later.
05 May 2026 09:47:26
I have said all along, FSG will wait for the end of the season to review, like they always have.
05 May 2026 09:48:42
Thanks, Carra. Are you able to share any insight as to why Alonso talks have stopped?
05 May 2026 09:53:22
Much appreciated, Carra. **** the begrudgers!!
05 May 2026 09:53:45
Thanks, Carra, appreciated as always.
People have the habit of "shooting the messenger". As you say, things change and people need to understand this.
05 May 2026 09:54:38
Thanks, Carra - very much appreciated.
If Slot wants to leave, why would he be happy to stay beyond the summer?
With the likes of Iraola and Alonso available, and Hoeness keen on joining, surely they will replace Slot?
From a club perspective, we simply cannot have a manager that isn't invested in the job.
05 May 2026 09:57:14
Thanks, Carra. The situation has obviously changed. There are too many big clubs looking for a good manager, LFC, Chelsea, Man United & potentially City. I think his head has been turned.
05 May 2026 10:11:38
Alonso always seemed to suggest his priority would be Liverpool. My guess would be around Edwards and/or Hughes, as seems to be the issue with most things at the moment. An inept scout and data analyst has ended up in the highest position outside of the owners, recipe for disaster.
05 May 2026 10:13:14
Top man Carra, cheers.
Please understand that 99% of us are very grateful on here.
Focus on us rather than the inevitable s**** talkers!
05 May 2026 10:13:47
Your posts are a major addition to the fun of this site, Carra. Never stop, mate.
05 May 2026 10:19:12
We were, apparently, a club who identified transfer targets a couple of windows in advance.
Now, we have a caretaker manager, cannot get the next manager sorted, and appear to be a right shambles behind the scenes.
This cannot be right and needs to be sorted out.
How has it come to this?
05 May 2026 10:21:35
Here here, SG.
Thanks a million, Carra.
05 May 2026 10:22:56
Cheers, Carra.
Given Hughes is flirting with Saudi and Edwards isn't getting his second club anytime soon, possibly ever, I hope Mike Gordon is getting more involved in choosing the next coach.
05 May 2026 10:28:42
Thanks, Carra, for the update.
Sounds like it will be mutual separation if we find the right manager at the end of the season or Slot sees out his contract and that gives us a year to find the right manager.
What happens with Hughes and Edwards? Sounds like Hughes is possibly out this summer. And Hughes next summer, at the end of his contract.
Surely we would want the new manager to be aligned to the new structure in terms of vision, philosophy, tactics, players etc.
It is important to get this correct, otherwise we could face the same problem Man Utd has had for the last 10 to 15 years.
Would love to know your thoughts?
05 May 2026 10:30:19
Appreciate the info ta la.
05 May 2026 10:32:50
Very well put, @Carra.
Your insights, along with the likes of @Fields and @Robbo, are always appreciated.
Obviously, in business things can, and often do, change very, very quickly. Most of us understand that and, equally, most are just glad to get the 'current picture', fully aware that the picture may change very quickly.
The insights are appreciated and are taken for what they are now, not as a stick to beat you up if and when things change.
05 May 2026 10:34:23
Must've been transfer policy. Sounds like it.
05 May 2026 10:37:56
Your updates are very much appreciated, mate. Thank you.
05 May 2026 10:38:15
I fully appreciate your updates and totally understand things change all the time. I'm 100% behind any thing you've posted, so thank you.
05 May 2026 10:47:54
And there we go... a feel good Carra update. ?
05 May 2026 10:48:10
Anyone with a brain should know things change. Your information is enjoyed by a wide majority of us on here, and it's great to hear what's going on.
Keep on giving us the info, and, as always.
Cheers Carra.
05 May 2026 10:49:50
Carra,
I appreciate your messages so much and genuinely get excited when I see you, Thefields, Vg (sorry if I missed others) signature at the bottom.
Please keep 'em coming!
05 May 2026 10:57:54
Thanks Carra, I think people are just getting disgruntled as you have different camps.
The Pro Slot ones who worship this tool, and will not have any talk of him leaving at all. If Slot now stays, the ITKs get mud thrown at them for being "wrong" in their opinion.
The Anti Slot ones who want him gone at all costs. If things change, it's carnage and mud gets thrown around as the ITKs, in their opinion, also got "it wrong" in their opinion.
Then you get the middle men like me, who don't care whether he stays or goes, but feel it's best for him to leave, but can't understand how our directors can not see what we all see, that results are crap and have been for a long time.
I feel it's all Ego from Hughes and Edwards, as if they let Slot go then it's a case of them getting it wrong, hence all the mixed messages from the ITKs as no one actually truly knows 100% what's going to happen, you can only pass on the info shared with you which may or may not be 100% correct as things change quickly.
It's always appreciated what you share, Carra, as you clearly know more than most what's going on. By the sounds of things Slot wants out, we want him out, we just need to swallow our pride and realise there are better options, it's convincing that better options that we are not the sh*t show that we look like currently from the outside looking in and finding someone to accept the structure of the club and how transfers will work.
05 May 2026 11:18:50
Thanks Carrra,
Is there a chance the talks with Xabi can be reignited or are the differences causing the halt non-negotiable?
05 May 2026 11:19:32
Kloppofthenortheast, none of us know what's going on, really. There are desperate attempts by people to find an excuse for the problem, but as per usual everyone is blamed, when ultimately it comes down to the manager and players. After winning the league, I didn't read anything from anyone doubting the manager, or doubting the impending transfers; now, all of a sudden the very same contradict themselves.
The owners and their team brought more success with Slot, and whereas something has gone wrong, we must respect that their opinion reflected that of what the fans were thinking after the league success, so they're not to blame.
Changes will be made, and it's still early, yet it would be nice to see a bit of patience from posters, as it's boring now. They went about the appointments of Klopp and Slot in a professional manner, and as much as the appointment of Slot may have backfired, ultimately they've brought in success, regardless, therefore I'm quite content that they'll find a suitable successor.
05 May 2026 11:21:47
The players clearly just aren't playing for him, they have lost their drive and certainly their fitness. If the fans can see it clear as day, then the people above him have to, or they need to go. We have lost so much identity in one season, the rot has to stop and he has to be relieved of his duties.
05 May 2026 11:27:26
Thanks, Carra. Always look forward to your posts and understand how fluid these things are.
05 May 2026 11:31:46
The Lid,
That's my point, the ITKs are being given info all be it either correct, incorrect or misinformation as we know that Hughes and Edwards want control of the media and the information getting out there.
Their egos can not take a battering that they will get if and when Slot goes. Whether he stays on for another year, he will show there is no progression, and the club will be forced, one way or another, to act.
However, you seem to make reference that you trust Edwards and Hughes to bring success as Slot won the league.
I disagree. They have cost us success this season. Slot should have gone in Nov when we went through that disgraceful run. Things have not improved since, and we are constantly losing, are out of all the cups, and are "changing the goalposts", so to speak, that 5th place was acceptable for a season of "transition".
It's all just nonsense and ego, they won't admit they got it wrong.
Winning the PL last season was great, but it was due to Klopp's influence lingering. Once Slot got his way, we failed and will continue to fail unless we have strong leadership who will make decisions based on results and not BS stats.
The only way we will get success is moving those two on, along with Slot, and not having someone in a position of power that they are not good at hiring their mate who is also incompetent.
05 May 2026 11:32:23
Thanks, Carra
Seems as though it won't be Xabi then, doubt they would go so far in convo, only to break it off and then come back to him.
05 May 2026 11:33:16
Thanks, as always, Carra.
Much appreciated.
05 May 2026 11:46:12
Thanks, Carra. It certainly adds up what you are saying. The run toward the end of the year was when it turned quite rapidly in a lot of people's eyes.
I guess at this point the best thing to do is wait and see. There is potential movement with Hughes, Slot and then onto the coaching staff and then final the playing staff.
The only thing I would say is there has been plenty of time to come to some sort of reasonable conclusion in that time frame.
However, we will wait and see. The season is almost over.
05 May 2026 12:03:19
Time to move for Hoeness then. Better we part ways and bring someone in hungry to take us over, and Hoeness fits the bill for me. Very similar style to Klopp, so very happy with him taking over.
05 May 2026 12:28:54
Cheers, Carra... Seems like it's an ever changing situation!?
Probably best that we all stop asking you guys for answers right now, as it does seem to change from one week to the next, and it really isn't fair that you guys get the brunt of abuse when things do change.
I'm not asking about it anymore, I'm just going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season... I suggest to all others to do the same.
05 May 2026 12:34:46
Cheers, Carra. We should all appreciate the information given at the time, knowing situations can be fluid.
05 May 2026 12:35:08
I know it's been asked above, Carra, but do you see this as the end of Alonso and the club's interest, or do you see a chance of talks being renewed?
05 May 2026 12:42:26
Appreciate your input as always, Carra.
Thank you, and keep them coming, please. Ignore any of the negative replies. As you say, only passing on what you know. Which is all we can ask, and we understand things change fast in football.
05 May 2026 12:47:44
Carra, always appreciate any info you share plus everyone else. Please keep it coming when you can. ?
05 May 2026 12:49:02
We shouldn't have to stop asking for any update though. People need to stop reacting like bellends because they don't hear what they want. Love hearing from any of the itk, football changes constantly, accept it and all will be good.
05 May 2026 12:50:59
Thanks, Carra, highly appreciated,
Will support again whenever you post again in the future.
05 May 2026 13:10:47
Slot staying is the worst possible scenario so find an alternative.
05 May 2026 13:21:21
Thanks, Carra 99% of us respect you and understand things change. Please keep the updates coming.
05 May 2026 13:58:08
Guess who's wrestled control of the narrative back.
The leaks were coming from a few individuals. At this level of business, leaks can cost millions, or potentially even billions.
What has just gone on was crisis management of sorts.
Normal service to be resumed once this season is over.
Some of the leaks were coming from youth team contacts, others via a player, and then the manager change got out of the bag due to Alonso's people getting a bit too keen too quickly.
Reputations need propping up. Phase 2 of the rebuild will be even more interesting than phase 1.
05 May 2026 14:04:36
Thanks, Carra. Keep the updates coming, mate, they are always appreciated by most of the people who come on here.
05 May 2026 14:09:05
Much appreciated Carra, thanks.
05 May 2026 15:14:43
@FatSpanishWaiter, you reckon the stuff about Xabi's assistant being in regular contact with Wirtz was true?
Seems to me, reading between the lines, the club wanted/want to secure UCL qualification and avoid a storm/even more noise around Slot leaving that might impact us getting it.
Once that's secure, I reckon we will see more aligned to the actual truth in the media, but for now it's all part of the dance.
Mickey E has a long way to go and needs to step up his PR game if he wants to be like his idol Perez.
Ken.
05 May 2026 15:21:02
Thanks, Carra, it's definitely Iraola for me,
Can't take another season with Slot in charge.
The senior players don't seem to be given their all.
05 May 2026 15:45:43
WTF. How does a club the size of Liverpool end up with a manager who doesn't want the job? It's a mess this.
05 May 2026 16:04:21
Thanks as always Carra, I guess with us now limping into the Champions League (touch wood!) I guess it makes sense to look at all options. Obviously, that is unless we circle back to preferring Alonso, and by then he's gone elsewhere.
05 May 2026 16:28:10
Cheers, Carra.
The club is a joke though.
05 May 2026 16:35:49
Just seen a comment from Joyce in the Times; Slot will add people to the backroom staff if he's staying? That's a change in communication from Joyce.
05 May 2026 17:04:42
Thanks Carra, always appreciated. Hopefully we find a manager who fits the bill because any more of this football and we'll be in serious trouble next year.
Finding a manager when your rivals are looking too will not be easy though, hopefully we can bag Iraola, guessing Alonso wants full control has Klopp did...
won't happen with Edwards back at the club. Managers should have full control for me, limits the excuses... Like the coach saying, well I didn't want to sign such a body.
05 May 2026 18:10:18
Late to the party, but thanks, Carra. I always appreciate your valuable contributions to the forum. Glad you ignore the naysayers, I think they are far outweighed by the majority who look forward and appreciate your posts.
05 May 2026 18:44:28
Nice one, Carra, mate.
06 May 2026 06:58:18
Thanks, Carra.
I think if/when we secure CL for next year, we could start to hear more about Slot's future.
