Literally been in Liverpool today visiting a client for work. (Not football related work). And a lot of people, especially around Concert Square where we had a few cheeky ones, were all saying Trent back to Liverpool. Anyone know of any truth in this.

I could see him personally wanting to com back even if he does not admit it with the signing of Dumfries knocking him further down the pecking order.

And him behind Diomande with his pace could be TAA & Salah take 2...

04 Jun 2026 16:49:05
No chance.

04 Jun 2026 16:50:29
He can sulk on the Madrid bench. He made his bed, he's gotta lie in it.

04 Jun 2026 16:57:20
He who is without sin etc etc... I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

04 Jun 2026 16:58:38
Going to cost Madrid 20 million to send him back.

04 Jun 2026 17:05:30
He was unbelievable for Jurgan but I don't think he suits our new manager.

04 Jun 2026 17:10:44
These rumours have been doing the rounds ever since he left. It's not happening. The lad's a lot more arrogant than he lets on; he's not scurrying back with his tail between his legs.

04 Jun 2026 17:13:22
Not happening.

04 Jun 2026 17:17:55
Anyone who doesn't want Trent back is so bitter they should be supporting Everton. They are also clueless about Liverpool, despite having watched them for years. Losing Trent was one of the biggest factors for the poor form last season. The whole team was affected, mostly Salah, who missed the long pass that got the ball to him early before the opposition had time to regain their shape.

A lot of the turgid passing around at the back was because, apart from VVD with the diagonal out to Salah, nobody else could beat the press with a quick accurate ball out to midfield. If Hughes and Edwards get the other recruitment right, I would go as far as to say that with Trent we would win the league. I'm sure Iraola would love him back and Trent would suit his system perfectly.

04 Jun 2026 17:24:01
He can't come back just yet... Has a Ballon d'Or to win over there...

04 Jun 2026 17:29:40
Tbh a lot of the turgid passing around the back was due to the coach. Trent wouldn't have been allowed to play to his strengths last season, Salah wouldn't have got any early balls and if he did he would have been on his own.

04 Jun 2026 17:29:45
I'm not bitter. I just think f*** him. He didn't give a toss about us. No effort in games (Utd springs to mind). Nah, no way back, like if your bird jumps into bed with another fella, no use to us now he's soiled.

04 Jun 2026 17:25:53
KemlynRoad .And you call other supporters clueless!

04 Jun 2026 17:32:42
Man chases riches and accepts a new job after years of service at his previous one - hardly a first or out of the ordinary, although I understand why our tribalism causes us to be unhappy about how he went about it.

He's still the best RB on the planet though, in the right team.

04 Jun 2026 17:34:05
Get a grip, Kemlyn!! Lad was flat out learning Spanish; he couldn't have got out of LFC fast enough! He sold his soul, and his status as a LFC legend went in smoke with the lad!
Best of look to him where ever he ends, but I, for one of many, never want him in LFC red again!!

04 Jun 2026 17:52:18
Strongly biased here, as McManaman and Trent were two of my favourite players to watch. I don't understand why players who cost us nothing have a duty to get us a transfer fee?

McManaman was perhaps more justified in doing an 'Bosman' after Houllier moved out Roy Evans, fell out with Fowler, and tried to shift Macca to Barcelona without consulting him.

Isn't Mo's behaviour worse? Was given a two year contract, then threw his toys out of the pram and demanded a free transfer after being benched for just 3 games.

I reckon Klopp would have advised against giving Mo that extension - a storm was going to come once he was no longer first choice. It's why Klopp let Mane go.

These guys have such short careers, I can't blame Trent for wanting to test himself overseas after winning every single cup with us. I don't think that this makes him any more arrogant than any of the alphas who are top level players.

It takes a certain kind of ego to make it to the top of any sport. I would take Trent back in a heartbeat.

04 Jun 2026 17:58:14
KemlynRoad, any idea how many assists Trent provided for Salah? 13, mate. That's not per season, that's over 9 years, total. Tell me again how Salah's not scoring because Trent's gone. Did somebody say clueless?

04 Jun 2026 18:12:53
I personally don't want him back for football and financial reasons. He didn't kill anyone, so I'm over him winding down his contract and stringing the fans along. But he's too inconsistent, defensively poor, and old for his transfer fee and salary. Avoid.

04 Jun 2026 18:17:05
If this were true, how would it work? Wouldn't we have to pay Real a fortune?

04 Jun 2026 18:18:51
Trent's head has got far too big for our club, if he had never played for us we wouldn't want him anywhere near us.
He thinks he does not have to defend and just walks around like he is the greatest player since Pele.
If we changed his attitude, worked hard, I would have him back in a heartbeat, but the player he is, no thanks.

Shankly would have dragged him out by his hair, and not let him back in, total opposite of what this club stands for.
What a shame for a child that grew up loving this club, that he went so far away, but I guess that's the world today.

04 Jun 2026 18:30:43
Trent didn't care about us when he left, in return I don't care about him now he has.

04 Jun 2026 19:11:44
More chance of Slot returning than Trent!

04 Jun 2026 19:56:40
A lot of replies to answer here. Can't do them all, but will try to cover some points. Yes, he left. I didn't like it, but have any of you not made a mistake? Rush left and came back. I called you bitters, because you just can't let anything go, even if it cuts off your nose to spite your face. A bit like Reform voters who will vote to give up their free healthcare and human rights, in exchange for being allowed to be racist. They don't get the better of the deal, but they don't care. If Trent helps Liverpool to win the Premier or Champions League, I don't care if he left and came back.

ChewySuarez7, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you just made a mistake. That sounds better than saying you don't know what you're talking about. You said Trent only gave Salah 13 assists. Not bad for a right back who plays on the same side of the pitch, but that's not what I said.

If Trent hits a long ball and puts Salah free on the right, and Salah crosses it for someone else to score, does Trent get that assist? No, but it was the key pass in the move. First game I watched this season was the pre-season friendly at Preston. I was behind the goal and watched Salah make countless runs in behind then stop, because the ball never came. I said to my son next to me that Salah would have a bad season because his service would be restricted, but I didn't realise how bad it would be.

For the record, I don't think Liverpool will bring him back, because they won't pay a fee for someone they only got 8 million for. But whoever they sign, they won't fit the system better than Trent. Bradley and Frimpong combined are not as good.

04 Jun 2026 20:00:33
As far as I remember macca never said he wasn't any where signing a contract, so can't tar him with that brush unlike Owen, Trent and I oh
I might be wrong, ed1 will know

04 Jun 2026 20:01:22
Don't give a monkeys what you think Kemlyn. Virtue signalling at best. You're welcome to write your opinion on supporters who don't want the cretin back on a bit of 24 grit sandpaper, roll it up and stick as far where the sun doesn't shine as you can. I've an extremely low opinion of Arnold and his family (particularly his cretinous brothers and his cousin who made the "victim" slur of which no apology was forthcoming), he gave it all that trite nonsense about "it means more" only to then say it was always his dream to play for Real Madrid after spending two years learning Spanish, he strung the club along for two years instead of being honest, he mocked us as supporters by giving us the "shhhh" gesture then there was that whole vulgar "summer of 66" nonsense.

No, he can stay in Madrid. Rubbish defender with an above average right foot and that's being generous, his performances in his last season were unforgivably poor on the whole (particularly against Man United, that's one of the worst displays by a defender in a Liverpool shirt I've ever seen, and I've seen Piechnik, Kvarme and Konchesky), the only good thing is that the clown show defending has continued at Madrid, good luck winning that Balon D'or. I don't want to hear comparisons with Ian Rush as there are none. He's as bad as Michael Owen. Anyone thinking it's a good use of valuable resources bringing back a washed up soon to be 28 year old not very good right back needs their heads testing.

04 Jun 2026 21:20:19
Viktor,
I knew you'd bring up Michael Owen. That proves my point. Anything that you perceive hurts your feelings, and there's no going back. Michael Owen wanted to come back. He asked Gerrard and Carragher to plead his case. Liverpool didn't want him back, which is fair enough. But he was left with two choices, Manchester United or Hull City. Who would you take for the probable final move of your career if it were you? So he chose Man Utd, and all the 'supporters' who can't accept someone doing something that doesn't fit in with their childish way of thinking will never forgive him for evermore.

Grow up. I can accept you don't want Trent back for football reasons, but not because a professional left one job for another and you almost perceive it as a personal rejection.

04 Jun 2026 21:22:04
Ballon D'Or? Balloon head, that's what he is!

04 Jun 2026 21:29:38
I enjoy your posts, VV, however, imo TAA was a fantastic football player for LFC. I don't know anything about the man or his family past that fact. Nor do I really care. An above average right boot is a slight to what he produced on the pitch for us during those blissful years. I'd have him back in the morrow.

04 Jun 2026 21:42:45
Kemlyn, I (probably every Scouse red) would choose rabies over Utd.

04 Jun 2026 23:54:04
Great on the transition and attack, but always suspect in defence, and now with his confidence completely shot. Not at all what we need.

I think it's time for us to make the most of this transition and bring some solidity to our defence with a solid RB, not another defensive liability.

Need to move on from the romanticism of Trent.

05 Jun 2026 04:59:24
Maybe we need to move away from the villification of Trent too. Both Klopp and Slot have come out and said that him not tracking back was on their instruction, not him getting a big head and refusing to track back. In his earlier years, he was decent at defending and would track back but all it took was a throwaway comment from a poor England manager to turn the entire fanbase against him.

We also weren't sure what the full story was behind him leaving us, whether it was him stringing us along or the ineptitude of the backroom staff.

But we have let our perception turn into facts and are refusing to listen to any other alternatives.

He was a great RB for us and was a key player for all that we won under Klopp and also for the PL title last season. He still holds the record for most assists from RB and will likely retain that for some time to come. To say that he was a "below average RB with an above average right foot" is underselling him imo and is more rooted in emotions than in fact.
