More rumours about Kelleher potentially leaving in the summer Who are good replacements? Only really seen Zieler linked who’s home grown so makes sense. Would Grabara be an option to return? Seems to have done well at Copenhagen. Home grown and club developed.

Kelleher so natural playing out from the back. One of the most comfortable keepers I’ve seen on the ball - like he’s got ice running through his veins. I’d happily keep him but he’s obviously got his career to consider.

Pitaluga was hand picked/ recommended by Allison to be signed by the club so I think we will see what he has first before we look elsewhere, IMO.

Sell Allison and promote Kelleher?

4.) 18 Jan 2023

He should be the first choice keeper now and in the future, the first clean sheet in eight games last night deserves to keep his place brings a calmness and steadiness to the defence catches instead of punching, good goalkeepers save penalties he has a higher ratio than becker who is vastly over rated and over priced.

Kelleher will only improve with a consistent run of games, we can't hear because of crowd noise but is he organising the defence better sure seems to be, m every time he steps in he's as solid as a Rock. He would not give me any concerns as the rightful first choice keeper every week, he let's his gloves do his talking.

If FSG are not going to sell the club, I really think that we need to start realising some more of our assets.

That means looking at Salah, VVD and Alisson and making some tough decisions, as these are our most saleable assets.

The former two are showing signs of decline. VVD was excused for having one eye on the World Cup but it didn’t appear to have resolved upon his return, then he got injured. Salah hasn’t been right since AFCON.

Both should be up for consideration if a suitable bid comes in.

Now for Alisson, who is in my mind the best GK in the world and has been for at least two/ three years now. However, he is 30 years old and contracted until 2027. As much as I hate to say it, now is the perfect time to sell him.

Kelleher is a more than able replacement and he is 24 and already our player. His handling is assured, he has nerves of steel and I think his distribution is as good, if not better, than Alisson’s. He takes less risks with the ball at his feet and the only part of his game that is not up to Alisson’s level is 1v1.

Do we take the risk of Alisson being 34 and out of contract and then paying a ton of money for a new keeper because Kelleher is no longer at the club or having Kelleher for at least the next 6 years and the cash realised from the sale of Alisson?

I am not including Pitaluga because there is no evidence he is anywhere near the level required.

6.) 18 Jan 2023

BTW, Pitaluga will count as HG too once he is over 21.

Be very sad to see Kelleher leave but would wish him well. The lad is as calm a goalkeeper as I’ve seen.

8.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 15:14:46
Surely 007, you are joking. Apart from the last two-three games, Alisson has been phenomenal this season.

9.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 15:21:40
Kelleher is a great keeper who has unfortunately been with us at a time when we have one of our best ever keepers in the No 1 role.

I said a while back that I expect him to leave as he deserves 1st team football and Alisson still has at least 5 seasons in him.

Pitaluga is the next one in line, and aged only 20 he has time on his side.

I expect us to either extend Adrian or buy/ sign a cheap older keeper - Rob-Robert Ziegler was linked a while back. This keeper and Pitaluga would then cover 2/ 3 keeper. I hope and expect Pitaluga to take over properly as our No2 within 12-18 months if his development continues as it has been.

We give kelleher a Premier league loan for a lesser team who try play out from the back and after a year or 2 on loan allisson be older and it could go very well for us.

12.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 16:05:54
Sell Alisson?
No chance.

13.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 16:23:26
Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world and probably will be for at least another 5 years. Kelleher is good enough to start for most Premier League teams, including Chelsea and Spurs. Let the lad move on for the good of his own career and make sure we get a decent fee. Good luck to him.

14.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 16:36:13
And people complain about Klopp being too loyal to players. You couldn’t make it up.

The way Alisson plays, I do not believe he has 5 years left at the top. He already picks up jiggly injuries.

Glad it is not my decision to make but we will be kicking ourselves if Kelleher goes on to be World No1 and Alisson does a Fabinho. Equally Kelleher could turn out to be a disaster and Alisson is a world beater still at 37. Ifs and buts butter no parsnips ….

15.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 16:39:36
Spot on, Rigsby. I literally stopped reading when 007 said that Allison should be sold cos our first clean sheet in 8 games came when Kelleher played. Has someone told him that were it not for AB1, we would be 14th in the table cos the guy has been phenomenal all season long? The bonkers logic some people will use to justify such incoherent takes beggars belief. Selling Allisson? Now, I've really heard everything.

Look, I love Kellerher to death and one of the reasons he is this good cos well, he trains with the best GK Brazil has ever produced who by the way along with Kellerher, is being/ was coached by the guy whose position AB1 took over as the best Brazilian GK in the legendary Claudio Taffarel at the AXA facility. I think he should be let go to fulfil his immense potential and have a buy back/ first refusal on him. That would the move to make.

16.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 16:59:24
Why not have your cake and eat it?

Ali is 30 and good for a few years.

Tie Kelleher to a long term deal and make it clear he’s the future. Ship him off for a season or two to play regularly. That’s what he wants and we want him for the future.

Promote Pitaluga as number two whilst Kelleher is away. He continues to learn of Ali.

Surely everyone is happy?

17.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:04:10
Spurs should look to sign Kelleher as Lloris is absolutely dreadful and has been for years now. That’s to say if he was ever that good in the first place.

18.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:15:35
Sell Alisson now? You can't be serious. Sell a player while he is at his peak now, because he won't be in 2-3 years from now?

Clearly, none of you are in management. And thankfully none of you are in football coaching either.

19.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:32:33
"Alisson is overrated. " This site just keeps on giving!

20.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:39:29
How do we know Allison won't want to leave in a year or so? As suggested why not loan out Kelleher for a year or so and then number 1 when Ali leaves?

21.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:40:26
Ffs selling Alisson. I know we've developed an obsession with players needing to be sold when they get to 30, but he's a goalkeeper. He'll be fine until he's 36 at least.

22.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 17:54:06
He's got to be worth 40m if Ward was worth 12m.
Our GK school looks pretty likely to create more ballers in the future and CK needs to show himself to the world. I can see Newcastle buying him.

23.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 18:50:10
@ spaceman Newcastle have just extended karius contract so he's probably not going there.

{Ed001's Note - didn't they just release him before recalling Dubravka from his loan with Man Utd? I am 99.999999% sure they did.}

24.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 18:57:14
Unbelievable! Sell Ali? Absolutely the worst post I've ever seen on this site! Lol. Complete stupidity. He has single handley saved us on so many occasions and is the best keeper in the world. Lay off the mushrooms 007.

25.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 18:57:40
Can't see Newcastle buying him, spaceman, with Pope their keeper.

26.) 18 Jan 2023

Kelleher is the future can you imagine the grief he would have got re A B mistake’s this season, blind faith!

27.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 19:29:37
God knows where we would be this season without Alisson in the team. Kelleher Looks a great keeper but does not play every week so you don’t know how he would be in the team full time. Give him a new contract and a loan next season there are plenty of top teams in the league that need a new keeper spurs being top of the list get a loan fee if he plays well over a full season his value will skyrocket and we can see if he is good enough to take Alisson place full time.

28.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 20:30:52

Just wow.

4 people have given him thumbs up as well ? must be Utd or Everton fans infiltrating the page ?.

29.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 20:36:28
Excellent thread this - groundbreaking in fact - we seem to be arriving at the idea that we sell our best players just as they approach their peak so that 1) we don’t have to worry about them getting old and losing form and 2) we can bring the next generation through and promote them before they are ready

Of course the result is that we will never actually be as good as we could / should be but it’s a small price to pay if we don’t have to worry about players losing form and stuff. Top idea.

{Ed025's Note - its a gift that keeps on giving..

30.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 20:47:56
Allison is better no doubts on that. agree with the above we would be 14th at best with an average keeper. But with the ball at his feet I take Kelleher all day. A 2 year loan would be great.

31.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 21:24:15
Ali is brilliant but without money to buy new players he's also one of the few sellable assets we have while also having a very decent back up. Don't want it to happen but I can see what the other posters mean.

{Ed025's Note - i really cant OMM?, you dont sell your pest players especially when they are reaching their peak mate, kelleher is a very good No2 but who knows how he would perform as the head honcho?...i think the same was said about karius..

32.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 21:24:22
So correct me if I am wrong, the general consensus is utter hatred towards players that run down their contract and leave on a free? Bar Mané, but even his departure ruffled a few feathers.

At some point you have to sell players, as all cannot leave for free. Or maybe you might think that is a successful business model?

But to sell players, other clubs have to pay for them and they tend to only want to pay large fees for desirable players. Which in turn enables us to buy expensive players and stay within FFP (which I think is a crock of sh! t and doesn’t apply to clubs who have enough money to bribe their way out of it) .

Or we don’t have enough money and have to scratch around the back of the sofa.

We got zero for Mané, Wijnaldum, Can, Lallana, the list goes on and on.

We will get nothing for Ox, Keita and possibly Firmino.

And nothing for Milner and Hendo.

Is this business model sustainable? If not, what is the solution? If we are not going to advocate the sale of players at a premium, can we survive off of gate receipts and sponsorship alone? If we can survive, why are FSG looking for investment?

I am not saying Alisson should be sold, just that he is most probably our most saleable asset.

33.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 21:36:03
Also, there was one moment v Wolves where Kelleher claimed the ball and two wolves players tried to sandwich him. He didn’t buckle under the pressure and with extremely safe hands took the ball and used his strength to ride the challenge.

If Alisson has a major weakness it is his inability to deal with physicality. It doesn’t happen often but I have seen Alisson crumble in this situation, especially defending set pieces when a player stands directly in front of him, mishandling, looking for a foul and we are a goal down when it is not awarded.

Kelleher has a steely side to him, most probably because of his Gaelic Football background, and a calmness I haven’t seen in a goalkeeper for a long time. I think we will sincerely regret it if we let him leave.

{Ed025's Note - i dont believe some of the posters on here sometimes, you have the best keeper bar none in the world and now you want to sell him and put an untried kid in goal and you think thats a good idea?...give your head a wobble will ya..

34.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 22:08:44
Couldn’t put it better myself ed25. I’ve read some nonsense on this site before but the reasoning behind selling our best player this season, and arguably the best keeper in the world, is hands down the most cr@p I’ve read here.

{Ed025's Note - it really does beggar belief Reyrey..

Selling Alisson is as horrible a suggestion as selling Salah we’d be like 15th without him. Build around our best players.

18 Jan 2023 22:24:17
I have read a lot of horrible posts here over the last 5 to 6 years, but this has to be the worst by a country mile. And some of the comments backing the idea deserve a temporary ban.

007, have you been on the beers this evening?

You’ve been coming out with some strange stuff this evening.

Can’t say I agree at all with selling AB.

We need MORE high quality players in the squad; not less.

39.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 22:48:47
Ed25 Kelleher is not untried, is no kid, he is 24 and I am not advocating selling Alisson. I am just saying he is our most saleable asset (no it isn’t Salah, stop your internal dialogue, you’re wrong) and being “the best keeper in the world bar none” just adds weight to that, does it not?

And Something Red, letting Mané go for £27.5m, for the no2 player on the Ballon D’or is a crime, literally a steal. It might as well have been f@ck all. I am so sorry I didn’t stat check like some data nerd who only lives to placate the clique and agree with the majority.

Please don’t take any of this personally. Sometimes I like to play devil’s advocate. I am not here to make friends and nobody is right all of the time. We all have our opinions but sometimes it is like a Wild West posse on here, bullying and turning on people (Harry, VVVV) or players (Keita) and hounding them off the site but still thinking you have the morale high ground.

Isn’t our motto YNWA? Does that actually mean anything these days? If not, we may as well sell the club to the highest bidder and not worry about ethics because the soul has already gone.

{Ed025's Note - it seems like you think only your opinions count SEA, you are doing exactly what you are accusing everybody else of doing there mate..

let LFC sell Keller but insist on a buy back clause for when Ali retires.

41.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 23:02:25
@Navy, that’s the conundrum that seems to be hidden to some people though isn’t it? in order to buy the most expensive players in the world (and prove to fans of other clubs that we all have really big willies) we need to sell our players with proven quality on the PL and CL and replace them with players who cost loads of money but don’t necessarily have the same proven quality. Like I say, it’s a genuinely ground breaking idea.

42.) 18 Jan 2023

44.) 18 Jan 2023
18 Jan 2023 23:45:57
@SEA - it isn’t quit as simple as we bought A player (in this case Mane) for 30 odd million and then sold him for 20 odd million so we ‘lost’ 10 million though
How much did the club gain i revenue from merchandise, sponsorship, addition income for qualifying for Europe (and the later stages) by having Mane in the team. Of corse with him being on the wrong side of 30, apparently a magical age. His value would also have started to depreciate. just saying.

45.) 18 Jan 2023

I have followed this site for a long time. Never felt the urge to post anything. Bit this is absolutely ridiculous. You lot need to give your heads a good shake. Wolves have scored 12 goals this season in the league. It’s not like we kept a clean sheet against a world class attacking team. Also are you forgetting we are Liverpool? Why would we sell the best gk in the world and replace him with a young lad with little experience? When you all sober up in morning you are going to feel like a bunch of numptys.

47.) 19 Jan 2023
19 Jan 2023 00:11:12
If there’s no champions league football next year and we’re as bad next season as we are this season (which without major investment in the squad we probably will be), then I’d imagine that Alisson would probably want to move anyway and ask for a transfer for the sake of his career.
