Morning Redmen,
Manu Kone being mentioned around today by Fabrizio Romano, anything concrete in this Ed’s?
Have to say, I have never heard of him let alone see him play. Any posters have anything they can share on type of midfielder?

{Ed002's Note - Manu Kouadio Kone (CM/DM) Prior interest of Milan has gone. Newcastle did approach Borussia Muenchegladbach but they will resist a sale and try and agree a new deal, but Newcastle remain keen. RBL are keen to add Kone to replace Laimer. Bayern Munich are light on DM and CM and are looking to add Kone and Laimer in the summer. Borussia Dortmund see him as a Bellingham replacement if he leaves in the summer. Not first choice for Chelsea but Vivell may push for him - which could spell the end for Ngolo Kante as well as Kovacic and Loftus Cheek. Liverpool have spoken with his agents but not yet BM. Watched by a number of other Premier League sides including West Ham, Manchester United and Brighton. A wildcard maybe PSG. Player wants Chelsea move but not being in the CL could influence him further. Asking price will by €60M including add ons.}

So it’s my dogs birthday today, she is four, so that must mean four new signings, so with two already in the bag in McA and Slobo who’s next?
Lavia? Llorente? Kone? Thuram? Schurrs?
Seriously though, losing two very experienced premier league players at the same time is a little concerning as new players need time. Looking forward to seeing how we line up this season.

I disagree, whilst we potentially lose two very experienced players (I assume you're referring to Fabs and Hendo) we have gained a WC winner and have plenty of experienced heads in the team in VVD, Robbo, Ali, Trent, Salah etc.
For months there have been calls for the club to do exactly this - move on high earners who aren't guaranteed starters and then when the club does it, there is scepticism and negativity.

Llorente at 28 and a big fee goes against everything we’ve done in the past.
But I suppose so do the outgoings we are seeing.
So perhaps Klopp and the transfer team are reinventing the wheel.

I don't think anyone, other than the football manager and FUT-types, expected that we would clear house of Keita, Ox, Milner, Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago in one window.
It would be an unprecedented clear out. And to me would signal that we're a year away from competing for the leagu.

Any reports relating to Llorente appear to value him at approx £35m which for an experienced player must be seen as good value particularly when you look at what Lavia is being valued at. I do agree with above poster that we have experience accross the squad so I don’t read it as catastrophic that we lose Fabs and Hendo. Personally if I had the option I would be going Lavia and Barella.

JK, I think we anticipating a large chunk of Saudi money burning a hole in our pockets. And i don't see any way of bringing in experienced quality replacements for hendo and fab for peanuts. For me, we need to upgrade them 2. Not just replace. Im a fan of llorente for hendo. Im not sure about a DM.

If we lose both Fabinho and Hendo then personally I would get the Lavia deal wrapped up asap then try and get Caicedo. I understand Chelsea are deep in negotiations for Caicedo but those two at the base of our midfield would be the perfect summer.

JK, Hendo said he would cover half the LFC first teams wages from his weekly Saudi wage as a favour, so that frees up some extra funds.

JK23. Not sure how we cover it bud. We were after Lavia before the news of Hendo and Fab so maybe that £60 million goes some way to funding a Caicedo deal. And the funds we already had allocated for Lavia gets that deal done. All guessing game here as might not even move for Caicedo and he could well end up at Chelsea. But if there’s a chance of getting both, then those two would be my first choice pairing for the base of our midfield.

Livered Fabinho has definitely not ‘dropped off so much in the last few seasons’!
One season ago he was arguably the best DM in the league as we chased down a quadruple. He’s had one bad season and he did become a father at the start of last season so that could have a lot to do with it. Priorities change when you have a family.
I was all for getting him back on form this season but if Klopp thinks his head’s not in it anymore then so be it. Let him go and get someone hungrier in his place.

Afternoon Redmen and Ed’s,
Haven’t been on the site for a while, hence the forgotten password ? I found that after one or two poor results this year, there seemed a massive up swelling of negativity on the site and I didn’t need the negativity personally at that time. Thankful to say, I’m in a better place now and please, anyone with mental problems, please seek support. It will save your life. But have to be honest, wow, what a set of over-reaction posts on here sometimes.
This is the team that 8 months ago nearly won everything! Yes we are struggling for form, and injuries haven’t helped at all. The main thing that worries me is Jurgen may walk.
Watched the entirety of the Brighton game. It was awful. The most concerning is how easy it was to turn away from us and find space. What we need against Wolves is a bit of dog in us, a bit of fight, hunger and closing down.
But most guys, remember who you support, through the good and bad, you will never walk alone.

What we need against wolves and what we get are 2 very different things though. I feel we haven't hit rock bottom yet unfortunately. Wolves are crap and so too Chelsea currently but think they'll both beat us.

Ed’s, I agree Trent looks good in that space, but do you think he would play the inverted RB better than a DM? To me, he seems to get more space arriving into that area with someone giving him the ball than starting in that area?
{Ed001's Note - no, I think the DM role is much better suited for him, he understands the positioning defensively as well. The hybrid role I just do not like at all, it doesn't work. People will go crazy about how it worked for City, yet they struggled for large parts of the season because of how poorly it worked for them. No idea why people want to copy a cack idea like that. Simplicity is always better. Overcomplicating things just leads to problems.}
