Rumour has it that Minteh wants the move with Liverpool set to up their offer.
21 Aug 2026 13:21:56
Minteh wants to move from BHA to LFC.
That's a rumour I can completely believe.
21 Aug 2026 13:27:08
Long term, this would be a good signing if we pull it off and, in my opinion, all the people throwing their toys out the pram about it will look very silly. Minteh is the exact kind of winger Iraola has had success with. Fast, direct, aggressive and good in 1v1 duels. He lacks end product right now for sure, but at the same age, Salah scored 5 goals in the Swiss Super League for Basel, so it's more about what the scouts believe Iraola can get out of him in terms of increased output.
As a side note, I think we'll surely see Chiesa and Elliott leave if we sign Barcola and Minteh as well as keeping Koumas.
21 Aug 2026 13:27:22
Just feels like the FSG era is fizzling out and we're just basically waiting for the Take-Over.
£60m on a Salah replacement who's got 3 goals all last season is just depressing.
If we really want him, just sign him in January.
He's out injured for 3 months anyway.
Our season was over in November last year. I just don't see the point in signing players who are gonna miss a third of the campaign, chucking this new manager right under the bus already.
21 Aug 2026 13:37:59
To be fair, if Minteh didn't want to move from Brighton to Liverpool, I'd be quite worried about his ambition as a football player.
Be a great move for him. I like him, agree with the posts that he's not done enough to warrant the money, but the money is mental, and, given Isak and Ekitike's profiles, we might not need as heavy of a reliance on goalscoring wingers. He definitely brings pace... I'll admit, I was a bit unsure at the time as to whether we were overpaying for both Mane and Salah, particularly Mane, and, by God, did he prove me wrong, 60mil now is probably 30/35mil then so seems about fair.
Injury wise, not ideal, but again, you don't sign players for a couple of months. I'd have slightly bigger concerns about his injury record, while I can't claim to be an expert on him, I believe he's been injured a decent amount over past few seasons. (Happy to be proven wrong, though.) Very hard for wingers to just pick up momentum after constant injuries as well, one thing we underappreciated with both Mane and Salah was how available they were all the time.
Anyway, happy to see new bodies, whoever they decide on, and hopefully Iraola can work his magic!
21 Aug 2026 13:41:39
Don't sign injured players. This rarely works out.
You don't spend £50m+ on an injured player.
21 Aug 2026 13:42:10
@LiverpoolFC8, we aren't trying to replace Salah's goals though. Iraola plays using his wingers to create for the cf so we are looking for someone more likely to create chances for Isak / Ekitike.
If your mentality is that you'll be depressed unless we replace Salah's goals, you were always gonna be disappointed, because there is not currently a winger in world football that can replace Salah's Premier League output.
21 Aug 2026 13:50:06
I'm not excited by any means, and the injury is a concern, but with the way the market is going he could very well be a 100m right winger in 2 years.
21 Aug 2026 14:03:35
Wirtz and Isak are the Salah replacements.
Barcola too, if we get him to a degree.
This will most likely be laughed at, but Minteh is a better complement to those 3 than a player like Olise.
We need a balancing act with those 3 and I feel like Minteh does that. Speed, hard work, defends well, good dribbler. And pretty solid at everything else without being amazing at them.
11 stars rarely works. You need the workhorses that don't have egos to do the dirty work. I'm very ok with Minteh from a team/squad balancing perspective and confident there's enough there on the ball to do a very solid job also.
If he goes up a level on the ball he could be a superb fit but I think he is already at a good level.
The fact he would come injured really is annoying. But he will hopefully be here for far longer and he is not that injury prone otherwise. Gives Munoz/Rio/Koumas chances to shine before that. Could end up an astute buy in my book. I know I'm probably in the minority but I almost like the signing.
21 Aug 2026 14:06:22
Absolutely detest anyone trying to compare players to Salah. You will never ever get his numbers in the last what 9 years again from a wide forward, it just won't happen and it's impossible to replace that output, he was a freak. The club are obviously trying to move in a different direction and get fast pace wingers so Isak and Hugo get the goals.
21 Aug 2026 14:07:30
So we're ignoring goals, and you wanna concentrate on creating chances, fair enough.
Minteh: 4 assists in 34 games last season.
It's not good enough no matter which way you wanna spin this. It's a terrible signing.
21 Aug 2026 14:18:54
No, LFC8. Klopp's team was set up in a way to compliment Salah's skills. Salah was poor when Slot changed the system last year - the system didn't make the best use of his skills. AI's set up will be different than Slot's, and the way we play will suit Minteh's skills, one of which is setting up chance# for the CFs - Isak, Eki or Munoz - rather than him scoring the vast majority of goals.
Minteh will suit the new system - a system that wouldn't have relied primarily on Salah.
21 Aug 2026 14:28:40
He's injured for 8 weeks for Christ's sake. We need fast, hardworking wingers, of which he is one. Needs to improve his output, but I can see the thinking behind it. Would rather Mbaye myself, but I don't mind Minteh.
21 Aug 2026 14:31:58
MK is right here, guys.
By that logic, nobody would have signed Ronaldo. He had no end product until a good coach got a hold of him. He was about 22 before he exploded.
I'm not saying he's the next Ronaldo, just that, if he improves that aspect, we've a player on our hands.
21 Aug 2026 14:36:37
Minteh may be fast, and he may work hard, but his first touch is woeful and his second touch is usually a foul. He is not god enough for Liverpool, he's not even a guaranteed starter for Brighton. This smells of desperation, poor planning and lack of scouting.
21 Aug 2026 14:49:30
Just trying to justify the Minteh bid, and wondering if AI would like Minteh and Mbaye to play RW, and Barcola supported by Rio on the LW, a lot of money to pay out, but would give us plenty of coverage when we needed to rest players, even after 60min, such fresh and fast players could cause chaos against a tiring defence.
21 Aug 2026 14:49:44
Agree with MK, this will be a good signing. He is not a Salah replacement, he is a provider. Everything under AI is to get to the striker. Minteh is in the 97% for crosses into the box.
Swap Isak for Welbeck, and those assists will rocket. He gets balls into the box. He's direct and only 22. Look what AI does with his coaching of young forward players.
21 Aug 2026 14:51:56
Over him or Rayan, which would you prefer? 30m more say for Rayan? Not really seen much of Minteh to really have an opinion, but signing an injured player doesn't sit right with me.
21 Aug 2026 15:05:57
Why doesn't Iraola just keep Elliot, Chiesa and Ramsey and improve them.
Save the club a fortune.
21 Aug 2026 15:14:50
Is this the same Minty from EastEnders?
Seriously, though, if he signs he gets my backing 100%. Too much dissing players, even before we see how they play in an Iraola Liverpool team. Trust that IA is approving these, and he knows what he is doing.
21 Aug 2026 15:20:40
Because neither of those are good enough, that's why, JK. Not that I believe Minteh is the answer either.
21 Aug 2026 15:22:08
Agreed, Magico. We just start off on the back foot.
21 Aug 2026 15:43:22
Davey Sulls, Stop making deep sense! So many fans want world class talent for each position and will be quick to criticize the club for paying premium fees for them. It never works! You need to balance things up and at 21, Minteh fits the bill. Great addition for me.
21 Aug 2026 15:44:06
I don't understand why some people persist in believing that every replacement needs to be like for like. When we signed Mo and Mane, and the majority of the goals started coming from the wings, were you also complaining that Bobby wasn't as much of a scoring threat through the middle as Suarez or Torres?
21 Aug 2026 15:47:45
Shankly, but the defence every player gets who we are linked with is they are young and Iraola will improve them.
21 Aug 2026 16:02:36
I do wish people would stop talking about a Salah replacement.
The only thing we can do realistically is bring in a couple of players who can help serve the attackers better.
Mo really was one of a kind imo, I mean his numbers were unreal.
I'm not overly sold on bringing in an already jiggered player, but saying he's supposed to be a Salah replacement doesn't quite work.
21 Aug 2026 13:23:06
What rumour would that be?
21 Aug 2026 14:51:54
Sounds like a tramp from yorkshire
21 Aug 2026 15:13:27
The balls up that is Richard Hughes should have had this sorted from last season when Mo said he was leaving. Instead of faffing about last min dot com. I'd stop all transfers til January get dickie out and the next sd in to take the lead. Shambles if you ask me
21 Aug 2026 16:27:24
LFC8, exploring your point (I don't agree, by the way, we are changing the shape of our team, and indeed the age profile of our team), who would give you a happy glow on the RW? Money no object, but I'd like to understand how you think they would help the team.
From my point of view, I completely agree that we shouldn't buy injured players, or especially loan injured players (even if they are Melo!), but we would be buying Minteh for 5+ years not just the next few weeks.
Just to clean up the point on Minteh's injury - he was injured 1 week ago with an injury that takes around 8 weeks to recover from, plus up to 4 weeks to get back up to fitness.
So, if we bought him, he would be available from mid-October (give or take a couple of weeks). So he would miss 5-8 PL games. Not 1/3 of the season or anything like that.
Overall, I would be happy with Minteh - I have been watching him (being a lesser-spotted left footed RW) for a couple of seasons as a potential RW for us. Haven't seen as much of Mbaye, but he comes with the advantage of being available right now (not in a few weeks) but the disadvantage of having no PL experience.
21 Aug 2026 16:53:48
@ScouseJohn, Did the FA change the rules so that Hughes could talk to any agents, clubs or players wherever he wanted? None of us know what was / is happening behind the scenes, and the slagging off of Hughes is tedious.
The club have bought Marma, Woodman, Kerkez, Frimpong, Leoni, Jacquet, Ndukwe, Araujo (loan with option to buy), Wirtz, Chiersa, Ekitike, Isak, Munoz and, seemingly, Barcola, and with at least a couple more players before the end of this window, since Slot joined two years ago. That’s 14 players who would be expected to hold down places in the first team squad. It was said by the club, when Jurgen left, that there would be changes in playing staff, and this would take a number of transfer windows.
It seems to me that they are following their stated plan.
Not all of the signings have worked out - that’s life - and a couple more still have to turn their massive potential into actual performance on the field, but they are a good chance of doing so in the coming season with AI in charge.
Criticism has its place, especially if constructive, but things like name calling and calling management "the idiots who run the club" just sound like petty childishness.
21 Aug 2026 17:17:17
Any chance we are going for both Minteh and Mbaye to rotate RW with BB and Rio on LW. Would certainly help with the amount of games we will be playing.
21 Aug 2026 17:35:19
He will improve players and the team, definitely. JK, but some players are just at their max level and cannot be improved. It's time to move those boys on.
21 Aug 2026 18:33:28
WDW: Hughes doesn't have to talk to any agent/ club to have a list of targets. Instead of faffing about. I haven't called anyone an idiot... yet.
21 Aug 2026 19:17:42
@LFC8, Those are his numbers in a team which doesn't create as many chances as any of the top 6. I imagine they'll be better with a couple of 100m players to pass to....
I think it's fair to say you have doubts, but we know he can handle the pace and physicality of the Premier League, and he is already settled in the UK.
Those are big factors. I know because a big part of my job is identifying player adaptation issues and helping them overcome them.
Minteh should be plug and play.
21 Aug 2026 21:10:43
Lol in a normal window, no one would have paid more than 40 million for Minteh.
