Ed1, good day. With Wirtz can be considered as good as a done deal, I want to ask you a question. Who would you rank your top 3 Liverpool transfer that make you the most excited? let's make it during the Premier League era as I'm not old enough to watch the pre Premier League era.

{Ed001's Note - for me it is simple, it is the 3 players I was desperate for us to sign that we did sign. So Wirtz, Alisson and Firmino. Oh wait, God's return topped them all, I have to say, even though we all knew he was not the same as he had been. Just to see Fowler back in the red shirt was a tear in the eye moment.}

For me it would be Fabinho, Suarez and Nunez. I’ve been so disappointed with Nunez because I really thought he would be a success after the way he tore us to shreds for Benfica.

14 Jun 2025 09:36:25
Honest answer, Thiago.

I remember checking in on the daily to see if the deal was done.

Not the same as Wirtz but I remember being absolutely over the moon when the official post came out.

Just a shame injuries curtailed him. When he was on the pitch he was magic at times.

14 Jun 2025 09:39:21
I think I'd go with Torres, Thiago and probably been swayed by the Fowler shout by ed001. He's the person I blame for being a red so to see him come back when i was a bit older was awesome to see.

14 Jun 2025 09:47:44
Great answers there.

Mine would be Torres, Thiago and Nunez.

Embarrassingly I was also really excited when we signed Benteke. I thought he was going to be top class for us.

14 Jun 2025 10:06:37
This era Wirtz, last era Torres but the one that was special was John Barnes.

14 Jun 2025 10:11:32
Kewell, Torres and Alisson. It's fair to say, their success is varied.

14 Jun 2025 10:12:01
Nothing beats the feeling of hearing about Robbie Fowler’s return to the club.

14 Jun 2025 10:23:01
I was going to go for Barnes, Strom, but then realised the poster said PL era. Barnes was, and always will be, my hero.

14 Jun 2025 10:23:24
Fowler first time around was just magical. For me he was probably the most naturally gifted player. Lethal finishing and a proper goal scorer. Miles better than Owen. Ed1, is it safe to say that Owen and Fowler don’t like each other?

{Ed001's Note - they were never friends, let's put it that way. To be honest, I don't know of anybody that would have considered Owen a friend when he was playing. I am sure there are some, there must be, I just don't know who they are.}

14 Jun 2025 10:41:31
Torres, Suarez and Salah. I was gutted when Salah went to Chelsea so was over the moon when we eventually got him.

14 Jun 2025 10:46:27
I always thought Carragher and O.

14 Jun 2025 10:47:12
I always thought Carragher and Owen were best of mates when they played.

14 Jun 2025 11:08:23
Torres was the big one for me. At that time we never really spent big on a player and Torres was absolute class.

14 Jun 2025 11:20:02
Harry Kewell for me. I remember at the time there was talk of him going to Arsenal amongst others and when he opted for us I was over the moon. Thought he was a great player, good touch with a great left foot but due to injuries, didn’t quite live up to expectations. Oh, and I taught his nephew who sorted me out for CL semi final tickets in 2007!

14 Jun 2025 11:23:04
Was actually his Brother in Law, not nephew! Mind going a bit in old age!

14 Jun 2025 11:23:08
Suarez, Virgil and Allison for me.

14 Jun 2025 11:23:11
Suarez torres van dyke for me.

14 Jun 2025 11:33:00
Torres, Suarez, Wirtz.

I think it has to be forward players for excitement ?.

14 Jun 2025 11:39:37
Fernando Morientes, Torres and suarez. Although Morientes disappointed.

14 Jun 2025 11:40:40
You're spot on about Arsenal wanting Kewell, Disco. They were way better than us back then and never thought we'd get him. You're being far kinder to him then me! I thought he was a complete and utter disaster!

14 Jun 2025 11:43:25
Honestly thought Nunez was going to be a star.

Between him and Haaland, I thought Nunez was the far better player. Haaland was so injury prone at Dortmund and offered nothing in build up. Nunez just looked the perfect fit, safe to say I got that one wrong.

14 Jun 2025 11:56:42
Owen is just an incredibly odd person to be honest, I'm not sure that hanging out with him would be too fun. I remember him saying that he hates movies because he doesn't like the fact that it's fictive and made up, and then there's that bizarre home video he made with him scoring on that 14 year old kid, celebrating like he had won the world cup, and Neville Southall having to console the poor lad.

As far as signings I was excited about, I was really excited about Mac allister to be honest, I thought he was brilliant at Brighton and in the world cup, he's still probably my favourite player besides Virgil. As a kid I was ecstatic that we were signing riedle and morientes, neither of them were really that great though. Cisse and anelka too of course.

I've always been a bit of a bvb fan so I was really happy about berger coming (as one might guess from my name), but a big one for me was nuri sahin. I was a huge huge fan of his and thought we had pulled off a massive coup, but he had probably just as torrid a time as chiesa with Rodgers clearly not favoring him and constantly playing him out of position for garbage minutes.

14 Jun 2025 12:02:37
Morientes, Torres and babel .

I used to sign Torres and babel on football manager and they were brilliant. Unfortunately babel never became the player he was in the game.

14 Jun 2025 12:08:29
Torres for me, really wanted him, I got to say Klopp too, again I really hoped we sign him.

14 Jun 2025 12:12:13
Harry Kewell, always thought he was going to be great. Also, Mark Gonzalez. I remember telling my brother that he was apparently going to be a superstar and was really excited when we got him. Obviously didn't turn out that way!

14 Jun 2025 12:15:55
Refreshing this site for VVD updates used to be my daily ritual

My other two are Wirtz and Suarez.

14 Jun 2025 12:19:12
Ed1, suprised that you didn't mentioned Van Dijk. Actually looking through the reply, not many mentioned Van Dijk. For me Wirtz is top 1 and nobody come close. Just because I actually watch him play many times in bundesliga, and he looks the best player on the pitch and ridiculously good everytime I watch him play.

If I have to choose another two, I might go with Thiago and Alisson. Thiago because everybody know how good of a player he is. And Alisson because I remember how highly rated he is by Ed1. I remembered saying to you Ed1, that your jinx curse might have been lifted the moment we sign Alisson.

14 Jun 2025 12:20:11
In last 10 years it would be vvd Alisson and Keita (I really thought he would nail down our midfield for a decade) . got to say I’m adding wirtz to that list. Here’s hoping he turns out to be light years better than keita.

14 Jun 2025 12:22:59
Suarez was easily most excitement for me but I ve been excited by many transfers.

My top 3 excitement wise were:
Suarez, Torres, Wirtz.

I was very excited by players that didn't work out too like Nunez and Kieta.

14 Jun 2025 12:23:06
Konoplynka, Reid and Simao ???.

14 Jun 2025 12:27:51
The ones i was most excited for were Alisson, Thiago and Szoboszlai (excluding players arriving in this transfer window), in that order! ?.

14 Jun 2025 12:28:43
Barnes by a long shot. The best player we’ve had. Suarez. And Maxi.

14 Jun 2025 12:32:16
Beardsley and Barnes for me.

14 Jun 2025 12:43:16
I have to say that beyond any player the one person I was happiest to see come to the club was far and away Jürgen, I was almost in tears when I realised that it might actually happen. I had been watching pretty much every Dortmund match a season after he arrived from Mainz and I knew he was going to get us back to the top and that we were going to love watching the team get there.

14 Jun 2025 13:52:19
Macca is the one i was most excited by until Wirtz, Alisson was the one before that

The other 2 that i was embarrassingly excited by were Benteke and Lambert - i thought him and Lallana were going to pick up where they left off at Southampton

I thought Ings would be great too, maybe im just terrible at picking CFs.

{Ed077's Note - looks that way ?

14 Jun 2025 14:24:39
God coming back and scoring again.

Torres - went nuts about this at the time. He was something else when on fire.

Klopp - like torres he was an obvious perfect fit for us and it came to pass. What he did for our club can never be underestimated. 1 league title might be a stick other supporters will use but he turned our club upside down, along with the help of others of course. He sits on equal par with the greats. Dread to think what we would be now if he hadn't took took the job.

14 Jun 2025 14:38:07
Harry kewell, joe Cole and probably VVD.

14 Jun 2025 15:10:29
Edd001 why did houlier want fowler out if that's true with what fowler alleged?

14 Jun 2025 15:13:49
Rome . when people say the prem league . i don't get that . to me its exactly the same league what its always been . but a different name . told u i was old skool ha.

{Ed001's Note - to answer Batman's question as I missed it first time round, Ged got rid of God because Owen hated playing alongside him.}

14 Jun 2025 15:38:09
Strom, I'm with you, mate. 100%.

14 Jun 2025 16:10:08
ED001 Owen knew Fowler was a far better player than him . esp when he was fit . plus he knew the fans adored fowler n we all knew Owen was a numpty. used to talk about England n hardly ever Liverpool, even in his heyday he wasnt liked . but one was called God n the other was called . well take ya pick.

14 Jun 2025 16:39:59
Interesting no one mentioning Salah….

Suarez
Wirtz
Bobby.

14 Jun 2025 20:05:13
Torres, VVD and Cisse. Cisse didn't live up to the hype though, although I'm sure he had a horrific leg break. He was quick though.
