Just my thoughts and it's not a Slot in or Slot out post.
Bit late getting home tonight and had the City game on the radio. Pretty poor performance by all accounts and well beaten - this from a team that after beating a poor Newcastle side last week "experts" like Mcoist were waxing lyrical about Peps re build starting to take shape! Pep also had last season as a transition and re build season as well!
I know it's all ifs, buts and maybe's but even taking into account our poor form and turgid style of play looking back on certain games and the points we've given up with late, last kick goals and not putting Burnley away on Saturday we could and should be in 2nd place possibly only 6 points behind Arsenal and if that had of been the case definitely in a title race, CL contention and a possible cup run ahead of us - this with a team in transition plus a striker and a central defender out with season ending injuries.
IF that had been the scenario and we were still in a title race would the Slot out posters been as fervent with having him replaced - and before I get jumped on I have also criticised him massively throughout and if he were to go I'd be completely ok with it
I also can see the frustration by all of us that this season is truly a massively missed opportunity.

Haters will always hate mate
But in saying that, I don't think the noise would be as loud if we were still in a title race. Isn't that obvious?
20 Jan 2026 20:23:04
For me, i would still be Slot out even if we were still in the title race. The performances have been shocking since we were embarrassingly dumped out of the FA cup by Plymouth. The performances since then, have been equally as shocking with only the odd result against Madrid anything to write home about.
Our current position in the league is overly flattering. We won't win anything playing like this, and that's what it comes down to at the end of the day.
20 Jan 2026 20:23:28
Same could be said of City, even the likes of Villa etc. it's been an incredibly poor league to date, but everybody has been poor. We benefited last year under similar circumstances and it looks as though arsenal might do just enough to do it this year. Though personally, I still think they may cock it up.
20 Jan 2026 20:49:07
The fact that the league has been poor underlines what a missed opportunity this season was for us. We can't make any excuses of other teams misgivings. We can only judge ourselves and with the exception of 1 or 2 decent performances we've been terrible. We need a change of manager and for me it can't come soon enough.
20 Jan 2026 20:49:40
If we're comparing both sides on just this season alone.
They smashed us to bits at Etihad, they've had more good games than we have, they're above us In the league, and they've signed our two transfer targets
In my opinion we're a better team, have a better squad, and are massively underperforming due to the manager not adapting to his squad.

Haters will always hate and moaners will always moan about other fans who dare have a different opinion to them.
20 Jan 2026 21:43:44
Coulda, shoulda we aren't playing well enough. The results and performances are lacking. We should support but blindsight isn't going to help the club move forwards.

And amongst all this you have to consider a lot of these young men (most are under 28) have had to experience the loss of a genuine loved one. Not only having to experience that lost but re live it every match day and everyday in training.
I've lost loved ones and a close brother but I don't have daily reminders if him. When you grieve you learn over time to let go. Imagine having to let go of a grief you get regular reminders of. From absolute euphoria to a painful less.
I can give them slack this season on that alone.
Im very dissapointed and there is reason for much dissapointment but we've been in FAR worse predicaments.
YNWA.

All my mates are Albion season ticket holders. All screamed for the manager to be sacked. He was. They got stuffed tonight, at home, 5-0 by Norwich.
Just saying.
20 Jan 2026 23:07:38
Our performances are not up to scratch, don't forget they weren't after we secured the league last year,
Wherever we are in the table if you want to watch that served up every week in the name of Liverpool fc then you're insane,
Its boring and slow and tactically drab, thanks for last season but time to start getting back to playing to our strengths not trying not to get beat by being too negative.
20 Jan 2026 23:15:57
You can always look at what ifs but honestly, how bad we have been, we are lucky to be where we are right now. Mid table is throughly deserved.

"I don't do if's, but's or maybe's, I do absolutes, if your Aunt had balls she'd b your uncle, but she hasn't, so she's not".
21 Jan 2026 00:17:08
I think the fact that we are still 4th despite how poor our performances have been just shows how poor this league is.
21 Jan 2026 00:36:46
I know this isn't aimed at just Slot but our squad is worrying. City may not be great at the moment but they have depth and cover as does Arsenal. We have such a ooor squad we have a couple of injuries and we look thread bare. Whilst it looked like we got great money for some of our squad players when we sold them. We put all our eggs in one basket in the summer to prove a point we could get the man we wanted we didn't improve in so many places that was needed.
This summer it's likely Konate, Robbo, Tsimikas, Endo leave. Then we have Salah and VVD will be that year older and with only 1 year left
We are going to have to bring in a minimum of 5 players in the summer if not 7-9 to have a squad to realistically compete going forward.
21 Jan 2026 05:11:17
Albion, I work with someone who was a United fan, he was screaming for the manager to be sacked. He was. They stuffed Pep Guardiola's Man City at the weekend.
Just saying.
21 Jan 2026 05:19:01
@1985, I disagree with you. We are 4th in the league because the league is in a very poor state. Even though we are a shadow of the team Klopp put together for his 'heavy metal" stuff we are, in the context of the league last and this season we are where we deserve to be.
21 Jan 2026 06:41:29
Agree WDW. The league is looking pretty crazy at the moment.
By Sunday evening best case scenario we could still be 4th and 6 points clear of 9th place and 4 points off 3rd and 11 off top.
Worst case scenario we could actually be 9th place.
21 Jan 2026 07:21:31
If we deserve to be mid table where do all the teams below us deserve to be? I don't get how folks say that this points total would have us in 10th any other year, okay, fine, but you could say that about any other team. Does that mean every team below us deserves to be relegated or fighting relegation?
21 Jan 2026 07:33:23
I expected thar reply, Frode. I sometimes just post stuff to get a reaction. I'm a cantankerous old git! All the best mate.
21 Jan 2026 10:38:12
Stuie_boy you're spot on mate the league has been poor we have teams scared to play football and put 11 men behind the ball and other teams like us and Man City are playing systems that we both seem to be unable come to terms with . The premier league needs to look at the way teams are playing it is not a good look being allegedly the best league in the world.
I think a change to the points system 1 point for a 0-0, 2 points for a score draw and 3 points for a win may be a better system .
YNWA.
21 Jan 2026 11:32:14
If we won 5 of the 6 games we drew in that "unbeaten" run i would have supported Slot a lot more, but dropping points to Leeds (twice) burnley, Sunderland and fulham when we need to get every single point is simply not good enough and for that he has to go.
Something is clearly wrong when the players are having clear the air talks every other month.
21 Jan 2026 11:51:06
Can we have Darwin back instead?
22 Jan 2026 01:15:34
So you only support when we win @ArneSB ??.
