Why do we want Slot to go? Are we really turning into that fan base. We won the league last year which was the peak for that squad. This team and squad need to develop. When we win the champipms league things will change.

Here's a scenario that is highly unlikely to take place. Would you take Alonso now and scrape 4th spot, or, finish outside top 4 and get Enrique in the summer?
Like I say, not going to happen, but I'm bored!
19 Jan 2026 21:14:48
Nobody really knows when Slot will leave Liverpool or if he even will.
He could go on to turn things around and have a good run until the end of the season.
It could get worse from here on out, forcing FSG to make a move in order to save our season.
It's all guesswork.
19 Jan 2026 23:42:00
I think he'll go Berger, the pitch forks are out and the village idiots are charging at his gates. It's only a matter of time.
I'm not totally against it but care is needed. We don't want to become a reactionary club, there are reasons why we have dropped off this season and Slot's management is only one of them.
We just need to be sure that replacing him is taking us forward and not down the same rabbit hole that so many clubs have gone down and not resurfaced for years. If ever.
20 Jan 2026 02:40:27
A reactionary club is better than a passive one out of the CL places. Not a case of better the devil you know for me SD.
19 Jan 2026 09:08:58
Chelsea in talks for Jacquet, looks like another potential CB going by the wayside.
19 Jan 2026 09:26:54
I was always under the impression that our main target in terms of that profile of CB (early 20's, ready to play but also higher ceiling, scouted from a weaker league etc) was Joel Ordonez. I really hope we can do something there before the end of the window.
I understand the thought process behind the decision to wait for Guehi. It hasn't worked out, but hindsight is a wonderful thing right. With Ordonez though, there is no logic at all behind waiting until the summer. Get him in early to phase Konate out now. Then in the summer we only have to worry about a long term Van Dijk successor, instead of needing 2 CB's.
19 Jan 2026 11:30:53
And Leone should be back in the mix ready to be reintroduced for next season. Certainly gives younger options across all of the CB conundrums.
19 Jan 2026 13:47:17
With Konate rejecting another contract it makes the decision making look even worse. That's potentially three new centre backs needed, given that Gomez should be moved on due to chronic injury issues, Konate leaving on a free and Van Dijk also being at the end of his career. That's without mentioning the fact we also need a defensive minded midfielder and a winger.
19 Jan 2026 17:52:55
I really wonder who Konate thinks is going to come in and offer him big money.
19 Jan 2026 20:40:05
Surely if we're miles apart on terms we would have just sold him, and we wouldn't keep on negotiating if the other side isn't moving unless we think they're bluffing.
19 Jan 2026 22:41:04
How can we sell him Hugo, we have nobody to replace him?
20 Jan 2026 02:46:14
Let's hope Konate keeps rejecting contracts if the club are so inclined to renew him.
20 Jan 2026 07:16:50
Hugo, you can't sell a player if he doesn't want to leave and he wants to see his contract out. As for who'd pay him what he wants, he'll still have a choice of clubs to go to, I'd imagine Bayern would be interested as will Juventus (they love a free transfer), it won't just be the wages it'll be the signing on fee.
19 Jan 2026 06:34:58
Morning Eds, hearing that on the back of being current champions and our most successful manager over his first 60 games, FSG are thinking of offering Arne a well deserved new contract. They are impressed how he has stabilised us over the past 12 games, look well placed for a deep run in the CL, and Saturday's performance ( if not result) was back to the standards of the first two thirds of last season.
If Ibou, Cody and Mac were playing at the same level as then, we would have comfortably won 3-0, which would have been the fair result.
19 Jan 2026 07:52:59
"…well placed for a deep run in the CL"?
We aren't at all well placed for a run in the CL, as soon as we draw anyone half decent we're out. We can't beat Burnley at home and keep conceding cheap goals so how anyone can be delusional enough to think we good enough to win the biggest competition in club football is baffling. Slot hasn't fixed any of the issues that are affecting the team, still weak and soft in midfield and defence and have all the penetration of a eunuch at an orgy. Same rubbish different week.
19 Jan 2026 13:00:05
I'm by no means a fan of how we're currently playing but Carras recent revelation got me thinking whether we are being harsh.
At any level it's very difficult to gain instant success when integrating 5 new players at once. In my opinion the success of the previous year was down to him using a settled team as opposed to Klopps team.
Slot is clearly capable unlike how some want us to believe
He won the league. Klopp didn't the previous year so for anyone who says it was klopps team is unfair and I'm a huge Klopp fan.
He has tried different formations which at least shows he tried to adapt if not always with success. When he tried a very attacking formation at the very start of the season we were left short at the back. I can't help think that now some of the new players have settled he can look to return to this with adaptations.
Statistically we should have battered Burnley but didn't. Is that down to the coach always? I seem to remember Klopp struggling against low block teams and coming out with draws despite high stats post game. Some on here wanted him gone too!
My main gripe with Slot is the lack of set piece potency that we saw under Klopp.
Alonso may come in and work wonders but we really don't know. With Slot we have the benefit of assessing what he's done well and what hasn't gone to plan.
Given that Slot thumped Alonso, has mitigating circumstances of releasing and acquiring too many players at once, Jotas unfortunate death and the huge drop in form of our back 2, I can't help think he maybe deserves another season should we secure top 4.
I have a feeling his 3rd season will be what his 1st season was and his 2nd one should have been.
18 Jan 2026 22:39:13
Ed1 do you see slot making the end of the season? Or a change happening.
{Ed001's Note - hard to say as it comes down to results and performances. It is looking less and less likely though, he is turning the crowd against himself.}
19 Jan 2026 08:59:23
The booing at Anfield was the only time I can remember the crowd booing a manager. The last time we booed was when FSG announced a price hike of the tickets and the fans organised a walkout at the 77th minute about 10 years back. So it wasn't even directed at the manager or the players. Was Rodgers or Hodgson booed during their time?
19 Jan 2026 09:05:08
He knows he's getting the boot so I think he's just waiting for it - expect more nonsense statements from him, he's trying to force their hand to pull the trigger. Even he is probably wondering why they haven't sacked him yet.
19 Jan 2026 09:34:15
All we need now is for us to faff about more until we are 7th or 8th in the league and Xabi takes another job and this abysmal season will reach it's climax.
19 Jan 2026 04:16:20
Slot edward and Hughes all have 18 months left on their contract.
Interesting very interesting. Conspirator in me feels it is an orchestrated event. They all get the sack and rake in the moolah.
Xabi is obviously the first choice for us but i don't see how Hughes and edward can continue after this. They all have proved very very incapable of doing the job and running the club.
I think now they are just sitting to get the sack and secure their bags.
19 Jan 2026 09:00:00
I think the truth is far simpler and more obvious. They're all just out of their depth in their current roles.
19 Jan 2026 09:03:21
They all looked so incapable as Virgil lifted the Premier League trophy last season.
Sack them all and start again I hate being champions.
20 Jan 2026 07:06:14
We were champions last season Sean. We're also rans this season, hope you're enjoying that.
19 Jan 2026 03:39:08
I can see this management issue being resolved this week 🤞.
19 Jan 2026 01:29:19
Van hecke from Brighton before end of this window. Maybe stiller and schottlerback also, if wages can be agreed Toney in on an 18month contract. Get xabi in with these signings.
19 Jan 2026 06:02:16
Not happening Fowlher81.
No first team incomings this window, and no manager change yet either.
18 Jan 2026 17:43:44
Isak is going to go down as one of the worst signings of all time.
The way he moved, the choice not to train, the animosity, the form and the injuries all point to a failed mega money signing. Obviously its not over yet, but this is my guess.
The time to buy him was instead of Nunez.
18 Jan 2026 18:02:44
Personally the money should of been spent on two wingers or a winger and another striker say an older experienced head.
18 Jan 2026 18:06:18
Honestly mate I think this injury might be the best thing for him, he came in and wasn't fit you could see he hadn't had a pre season, he now has a year to work fully on strengthening and his conditioning, maybe glass half full but I think he could be an absolute animal next year for us, especially if slot is going.
We haven't seen the real Isak yet, hopefully they get him on them special inhalers.
18 Jan 2026 18:07:52
My guess is that Isak will come good.
That's my hope anyway.
He was the one player I was dreaming of us getting last season. imagine my jubilation when it happened.
And then add Wirtz and oh my.
18 Jan 2026 18:20:08
Its a broken foot! No footballer come back the same. when bone is broken. Finito.
18 Jan 2026 19:34:43
lol. Bones are easy to fix and recover from. It's soft tissue damage that causes problems. Often they come together (a bad break can result in ligament damage) but given that they expect him to return before the end of the season I don't think that there is too much to worry about.
18 Jan 2026 20:53:21
Sofa_Fan - He's had a serious injury, he'll be out till next season, exactly what part of that could possibly be "the best thing for hm"? He can't train for properly for god knows how long. The Sumer saw him training by himself for 3 months and he still wasn't match fit by December, so if he can't train properly for up to 6 months now how's he going to come back fitter? The club has to remain positive in these situations but the truth is nobody knows how exactly how well he's going to recover util the latter stages of his rehab.
ShipleyKopite - He did have surgery, which is pretty odd for a fracture, unless it's complex, which it shouldn't have been. Usually, surgery would suggest ligament damage. It's quite possibly a career altering injury. Personally, I think we've seen Isaks peak. It's going to be very difficult to come back from all this, not impossible, but I've seen players careers fall off for less. I hate saying it, but the whole thing had Torres to Chelsea vibes from the get go. I hope to God I'm wrong, but I found it strange we were willing to part with such a huge amount of money for someone with a lengthy injury history and the need for his minutes to be managed.
Keegans Perm - Fully agree. If we didn't have to wait for stat men to give the go ahead on everything, we could have had Olise in '24 and Semenyo last summer 100mil.
18 Jan 2026 22:11:08
Isak is class and will be a huge success. Form is temporary class is permanent.
The lad broke his leg it's nothing to worry about. He even walked off the pitch so it's probably a fibula fracture which is not that serious at all as it bares no weight. Just needs to heal and he'll be exactly the same as he was before.
He will be scoring 20+ goals for us each season for many years to come.
18 Jan 2026 22:31:24
People are quick to forget just how good Isak is. Under a different manager, when he returns from injury he'll be firing them in.
19 Jan 2026 06:27:28
Worst signing? Seriously? When he's been unfit and injured? I mean I respect your opinion etc but I think that's a bit unfair on the lad. The manner of his move is immaterial. We all wanted him regardless and we needed two strikers after losing both Nunez and Jota so what's the issue?
He was arguably the best striker in the league and will come good for us when fit and playing under a decent manager.
19 Jan 2026 08:02:09
Worst signing ever? Think El Hadj Diouf what's a word there. Isak needs time and patience,
20 Jan 2026 02:48:34
Isak also needs a set up and tactics to play to his many strengths which I assume was why we bought him, even tho none of this has been apparent thus far.
18 Jan 2026 17:33:36
I keep checking every hour for the inevitable of slot leaving and nothing is happening, please whoever has to bite the bullet do it now 🙏.
18 Jan 2026 18:06:59
Carra has arrived on the transfer page mate, if your looking for a smile this rainy Sunday evening.
18 Jan 2026 18:08:11
Check back every 2 hours then.
18 Jan 2026 20:46:05
Love it guys i had a feeling something was going to happen
Cheers.
18 Jan 2026 15:28:30
So City paid £20m and 10m in add ons for Guehi and he is getting 300k pw. So maybe that's a contributing factor in why we didn't sign him. However there is no excuse in not signing Jeremy Jacquet.
18 Jan 2026 16:48:16
£30m plus 300k over a 5 year deal is something I wouldn't do. That puts him on more than the best players at City and would of put him as our 3rd highest earner. Jeremey Jaquet Rennes want £50m which is double what I'd pay for him.
Semenyo I believe we pulled away as we got word Diomande wanted us. 6 years younger bigger ceiling and less wages. Although transfer fee would be huge.
{Ed001's Note - we had a lower salary all agreed with Guehi, we would not have paid him 300k.}
18 Jan 2026 18:04:38
I get that ed and we should of paid the 50m they wanted at the start of the summer instead of haggling for 15m. But if the player really wanted us why not just wait until the summer.
{Ed001's Note - because he has no idea who the coach will be then and if that coach would even want him. It was clear that Slot would not be in the role next season and it was Slot who wanted him.}
18 Jan 2026 19:32:43
That's understandable on Guehis part then.
18 Jan 2026 23:06:10
Ed1 are Man City not sure who their manager will be? Rumours circulating that pep will be leaving end off the season so guehi will be limbo at city unless he does well. Also if he had waited till the summer he would have had a whole heap of clubs after him.
{Ed001's Note - he wanted out of Palace now mate. It wasn't about the money for him, he would have waited if it was and got the millions extra signing bonus.}
