Hello all,
Bit of an update.
New contracts for Ibou Konate and Dom Szoboszlai are progressing well.
Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo are very likely to leave at the end of the season.
Yan Diomande has made it clear, Liverpool is his number 1 choice and he is Liverpool's number 1 target.
Price seen as achievable due to good relations between Leipzig and LFC.

Really positive to hear that Szobo and Konate are progressing well with new contracts. If we do go on to sell Gakpo and Salah, it would effectively mean we would need to bring in 3/4 new wide attackers. Plus whatever other work needs to be done around other positions or squad players.
Unless, of course, we plan to move away from the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system, but as we know from the Prem, having effective wide attackers is very important for breaking down teams.

That is good news. Diomande looks like he will be a serious player! It will be interesting to see who else we bring in if both Gakpo and Salah do leave. Is Fofana still an option, or will we go with somebody with more experience to help Rio develop? We appear to have been talking to Sallai, from what his dad is saying.
He can play RB, RW, LB & LW, but he feels more like an Endo kind of signing, in that he has good experience and can cover multiple positions, but is unlikely to play on a regular basis (unless covering at RB).

Well, if Gakpo and Salah are likely to leave, and presumably Chiesa as well, we will need 3 new wingers in the summer. I suppose a new Konate contract negates the need for another cb after Jacquet, but we will need a Robbo replacement, potentially a new rb, a midfielder to replace Endo, and another one to replace Jones / Mac Allister, with one of them definitely leaving.
That is a huge amount of work to do again.

Hope you've nailed it again, Carra. I'd be happy with all that, but would also like a more established winger coming into his prime, as we need one and it sounds like we're losing two. Plus, I think add Chiesa to this. Otherwise, unless I'm wrong, we would be left with Rio and Frimpong as cover (bought in as RB) and this new untried young winger.

I think it's really odd that after a clear and specific update from somebody who has proved very reliable in recent times, people start asking questions about other areas, eg in this instance CM and manager. Do people think that Carra would have just forgotten to tell us?

Lot of change. Chiesa just can't be at the club another season, so if him, Mo and Gakpo all leave I fear for us next season. Not to say they haven't been terrible, but we would literally be starting from scratch.

I think the English tax makes it a bit more of a bad deal. No doubt a decent player, but if he wasn't English, he would be circa £40-50 million. For our setup and the English need, it would have made more sense to keep Morton & Quansah - perhaps buy backs on those depending on who leaves.
