Only a year ago we were celebrating the title win with Slot. So many negative things have been said since, showing how superficial and game show-like manager succession is becoming. Do I think Slot has made good choices this season? No. But the success of our club isn't in its manager alone, it's in everyone getting behind the team no matter what.

The manager is included in that.
Can we stop advocating for high churn with the things we're saying? It encourages what's toxic in football these days.
We are not Manchester United, let's not become a team that has more managers than shags in a brothel.

Why is everyone posting like Jerry Springer or The Midnight Caller this morning? Remarkable.

Yes, the rat comment was way too much, but nobody can be happy with the way the season has gone, and the repeated remarks about Jota are beginning to really annoy me. Slot is the head coach, and, first and foremost, the prep, fitness, subs, etc. have been unimpeachably bad.

5

01 May 2026 07:23:08
The manager isn't just another cog, he is the fulcrum of the entire club. Slot has shown he is not capable of handling that sort of responsibility and, as poor as others have been, he has been the poorest of the lot. I think fans, who spend small fortunes supporting their club, have the right to voice dissatisfaction.

Trying to say "we're United" because we criticize a clearly failing manager is utter nonsense, and I don't know why done posters try to take some imagined high ground.

4

01 May 2026 07:23:55
We were all shocked that we won the title last year and, with the big summer, thought we should go for it again. Minimum was top three with a title charge. First 5 games, we were top, although most of us thought hang on, it's a bit open here. Teams figured us out straight away, and we lost so many games, with shocking player performances and the manager clueless at times.

We have seen, with great results this season, what this team can do, but the current set up continues not to keep it that way. For me, there is a need for change.

Ed01 - hope all is well?

where do you think Stevie G will end up managing?

Bit of a rumour down these parts that he might end up at Ashton Gate? I know Burnley were rumoured to be an option but apparently they're keen on Bellamy.

I don't think the Bristol City job would be a bad place to kick start his managerial career but it's not usually the sort of appointment City make?

Thanks in advance mate

Agree on the last bit Ed, could be a good shot in the arm for both though if it materialised?!

Thanks again mate

Morning all fellow Reds, Am up early for work. Just seen last night's scores, a massive well done to Crystal Palace. On a downside, won't that put a few more quid on the price of Wharton? Should we put in a bid for him?

1

01 May 2026 06:02:12
I'll skip him and try for Anderson, a long shot, or someone more defensive-minded.

2

01 May 2026 07:50:56
Anderson won't be coming to Liverpool.

I see post about Iask and how we should not of signed him them comments could not be any further from the truth. Isak never got fit because of Slot and his coaches training or lack because of that he broke his leg because he was not fit and as sharp as he should have been.
Under Klopp Isak would have been fully fit by the end of September.
Anyone who thinks all this trouble is anyone else fault but Slot is off there head.
Given players 3 days off before we play United is ridiculous even when we were light years behind United never ever would Fergy do that because this fixture means too much and he knew that.

But we have a manager that does not care one percent all he cares about is his wages and getting home to Holland whenever he can he is a vile rat πŸ€ that needs removing from the club before the plague he has infested destroy all the hard that Klopp did to turn this club around.

14

30 Apr 2026 19:26:43
Isak broke his leg because of a bad tackle.

14

30 Apr 2026 19:29:41
So, calling the manager a vile rat is ok now?

17

30 Apr 2026 19:42:29
We know that Arne's training methods are having an adverse effect on the team's fitness, but not a lot he can do about a broken leg or Isak not having a pre-season.

6

30 Apr 2026 19:53:36
I am personally affronted that Slot didn't dip every Liverpool player in that goo that made Wolverine have adamantium bones. For me, that was the last straw.

7

30 Apr 2026 20:06:00
Grino Slot as a manager has been poor this season but I'm not sure how that qualifies him to be a rat.

Criticise his management style, performance or record etc as much as you want but it's hardly worth getting personal over.

Just my 2 pence worth.

16

30 Apr 2026 19:19:24
Bit OTT with the vile Rat description grino.

12

30 Apr 2026 19:25:36
He broke his leg because Van de ven smashed into him. Resorting to name calling is ridiculous, vile rat?

13

30 Apr 2026 20:28:17
It was good of him to post a picture of a rat as well, because I wasn't sure what one looked like!

Like I said yesterday, I would prefer a change of Head Coach. This season hasn't been good.

However, I asked the question, if, as seems likely, Slot is still here at the start of next season, and he turns things around, are folk willing to get behind him? I certainly am. No one responded yesterday.

13

30 Apr 2026 20:37:18
Rats are actually very intelligent and very successful creatures.

2

30 Apr 2026 20:41:24
I'll still sleep at night if Arne stayed on, Rome!

It'll be what it is, & whoever is in charge, I'll be behind them.
He'll be under massive pressure from the get go, though.

2

30 Apr 2026 20:45:59
I had them under my sage green shed, last year, Ron. I had to do what was required. To be fair, they were easier to get rid of than our Head Coach.

2

30 Apr 2026 20:54:21
@Rome, I think that ship has sailed for me now. I doubt I can get behind him, I don't think it's about getting behind him, I just don't like him. I'll be behind the team all day long.

1

30 Apr 2026 21:06:18
That's fair enough, Scouse. Each to their own, mate. I've been giving this some thought. Has there ever been a manager who had his team winning games, playing great football, but a section of the support detested the manager? I'm struggling to think of one.

0

30 Apr 2026 21:07:11
I don't know, Rome, I'm a bit on the fence with that one.

1

30 Apr 2026 21:16:24
I actually asked the question the other day if Slot was in 100% how he would have done, because I do think he is a good coach, but he doesn't want to be here for family reasons, which I do understand, but he stayed because of money, but by no means has he given this club 100%, so if the leader is not giving that, how do you expect them below to give more than him? Even if they want to, he is blocking that with his choice of days off.

4

30 Apr 2026 20:57:14
I would like to respond to the main points he is a rat because he does not care about our club he has shown that by the time he takes off. He could resign but he does not want to because he will never get Β£6m a year at any club in Holland where he wants to be that's why he is a rat. As for the broken leg if Isak was fit Van der ven does not get near him after the shot. So yes I stand by what I said Slot is a πŸ€ because he is a low life robbing the club by his actions and anyone who knows he can't do his job we give it up like King Kenny did in 1991 Klopp did when they could not carry on Shankly did the same.

Kevin Keegan did it as England manger but all that Slot cares about is that wage not this club that I have loved like many others for longer than me and I have loved this club for over 40 years. Being not good enough but trying has always been good enough at this club we respect effort but that is not Slot the πŸ€.

5

30 Apr 2026 21:27:43
Given his lack of hair, does that make him a naked mole rat?

Slot isn't sneaking off without anyone's say so, which is a problem in itself but not one levelled squarely at Slot.

Calling him a rat is truly ridiculous and just an outpouring of hate for no reason.

7

30 Apr 2026 21:29:21
Hi Grino, I fully agree that the way Slot managed Isak's lack of preseason, which led to his initial minor injuries, all leading to him struggling for fitness. With you on all of that, and I agree, any manager worth his onions, let alone Klopp, would not have played Isak at all until he was fit enuff to play and get going

Klopp, or any competent manager, would have put him on a specific fitness programme with friendlies behind closed dorrs etc.

to get him on track, esp. since we were not desperate for him to play as Eki was doing bits early on.

Now, from there to calling him a vile rat is a bit much, IMO. I know his management of the team has been awful and deserved the sack months ago and should be nowhere near this team next season. However, I wouldn't call him a vile rat. That's a bit OTT for me. Just saying.

2

30 Apr 2026 21:29:52
I posted wrong there. I actually don't think he is a bad coach, but he is not in it 100%, what I find so much worse.

0

30 Apr 2026 21:50:25
Oli, didn't you call Slot a clueless knob a few weeks ago?

Your full comment below.

This is exactly what I posted in a thread today. For me, Slot sabotaged that game and put that team out to get slaughtered, cos imo, he wanted them punished for showing him up to be a clueless knob for the world to see at the Etihad.

7

30 Apr 2026 21:50:28
Just a thought.
If I got a job offer for the largest salary I have ever made, I would jump on it with the thought I could handle missing my kids and seeing them when I could like Slot. I'm just saying, maybe give the man and his family a little grace.

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - why? Because surely he should admit he can't do the job if it is such a problem?? It is not up to us to pander to a multi-millionaire who is failing, it is up to him to do his job properly. He is set for life, he could walk away, so why should we pander to him because he can't cope with it? He could drop the greed and go home if it is such an issue.}

6

30 Apr 2026 22:03:56
Once it's out there, it's out there, JK! Love your detective work.

4

30 Apr 2026 22:03:23
420 yeah but they could move over like all the players family's do no manager would have a player doing that.
It's not a normal job and for that you get paid Β£6m a year let's not kid ourselves would 99% of families move country for Β£6m a year no sh** they would 3 years for Β£18m but that's not good enough he wants to do it part time I stick by my words vile rat πŸ€ and just for Tome there is the πŸ€ twice.

3

30 Apr 2026 22:14:04
Cheers Grino, and don't call me Tome!

0

30 Apr 2026 22:23:21
All roads lead to Slot.

Give me a break.

The gymnastics to blame everything on Slot is small club mentality and embarassing.

1

30 Apr 2026 22:43:31
Thank you ed001 I maybe went over the top with the rat πŸ€ comment but he could walk away a rich man but he just won't out of greed not because he feels he can do better because he makes no attempt to change his effort.
My anger comes from how he feels he can treat us people work hard for a living and spend there spare money what is not a lot most of the times this day and age and he feels he can take the pi$$ out of the fans with his days off.

Is he fully to blame no them above could have stopped this months ago would Shankly have done this no because he loved the fans like they loved the club and passed that on to the players that 100% effort was the minimum you could leave on the pitch as the great man said If he had to clean a floor he made sure nobody had a cleaner floor than him Slots is filthy because effort is not there.

2

01 May 2026 00:44:21
Grino, man, get outside and touch some grass. At the end of a day, it is just a game.

Yes, this game can ruin our mood and our whole day when things go wrong, but to resort to being so vile about a manager who came in and won the league for us, say what you want about it being Klopp's team, but Klopp also was unable to do it with that team and it fortunately/unfortunately took Slot's tinkering with it for it to work, so some gratitude is surely deserved!!

2

30 Apr 2026 23:05:53
Ed001
Would you be able to walk away from his contract? The thing I know about people with money is they always want more.

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - that is not the point, the point is you are asking us to have sympathy for a man whose problems are solely caused by his own greed. And yes, if I was bothered about money I wouldn't be doing this.}

5

01 May 2026 06:54:46
Morning, Rome. The get behind Slot scenario: if he was left in charge: if he could get the team playing good fast attack minded football: if he could organize the defenders to defend: if he could set up a midfield that can be the engine room of the team: if he could get fast transitions from defense to attack: if he could concentrate on getting the entire squad fit and firing: if he could commit fully to the club: if he could establish a relationship between him and supporters: if he could play his best players in their best positions: if he changed his coaching strategy: then perhaps I could reconsider my opinion about him.

However there's an awful lot of ifs there and we all know about ifs and aunties and uncles. Anyway, have a good Friday, Rome, and all others!!! It's a BH weekend over here in God's Country, so the local beckons about eighteen hundred. πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ•ΊπŸ•ΊπŸ» United 1 Liverpool 1 btw.

0

01 May 2026 07:08:30
Morning, Shanklys Ghost, and fellow posters. Thanks for your detailed reply, mate. Like you say, there are many ifs. Enjoy the Bank Holiday, my friend.

30 Apr 2026 18:28:34
What I really can't get my head around, is Slot had four hard working skillful wingers at Feyernood.
His team were known as the Kings of the cutbacks because they scored so many of their goals from their wingers getting to the byline and cutting the ball back into the box.
He also expected a high work rate from both starting wingers and would substitute both virtually every game for the final third.

He has obviously abandoned this at Liverpool for whatever crazy reason.
If he does end up staying next season he needs to get in fast, skillful and creative wingers and get back to playing front foot and exciting football.

4

30 Apr 2026 19:27:01
Difficult to implement when our star man on the wing doesn't play that way. If Slot's staying, we really have to get this window right.

2

30 Apr 2026 19:29:51
We havnt got one fast winger. None of Salah, Chiesa, Gakpo or young Rio are speedsters. And the two starting wingers never want to hit the byline, they are all about trying to get shots away themselves.

3

30 Apr 2026 19:38:44
Does make you wonder how much is down to the assistant manager when it comes to Slot? This season, GVB clearly had a say with the tactics, given we adopted that Rangers horseshoe nonsense.

2

30 Apr 2026 20:09:24
Florian blaming the players for Slots tactics now. You have to be on the wind up. Because anybody with at least one brain cell wouldn't type as much nonsense as you do.

6

30 Apr 2026 20:45:26
WD40, its just constant drivel isn't it

4

30 Apr 2026 21:08:49
Who did I criticise, lads?

2

30 Apr 2026 22:04:52
Florian, you'd argue with yourself in a mirror if you could, n still be wrong on everything

4

30 Apr 2026 22:22:16
So you can't tell me who I criticised, Strom, can you? 😁 Saying what players are isn't criticising them. Salah and Gakpo are practically famous for cutting in to try to get a shot away. And, if you think any of the four lads are speedsters like a Minteh, this young lad Toure we're interested in or a young Sterling, then fine, you go ahead buddy.

0

30 Apr 2026 22:25:01
Pretty hard to do when your wingers are Gakpo, Chiesa, a child, and Mo, who decided to bungy jump off the cliff with his mega contract.

1

01 May 2026 03:51:42
Fm, so you're saying Slot is a 1 trick pony? He hasn't got wingers he needs for how he wants us to play, and has no plan b?
Last season he had wingers who both cut inside to shoot, but managed ok?

0

01 May 2026 06:47:06
So wingers are the source of our downfall? Utter rubbish. We had the winning formula last and the bald fraud opted to change tactics, reduce fitness and have zero ideas how to change games. They day he opted for a five man back line against PSG when we'd played it only once before I believe showed me how clueless he is.

0

01 May 2026 08:04:14
It wasn't actually me who started the thread, Yorkshire. The guy who did stated Klopp's team in Holland were known as the King of the cutbacks. Have you seen many cutbacks from our wingers this season? The OP also thought we needed fast, skillful and creative wingers. I think we have skillful and creative wingers, but no fast ones. Do you think we have any fast wingers? You're right about the wingers cutting in last year. The difference is, last year, the shots were going in.

On the one trick pony thing, I think when your widemen have been as bad as ours this season, it's gonna have an effect. What are we down, something like 20 league goals just from Mo between this season and last? That's not criticising Mo btw, before people chime in, he's the best player of the last decade. Time has just caught up. What it's shown, though, is that while he's struggled, no one else has been able to pick up the torch.

It makes a pleasant change to read a review that does not give a damn who the player or the manager is, and says it as he see's it.

30 Apr 2026 15:21:47
Anyone think in hindsight we should have bought Julien Alvarez instead of Isak? The amount of money we've spent on him means we now have to adapt our entire team and style of play to get the most out of Isak. We haven't set up around a 'goal-poacher' for years, and I can't think that any of the other top teams in Europe play like this, preferring a more fluid front three.

Realistically, will going back to flying wingers putting crosses into the box be likely to put us back on our perch?

2

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - Alvarez didn't want to return to England.}

12

30 Apr 2026 15:35:25
Isak will be great for us. His goal the other day and the West Ham goal just shows his class... We just need a manager to set up in a way that feeds him chances.
Any striker would look bad in our team with the lack of service.

13

30 Apr 2026 15:42:29
If you do it well enough, there is no reason why it couldn't, @stoneage. You don't want to just play a certain way, because everybody else does. If everybody plays the same, teams start to learn how to easily play against it, and it is the teams that do things a little differently that have an advantage.

I don't care if we play with a fluid front 3 or a target man, as long as it is effective and entertaining. I'd like to think that we would have the quality of players to play either way, as and when required.

3

30 Apr 2026 15:44:52
Honestly, Stone, no is the answer to that question. I thought Alvarez was good last night, but certainly nothing special. I certainly don't think he's better than Hugo, so honestly no.

3

30 Apr 2026 15:51:25
Isak is not really a poacher. He can run the channels and assist others too.

The issue is 1) he's not been fit all season, and 2) we cannot progress the ball quickly enough to utilise him or Wirtz.

7

30 Apr 2026 17:02:39
If Newcastle can get 54 goals in 86 games, with the players they have, there is no reason why we cannot see similar numbers.

The man thrives on crosses and through balls. We need to supply him with both, it's vital he builds up an understanding with Wirtz.

He simply cost too much money to not know how to get the best from him.

4

30 Apr 2026 17:24:12
I'd return him, (Isak), Frimpong too, and I'll give Wirtz benefit of the doubt til January.

0

30 Apr 2026 17:25:45
I wanted Alvarez over Isak at the time, he was certainly better suited to our system. I still think Isak can produce provided we get the right manager/wingers/system and he stays fit. I have no doubt in his quality, that's not up for debate. He'll net his fair share next season, especially if Wirtz finds form.

Hopefully all the pieces fall into place and he hits 25+. Hopefully.

Fly, he might not be a traditional poacher but if you watch his goals, 90% of them are close range "tap-ins" heavily dependant on delivery. And he's only had 11 assists IAC in the last 3 years.

1

30 Apr 2026 17:44:05
No top footballer will want to play this kind of football. This season has probably damaged us massively.

4

30 Apr 2026 17:46:01
Isak needs to get fit and stay fit next season. There is massive quality there, but he is a shadow of himself this season. He has no power whatsoever this season.

Even at his fittest and lethal best, he will not pull up any trees defensively, and that's putting it lightly. That's why we need 10 hard working players supporting him.

Wirtz is a hard worker and will be 10. Need 2 fast hard working wingers.

Of course, for Isak to justify his place in the team, he needs to be at his best and scoring goals. I think it is purely fitness with him. He needs to get fit.

I'm still excited to see fit Isak. I hope we get that version from next season onwards.

1

30 Apr 2026 18:22:44
@Scouse John, I'd reserve judgement on both Isak and Wirtz until they play in a set up that suits their attributes. Wirtz, so far, is a disappointment, and Isak, as we all know, hasn't been fit. As for Frimpong, he can go and go now. No system changes would make him successful whatsoever. imo.

1

30 Apr 2026 18:30:13
Wait till you see him with Yan Diamanda next season! And, if we also get proper pace on left wing, also he'll be a shoe in for top scorer next season, fitness allowing! Well, that's the dream but I just remembered who managed us.

2

30 Apr 2026 19:50:33
Who will want to play Slotball, I'd be going out of my way to avoid it.

1

30 Apr 2026 21:36:46
Pelican has it nailed on. Nothing else to add.

As for Wirtz, no player can function in the Slot system. How do we know that? There is no player that has gotten better playing under him this season.

So if that is the case, why are people saying Wirtz is a disappointment when not a soul in the squad has played anywhere up to their potential this season?

And if people are saying that just cos he cost x amount of money then, that is just lazy analysis.

If you put Cherki in this system, he will drown like everyone else, so again, where is the disappointment?

2

01 May 2026 07:06:11
I get all that about the team and so on so on, but I'm just saying, that for me, he is an actual disappointment, Oli, I'm sorry! My expectations for him were quite high indeed and up to now, unfortunately, I cannot find another description for him TBH.

Hopefully he'll prove his reputation and worth next season. Onwards and upwards, I say! Have a good weekend, Oli.
