Robbo, vg, The fields. May I ask is this Barcola transfer happening? As lots off posters saying it's not going to happen. Last thing I saw you said it's done and the guy from Anfield Agenda said it won't happen. What really is happening as nothing is being reported on Sky BBC etc. Thanks guys.

05 Aug 2026 20:46:50
Robb and VG both answered earlier today in the rumours section... In short, yes, it is a done deal.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 20:50:53
Must admit, I'm thinking the same. Another week is slipping by and I'm concerned. I'm chuffed some of the young lads are stepping up. But our midfield does concern me massively.

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 21:17:15
Grav7 Craig at Agenda has not said that at all, in fact, he said things are close on Barcola and to possibly watch for Friday. Either that is a lie or a misunderstanding on your part.

Agree7

05 Aug 2026 21:28:27
The guy at Anfield Agenda is a grade A helmet. Don't think I've ever gotten through one of his videos. Talks like he knows what's going on, but he's just reading papers.

Agree7

05 Aug 2026 21:33:26
Ashy, you're entitled to your opinion, but he has the 1st or 2nd most watched Liverpool Fan Channel in the World and rarely gets things wrong. He got Slot right after taking much criticism. If you don't like him, don't watch. So, try and not sound like a troll.

Agree8

05 Aug 2026 21:47:40
Kaiser, you are wrong. He even was going to resign from Anfield Agenda regarding Slot before he was sacked. This is the same guy who said we are 100% signing Jude Bellingham. And this is the same guy every night slagging FSG off as cheap owners who doesn't act in transfer market.

Strange that we spent £475 MILLION last season, shall I carry on? Or are you Craig from Anfield Agenda? 🤔

Agree8

05 Aug 2026 22:31:29
Yeah, I second that. He's a grade A helmet.
Why anyone watches him, I don't know. There's a few channels on YouTube putting out useful info on tactics and stuff, I'd rather watch that than someone making guesses based off what he reads on Twitter lol.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 22:48:59
I third that, lads. Most, if not all, of the Irish reds can't tolerate him.

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 19:20:57
Paul Joyce doesn't normally come out and say something is problematic and then being very specific, note other options. I think the Barcola is going to go to the wire of the window and we're in a bit of a mess.

05 Aug 2026 19:43:14
I think a lot of it also comes down to PSG getting their targets in. They are still negotiating over Godts and Ferran Torres, wouldn't be shocked if those 2 get done and they maybe lower the demands slightly.

Ken.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 19:44:56
No way Barcola happens for me. PSG seem to have a price that they won't budge on, and Liverpool don't want to meet that price.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 20:04:42
I'm not taking Joyce as gospel, it could be true, it could be false (Reeves and Mortimer).

If I were to guess I'd say we don't get him and instead we pivot to Rayan.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 20:14:32
The itk's have said it's done, I'm not worried. If it breaks down now, I wouldn't care, I'm not fussed.

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 20:15:48
PSG will definitely add Akhilouche and Godtz. That's Kavaradona and Doue as guaranteed starters for most games. And Akhil and Godtz to cover both wings. They couldn't even give Barcola enough game time last season. What will they do when they have 5 lads gunning for 2 spots? They will take 110-115 million once they conclude their deals.

Otherwise, they will get a fraction of that next summer when Barcola is into his final 12 months and even more peed off.

Agree6

05 Aug 2026 20:22:22
Is he any better than a Diaz not at £130 million plus? A bag of sugar is heavier than him. Other parts of the team come first, we have Rio, Gakpo, Munoz, (Hugo) for RW/LW.

He looks physically like "something the cat's just dragged in" (probably Vienna, Rigsby?).

The cat in Rising Damp got its name from "Goodnight Vienna", most apt for not signing Barcola!

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 20:34:32
As a famous virgin once said, Bond 'Come again?'

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 20:37:00
Are the mixed views on most of our proposed signings due to the results of what happened after last summer's haul, and lack of confidence in recruitment, or something else?

I'm sort of with John on this, the deals drag on that long, I become less interested.

I also don't think we're reinforcing the right positions or buying the right type of characters who'll help us win things and stay with us.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 20:43:30
I personally think it's worth doing at 110-115 in this market where a relegated Fernandez is moving for 80-90 mil. We were paying over a 100 million for Diomande anyway, who has a season under his belt.

Barcola is a two-time Champions League winner and a France national team regular. He has electric pace, can dribble and can press from the front.

Experienced, good age, and seems to have a good attitude. He could improve his end product, but let's stop pretending he does have goals and assists in his game, he does.

Can we stop the moaning? What are the alternatives? Minteh for 85? Rayan for 130?

Agree7

05 Aug 2026 20:45:33
We just messed up not sacking Richard Hughes.

Agree13

05 Aug 2026 20:56:05
Barcola is just as done as Diomande was about 6 weeks ago.

Not saying it won't happen. Just pointing out it's clearly not done.

Agree8

05 Aug 2026 20:57:48
It depends how big the bag of sugar is, 007.
You're right about how Vienna got its name though.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 21:18:56
Where has Joyce said this? Nothing on his X about it.

Agree0

05 Aug 2026 21:35:04
JK, how do you know it's not done? If Robbo and other ITKs say it's done, that will do for me, seeing as they were far more specific than the Diomande circus. Anyway, rumours are exactly that, some more plausible, and likely than others.

This site should be treated as such, but a fair bit of sniping on here, makes me wonder if they are actual fans, or trolls?

Agree1

06 Aug 2026 00:50:36
Imo, no deal is done until it is officially announced by the club. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the info shared by VG, thefields, Robbo, Ned, and Carra, but we all know things can change at a drop of a hat. As long as there is no photo of them signing the contract, it hasn't happened yet.

Agree2

06 Aug 2026 06:40:17
Distant Red, so anyone who has a different opinion to you is a troll. Go on then, mate, tell me what manes you more of an actual fan?

I don't believe it's done, because if it was, he would be at Liverpool and not still at PSG.

Pretty sure that's how done deals work.

Also agree with Drac, 100% appreciate any info that is shared on here. But people are allowed their own opinion and don't have to be sheep.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 15:16:47
Welcome to our new no 23!

Last worn by Diaz, before he got the no 7, but also worn by Fowler, Can and Shaqiri, as well as Carra of course!

05 Aug 2026 15:45:02
What/who are you talking about I have seen any news of a new signing?

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 15:56:58
Munoz to wear 23.

Agree8

05 Aug 2026 15:57:24
I was being deliberately vague to get this reaction, MoT (or I forgot to mention his name!)

It's Victor Munoz's number.

Agree5

05 Aug 2026 16:00:19
It's Victor Munoz.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 16:07:41
Ah yes, of course I forgot about him. Welcome Munoz, I get (playing style not temperament) Bellamy vibes from him. Welcome to LFC.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 16:28:38
MoT, I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 16:30:00
Nobody put a golf club in his hand, especially not if we recruit any Norwegian players this summer.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 16:30:07
Welcome, Victor!

Excited to see him add some more pace/directness to the team.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 16:35:13
Is Vic there?

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 16:45:26
Welcome, Victor. That's my brother's name, btw.

And that no. 23 (and that first name) suits you very well, my man.

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 19:48:42
Yep, Iron Man. In Department S.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 14:56:17
Was having a nose through players released last season and seen Adam Webster was released from Brighton. Played 20 games last season and ave of over 7 on futmob. Obviously not a long term player but at only 31 and plenty of prem experience maybe he could sign for cover while Leoni and Jauq settle.

05 Aug 2026 16:45:04
Futmob rating made me chuckle. Missed the entirety of last season due to a torn ACL during preseason, missed half the previous season with repeat hamstring injuries.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 16:46:34
Tomori is better than Webster, and I don't even want Tomori anywhere near LFC. Hard pass, man.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 17:27:52
Lool, Webster sucks, might as well have tried to get John Stones if we wanted experience to cover.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 19:03:49
Diogo Leite is available on a free, but I feel we need better. If we are not spending, though, I reckon we could do worse.

The team sheet for the last friendly game versus Como will be near enough to the X1 to start at Newcastle away 23 August 16.30. Sky Sports coverage.

The Anfield Como start is 18.00 hrs due to the Community Shield Arsenal v The Filth/Cheats, which is in Cardiff not Wembley at 3pm. That should give us an insight into the new season. I did have high hopes, still have? But quality signings are yet to arrive in key areas, midfield and defence.

Is Barcola an improvement on Diaz, not for over £130 million plus? Scoring goals is not the problem; the worst defensive record last season for the PL ever tells you the problem area, factually?

It's getting to the point that we have an injured back four not being fit for any friendly game so far: Gomez, Jacquet, Leoni, Bradley. (Endo, Bajcetic) That's weighing the club down. If it doesn't improve it will affect the season we have?

Agree0

05 Aug 2026 14:48:19
Could I just asked the eds, robbo, carra, VG and the field et all,

I think i can speak for most of us here when say a lot of us are frustrated by the lack of transfer activity with the glaring weakness in our squad as well as the feeling being left behind by some the deals are closest rivals are making.

Is the club doing a lot of working in the background regarding multiple transfers, or is it just the two they we are currently being linked with barola and mbaye?

I.e are we working on arnau martinez and Wharton to name a few?

05 Aug 2026 16:41:13
Basically, yes, things are being worked on behind the scenes. I know we are looking at CB/RB and CM, with enquiries for players like Konsa, Kounde, Camarra and Kone. Probably a few others that I'm unaware of in those positions.

Wharton is of long standing interest, but I can't see it happening unless Macca leaves.

We also previously made a tentative enquiry about Rayan, which could potentially be ramped up if Gakpo moves.

I'm currently not worried about the situation. Ask me again in 2 weeks time and you may get a different answer if things are still the same.

Agree10

05 Aug 2026 18:50:13
Thank you, The Fields. I've seen on here that many don't rate Carravinegar, Touchamany, Valverde, etc., so that leaves Manu Kone as the strongest French midfield candidate. What's your opinion?
He had injuries, but most were muscle related and only kept him out for 1/2 games.

I think he played with Hugo and Jaquet in the U21 French team, but can't be sure. At 50 m Euro, he would seem a good replacement for Jones or Macca, with left over cash for a RB.

Agree0

05 Aug 2026 21:35:32
If we recruited him, Camavinegar could go sour on us pretty quickly.

Agree4

05 Aug 2026 14:41:49
Just wanted to complain a bit. I saw several post replies today talking about Savinho. Now look, I don't want us to sign Savinho and I personally think he is a little good player who usually plays off the bench. To say he is absolute dog s*** or complete garbage is so incredibly harsh on a 22 year old playing for City.

He was brilliant for Girona and I remember some wanted him back then too.
Maybe talk about why you don't like him as a player instead of comparing him to animal feces pls? Tnx 😅

05 Aug 2026 16:11:38
Can't believe he is only 22. I genuinely thought he was around the 26-28 mark.

Quick look at his stats, and with 2 goals in 2 seasons for City, then that's a big question mark over him as a forward option. 12 assists, though, isn't too bad, but with Haaland in the middle you'd expect more assists.

What price is he being quoted at?

Agree0

05 Aug 2026 16:28:19
He barely plays, JK, as a starter anyway, mostly comes off the bench, I think, if at all.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 16:49:08
BeKind, City wanted him gone after his first season to Spurs.

And guess what? They still want him gone after his second season to this same Spurs team.

Not saying he is dog-crap (that's all OTT nonsense, I don't engage in), but he is not what we need. We have Vic Munoz now. Savinho is not needed.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 17:05:05
BeKind, just had a proper look, mate.

Last season, he hardly started in the league, 7 of 24 appearances, but he did start 50% of their CL games.

The season before, he started 21 of 29 appearances and 70% of CL games.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 20:06:31
Standing up for City reserves.

Ok, if it means that much to you.

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 13:34:04
@robbo @VG Do you know if Barcola is meant to be Gakpo's replacement?

05 Aug 2026 14:21:19
Macca implied that was the case.

'Barcola in, Gakpo out' was more or less what he said.

Agree7

05 Aug 2026 14:39:22
Blimey, MK.
Did Macca predict this all those years ago??
What a legend he was/is! :-D

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 15:28:48
Let's hope we get Barcola before we let Gakpo go....

Imagine if Gakpo leaves, and we end up in the same situation as Guehi and Semenyo...

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 15:13:44
Clay, the original Macca posted it on July 26th, 2026. The Eds confirmed it was him.

Agree3

05 Aug 2026 15:32:20
Macca posted the other day, Clay. It must be buried in the Rumours archives now but it was there and it caused quite a stir. :)

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 16:14:51
OK, my (light hearted) bad !!

Agree1

05 Aug 2026 16:50:27
Ah, Macca pulled up. Hope he's doing well.

To clarify on behalf of the ITKs with money in the bank when it comes to rumours.

Barcola - more or less done, just a timing now.

Mbaye - seperate deal not linked to BB.

Martinez - new noise today.

As the greats once signed off.

Morning Ed's and Reds,

I have a couple of questions about some concerns I have regarding the transfers and the players we're being linked with. I'm hoping the Ed's can share their expertise, and any posters here can offer their own insights too.

Right wing: A lot of the players we're being linked with for this position are right-footed. Is having left-footed players on the right (and vice versa) no longer as important, or is the "inverted winger" trend starting to fade? Over the last 10 years it almost felt unusual to see a naturally right-footed player on the right. Has football moved away from that now, with players being more adaptable and capable of playing either side?

British core: We seem to have moved on several British players who could have formed the backbone of the squad (Morton, Quansah, Trent etc.). I'm not sure whether that's more down to Slot, Hughes or Edwards, but with the discussions around Jones potentially leaving and Gomez seemingly nearing the end of his Liverpool career, do you think we should be actively looking to bring in more British players to maintain that core within the squad? I saw someone post on here the other day that we technically only have 1 spot for non-HG players.

Interested to hear everyone's thoughts

05 Aug 2026 14:19:52
I don't think there is a notable trend on winger profiles. However, there is a change in full-back profiles, with some clubs preferring fullbacks that are a) taller and b) able to invert into midfield. Maybe that trend has a knock-on effect on the types of wingers you might want in your squad.

In addition, with press resistance and press baiting being the anti-pattern to the gegenpress, you will get teams that are naturally set up a bit deeper at rest. You would then want to ensure your wingers have the ability to take on their defenders from a standing start, rather than running at speed into space in behind.

As for the British core - I think that is a big challenge for the elite teams. The best English players are extremely expensive to buy - Elliott Anderson and Morgan Rodgers are the latest cases in point.

Ultimately, the best way to solve this is through the academy. But we also know the gap between academy league football and the senior game is not trivial. Loans, sales, sales with options or having a multi-club model are some solutions. Rio and Trey are at a crucial moment in their careers. They need to take their chances.

The big question you then have to ask is whether you are producing enough good young players that are good enough to regularly play for Liverpool Football Club, a club that expects to challenge for honours every season. And if not, are you able to continue to buy the best ones at the inflated prices?

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 14:32:45
If you look at how many very good left footed RW players there are under the age of 28, it's very few and far between. You basically have Yamal, Olise, Saka, Mbeumo, Neto and Adeyemi. Only Neto is realistic of those options.

If you're prepared to take a hit on age, you could include Mahrez, Salah or Bowen.

Or you could look at the up and coming options who're potentially very good such as Minteh, Estevao, Conceicao or Savinho.

Personally I'd sign Neto, but I don't really care what preferred foot the new RW is. Mbaye is a top talent who Iraola can mold into the kind of winger he wants. A bit like he did with Semenyo, I suppose.

Agree2

05 Aug 2026 15:18:39
Some coaches gravitate to a style which is more linked to a nationality. So the Dutch definitely play a certain way, Arne believed in it, and the team was being constructed that way with more Dutch players.

England have a certain style which has evolved, but is still fairly direct at times and physical. That wasn't his style at all, really, so, legacy-wise, there's not much homegrown talent for Iraola to pick up on. There's the English premium as well, on top of the style point, which has made it difficult to get the English or British core.

For whatever reason locally, we're not producing any top drawer players recently.

Trent was the last real local talent at Everton or Liverpool, I think. We used to have a couple in both teams who were there on merit, although that equally applied to Scottish, Welsh and Irish, which have almost disappeared completely from the picture.

It's partly due to it being a global game where the clubs are almost like franchises which could be based anywhere, tactical set ups tend to follow the flavour of the year, and coaches and players are very transient.

Who thought long throws would come back around, so maybe we're due a winger revolution as well.

Agree0

05 Aug 2026 16:52:36
Mks, I would sign Mbaye before I touch any of the Estevao's, Savinho's, and most defo the absolutely awful Neto and Minteh.

Agree2
