So, as if this season could not get any worse, Konate is filming material for his long term contract extension. I can't even with this club.
20 Apr 2026 15:48:04
Would you rather we lost another saleable asset for nothing and spent £50m on a replacement whilst desperately trying to strengthen other key areas of the team?
He's not been good, but if that is £50m extra towards a Mo replacement then happy days!
20 Apr 2026 16:13:17
I don't really have a problem with Konate and Gakpo re-signing, yes both haven't been great but I don't think anyone has apart from D.S.
We had too many replacements last summer, going straight into the first team. In times long past a new player had to earn his place, rather than go and be no1 straight away.
20 Apr 2026 18:03:40
Gakpo signed last year.
20 Apr 2026 20:57:37
Konate isn't elite but any upgrade would certainly cost us upwards of £60m. 2 young defenders are signed to push both Konate and Virg next season, which can only be a good thing. Much greater priorities this summer, where money will be needed, so it makes sense to renew.
21 Apr 2026 07:08:30
I don't mind it because we need another CB anyways, although I can see the team going into next season with only VVD, Konate, Jacquet and Leoni.
My main issue is wages. We seem to be gifting wages like crazy. Gakpo and Gravenberch were not deserving of the wages they got, so that is my main worry.

Liverpool have put themselves in a good position regarding UCL qualification. The more recent performances have been miles better with the players seemingly actually playing with intensity and desire (something that has been painfully absent all season).
With UCL qualification a decent possibility, I thought it would be good to turn our eye to the transfer market!
What do we think of the below:
LB: Tsimi, or offload and bring in Raum of Leipzig
CB: Jacquet (Konate to resign)
RB: Anyone who functions
CDM: Workmanlike CDM who is a duel winner
CM: Wharton (I like his progression from deep and he'd be an upgrade on Macca)
RW: Yan Diomande (obvious choice)
Versatile forward who can play across the front line, Bazouma Toure has been linked.
I think the above is a very expensive window (again) however it has been heavily reported that Liverpool will be looking to add 3-4 first team players again in Summer. You could argue Jacquet is already one of those, but a starting RB, RW, CDM are also very much required.
With a bit more depth I genuinely think this Liverpool team could be really good. This season has been p*** poor, so let's finish the season strongly and look forwards rather than backwards.
20 Apr 2026 12:11:36
I know there is never any guarantees, but wouldn't mind someone from the prem who could Potentially hit the ground running.
Bowen as example, little older, and guess would depend on costs.
Gordon has been mentioned a fair bit, do really like Bowen tho, few factors such as age, do West Ham stay up and so on.
20 Apr 2026 12:33:34
I'd expect, only including players who've actually played for the men's team at least in a friendly, we'll see something close to the following (with a fair few going on loan of course). There may be some others who make the jump up from the academy, but these players we know are in the first team picture to some extent already.
Keepers: Ali, Mama, Woodman, Jaros, Pecsi
Right backs: Frimpong, Bradley, Stephenson, Mabaya
Centre backs: Virgil, Ibou, *NEW, Leoni, Gomez, Nallo
Left backs: Kerkez, Tsimikas, Beck, Chambers, Scanlon
Midfielders: Gravenberch, *NEW, Jones, Nyoni, Bajcetic, McConnell
Attackers: Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Morrison, Koumas
Wingers: *NEW, Gakpo, *NEW, Rio
Strikers: Isak, Ekitike, Wright, Danns
This would likely be very expensive. At an educated guess, Minteh, Diomande, Wharton and Jacquet (who all seem like legitimate and plausible signings) would be approximately £250-270m total.
Not many departures are expected to fetch much either. At a guess (all likely to leave permanently), Elliott, Macca, Ramsay, Chiesa, K.Gordon, Endo, Robbo and Salah would be approximately £80-100m.
I find it really difficult to see us signing any full backs. We already have loads for both sides and Gomez, Szoboszlai and Jones can all play LB, RB or both too. Feels like a huge waste of valuable funds that could be better spent on wingers where we really need some fresh impetus, youthful exuberance and actual blistering pace.
My main concerns are that I think we'll keep Slot (as well as Konate) and then sign a ball playing midfielder like Wharton. Personally I'd move on Slot and Konate and sign a ball winning midfielder like Joao Gomes.
20 Apr 2026 14:28:34
We simply have to sign a RB, MK. Frimpong and Bradley cannot be relied on - new coach and medical team or not.
By all means, get creative with someone like Oscar Mingueza on a free if money is the issue.
LB should be fine, as we can either go with Kostas, Beck, or Chambers to deputise for Kerkez.
20 Apr 2026 15:06:51
MK, we've already signed Jacquet.
You're putting a lot of faith in youngsters who most of us know nothing about, and a few of the ones we do know about aren't good enough. I personally think we need another RB and LB, as I have little faith in Bradley, Frimpong and definitely Tsimikas.
20 Apr 2026 16:23:37
That's a bit harsh on Bradley. He has been extremely unlucky with injuries, I would actually think the coaching staff should be replaced, players not fit, players having reoccurring injuries because of fitness levels, I mean, wow, did anyone notice that Isak could do nothing but jog around yesterday like he was in a training session.
4 touches until he was eventually hauled off. If he isnt fit enough to sprint and fight for that ball then he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team, and why, for the love of JC, wasn't a reserve player brought onto the subs bench, even just for the experiance.
20 Apr 2026 16:36:00
Maybe it is harsh, David, but he missed 150 days with 2 different injuries in 23/24, alongside the injuries he's had the last 2 seasons.
Like you say, it is harsh, but how many seasons have we put up with Gomez? I just hope Bradley isn't another one in the making.
20 Apr 2026 17:00:47
You cannot be expecting Ekitike to contribute anything at all next season. If he does anything meaningful next season, it is a bonus.
20 Apr 2026 08:58:12
I don't like what I'm feeling right now cause from where I'm sitting all roads point to Slot staying, there seems to be zero feeling in most of the media that he'll be gone and I really don't like it.
Another season of this, ticking off another year of my life for slotball would be depressing.
Let's hope Carras on the money cause the thought of it's giving me the fear!
20 Apr 2026 13:56:46
You're not alone, mate, it's really depressing to think about.
20 Apr 2026 14:31:18
I would ignore all the journos.
The fact that Slot was not backed in the January window, hasn't been offered a new contract, and that his request to bring Heitinga back into the coaching team was rejected should be enough evidence to counter the misdirection by the UK journos being fed by Tony and Neil on behalf of Mickey and Dickie.
19 Apr 2026 22:48:45
Shame we didn't bring in that Cherki. One of the best players I've seen in the league the last few years.
20 Apr 2026 00:10:14
He has been a very good, intelligent player, tricky, quick feet, excellent in tight spaces. It's starting to look like Plan B should have been Plan A all along, but I'll reserve judgement in the hope that Alonso comes in and gets Wirtz back to his best.
20 Apr 2026 00:42:54
Cherki wouldn't look as good in the system we are playing this season. Conversely, I think Wirtz would look amazing if he were playing for City.
20 Apr 2026 01:15:15
I don't think Slot is using Wirtz correctly. I'd play him on the left, where Coutinho used to play. I think Cherki looks that good, he'd work in any setup. I think, technically, he's in a league of his own.
20 Apr 2026 03:06:12
Dracred, what system?! No doubt Wirtz would shine in City's current setup.
I agree, Thiago, he produces a lot of individual moments which I think in itself shows an ability to perform despite what may or may not be going on around him, whereas Wirtz seems to be a lot more dependent on fitting into a system where his teammates are in tune with his style and actively looking to play through him.
20 Apr 2026 07:24:05
Cherki looks a real talent, and is exciting to watch. He stands out in the league as he's a bit of a maverick, there aren't many about.
Of all of our team, Rio is the most exciting to watch, particularly when he's around the edge of the box.
Not sure he's got enough raw pace or power to get by on that side of things, but if he adds a few more tricks to his game, I'd hope he can make it.
20 Apr 2026 08:20:41
Exactly my point, Chewy. Cherki wouldn't do as well in the "system" we are currently playing. City has a functional way of playing, and we don't, hence why Cherki looks good. Our way of playing is affecting all our players, not just Wirtz.
20 Apr 2026 11:12:42
Let's be honest, some of the best players in history would look dodgy in our team at the moment.
Not every player is the same. Cherki is a good player, but his attitude sucks. Wirtz needs time to be used correctly and in a functional team.
21 Apr 2026 00:29:36
Cherki looks great on YouTube because his highlights certainly stand out. His main problem has always been his poor work rate off the ball - something you can't accuse Wirtz of. Given our slow, turgid movement on and off the ball this year, Wirtz was always going to struggle in attack.
If we do get a new manager, hopefully he will bring a new style of play that will allow him to shine.
19 Apr 2026 22:33:20
Proud of that.
After reading Viktor's many many many defamatory posts about the team getting slayed in the derby, I would have taken a loss and no injuries at worst and a draw at best.
Will run home with the 3 points and a 7 point gap to 6th place.
Now we can muck around for at least 2 games and still be in 5th. :p
20 Apr 2026 00:24:51
You need to look up the definition of defamatory. There's nothing defamatory in saying we've been playing absolutely pathetically, or that the manager is clueless or we're soft as diarrhoea in defence and midfield, because all of those are true, and a lucky win in added time against Everton doesn't change any of that, and it certainly doesn't change that Slot should be sacked either.
He's just Brendan Rodgers with a slap head. For avoidance of doubt, to be defamatory a comment has to be knowingly untrue so as to cause reputational damage: maybe you should get yourself a dictionary before using words you don't understand.
20 Apr 2026 13:42:30
We were lucky to come away with a win. It was not a good performance, we were very fortunate Everton had a poor game too. We definitely can't afford to muck around for even a minute, never mind 2 whole games, what a nonsense claim. Palace next, they've beaten us 3 times this season, Utd after, if we play like we did today against those 2 we certainly won't be coming away with a win, we cannot afford to be within touching distance of Chelsea going into that game.
Vik, all too often he's overzealous with his word choice and under-whelming in his execution. Maybe you could spare an old Oxford English for the lad, he does try so very hard in all fairness.
19 Apr 2026 20:29:13
It's kind of sad that after winning the derby, most of the comments here are still about Slot out. By no means am I defending him or the job he is doing. But it is getting tiring, like the constant talk about Trump here in the USA.
19 Apr 2026 21:08:23
Well here's the thing. They both need to go. They are both destroying their representative places they work for. At least Slot isn't à grifting pedophile, that's something he can hang his hat on.
19 Apr 2026 21:24:45
Mate, don't come on here on your high horse trying to make other supporters feel less because we robbed 3 points from our neighbours - no wonder all the talk is about Slot, we are so poor and in this derby, you talk about looked like he was happy with a draw 30 mins to go. Does my head in when people come on slating others.
Give it a rest, buddy... Remember the saying "you're better than no one, but no one is better than you". All the talk should be about Slot doing one because he is turning fans who love Liverpool cheering probably cheering more for a Haaland goal than any of our performances this year.
19 Apr 2026 21:53:28
You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
19 Apr 2026 23:46:57
Sofa, if that reply is for me, there is no high horse. I'm simply stating that I come into this site for entertainment and to keep up over here. It is tiring reading about Slot, is all. I got off of social media here, because all you read about, one way or the other, is Trump. I don't have the energy for it anymore.
20 Apr 2026 00:25:54
Maybe you should smoke a blunt, 420.
19 Apr 2026 11:19:03
Again we are being linked with Adam Wharton.
Quality player but he is another midfielder who along with all our current midfielders bar Endo, needs a midfielder alongside him with energy, physicality and the ability to read the game defensively, to complement his qualities.
As I have said before a top class defensive midfielder will improve the team and complement all our other midfielders' strength.
We can all see it bar the ones that can actually do anything about it!
19 Apr 2026 11:17:37
So Slot actually gave the team and himself 2 days off after the PSG loss and before an important derby game? He's got be checked out surely that can't be just pure incompetence or lack of care?
19 Apr 2026 11:39:09
No mid week games left, so think how many days they'll be getting off now.
19 Apr 2026 11:51:45
True, so after today's game, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday off.
19 Apr 2026 12:00:52
I've said it many times. It's all down to how Slot and Peeters have implemented their "periodisation" program, which essentially means reduced training volume and intensity. They were credited for it at Feyenoord because apparently it helped to reduce injuries, but this isn't the Mickey Mouse League. Elite players need elite training.
19 Apr 2026 12:01:28
Slot will have plenty of time now to jet off back home to Holland.
19 Apr 2026 17:47:42
Yeah it's not Holland, and our squads are so much deeper with quality, so intense training is needed to compete at this level.
I do think that Klopp had an idea of how intense you need to be coming from Germany, and it did not take him longer than 2 games in the Premiership to realise it needed more. He pulled that face we all now and love, and said uff this league is even more intense than I thought.
Slot is one of them people that does not learn and grow, he thinks he knows it all and so will never get any better.
On top of that, all he wants is time off to go home to his family.
I do not care what anyone says, this league and football as a whole has dropped off, and we have a squad that should have walked this poor league and challenged PSG far better over pat two seasons properly beat them, but we are hampered by a selfish 🤡.
19 Apr 2026 18:17:19
Agreed, Grino. Eredivisie is nowhere near the Prem in terms of intensity, the fact that Slot is still giving players excessive time off just proves he genuinely thinks nothing is wrong and that we've simply been unlucky this season.
Did you notice in the pre-match presser he said a lot of our players broke physical output records against PSG?? The bar must have been set extremely low.
19 Apr 2026 18:40:20
Chewy I used to love to listen to Klopp press conferences when Slot arrived I carried on but now when I see him I turn over or just simply turn off.
I actually can't stand the man now I don't thank him for last seasons title I just think there is the man that thinks he can take his £6m a year wage from our club that I have loved for over 45 years I treat it like a part time job at Tesco's.
I would literally take any
Manger over that bald 🧑🦲 tw@
19 Apr 2026 19:07:41
I know the feeling mate, I watch every presser, it's painful. All we can do is hope he's gone this Summer, otherwise I'm gonna have to start supporting the local pub teams.
18 Apr 2026 20:09:09
Would you swap Macca for Fernandez?
18 Apr 2026 20:35:32
Enzo or Bruno?
I'd take either over Macca.
18 Apr 2026 22:08:04
Enzo Fernandez? The racist? Hell no!!
19 Apr 2026 06:32:32
If Enzo...no chance whatsoever.
Bruno Frenandes, any day of the week.
19 Apr 2026 07:17:18
Bruno or Mateus, yes. Enzo, no.
19 Apr 2026 18:19:44
The way he's playing this season I'd trade him for Gigi Fernandez.
