I started writing a thread about changes we need next summer. And the post was so long that I became depressed and cleared it all.
Too much has to change and well with good probability I can see next season being dross as well whether the manager changes or not. Does not mean we stick with slot and delay the inevitable but it seems that's what the bosses are thinking.
We need a CM DM RB CB RW and as it stands a GK (all first team) this window.
We can sell Macca Gravy Frimpong Konate (free) Gackpo and probs Vvd and start fresh with all old guard gone.
Well apart from Szobo I don't think there is any other player that deserves to wear the shirt at the moment.
04 May 2026 06:35:39
I think we need a rw and another forward. A dm and a rb.
I don't think we necessarily need a gk. I would personally keep Ali and bleed through Jaros, selling Marma.
I would then bring in a new fitness coach and get rid of Slot for either Alonso or Iraoni.

Left wing, right wing, right back, midfielder and of course a new manager for me is the priority.
Then a goalie if Ali leaves, maybe another striker because Ekitike is out so long. Then replace anyone else who leaves.
Wouldn't say it was a massive rebuild.
Agree1
04 May 2026 07:02:19
Ali might want to leave, and there will be not much we can do if he decides to leave.
Also, Mama is not good, so we def need a keeper unless Woodman is considered good enough.
And we def need a CB and throw Konate for free. Even if we keep VVD and Konate, we need a CB. We are absolutely dire defensively.

04 May 2026 07:27:33
RB, CH, DM, CM, and pacey, hardworking forwards needed.
But, all pointless and will change nothing unless the manager and his staff are replaced with someone who is competent, committed and gets the players fit and playing with pace and intensity.
Slot out.
Agree1
04 May 2026 07:30:20
Cafu, we have 1 new and 1 nearly new cbs, but a Gomez replacement, someone who can cover multiple positions, is needed.
Agree1
04 May 2026 08:03:54
If you have a manager who knows how to get the best out of his players' talents and knows how to condition the squad, then I don't think we have too many glaring holes.
I see right back as the biggest hole and replacing Salah.
Get the right manager in and there isn't that much that needs to be done.
Agree6
{Ed001's Note - agreed Ron.}
04 May 2026 08:52:02
Seriously, what are we talking about here? If you had given any competent manager the players Slot was given, he would have done bits. We signed the best talent on the market in Wirtz and he is playing everywhere but the position he actually plays.
Therefore, what would buying all these players change if you are gonna keep the manager who can't get the best out of the already very good level of talent (individually) he already has on paper?
Once again, sack the manager first and go from there.
Agree4
04 May 2026 09:33:30
Jury is still out on Wirtz, for me. Regardless of Slot, he hasn't done enough. Hoping for much more next season, whoever is in charge.
Isak is only one game away from an injury, and, as previously posted, we should never have bought Frimpong.
Been saying for months, I want a change of Head Coach, but I'm not convinced that will fix all of our problems.
Our recruitment last summer, which most of us were salivating over, now looks seriously questionable, which is obviously on Hughes. Another summer of change awaits.
Agree2
04 May 2026 10:07:39
So the signings we were all "salivating over" are now suddenly cr*p? I'm no fan of Hughes but it is not the signings. The work ethic has disappeared. There is no pattern of play. I honestly don't know how we're supposed to score. We're tactically a mess. That can only come from the manager.
Agree0
04 May 2026 10:28:35
I didn't say crap, Flidby. Wirtz hasn't shown enough, Isak hasn't shown anything, and I stick by my assessment of Frimpong. We shouldn't have bought him, he's a wing-back. We don't play with wing-backs.
Agree2
04 May 2026 10:32:58
The players have to take some responsibility, but the blame is almost solely on Slot. He should set the standards the players need to meet, but he hasn't even done that. He doesn't even do his job most of the time. A change of Head Coach/Manager won't solve everything, but it would go a long way to setting things right.
Agree0
04 May 2026 13:31:16
Indeed, Drac. I would never blame Slot for Macca throwing a dead leg at a ball my wife would clear all the way up to the oppo's corner flag.
That being said, the manager sets the tone for responsibility and accountability for players on the pitch.
If he can't be arsed to coach the team on a full time basis, then, like you said then, what that football are we even doing here?
Agree0
03 May 2026 23:00:02
I don't know about the rest of you, guys, but I believe the most obvious solution, the clearest remedy to all of our ills this season, is to have another holiday for the players and staff. I can not see even the remotest issue with that. I mean, every other club, whether big or small, interrupts their training time and tactical work in order to get kitted out, go shopping, and take on modelling opportunities.
I for one see no issues. Bring on the constant breaks. I have no doubt Pep is doing it, right now, along with the City players even the day before a match. Can't just be us, right? Right?
04 May 2026 05:30:39
100% Mango.
These are highly paid individuals.
They can do some light work in their own time, if they really want to.
Besides, if they haven't mastered the art of giving a f*** by now, then when will they?
Agree1
04 May 2026 06:12:45
Agree 100%!! I mean, they are professionals, highly paid, they can always sort themselves out before match day! This practice, tactics, intensity is not required at the highest level! After all, vacations, breaks, ads, modelling is what is the most important for a club to be successful.

For me no ifs or buts slot out take Frimpong and Isak with you. Frimpong garbage. What was we thinking letting Darwin go? At least he fought for the shirt. We used to have Sammy Lee “ master of the inch perfect pass”.
Now we have Wirtz “ master of the 3 foot too short pass”. Get your money back we’ve been bumped. It’s a shame Chiesa isn’t Dutch cos he would get a full game if he was.
04 May 2026 00:13:17
Frimpong doesn't really offer much at all, but for 35 mill, would argue could be a decent squad player.
Wirtz, on the other hand, offers absolutely nothing. Too scared to beat his man, always playing the simple pass. Honestly, if we could recoup what we paid for him, I'd be sending him to Bayern. We do not have the luxury of building a whole team around 1 player who so far hasn't shown anywhere near enough talent or desire to justify doing so. Worst player on the pitch for me today.
Agree6
04 May 2026 01:03:47
Frimpong's strengths don't suit playing as a fullback in a Slot team. It can develop over time, which means he'd need to stay fit enough.
I'd rather he play fullback tho, even if it is as the inverted type that Slot prefers. Because the intent is that the movements with the winger would be dynamic, so he would get on the outside.
But, in terms of starting at fullback, I'd prefer that so he has space to run into as opposed to starting stationary with the ball out wide.

I'm a bit cautious to judge any of our players until we get a head coach/manager who is committed to the job.

I'd rather play Robbo, Gomez or Jones at RB than Frimpong to be honest.
But, yeah, I'll reserve judgement till we have a different coach and settle team next season.

Wirtz is so far from our biggest problem. It's so clear he's been one of our better players this season (albeit, that bar is low). Manager needs to go.
Agree3
04 May 2026 06:21:48
What were we thinking letting Darwin go? Are you serious? The guy had no brain in his head, was offside 50% of the time and missed sitters for fun. He was a sort of loveable idiot but a terrible striker. You want Chiesa to get a full game? Why? So he can give the ball away and take the worst throw in ever taken, like yesterday? I get we are rubbish but this strange romantic idea that Darwin or Chiesa would make us better is silly. The only person who has left that would improve us is Jurgen, unfortunately, and he's not coming back. Selling Wirtz would be stupid as well, because then people on here would be asking for Wirtz back next season. You only have to see him for Germany to see what a player he is. I get he hasn't lived up to the hype or price tag but worst player on the pitch? Worse than Robbo? Who got caught at the back post for their goal? Virgil who was positionally all over the place? Konate whose idea of defending is pushing attackers in the back or grabbing them and hoping he gets away with it.
Macca who gave the ball away or mis-kicked a clearance for two of their goals? Gravenberch who did absolutely nothing defensively or going forward? Or Frimpong who fell over every time he got the ball? He was not worse than them. People are angry at Wirtz for not just winning games by himself as if a playmaker or number 10 doesn't need a system which actually makes sense or players to make runs for him. The midfield just all run forward into his space.
The ball takes too long to get to him, and by that time there is no space. I'd like to see him try to beat a man too and show some confidence, but every time we lose the ball we concede a chance because there is no midfield behind him and no shape.
Agree5
04 May 2026 06:46:02
I get that fans are frustrated with the new players, but let's be honest, the entire team has been poor, with only a few shining.
Salah - his worst season for the club.
VVD - not up to usual high standards, with some poor displays.
Konate - many were calling for us to drive him to Madrid.
Gakpo - so poor at times, fans thinking he's got something on Slot.
Macca - really poor season, weak in midfield.
Grav - back to mediocre player before last season.
New players have struggled, but given how the rest of the team have gone it's not surprising, & given that most of the players' form & fitness have fallen off a cliff you'd have to say there's an issue.
Had only the new players not been good you'd say poor recruitment, when the usually reliable ones are equally poor there is something fundamentally wrong with either training, tactics, the manager, or everything.
I'll reserve judgement on new signings. If, as we hope, Slot goes & a new manager comes in.

@Scouse, Frimpong didn't even play RB yesterday, so not sure what that rant is about. What was worse was that he played him at RW, which he never was and cannot play, all while having actual wide players on the bench he could have started.

@Brummy, You crashing out on Wirtz is just out of frustration, not out of what is actually happening. You have a manager who signed the best no. 10 on the market yet plays him everywhere but his actual no. 10 position. Wirtz has played as a touchline winger (both wings) and in the false 9, all positions he did not play for Leverkusen, nor for the German national team. Do you not see anything wrong with that? Or are you just crashing out to blow off steam, hence ignoring all rational reasoning?
You say he cannot beat his man.
What da football? Is Wirtz suddenly a winger/one v one demon like Rio, Chiesa or even Salah is? Man, if Wirtz is underperforming then maybe you should be crashing out at the guy who simply cannot get the best out of a single soul in the squad and plays him in every position but his own. You crashing out on Wirtz is just cringe and void of any rational and context.

I think good manager could get a lot out of Frimpong as a squad player. Frimpong needs his game simplified and direct. You don't leash a player like him or put too many thoughts in his head. Either go left and cross or go right and cross. If you have a shot, take it. Get back when you don't have the ball. I don't know what Slot is telling him to do but it's likely too many unnecessary instructions. Obviously I played much lower level but all the fast players I played with are better off with less instructions. Keep it simple and let them create havoc with their speed.
As for Isak, he just needs to get fit. And more supply by playing quicker. I do worry about the fitness side of things with him. I hope though.
The main issue with everything that I see is the ridiculous way we play. Possession based football is a buzz word that sounds better than saying you are a defensive side. It's the new park the bus. Parking a bus is more exciting to be honest. And Slot takes the absolute biscuit with the idea. It's painful to watch. Absolutely painful. I watch every game and honestly feel like I'm wasting my life away this season watching us play. Like Ed said, until he goes, judging players is pointless.
I hope Robbo is right and Iraola is coming. We sure as hell won't be unfit and boring under him.

The one team I hate to lose to, who’ve now done the double over us, after another demo of clueless gutless rudderless turgid boring football I’ve ever seen from a Liverpool team against our fiercest rivals. The definition of insanity "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" couldn’t be more apt for a manager totally out of his depth!!! I genuinely fear for next season if this clown is still at the helm.
😡😤 Please someone give me hope or else it’s going to be a s**** summer with nothing to look forward to. 🙏🤞🙈
03 May 2026 23:03:43
Taking Konate off was a stupid move, should have left him on and kept Chiesa on the bench.
This left huge holes in our defence.
1st half was plain awful, at least we had a go 2nd half.
Macca and Pingpong have to go, Pingpong offers nothing and Macca is not worth a place in the team.

Eds, do you think frimpong can recover, he seems a pretty horrendous buy from this season in isolation.
Is it the coaching or is he just not good enough?
{Ed001's Note - it is the lackadaisical attitude that stems from a coach who is only doing part-time hours. Sort that out and we will find out if he can come good, though I have to say if he does I would be surprised. I don't think he is suited to the Prem.}

I very much agree. He is quite poor.

03 May 2026 23:44:54
I'm not worried about Frimpong. He is homegrown and will always have his uses with that speed. He needs to think less, which he will do with a go forward mentality. Maybe not a first teamer, but I think he will prove to be a very useful squad player in the right hands.
Wirtz, Ekitike, Kerkez, Leoni, I fancy to become good players. All have work to do, but they'll get there.
The one I worry about is Isak. I'm worried he will constantly break down. He'll become one of those that will need his own unique training regime. Can't be pushed etc. He is a phenomenal player when fit, but I worry we'll only get him there here and there before he breaks again. All the others will be fine under new manager. Isak is the worry.
Agree3
04 May 2026 00:05:06
Frimpong is sound. I've seen idiots wanting everyone all's on here, Isak, Wirtz etc. instead of saying 'perhaps under a proper manager there's top quality players will work well'.

You can accept playing poorly if you know everyone is working their nuts off day and night trying to get it right. But the constant days off and new comments from Salah about culture and lack of examples for young squad to follow is extremely concerning.
My favourite quote from Klopp was something along the lines of even if we’re the inferior team we will work so hard and drag them down to us and beat them there. Everyone from the top to bottom needs a massive kick up the arse asap!
03 May 2026 21:45:21
My favourite quote/footy principle of Klopp was "you have to earn the right to play football", meaning you have to outwork and out fight your opponent before you can play the pretty side of the game. That, unfortunately, is what has been lost this season - we have a soft underbelly!

04 May 2026 00:08:46
I'm Slot's biggest critic, but if everybody is honest, we were unlucky today. Their second goal should never have counted, and Fernandeshhh was lucky to stay on the pitch. We weren't good enough, but regardless of Neville's rimming, United weren't great and there for the taking.
We were poor with an injury riddled side, and should have had a draw if the officiating of the game was done correctly. Same BS happened in the reverse fixture when United were allowed to do whatever they want and score while Macca was down with an injury.

3 very hard games left to get over the line, Chelsea, Villa n Brentford all have something to play for. We need one more win imo to qualify for Champions League, but I'm not 100% confident we can do it. Hope I'm proved wrong.

3 draws then?

Just a thought but maybe if our so-called head coach coached the players between games rather than going back to Holland. The players might be in better condition and not be so unfit and injury-prone.
Also maybe have a look at some of the academy players, Nyoni far better than Macallister right now, Will Wright is a striker that can score goals, Morrison has potential.
The culture of the club is being ruined by arrogant egotistical *****.
Edwards OUT
Hughes OUT

Great post 👏👏 100% agree. Get them gone. Look at what De Zerbi has done at Spurs in 3 weeks.

03 May 2026 21:42:54
You've seen f*** all about Nyoni to proclaim he's better than McAllister. That's borderline disregard for the little he's done for us since he's been here. You can argue about Nyoni needing more game time without dragging McAllister (who I dislike anyway and want him sold 😂). We do not even know if his body can handle the pressure you want him exposed to for starters.
Agree7
03 May 2026 21:57:38
I'm saying based on current form, Macallister has been poor, maybe not the only one either.
And for the academy team, and England u21, where Nyoni was best player on the pitch in the most recent games.
I've seen something which warrants more minutes.
It's an opinion, and we all have our own, which you can agree or disagree with. Just try doing it with a bit of respect next time, bud.

Maccas has been woeful all season. Using him is starting with 10 men. Today was the evidence that we don't need a Wharton type player, we need a DM, a physical midfielder. Don't need him to be a passer, we need him to win the ball, intercept, shield the defence, and pass the ball to someone who's more gifted with the ball.
