Liverpool, the ownership there ideally want to stick with Arne Slot despite huge public conjecture over if he's the man to lead them forward.

"The only name people seem to come up with is Xabi Alonso, but suggestions are that he's not on Liverpool's radar."

Interesting way of putting things from David Ornstein.

I can see Liverpool's radar from my kitchen window and can confirm that Alonso is not currently sat on it.

Wow… Sky Sports are reporting slot to continue as our boss for next season…. I’m really hoping they have also been given the same info just like most journalists have. I really can’t take him being in charge next season; my mental health won’t take it…

Agree9 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 14:09:47
The fact that they even mention it means that his job is under discussion imo.

Grateful to all the rumour posters, but I don't accept that any decisions have been made before the season is concluded.

I've just checked, and this is all coming from what Jamie Carragher has said "from what he's heard....". So, to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The headline is "Slot is Expected to remain..." Even sly sports are playing it safe.

Who is going to trust Carragher with any truth knowing where he works.

Agree5 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 14:24:28
If the club wants mid table obscurity or a relegation battle, then Slot is just the man for that.

Agree9 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 16:06:17
Ron, I tend to believe the same, I never subscribed to the idea that Slot was working a notice, makes about as much sense as crossing the channel in a boat full of holes.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 17:13:53
I fear he will be, so obvious how this plays out, Alonso will go elsewhere. We will start next season with Slot, nothing will change, then it will be if only.. every fan can see it, it's embarrassing.

Nobody is going to say anything until a champions league place is a certainty, or not.
It will be interesting.

Thank God we have Carra, The Fields, Robbo, VictorG, Ned etc on here for sensible news bulletins.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 13:50:40
Ed001 don't know how accurate it will be but sky sports news reporting it understands that Arne slot will be in charge next season as they close in on champions league place.

Agree0 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - no idea, I don't watch Sly Spurts News.}

21 Apr 2026 14:02:49
Ed001 I hope Robbo is right with his post earlier on and Slot does not want to carry on and the club don't want him too. And it's just the club spinning nonsense in the press to keep things sort of calm till the end of the season to claim champions league football.

Agree5 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 13:43:42
Sky Sports reporting slot staying for next season.
Are they taking that from Carragher last night and spinning
It?

I must admit to not really seeing much of the lad... but talk of him being Salah's replacement... is he that good or have the potential to be? We've been so blessed with Mo, and to think we've just happened across his successor and we're going all in on me worries me.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:22:36
Absolute priority to get this guy in. He is some player already, and will be very special if he keeps on developing.

Hopefully Eddie/Hughes get this done.

I see that Plettenberg was stating that on X, Robbo. Cheers for the update.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:32:03
@Aquilaniisgod, (what a wonderful name, by the way) I have only seen highlights and he looks very good in those. However, that's not a good metric. However, I read an article once on The Athletic (or someplace), where they were talking about how RB Group insiders consider him the biggest talent they have seen in their group of teams apart from Haaland.

Given some genuinely good players have come from there, it is high praise. I hope we sign him also because he is a Liverpool fan due to his dad. With his speed and skill, he will fit in perfectly.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:37:59
Diomande looks like an extremely promising player.

However, at 19 with only 40+ appearances at top flight football, it's a very small sample size for the price tag of £87mil.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:40:44
The fact that Red Bull are stating that he could be the best player to ever come through their system suggests he has definitely got something about him.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:48:14
Cheers Robbo. Good signing at the right price.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:54:32
Really like the look of this one. Comfortable on both flanks (seems to favour the right, which is rare), dribbler to help against low blocks but also a carrier for transitions. Has the physical attributes that the likes of Sancho lacked when making the transition to the prem and probably even someone as good as Adeymi might fail to get the big move. Also declared his love for Liverpool which is always an extra tick. I can see him lighting up Anfield. Most likely the reason we didn't follow up on Semenyo - 7 years younger and higher ceiling.

I've one question for folks here. If he were to take up the right flank and say we don't go for a Wharton in midfield, would you be slightly worried about the lack of left footed dynamic? Not only for inswinging setpieces, but more so for looking into a low block. I think you need someone in the team to create that angle. Am I overthinking it? Or do we smash the transfer window again and do Olise and Diomande lol.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:03:04
Cheers, Robbo.

Makes a lot of sense if we can get a good price and that the dispute he's having with his former agency doesn't impact the transfer.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:29:13
I'm sceptical about talents from the Bundesliga.
Olise looks like a world beater in that league, 12 months ago, no English team was in for him.
Then there's Jaden Sancho.
I'm not going to talk about Wirtz.

It's too polarising.
Keita - excelled in Bundesliga.
Karius - 2nd best keeper in Germany, a total dud in England.

The price is too rich for me for a talent from the Bundesliga. Let someone else take the risk.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:40:44
Ron Keague, I'm going to agree with you most of the way, you could have said it better about Olise 🤣 I'm not even going to mention Diaz with the sudden jump in goals+assists.

That is not to say players from there are not going to hack it here, Keita was a good buy, he was just too injury prone and I'm too sure that age was 😉(I don't want to get into trouble).

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:44:15
He does look special to be fair, Ron K.

Let's not forget that we did nab Firmino from the Bundesliga and he arguably defined the whole Jurgen Klopp era as the team was built around him.

Agree7 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:54:10
I am a little worried about this... Alonso doesn't play with wingers, is this another signal that the club are going to stick with Slot?!

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:58:48
Half agree with you there, Ron, although I'm not sure why most of the prem weren't in for Olise to be honest. My main concern with him was his injury record, and maybe that's eased by playing in a less intense league, but even at Palace he was class.

But yeh it's been hit and miss, probably more miss than hit, but there are a lot of gems too, Bobby obviously the main one, Heung Min Son another, KDB (even though he went there after Chelsea), main challenge has been the German ones rather than the foreign imports into Germany, but Keita one still haunts...

although I'd probably say Keita, ability wise, still wasn't a bad player, just was made of glass, so only showed glimpses... also a lot of rumours of having a bad attitude.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:59:11
Graham, Alonso played wingers at Real Madrid every game.

He does not have a set style of play.

Agree6 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 13:03:49
He is so young and talented. If he develops his off the ball work (which needs a lot of development) and a little bit of end product work, he could become an animal.

I fear Slot is the wrong manager to develop him correctly. Hopefully, that won't be an issue.

Iraola would turn him into an absolute world beater.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 14:49:53
Chelsea, United and Newcastle were all very keen on Olise at the time he joined Bayern, but he wasn't so keen on them. Apparently he has his head very well screwed on and didn't fancy playing for any of them, given the varying degrees of bin fires at each of those clubs.

As for Diomande, he's not remotely comparable to the likes of Sancho, Diomande was offered absolute bags of cash to go to Chelsea before he was 18 but he turned it down as he wanted to play and not be a chattel to be moved between feeder clubs or sitting on a bench collecting splitters, the kid has a good mentality which matches his unlimited potential.

The fact he's barely 19 and is bullying grown men week in week out is reason enough to think he can step up. Personally can't think of a better option than him.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 16:37:36
It's some front line when Ekitike returns, Diomande, Isak and Ekitike plus Wirtz as creator. There's also Gakpo and Ngoumha. Pace strength and trickery.

It's some front line Red Jones when Slot isn't in charge of them any longer. Until then it'll remain substandard regardless of names on the team sheet.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:00:10
I don't know if there's anyone in the know out there, but I really could do with some reinforcing that Slot will leave.

I know it's already been said by people "ITK", but there's been too much noise in the press about him staying and I think I speak for most others in saying I could do with someone telling me that I'm not going to have to watch this again next season.

Yours sincerely,

A Worried Liverpool Fan.

21 Apr 2026 10:10:22
I feel the same, but Carra has already been on recently to suggest it will still happen, and then got abuse from some, so I imagine he might be a little hesitant about posting again if he's going to get abuse by some again!

(If you do read this, Carra, feel free to give another update to make us all feel better lol).

Slot doesn't want to continue. The club doesn't want him to continue.

That's the situation.

Agree31 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:30:09
The main advocate that Slot was 100% staying, and maybe where Jamie Carragher and Co have hung their hat, is Ornstein, who also said about 2 weeks again Konate was nowhere near signing a new deal and at an impasse. Not saying it will turn out he is wrong, as he is a mouthpiece, a lot of the time, for Edwards/Hughes, but his word is not gospel. It does feel, in general, there has been a turn in the narrative, and more and more likely Slot will be here next season, especially with his wording in press conferences on how they're building/planning for next season.

Maybe there is more to the rumours Alonso wanted some say in transfer dealings and they did not want to allow it, or maybe they're happy to take a risk on another season, and either way Luis Enrique will be happy to take the reigns once his contract ends and Slots.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:37:13
They're not going to sack him if there isn't a better replacement available.

The replacement has to be willing/want to come to LFC.

The replacement will have to agree a structure to work within.

Until all of it aligns they're going to stick with the narrative that Slot is staying.

I think a lot will depend on Iraola, who I think will be #1 choice of Hughes/Edwards for several reasons.

If Iraola can't be persuaded, then maybe they do stick.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:41:09

Ornstein hasn't been on the money with us for a while, ever since the bizarre Kvara link in January last year. Think he puts out whatever Edwards and Hughes ask him to, and understandably they want to keep things calm for now.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:31:01
It's concerning me how agitated 'fans' on this site are becoming.

It's a rumours site at the end of the day, if someone hears or is told something - they pass it on.

Nobody (as far as I know) is directly linked to the decisions within the club here, it's all through a source or more from the club itself.

The source I used before they left the club wasn't directly involved with deals/transfers but part of their role was to process 'paperwork' in relation to payments - but they worked alongside others that worked with others and so on. Wires will get crossed, wires will sometimes get cut - doesn't mean the info that's passed on is false it's just an ever changing scene. The Guehi deal in the summer is a great example, I got told it might not go ahead in the afternoon and passed it on here. But other 'ITKs' were claiming it was a done deal - just means we get info from different sources.

Now I have a new 'source' but they're not directly involved in the club, but do on occasion come into contact with some people from Liverpool and other clubs across Europe - the info isn't as reliable as my best guess is, in these gatherings people aren't going to pass on scoops.

Anyway, it's a frustrating season, let's not take it out on each other when things don't come to fruition - Eds you're doing a stellar job.

Now let's get behind the team to finish as high as we can and give Mo & Robbo the best send off we can with the current situation.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:48:27
I absolutely believe the info from Robbo, Carra, VGD, Ned, etc, much more than what comes from journos. I 100% believe Slot will not be the Liverpool manager next season.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:50:30
Hi Ned,

I think the agitation is not so much the contradictory reports that get posted, more the thought behind the possibility that Slot could still be here when there's glaring issues that everyone of us can see!

Thankfully Robbo has calmed my nerves a bit! lol.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:00:12
What about the follow-up rumours that are basically saying that certain people are leaving due to Slot. Surely, if he won't be here next season (I pray this is true), then why would they need to leave?

They only need to wait to the end of the season to see who the new manager is, what plans he has for them, and make a decision then.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 12:14:43
Call me deluded, but I will interpret the situation from the actions/non-actions rather than the propaganda the club pumps out.

1. He was not backed in the January window.
2. He was not allowed to bring Heitinga back into the coaching fold.
3. He has not been offered a new contract.

Stay deluded like me. :)

Evening Eds, what are the chances of us going after Bowen if West Ham go down? Cheers Ladz

Agree0 Disagree9

{Ed001's Note - probably somewhere between zero and none. Unless Bowen decides to push for a move, the Hammers will not look to sell him and he wouldn't be cheap.}

21 Apr 2026 10:18:17
Good player but probably too old for our buying method.

Fernandes looks good. I watched him again last night, and his passing range impressed along with his tenacity. Would be a great addition.

Gomes from Wolves would also be a good addition.

Agree6 Disagree0

Bowen is what he is. A good Premier League player who would be a great pick up for a mid-table or Europa League club. He's never good enough for a team looking to win titles.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 11:14:45
I bet they thought the same about Gary McAllister on his day...

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 14:38:57
Chicken, I have to disagree, mate. Bowen would thrive at a top club. If he can deliver good performances in a relegation threatened team, I think he could put himself about for a top 6 team with better players supporting him. I like him, and we could do with honest players like him at the club.

EDS, I have just read on Sky Sports that Carra now believes that Slot will stay for next season! This is a disaster - what possible reason could they have to retain such a poor manager?
Thanks to everyone for a great forum.

Agree5 Disagree29

{Ed025's Note - sky sports Carra will say things to justify his existence as a pundit Phil, i prefer to listen to our Carra mate who has provided some great info for this site...even if things might change..

21 Apr 2026 07:05:16
People said the same in the summer of 2015.
The reason was 'they were waiting for their number one choice to be available - Jurgen Klopp'.

There is no managerial window, maybe there should be, so Liverpool can sack a manager when the time is right and the best replacement is available.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 08:02:15
Carragher shouldn't even have a job on TV after what he did. It's amazing how quickly all his pundit mates seem to have forgotten that.

It's an extension of the saying 'never meet your hero's'. With the advent of Sky and it's 24 your coverage, everyone having a mobile phone, and all aspects of social media. Never before have we known so much about people we don't know.
That's why we adored footballers of yesteryear, because we got filtered gossip via a newspaper or magazine which painted the perfect picture.

Now someone's opinion is forced on us, and anyone who's paid to have an opinion on everything, well, some of it is going to be s****!

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Ally McCoist as a pundit.

Agree7 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 09:57:19
I like him too, @JK - he knows his stuff, gets his message across in a way that's easy to understand and he has a nice sense of humour.

Carra and Gary remind me of Spitting Image.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:16:14
I hate listening to Mc Coist. Talks utter rubbish.
This is a man who could not make it in the old Division One and played in a farmers' league, commentating on elite Premier League players; he was never at that level.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:42:04
Don't need to be an "elite" player to be a good pundit, Albey.

McCoist is good because he is not up his own rear, like a lot of them.

The current batch of ex-player pundits are all pretty poor, to be honest. There isn't many that actually talk a good game at all, but they are there because of their history in the game.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:44:49
Albeydered, I don't think you have to have played at the Premier League level to be able to comment on it. There are some pundits who did, for example (Rooney, Owen, Ferdinand, McManaman etc), who are boring to listen to as well as totally clueless. Being naturally gifted at football doesn't mean you are a good public speaker, analyst, commentator or presenter.

McCoist does my head in because he's so biased against Liverpool. I remember in the FA Cup we won a game 4-1 against Barnsley and he picked 3 Barnsley players for his man of the match. After a bit of pressure from the other commentator he replaced one with Curtis Jones.

How a team can get battered 4-1 and a pundit try to claim they had the better individuals on the day is baffling. I listen to him on the radio and he's just a loveable clown. His actual analysis is horrendous. That's not because he didn't play at that level though.

Jurgen Klopp played his entire career in Bundesliga 2, but I'd dare anyone to say he's not qualified to talk about the elite level of the sport. It means nothing. My favourite ever commentators are John Motson, Sam Matterface and Peter Drury. None of them ever played pro-football but I'd rather listen to their analysis than literally any ex-player I've ever heard on commentary.

Agree6 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 10:54:17
Can't stand listening to or seeing Carragher on Sky Sports! The volume goes right down when he's talking.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 13:05:38
Sorry to disagree but Ally is a tremendous pundit.

His breakdown of movements of players, why they should have run inside not outside, what he'd be expecting from a cross/from a centre forward run from a cross, even to how he'd hit the moving ball going toward the byline so the trajectory took it inward, is fantastic.

To say teams losing 4-1 got battered isn't necessarily correct either. There have been a few games where Liverpool have been dominated in my lifetime and come away with wins because the other team is chasing.

We all know scores can flatter teams.

Particularly, thinking back to Fulham Europa Cup run in 2011, they would sometimes get battered an entire match and then simply switch to 4 up front and change the tie with 15 left.

Barnsley came out swinging, Ally said he wanted to give them MOTM because they didn't sit back and hold as expected but came to play football and they often got it throughout midfield with absolute ease while they chased ghosts. Some poor finishing and defending let them down, but their midfield battered ours at times.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Apr 2026 13:15:48
I used to enjoy listening to Andy Townsend when he was an analyst / co-presenter a couple of years back.

His analysis of the games that he did was really good... and now he's a commentator, and I can't stand listening to him, as he always just backs up whatever decisions the officials make (I'm pretty sure they are told to tow the line), he doesn't seem to give his own opinions any more.

Owen Hargreaves was another that I enjoyed listening to, but he doesn't seem to feature as much any more.

Sometimes it's just better to watch without the commentary... if only there was a way to cancel out the commentary and only hear the fans...

20 Apr 2026 21:06:51
Premier Injuries (the physio room) suggest he could be ready for the weekend, just not likely (25%).

Hopefully it's not multiple weeks, otherwise we need to hope that either Woodman or the team can adapt to the others' build-up style. I don't know if we can sustain 90 minutes with that level of discord.

He made a good save and a few decent recoveries, but he and the defence could not seem to get on the same page about his involvement in build-up.

We need a result against Palace to claim some flexibility against United, Chelsea and Villa. Palace always seem to cause us problems though, without any of our encouragement.

I thought Woodman was alright when he came on for us. A bit of commas issue between him and VVD, but he seemed calm each time and didn't really panic. If it's just a few weeks, I don't think it'll be much of an issue if he fills in.

Willing to go with others that have seen him more, I confess Sunday was the first time I've seen him play.

I don't think he did anything wrong exactly, just the defenders kept on giving him the ball when it appeared as though he wanted nothing to do with it.

Could be the circumstances of him coming on, could be the pressure of the derby, I don't know. Just hope it doesn't cause us more problems, beyond those we already have!

Mama took the full body weight and force of another professional to his knee, that player wearing studded boots at the time.

Very true Ed25.
Maybe the balls in England are heavier than those in Germany

He could well be back next weekend. Chances are he will miss one game based on medical advice.

{Ed025's Note - i hope the doctor tells him to put his boots on the right feet this time WDW.. :)
