I must say I'm pretty happy with the Transfer Window; I think FSG backed the management team (£20m+) is not a bad outlay.

Coutinho looks like he could be a real asset to us; I like that he can beat a player but also has good vision to pick out other players (with Suarez and Sturridge and their movement then this looks potentially good),

Sturridge has settled in well; wonder if he will get more boo's than Suarez on Sunday? But who cares hope he scores the winner.

Managed to get rid of some players on big wages that were not (and likely not to be) playing regularly.

On top of this (and I know talk is cheap) Suarez talks of his love for the team and city and says he won't leave - we'll see but its good to hear.

Henderson, Downing and Enrique are showing that they are better players than last year.

Stevie G is playing really well.

Lots of youngsters in and around the 1st team.

Not much dead wood left if at all.

West Ham alledgedly say Carroll stays (if Carroll agrees).

FSG not dancing to Blackpool's tune and paying over the odds for players.

We're playing some good football at times, need to improve this and the results but i'm very optimistic.

Can see us maybe losing 4 players (Reina, Skrtel, Coates and maybe Downing) in the summer but all have resale value and replacements possible; may even do well out of that and add 1 or 2 to the squad with the youngsters being a year older (and hopefully Kelly injury free).

Good result against City on Sunday and I think that will be a great start to february and the rest of the season (Aresnal, City and Utd all played twice so hopefully we can get start putting a run of results together).

We've all wondered who could eventually replace Gerrard, giving our opinions and who we think would be suitable. But really, I don't think we'll ever find a replacement. He's one of the best to don a Liverpool shirt, his dedication and love for the club is known throughout the world. Its been a privilege watching him, and we will always talk about his ability long after he hangs his boots. It'll take something special to fill that void. Hats off to our Captain.

Jp mate no one can replace Gerrard but different players bring different quality to contribute to team success.

We should never think someone to replace Gerrard because that's never going to happen we should bring someone who can play his position and improve us that's what matters mate rather then thinking someone to replace him

Also Carra lets not forget him.

Reusch.

Jack wilshire

Strootman would be worth a try.

Mantis

I agree he can't be replaced ever - but Rossiter in the Academy looks good to take that position

Why on Earth would Wilshere go to Liverpool?

AJH

Why on Earth would Wilshere stay at Arsenal?

kidmillions

We had this problem when Souness left in 84 we never replaced him but we got in a Danish lad who in a very diffrent style let us carry on with out Souness his name Jan Molby so it can be done jan was no Souness but he surficed Stevie is with out doubt a unbelivable talent that comes a long once in a generation and I thank god he was a LFC player but at Liverpool FC we have the brightest stars come and go but we have replaced them in one way or another but I do believe Stevie has a few more years to go before the six inch nail goes through his boots

When Stevie hang's his boot's up that kid Rossiter will be coming to the for! So there's his replacement!

I am clueless when people/media term LFC as one man team. earlier it was Torres now its Suarez but what about:

1) Barcelona without Messi

2) R. Madrid without Ronaldo

3) man united without RVP

4) A. Madrid without Falcao

5) Swansea without Michu

6) NewCastle last season without Ba

Nobody knows who's the second highest goal scorer in these teams rather nobody gives a s**t! So why LFC is mentioned as One Man team!

All the great players/strikers are drivers for their teams and they will do it wherever they play like RVP at Arsenal or Man U.

Strikers are meant to score goals and in modern football not much 4-4-2 is played but more a 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3 so Central Striker/Lone Striker is bound to grab headlines! Why to assume that club will collapse if that so called One Man is gone/banned/injured.

Indian with Red Heart

Fans say it for banter, they don't mean it. If you take the key player, as you have said, out of any of the top teams in World football they will struggle. Remember that Liverpool was a 2 man team of gerrard and torres, then alonso and mascarano leave and we were screwed.
derryred

02 Feb 2013 00:30:16
Indian mate the reason is if any team plays against us they will only be worried of Suarez or maybe Gerrard, teams won't be worried of Sturridge or Allen or Borini or sterling because they haven't earned that Right or reputation to frighten teams like Suarez but if you see other teams they have 3-4 players who have earned right or reputation to frighten teams.

Example Manchester united van persie might do all work and is the main reason why they are at top but they have got players like

Rooney who has massive reputation in Epl and has won trophys for united before persie arrival

Nani might not have the best season but again have earned reputation to frighten teams he has won many matches for united

Chicarito again has scored goals whenever played or whenever united are in trouble he always rescues them.

Main reason is anyone playing for united is deemed world class because of red nose they always win titles and have been doing it for 20+ years so its very hard for pundits to question their team or call them one man team.

Footy is all about winning trophys once you win trophys everything gets cover up if you see fergie career he has done lots of mistakes and has spent a lot of money to achieve success at the sametime he has wasted a lot of money but no one speaks because he wins trophys which is most important thing in footy.

Completely agree!

People at work are always saying that if we didn't have Suarez we would be lost. My argument is that he's a striker who is very good at his job. No one goes out to buy a striker that won't score!

Red Raw

Personally I think it's the highest compliment when someone thinks a player is so good in your team that they can literally beat 11 players on an opposing team all on their own

Nevada

Listen other people saying we are a one man team is only them refusing to actually come out and say hey Louis Suarez is a fantastic player so I never let it bother me lads being biased is a common thing now days

I believe that this was a very good transfer window for us. We managed to off load 3 players on high salaries who were not getting any game time (Doni, Cole & Sahin). We also managed to bring in 2 players who have a lot of potential, who in my opinion definitely add to the strength and balance of the squad. Well done FSG, IA, BR and Staff.
PJ

Agree with you 100%
Also, loan deals for ngoo, wilson and pacheco were good.

Hi Eds. Great work through the window and never again shall I ask a question without knowing I should first use the search engine!

Looking to the summer based on what I have seen from the various Eds it looks as though we could be saying goodbye to Pepe and Skrtel from our starting 11. Would hope we could realistically get £15 million for each of them and with the new tv deal kicking in would expect a £35 million budget to be released from FSG that would give us a £65 million transfer war chest. Add to that the money from selling AC to the Hammers if they stay up and there's nearly £80 million.

If we replaced Skrtel with Diakite on a free and looked to spend all of the Pepe money on say Begovic, £6 million on Ince and £10 million on Williams to give us the extra wide man and strength in CB cover that would leave a decent pot for a powerful midfielder and another CF. Personally I would like Kevin Prince Boateng from Milan, powerful presence but can really play and an eye for goal and I would like to see a forward with some physical presence.

Whatever happens I hope we do our business early and don't get caught up in any deadline day nonsense.

Just a question for the ed's. Is Assaidi back at the club?

Also before he left for the Africa cap he was not used at all. Does anybody know why?

alex7777

I'd say Rodgers and Pascoe have a fair idea why.

I believe he's back. saw his pics earlier tonight training with the rest of the team

People complaining about Coutinho saying what's so special about him, he couldn't gave a game at inter. Remember Gerard Pique couldn't get a game at Man united? Wheres he now? Lets just see what Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the team cam bring out in him.
Ive got faith.

A positive post and a very good point. You should have signed it though Coutinho has more hype than Piqué had which is down to the fact that he is Brazilian, skilful and young, I agree with your post totally.
Scouse_Pride

I agree, give the lad a chance!

Or you could argue that there's your evidence to suggest that the Premiership is clearly a tougher league than most around Europe.

Also don't forget that Barnsley wouldn't give Ba a chance haha funniest story I heard!

Henry couldn't get into the juventus team before he left for arsenal and he turned out ok, give the kid a chance

Do you think it is possible we could stop thinking ahead to Summer. And back the lads we just signed. Donny red lfc

I think it's impossible for all of ''us'' to wait until the Summer, with all the Fifa Manager know it alls, I think it's too much of a request. enetering the realms of blue sky thinking. :)

He was never going to play on Sunday.

I think your right, Colin Pascoe said he'd be assessed on his return on Monday/Tuesday

Hans

Yes this is true he is sorting out loose ends Italy Colin pascoe said this in a interview on lfctv today.

Pascoe said so in an interview to tv but he's also got a slight problem with his hamstring.

Pascoe said he's in Milan tying up some stuff and he'll be back and available next week.

Carroll has moved permenantly to West Ham.

Red Stripe.

West ham have agreed to the option to buy him at the end of the season if personal terms are agreed! Which there shouldn't be a problem with! It's best if we get rid of him because he just isn't as good as we all thought he was! Unfortunately! but lets take the cash and run! Hope it works out for him at west ham!

There are people that thought he was good?

I will be astounded, dumbfounded and flabbergahsted if West Ham pay the 17 mil for him.

BrisbaneLFC

01 Feb 2013 17:33:45
Ignoring the price tag, Carroll's goal per minute on the pitch and his contributions were better than borini. How can you say give borini time but not Carroll?
K {Ed001's Note - perhaps because Borini hasn't turned up to training drunk?}

Red Stripe, I have read what Sullivan has said at West Ham, there is absolutely no change in the deal, Carroll has not moved to West Ham, please do not post drivel.

''Why won't it read?!''

Carroll was a lads lad if you will, he stayed out and partied way to much, got into trouble too, he spent a lot of time at casinos and like ed said he turned up to training drunk! I really wonder why we signed him in the 1st place? Why didn't our scouting team pick up on his bad social life? It's just a shame we wasted £35 million on him!

Ack17

Have to agree with Brisbane on this one. I'll be amazed if we get anything over 8M for him. I can't see that West Ham would have been so foolish as to enter into a 'must buy if we stay up' contract. Right to buy, certainly.

RDL

Jus do a swap deal for Diame

I said all this about him from day one but got shot down by the 'support your team, if you don't like it go and support City' clan. I knew it Kenny's fat had been sealed the second it was announced we had signed him. It was painful to watch. It was like watching a Sunday league footballer being thrown into a professional football team. The lad can't trap a ball, has no turn of pace, can't run with the ball, he's weak for a big lad, no balance and has an attitude. Who the hell scouted him?

Ozone

If we get 17m for him I am going to kiss Ian Ayre and Brendan Rodgers.

I still think Carrol could of been a good plan "B" against the clooger's in the league. Stoke etc when at times we seem light weight up front & need that extra hustle & someone to throw their weight about. It has show in the pasyt 2 games against Oldham & Arsenal when we were out muscled.

What a fizz-goggling deal!

01 Feb 2013 15:20:22
why didn't we make a move for momo sissoko, what we need against teams like stoke and everton

01 Feb 2013 15:45:00
A. I think he's only played 1 game all season for PSG. In other words he's not very and B. He's away with the ACON

01 Feb 2013 19:21:16
Momo was never the same for us after his eye injury. He was never a great passer, but he could competently shift the ball to Alonso, Gerrard or a fullback, which was enough coupled with his defensive side.

But afterwards, he seemed to struggle to make 10 yard passes. I don't know whether it was incidental to the injury or what, but he just wasn't the same player. That's why Rafa signed Mascherano.

I have a lot of time for the guy, he was powerful, committed, and aggressive. A 'cult hero', if you'd forgive the use of a cliche. But after his eye injury he was too unreliable. So unless he's sorted that out, I wouldn't take him on again. Especially if we're trying to play a quick, short passing game. Right choice to pass on him, imo.

Just read the Mancini article about Kompany being injury for up to the next three matches and that either Nastasic or Javi Garcia (a midfielder) will likely step in next to Lescott in defence.

I think City's defence and overall team wobble a lot more when Kompany man isn't playing, so that's giving us something to work on and think about.

BCDI.

I agree. Kompany is excellent, and there doesn't seem to be the same confidence when he isn't playing. On top of which, they are also missing Yaya Toure at ACON. In my opinion their two biggest players. They look much less formidable without them, that's for sure.

Nick

Kompany will be back for the Liverpool game mate.

Kompany is the best defender in the league, world class

Kompany is top drawer like the other posters already stated, think he would look better in red! (however unlikely)
Paisley's genius

If he's the best in the PL I can understand why people are at last coming to their senses ans saying the Bundesliga and La Liga are much better leagues for enjoyment and talent.
Good defender, but nowhere near the best.

John B

It's city's attack I worry about. We may get a goal against them but they can easily get a couple back. Our defense isn't too great at times either afterall.
A draw will be a good result but I see us going all out for a win, Fingers crossed we will get it.

MIKEY

Hopefully Siva will be missing also as Kompany, him & Yaya are there best players closely rolled by Aguero.
Scouse_Pride

Yes, he does look good in Red, when he's playing for Belgium.

Kompany has been poor this season and Toure is one of the most over rated players in the league - goes missing in so many games.

Omg do you listen to this crap I hope he's injured I hope he's not playing this type of talk makes me sick we are Liverpool so whoever is put up against us we take them on. C"mon the reds tomorrow. Tommy Irish Red

hi eds
just wondering why we are always trying to get players on the cheap and missing out. dempsey in the summer must be worth £8m all day long. tom ince we did not want to pay a lot for but he has been the most outstanding player in the championship. why could'nt we do what man united done with zaha and loan him back for rest of season at least we would not miss out on him as we probably will in the summer. lfc will never regretably get back to champions league football until they stop messing about and get there players early even if it means paying the full price for them.

Well i'd imagine if it were your money then you'd look for a deal and spend it carefully.

I've got a 1981 Ford Fiesta if you fancy it? £8000

01 Feb 2013 15:06:40
Mushroom, my post of 16th Jan has no bearing on what I wrote today or yesterday, I base my comments on what I see in the games.

If you think a second half collapse as in my opinion it was, and a 2 goal lead squandered against Aresenal was a good display then that's your opinion, I guess you think we played well against the Villa and Oldham as well. I happen to think it was not so good so ill say so.

While I agree progress is being made, my opinions are solely based on performances I watch, and I comment accordingly, if you think different then again that's your choice, but I stand by what I write, we look weak in defence, weak in midfield and our fitness levels looks poor as the game progresses.

Ive never criticised the owners, manager or players as such, but I think the points I've commented on need addressing in my view, others will think were playing great but are unlucky all the time, so be it if that's what you think but I disagree.

If you don't like or understand the content of my posts then that's your perogative, i'm not one for facts as someone said, but the reality is, we don't defend well in most games, we get bossed in midfield a lot of the times, and yea I do realise we need to score one more goal than the opponents, your a clever bloke for pointing that one out whoever it was.

We lost a 2 goal lead because of a poor midfield and defensive display in my opinion second half, we lost against Oldham for the same reasons, we look knackered in most games the longer they go on, don't you think about that and ask the questions why? Or are you an everything is rosy fan?

I'll support LFC for many more years to come fella, but I know what's good to watch and what's poor re football at LFC, and at the mo we're not that good. overall in my opinion, and I just commented on changes that in my view may improve the play, you can agree or disagree it bothers me not in the bigger scheme of things.

Scouse Red.

Fair doos lad, have to agree. we look very tired in games and I do think it could cost us even more as the season progresses which for me is a massive concern. The defence is shaky, hence the trial of Jamie coming back in, the midfield obviously gets kicked around by certain teams but hey at least we are scoring goals now. funny how things change.
FowlerisGod

We lost the second goal because the back line dropped to deep. the midfield could do noting about that. carra tried to push the line up but the other 3 didn't move. we need a defensive organiser. carra will get caught with his pace.

KUMBER

Scouse red,

I got to ' second half collapse ' and couldn't be bothered reading anymore. 2 goals in 5 minutes, to me, does not quantify a collapse.
In response to the rest of the post I'm sure it made sense to you so good on yer.

MUSHROOM

Thats a fair post Scouse Red, you're right that our defence is weak and it definitely isn't as strong as it was last season. I wouldn't be too worried about Arsenal dominating us for large parts of the second half though. I watch a fair bit of Arsenal, when Liverpool isn't on, and they do that to most teams in the second half, even your man city and chelsea's of the league, that obviously isn't an excuse but it our seeming to fade away in games that we are winning is a problem. Hopefully it will be addressed soon.
derryred

Weak?????? second highest team for clean sheets in the league. But I hear what your saying shame I feel asleep after the first sentence. We got a draw at there ground and your moaning? get a life mate. YNWA

Scottybhoy1888

"my post of 16th Jan has no bearing on what I wrote today or yesterday". What?

So why, exactly, should we give any credence to anything you say if by your admission nothing you say now means anything at all once the next thought strikes you?

Perspective, history, experience, progression, and improvement can only be judged and become a factor when you are willing and able to look at the whole picture. We changed tactics (I know, change means you have you what happened before but bear with me) and worked a plan to beat a good team away from home. It worked for a time and we went 2-0 up. Does this mean that Arsenal were a bad side and that they collapsed against us? They countered and played some very good football for 10 minute period, scored 2 before we adjusted our team and fought back. It's called football between two good teams.

The reality is not a lot of teams will live with Arsenal on their home pitch when they play like they did against us. They (and united) have scored the most goals at home (32) this season and they are a formidable team in their own ground. Most especially now with all their speedy attackers in form.

As Carra said, you'd take a point before that game, expect a win after how we played for 60 minutes, but respect a draw in hindsight.

SpudRed

I was at the game and it was far from a collapse. we were playing a team above us in the league (consistently every year) at a ground that isn't the easiest to win at for any team. the players had to work their socks off for 90 minutes against the only team that has dominated lfc with possession this season. they moved the ball, stretching and probing constantly. I was also at the arsenal end due to a friend giving me a ticket. the consensus from their fans was that we should have finished the game off and that afc are at their most dangerous chasing a game. they changed the tempo completely to get back in the game and as soon as it went to 2-2 it relaxed again. if as you say the team collapsed for 30mintes then in theory arsenal fans could say they weren't in the game for 60minutes and were lucky to get a draw?! depends on what side you're looking from.
the reality is there was nothing really between the 2 sides and both will struggle to overcome chelsea & spurs for 4th spot this season.
this is from a reality red who chooses to accept we're on the way back but it will take time.
just for the record, the lad JORDAN HENDERSON put in a shift that the team should take note of, pass & move, tackling, scoring & an assist. good luck to him, he deserves every plaudit. anyone to criticise should at least see him live. he'll be in the england team alongside jack wilshire and stevie g at this rate if he continues to improve.
as for wilshire, had he been in the lfc team we would've won by about 5! the kid is unbelievable, what a talent england have!

s. p

01 Feb 2013 20:48:28
Just exactly what are you lot arguing about? A point at Arsenal which ever way you want to look at it is a point gained not two points dropped. Nearly every team that goes there would take a point before kick off. Plus Lfc played really well. So we let two goals in away at Arsenal so what. If you think you can do a better job then Phone IA and tell him so. When he laughs down the phone at you and calls you crazy then you'll realise that your just a fan so get on with supporting rather than criticising.
Albert

01 Feb 2013 20:52:53
Great comments sp. finally a sensible comment from someone who actually goes to a game. Henderson was fantastic and I for one think Wiltshire is about as impressive a midfielder I've seen in England in a long time. What a talent.
Albert

I was at the game and it was glaringly obvious that Arsenals threat was coming down the right through Walcott. Suarez was knackered and should've been taken off at 2-0 and replaced by Enrique to double up on Walcott leaving Sturridge as the loan striker. Apparently Rodgers had this in mind and there was some issue with Enriques boots when h was getting warmed up. By the time it ad been resolved it was 2 all.

What concerns me about Wednesday is that it was a typical knee jerk reaction to Sundays Oldham loss. Carra brought in to provide a bit of fight and organisation at the back, the captain doing his usual and the rest of the team raising the work ethic with a notable improvement in Hendos game (I knew the lad would come good). But that's as far as it goes. Arsenal were far superior technically, Wilshire ran the show and they were far more free flowing in the
final third. The pattern of our play doesn't bode well for consistency and we have no identity albeit a team that folds against physical presence. Agger gets pushed about too much and as good as Johnson is going forward, his defensive traits can be woeful especially his spatial awareness and ball watching habits.

I'll just post quickly about the bit in the original post I disagree with most, I think we have one of the fittest squads in the Prem, we press and play a short passing game without going to "over the top" in the last 15 minutes. Doing that requires cardio machines through the entire team.

01 Feb 2013 14:31:16
Extract from a much longer article on the official site, where Suarez tells of his love for Liverpool and the effect that Gerrard has had on his life, motivation, and career. But, just read this bit and then simply stop talking about Suarez leaving in the summer. We have him for one more season at least.

"If you want to know what will happen to me if we don't qualify for the Champions League, then I will say this: I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy here. I will stay. "

SpudRed

I am shocked, he is all about the football that guy! Well chuffed!

If no offers comes in for Suarez then I am sure he will be happy to stay at Liverpool for many years (like he did with Ajax), but if the likes of Bayern, Barca or Madrid come in, his head might get turned. He loves the club and the fans and I am sure it will take a very good offer (from his perspective) for him to consider leaving us.

Roy

Let's be honest, you deserve each other.

AJH

He could have left last summer and I was surprised that he stayed as he is the best player in the league by far.

Roy. I hope beyond hope that Saurez is here next season but come the summer, blank cheques will come pouring through the lfc letter box! he is one of the best strikers on the planet and gets better each week. He definitely loves anfield but the ugly truth is, money talks and the promise of CPL superstardom might just shade it. Heres hopin I am wrong. very wrong!

Hope you EDs all well today & yesterday wasn't too hectic for you guys? Jus wondered if one you guys could help me out with the j. cole transfer, as I believe it was a free transfer but jus wondered if he got a settlement figure off us if so can you give me a ball park figure roughly? Or are we still payin him a certain percent of his wages throughout his west ham contract?
Cheers guys. {Ed002's Note - I don't want to go in to numbers as it will lead to abuse of JC - but it was a lot less than it could have been as he only took one third of the wages that could have been due.}

Cheers EDs002, I wasn't slating j. cole & was a gr8 fella when I met him a while back I was jus askin due to all everyone sayin we have saved this & that amount on his & his wages. {Ed002's Note - I appreciate you weren't but sadly others are not as sweet as you.}

Thanks Joe Cole for settling due money without any media fuss. Good Luck.

I think Cole was on about 90K a week, if blame is needed then look at the people who gave him such a lucrative offer and wag your finger their way.

So what's the rule of thumb ed002? Or is it a case of getting around the table and agreeing an exit figure? Is it the same with managers, say a year into a 3 year contract? A rough guideline is fine ed. Cheers

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - It really is best to ignore the number IR.}

Joe Cole was bought by Purslow.
Blame him for the fiasco.
jonnybarnes89-90

Irish Rover, this is just a guess but I would expect it to be like any other contractor (players are essentially contractors paid salary). If I was contracted by a company and the contract length was 1 year, then I would expect a year pay by the end of the contract (be it 12 months salary or lump sums), if they decide to cancel my contract after 6 months (for no fault of mine) they will still have to pay me the remaining 6 months (if they don't I can legally take them to court and they'll have to pay). ofcourse like any other business negotiation they may want to discuss the settlement and offer me less than I was entitled to, but it will be up to me to except.
I would imagine the same happened with Cole, he was due another x amount but have agreed to take a lot less (2/3 less as ed imlpied). the exact amounts are really none of our business.
Roy

It doesn't matter now, he's gone, good luck to him and lets move on!

Well I'm lost without all the transfer talk! . didn't realise how often I kept looking at the site - well played Eds.

Anyway - quick question for you all. Rodgers still gets some stick from many people on here, plenty comments of "out of his depth" "jobs too big for him" etc - Personally I disagree - but footballs about opinions so you have to listen to all. but do you agree that BR is a good man manager?. Downing and Henderson have improved over the last 6 months - and Henderson still has much to give in my opinion - these were 2 players that were constantly getting stick. Suarez has scored many more goals this year (appreciate the 8 game ban last season) so BR is clearly getting a tune out of him aswell. So does this show BR's management skills or is that just that these players have had sometime to settle in to the club?

cheers, Terry Mac Fan Club

I think Rodgers has been brilliant this season. Obviously he has made some errors in judgement but all in all we are improving. Henderson, Downing, Enrique, Carra, Suarez, Sterling and Shelvey have all improved greatly from the latter stages of last season. Our defensive shape could do with some work as we seem vulnerable to very direct teams. We are building an increasingly impressive squad, hopefully when Sterling, Suso, Hendo, Borini, Kelly, Wisdom, Allen and Coutinho etc. peak we will have a great side capable of a title challenge.

I wouldn't say errorin judgment Derry, more like the said players was not up to standard and he let them all knowthey were suppin in the last chance saloon if they didn't sort their nappers out. I don't think anyone wouldve complained if any of those would've been sold in the summer. Fair
play to those guys for showing they are quality players and putting the effort and technique to show they are worthy of wearing the Liverpool shirt. Think BR needs credit for getting the best out of them, something the previous management team totally failed to do.
JohnBoy

I, m going to be bold Derry mate.
I think 2014/15 Season will be the one, as long as we keep the hub of this team together, and they all keep improving.

Phooey.

The main concern I had with Rodgers was I was worried that this job came too soon in his managerial career. He has made mistakes this year but the thing that has really impressed me is his quick learning. I was very critical to start but I'm certainly coming around.

Hi Eds, do you know if we were working on anyone last night and failed? If so could you give names? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Not as far as I am aware.}

Cuenca on loan he opted to go to ajax instead.

My sister is does BR laundry, she said that she found a formal letter in BR laundry yesterday from FSG addressed to BR, they have issued him with a final notice, if Top4 is not achieved then he they will be letting him go, she had to hand him the letter when he collected the laundry as it is company policy to hand over personal possessoins to the owner,

there is a lot to play for so sit back and watch but you will start to see BR under pressue, his Job depends on it

FSG stated that they wanted Rodger's for the long term future and that not achieving champions league this season would not result in him being fired. Stop making up crap.

Dan.

01 Feb 2013 14:51:58
i am not a fan of BR, but we have to give him chance. We ate not Chelsea and I am sure FSG will give him another year what ever happens.
AGCrushdentillidie

I own the laundry that your sister works at & now her job is in the balance she has until may to reach the top 4 dryers!
Mr opidopolis

At least the washer woman didn't find a letter from his bit on the side. That would cause more media frenzy. btw BR is here to stay at least 3 years to give him fair chance, unlike KK. aklfc

Ok, I realise that post-transfer window its going to slow down on here but Eds, really? You let this pass through?

My sister does Rodgers laundry.

FSG stated. . and that not achieving champions league this season would not result in him being fired.

Dan.

Sorry Dan, I have never seen that quote.
What I have seen in August 2012 is Chairman Tom Werner saying top 4 was "vital".

Seems clear that Bren has to get top 4 to survive the summer.

01 Feb 2013 13:26:38
I know Summer is a long way off etc, but I just wondered if any EPL team has ever shown an interest on Radja Nainggolan and if any of the Eds know much about him/rate him?

Cheers, keep up the good work!

Man City were credited with an interest in him last season, not sure if it was true, they bought Garcia as a midfielder instead, last January. But one of the students I lived with last year was almost crying over it, so i'll share what he said ''Leave Cagliari players in Sardinia''.

No player is as big as the club. However at this current time Suarez is priceless for LFC. He is obviously happy at the club and will at least stay until next season. If we don't qualify for Champions League we may have a problem. People saying they'd be happy selling him for 65 million are clueless in my opinion. I would only be happy selling him if the replacement options made up for the loss of Suarez eg. Cavani, Higuain etc however these options are not viable at this current time. and only will be if we get champions league. And in any case to improve the squad we'd need to keep Suarez and add players like this.

Yep a one man team

Where would Manchester United be without RVP? I don't get this concept of one man team. You have a player that is doing great but at the same time he has been bought for that purpose, might as well use him.

I have been critical in the past. But let me say
Good work done by one and all during the window.
2 squad pLayers out 2 first team players in.
I believe that with a few quid spent wisely in the summer on experienced players we will have a squad to compete with through best.
The road is long but I believe we going in the rite direction.
City on Sunday we are capable of a result. ( beat them there last year in cup semi) so why on Sunday.
Marker

I agree with what you're saying and also think we had a good window. However, I had to disagree because we had more than two outgoings.

Eds, Great job as ever, but what was all the Ince fuss about? The lad has only scored league 23 goals in his career and isn't worth the money Blackpool were asking.

To all the knowledgeable lfc fans here saying we should buy this or that player, so who would you drop from the first team? It is all good to have this or that player but are they willing to come and just sit on the bench and later the same fans will label them mercenaries? Cane afford to make losses year after year? Just check your personal finances, can you afford to afford to spend more than what you earn continuously? Assuming the team is owned by the fans and everyone contributed equally. Where would you get 100m to spend every window? Think rationally.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank FSG, the EDS and the players who adorn our great shirt.
I have supported LFC for 51 years now and yes I can't say i'm 100% happy with the past 20 years.

BUT, we have got to learn history counts for nothing anymore, we must think of the future of this great institution. If you are a true fan, make your comments, positive or negative as everyone has an opinion but its wrong to apportion blame on FSG, not yet anyway.

All I say is blaming FSG, the players and the manager is not the answer, i'm sure in time all will come good with the present owners, even if they do sell up so what, the club is much better shape now than when Moores/Parry and Hicks/gillette were custodians.

keep the faith, like I said i'm not 100% happy with results or transfers but I live in hope that one day very soon we will again be the dominant force in world football.

01 Feb 2013 10:57:59
To belfast Pete and the other half wits re my post,
I suggest you look at the second half of the Arsenal game alone and if you can't see the obvious from that half then you know very little about the topic.

We have I would say one of the worst stats for defending set pieces in my book, correct me if i'm wrong but we always seem to concede from corners and free kicks as a rule? Mostly anyway.

Look at the defending in that game alone and it wasnt good, Agger is good on the ball and at blocking ill agree, but when it comes to one on one at heading, not so good, the same applies to Skyrtle who I think is average at best.

IF I was manager and playing your fantasy football manager as most of you do, i'd play downing at LB as he couldn't beat an egg going forward at present and he is quickish at getting back, play Enrique just in front of him as I think he's a natural attacker and gives a good balance to the left.

ID utilise/play Agger more in midfield role as he's another one who likes going forward but would also have defensive nouse, hopefully Lucas will improve with fitness as he was lost in midfield against Arsenal, even when Agger plays in defense for Denmark its the same, look at results.

Use SG sparingly but more as an attacking mid when the games allow, GJ for me is another who should be utilised in midfield I reckon for me he is average at best defending, looks slow and overweight in my opinion, and before you say Englands RB world class etc, just shows the state of English football i'm afraid.

You only have to look at goals for and against to realise the current personel aren't up to the job defensively, the reason we had a great defensive record years ago was we had PPL like Masch breaking it up in Midfield, but we still conceded a lot of goals from set pieces and corners, I remember the Mexican from the scoring a header against us not so long back and he's 5 5", says it all.

As for playing PPL out of position, that's a crap arguement, I remember Ray Kennedy god bless him coming from Arsenal and played out of position in midfield by Paisley, stroke of genius, do you remember that far back?

Also Moyes playing Fellaini as he is now, another stroke of genius I reckon, i'd sooner have baines and Distan than what we have now matey, all on a shoestring, so it is possible to play PPL in different positions, its called being flexible.

But we defo need 2 commanding CBs in the summer if poss and utilise what we have to our strengths from next season, we can post/debate all season long but the facts are we just aren't good enough with what we have at present.

Players should be able to play were they are needed regardless, that's were coaching and management come to the fore, admmitedly Suarez or sturridge aren't going to be defenders but others can be utilised to suit, and as it goes I thought Downing did ok when asked to defend.

Like I said, watch the second half of the arsenal game and hopefully the penny will drop. And before you say we dominated for 50 mins, football matches last 90 plus, so no excuses i'm afraid, we look tired most second halves this season, maybe the bloke who works at the club (Probably the tea boy) can have a word with BR and the might MM to address the fitness and stamina levels.

Once again the knowledgeable Scouse Red.

Perhaps we should play Suarez in goal and Sterling as right back. Worst post I have ever seen.

Knowledgeable! really??? stats mean nothing, the problem is we simply dnt score the amount the top teams like utd city score. to take 3 points you need to score 1 more than the other team. let us do our job and support lfc, and let rodgers and co do there job and get us back to the top. instead of us doing our fantasy teams and saying we need this player tht player for tht position. we making progress thts what counts to me as a fan

I have read you post and you do make some good points but calling yourself "always knowledgable" is a bit big head. One last thing, can you and Belfast pete please stop this childish behaviour it's doing nothing but making you two look like persons.

RedSpud

Dear Mr Knowledgable you are anything but what your name suggests, you make statements as being fact without stats to back them up we cannot be always mostly sometimes the worst at set pieces. To take just a portion of the game and try to critise the team is bang out of order, we played Arsenal at their ground and came away with a point a good result in my eyes. I find your point about getting the teaboy to have a word with BR about Fitness insulting to everyone associated with the club, if you were so knowledgable perhaps you could make football management a career preforably somewhere where they don't have internet so no one has to put up with your CARP

Non sensical rubbish

What are you talking about?

Agger would've scored a header in a one v 'several' situation if Arsenal hadn't someone on the line to hoof it clear!

The Squirrel

I started laughing out loud when you called Glen Johnson overweight? Are you serious, the dude is carved out of granite.

Play Downing at left back? Seriously? That is not a good idea going by his previous experience at that position.

The Irish Rover

Sorry, I had to post again! Use Gerrard sparingly? What our most productive midfielder? That takes the biscuit.

The Irish Rover

Glen Jonhnson is 6'0" and 70kg. He is a specimen.
Suarez is an inch shorter and 10kg heavier.

And Gerrard has 5 goals and 8 assists in the league this season. Playing a deeper role than ever before.

In fact, playing Gerrard and Suarez together accounts for 33 of 44 goals between their goals and assists. And Gerrard has played more consecutive games this season than any season since 2008.

Very glad you are not picking the team.

Good post Scouse Red, spot on mate.

Eds can I just ask why we didn't sign sneijder?

I see his salary is 5 mil euros/year. far less than gerrard and suarez

surely he would have been worth it and he stated he preferred a mve to the epl {Ed002's Note - This has been explained at length - for teh final time his salary is net of deductions.}

Some people don't seem to realise that net means after tax so he would of cost us a hell of a lot more in wages than 5mill a year.

For anyone who believes that suarez will leave because we're sh*t, you're wrong. The only thing that will make luis leave is if the club hhas no direction or progress, which in short will only happen if you so called'fans' continue calling for the managers head when we are making progress and he has done nothing wrong.

The key to success is stability, and success won't come if everyone is constantly wanting to sack the manager for a variety of stupid reasons.

The players seem to be happy with the direction of the club and I think they might know just a bit more about the club than any of us lot.

The Peter Odemwingie saga makes you realise how lucky we are with the likes of Steve Gerrard. He put pen to paper and that was it, like so many other players. But look at some of the other agents the club has had to deal with. Although it's certain to make this season even more hilarious, it does show up the nonsense of having a restricted or limited transfer schedule and how nonsensical it is to employ agents.

QPR shafted (yet again) for millions with Samba and Loic Remy. That's all good for the agents and their fees but a disaster of Portsmouth proportions when they go down. Players need legal representation but not agents. My experience of many of them is that they are businessmen with an eye for finance and not much else. There are some who are ex-players, but then again, with so many players ignorant of life in general, maybe it's right they should be advised by sharp characters out of a novel!

Good 'ole 'arry (the Cockney King) doesn't come out of it smelling of roses either. Apart from calling this 30+ player "a lad". . Redknapp says it was crossed wires and other guff like that. What? Nobody say to the player - "Stay where you are until we call you"? Or say "You tell your player to remain in the Midlands, " or say to WBA "You'd better tell the player what's going on. " Utter trash. Double-dealing and lies abound in the game and we fall for it. Would you let any of these clowns loose with millions of pounds of your money?

Ince is sitting tight and you ask if his dad is advising him or have just decided to play the long game? It would have worked to grab him now and for an extra £1.5m would it have been worth it? Jack Butland went for a ludicrous £3.5m and were we not interested in him?

Odemwingie will be the laughing stock of the game for a month or so while the agents work out how to shaft a club for another signing on fee. Wouldn't it work better for the game if clubs asked a player "Do you want to sign for us?" When the player says "Yes I do, " why do we need to add in an agent and pay him say £500,000 for standing next to the player? Is it to hold the pen when he's finished signing the contract? No! They drive the player to the club for his medical and then back to the club to sign the contract. Blimey! You thought London cabbies overcharged - for most clubs that works out around £6, 987 per mile!

AYLO

It would not be a proper transfer window without 'arry and his comments. At least he was not hanging out his car with the window down. haha. aklfc

Has anyone else looked at the fixture list we have left compared to say Spurs.

After Citeh there isn't really a game I can see as a major threat, I can see a really strong finish to the league as long as SG and Luis stay fit.

Arse, Cheslki and especially Spuds have got a lot of tough games left and I think the first 2 are going to struggle big time.

Why dream of 4th, 3rd is VERY REALISTIC

Hi edds. Least we signed a couple of players this window. Question for the edds. I think there should be a worldwide transfers window. And also the window should open when last premier game has finished and finished 3pm on first dayof the season. Same for managers. Etc. Dpi you think it's a good idea. Or have no window all together and be able to by players when they want etc. {Ed002's Note - Different leagues start and finish at different times. It does not revolve arounf the EPL.}

It should be done away with altogether. It is disruptive, unnecessary, and I am pretty certain that if any player or club went to court to contest it would be shown to be illegal. I would also like to say to the fans who ask "Why didn't we sign. . ?" in most cases it means either that we don't wamt them or (hard to believe!) they don't want us. Enjoy the rest of the season and worry about transfers when the time comes again.
DM2013 {Ed002's Note - You cannot go to court over FIFA/UEFA rules for transfer windows. It would stand about as much chance of being found to be illegal as a striker claiming the off-side rule is restriucting his ability to work.}

01 Feb 2013 09:48:49
eds thanks again for all your hard work, I would like to thank FSG for once again backing the manager in providing our team with the best of the transfer window, not huge money paid either which I thing is really good business. also players departing and reducing the wage bill again good to seeroll on the football and a top 4 finish. ray. 3037

The transfer window could have been worse. I mean we could have missed out on a player from Holland and Spanish striker and end up with a player from Barnsley.

Morning everyone. Well the window has shut and we've done quite well. Cole/Sahin out and Sturridge/Coutinho in. But the best news for me way that Suso is staying put.

Not going to Wigan could have been good for him in terms of getting more game time, but I look at this slightly differently.

It shows to me that Suso has got a really mature head on his shoulders and he knows how & where he wants his football career to develop. I think he accepts that he is still young, he is getting some game time and he can develop naturally at a pace that suits him. He's not one of these "big time charlie" youngsters who think's he should be on big wages and playing every week and he's not restless about not playing week in week out in the first team. HE HAS PATIENCE and that is an attribute that is rarely seen in the modern game.

So hats off to Suso. He will develop gradually and his maturity will shine through on the football pitch when given the opportunity.

Really looking forward to the second half of the season and the future is bright!

Mike in leeds

Well, it is a bit easier to be patient and wait for your chance at the big time when you're as massively talented as Suso. :-)

His worst case scenario is a move to top club in Spain or Italy in a few years, followed by 10 years of massive wages. Suso simply *will* be a top midfielder for someone. Hope it's us.

Good window for us I think.

Suarez came out and said he is staying regardless of 4th place. I just feel it won't be his decision if a 50m (or acceptable) bid comes in then FSG may accept it regardless of how the player feels!

Thanks for the work and input over the window, appreciate it.

Kosovo Joe

If 50million comes in i'd carry him on my back to the bidders.

For me he is priceless.

At ALBERT Re your comments last night.

I've seen the guy play and as you point out YOU haven't! And no, I don't have it all worked out! Your comment about the clip board shows what an person you are.

Whilst on the subject of tactics, did you watch the away game against United, in particular the first half?Where you there - probably not. Did you watch the second half against Arsenal when we retreated deeper and deeper costing 2 goals? Where you there? Probably not.

Judging by your comments, you obviously do not have the intelligence nor competence to have a decent discussion.

Oh and by the way, please don't go on about armchairs, as I'm there home and away for most games

I am personally relieved all of the speculation is over for a few months, er I mean weeks, well actually I'm sure it will start in days if not hours! ;)
I would like to look forward to the summer but not signings, more to do with finance. In other posts/websites FSG are *supposedly* putting up £40 million plus the sale of Andy Carroll. Is this fiction? Fact? Wishful thinking? Are there any indications how much budget there could be there in the summer window?
Not specifically a player but is there a good chance that one of the summer targets could be a "world class" £25 million+ player?

As always great work Eds and I will still visit daily for further info.
Thanks

Suarez has officially told that he wanna be long term at Lfc. So please stop those rumours. And like Sturridge, Coutinho is an excellent bargain signing. U'll c. I expect this to be our first 11, Reina, Jose, Agger, Carra, Johnson, Lucas, Gerrard, Hendo, Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge. I feel is a best attackin line up. One more physically strong defender instead of Carra would be complete. While Diakite has told his 1st preference is Liverpool, and v can sign him on a pre-contract.

. and Lampard kissed the West Ham badge after scoring, said he'd be at the club for ever. . then five minutes later when Chelsea showed an interest he said, "I'm off!"

Had a lot to do with the sacking of Frank Lampard snr

Actually didn't pre Abramovich Chelsea bid big for lampard and west ham said yes as they were in the sh1t financially, as much as I'm no fan of Lampard, he didn't agitate for the move or request a transfer.

Hi eds this maybe a daft question but my mate in work who is a man united supporter said they couldn't buy another world class player as they couldn't pay the high wages because of the Financial Fair Play regulations which if broken you get banned from european football. Is this true and are any premiership teams close to breaking them. more of a question than a post but but why is dani pacheco never playing. I hear that he's (or was) one of the best u21 stirkers but he never gets a chance even when we had a shortage of strikers.

Ha this day two years ago, signing of a world class player (Suarez) and out with another who has probably regretted it from the day he played us that first game and lost, (Torres) still remember that knock agger gave him as abit of goodbye treatment. Funny times

Sturridge and Coutinho for 20m. if you told me that in december I would of slapped you with a cracker.
Agree with robbie savage and owen coyle, Liverpool had the best transfer window.
Benny baller

Yeah right, if savage and coyle say it, it must be right then!. sturridge-chelsea reject who has never done much to impress anybody and coutinho-who

Long term contracts as well, I know it 'might' take Coutinho a while to adjust to the English game but he has got ability. Sturridge is much less of a gamble despite what Fergie said. Sturridge will score a fair few goals, he's better than what we had, I think that after his early goal haul he's taken a bit of the pressure off, warmed himself to the fans and done himself no harm.

Pretty good window for us I think, got ourselves a player for now and one who will be a future star for sure. Didn't break the bank either, and more off the wage bill - nice one Brendan :-)

I'm worried we're a little thin but all in all I thought it was a very good window.

A bit late I know but I just wanted to say how chuffed I was for Henderson last. He's showing promise.

Wish people would back reina a bit more. Yes he's not as good as he was but he is still a class keeper and has earned our respect.

Neilp

Normally I agree, but two years of bad form has made me realise perhaps its time to part company

Where have all the good keepers gone? Chelsea's boy is not as good as he used to be, Arsenal's is a joke and Man u's spaniard is prone to making a few blunders. Just wondering if we let pepe go who would replace him, taking into account the 3 teams already mentioned would be interested in a replacement as well. We could end up in a bidding war for a new keeper

Thank god bloody transfer window is shut ;)) I think we did as well as we could unless we wanted to pay over the odds, got rid of a few player that wen't helping the team and I think the team is progressing despite what some fans say. Now that we know the squad and the players we have to do with till the summer so lets get behind the team and support rather than complain every time the result go wrong.

just like to say that I think the board have done a great job in the window. 2 weeks ago we were supposed to have no money and now we have sturridge and coutinho in at a cost of over 20 m pounds. were 1 of the highest spending clubs in england in this window. well done fsg, well done to brendan rodgers and onward and upward we strive. i'm a happy bunny. Our business this window does not hide that we do need players in in the summer:

We need a goalkeeper, centreback, leftback, defensive midfielder and another striker probably.

Sell Reina, Skrtel, Carroll, Spearing, Pacheco, Wilson, Borini too if he doesn't get his act together.

That would bring in quite a bit of money but a lot can change between now and then: reina 15m
Skrtel 15m
Coates 8m
Carrol 17m
Spearing 2m
Pacheco 3m
I believe borini will hopefully come good
Assasidi 5m
Downing if the price is right

Ins: eriksen 16m
Ince 4m or Munian if downing is sold
Begovic 10m
Cb
Shaw 10m

I know it's a bit silly to be doing this already because so much will change but I'd imagine with reina skrtel carrol probably leaving in the summer we will have quite a bit of money to spend

Would like to see a bid for Diame, not saying he will get us 4th but would be a great squad player.

Right, onto the next window.

Hope you ed's are looking forward to:
- Carroll's loan to buy deal falling through.
- Reina, what next?
- Suarez, will he won't he?

Enjoy!

-Shane. {Ed001's Note - you lot are determined to kill us eds aren't you?}

We should've agreed to sign coutinho at 5 to 11 tonight with helicopters involved, would have been more exciting and a good coup for the club. A black helicopter.

Gazman {Ed001's Note - no, has to be red!}

It'd be cool to arrive in Airwolf

Hi eds not Lfc related but just want some info on Nacho Monreal the left back Arsenal have signed. Is he any good and will he Improve them as a team/back four?. Just don't want them to get the edge over us on 4th place

GAM# {Ed001's Note - he is a very good attacking full back, not the best defensively, but good attacking. Similar to Johnson but a left back I guess. The Spanish think he is a better left back than Enrique, he is in the Spain team, unlike our own Jose.}

When Enrique is on form there isn't much better. However when he's off form he is beyond awful to watch. He needs consistency

01 Feb 2013 09:08:31
i jus feel our jose needs a really good run of games again, he is showing signs of great form and hopefully stay fit until the end of the season. everytime I see him on the ball there is not a player in the premier league who could knock him off it. absolute beast

Is Coutinho cup-tied eds? Guessing yes

Thanks in advance {Ed001's Note - I am too tired to remember the rules, or even if Inter are still in the Europa League for it to matter! If they are still in it, he is defo cup-tied, if they went out, I seem to remember there being a rule about that allowing the player to play for another team still in it, but I am so tired I really couldn't tell you if I am imagining it or not!}
