People on Andy Carrols back just becuase he is not technically as good as Suares. He wont make as many goals for himself but given good service and half decent chances and the boy will put them away. He wont ever set the world alight but he will score goals. Ok £35m was a bit over the top but you cant blame him for that.

Really annoys me that I am getting dragged into the "debate". I post occasionally but observe all the time. I am a West Country lad (turned 41 today!!!!) and did not want to see Exeter get buried. Was nervous before kick off as you never know in cup games against the so called "minows". KK put out a ggod team to give everyone a chance. Those that are leaving (potentially) were not included and I think the full backs played well. I get so p***ed of with so called fans slagging off certain players who need to be given a chance. Kenny is doing that and long term he will be proved right as we all agree that in Kenny we trust. I wanted to have a go at Hendo and Adam for wasting opportunities/passes against weaker opposition where they should have been showing why they are playing for our club but I am going to resist as it is early days and we all need to get a grip. I have full belief in the management team and wish to thank the new owners whole heartily for their support. A year on and we are through to the next round. Scant concellation compared to where we true fans want to be but lets be realistic and get behind the eleven players out there. I for one will support anyone that Kenny sees fit to wear "the shirt" however much the owners have agreed to pay for them. Played three, won two, drawn one. I am a happy bunny for an old fart!! Cornish Red

Happy birthday Cornish Red, it's my sons 5th birthday today as well

5 LFC players in England U'21 squad.

Henderson, Shelvey, Flano, Kelly, Wisdom

Through the Storm

5 of our lads in the squad and yet the BBC headline is "Jones and Welbeck in England U21 squad". Pathetic.

Any one else think we should not of played such a strong side in the light of playing saterday?. I know bolton played aswell anyone know if they played full strength or not?

Cahill and davies were on the bench

Some players where playing for first time in a conpetive match and it will help the other players with match sharpness, fitness, and the team will gel more as they play together, so overall i can see why kk done it.......lfc

Only Kenny and the rest know how fit the players are. With the new-fangled heartrate measuring gear and all the stats the fitness guys collect I highly doubt we'll have played anyone who isn't capable of playing twice in 4 days

Red Ollie

Well...when you think about it....the whole back line will be different for Bolton:
Kelly....Carragher---Agger----Enrigue

the middle will have Lucus in place of Spearing. Adam didnt play the whole game so he can play on Saturday

Maxi will be be subbed by Downing (who played 20 minutes)

Henderson will be subbed by Kuyt (who didnt play at all).

And the front two of Suarez who is more match fit and Caroll who really was the only forced change cause of Meireles! however, his goal will do his confidence good!!

So really....we have a pretty fresh squad for Saturday!

Hi i have been reading this site since the start of the transfer window and am addicted.
I have seen a post from an "unknown" who has many contacts in the world of football. Know 1 that is a very silly thing to say on a site like this and you are just asking to be slated. But he went on to say that we may sign johnson closer to deadline day and pointed out that nasri joining has made johnson chances of 1st team football even slimmer, ed do you think nasri coming will have made it any more likely of the transfer going through ? surely he wont want to sit on the bench with the euros next year

Thank you
Steve {Ed001's Note - I don't unfortunately, City have replaced SWP with Nasri, they would like to sign a replacement for Johnson as well.}

Hi ed001 is johnson on the market then.
Thanks.
aintree dave {Ed001's Note - he will be if Mancini gets a replacement in for him. Nasri is replacing SWP in the squad.}

To put things in some perspective.....this time last year we got beaten by Northampton under Woy and we were all sad. This year we win 3-1 against Exeter, with the following players NOT playing: Gerard, Lucas, Carragher, Cole, Aquilani, Kelly, Johnson, Agger, Kuyt, Doni, Aurelio....a first class team in its own right.

Our new owners and King Kenny have made a huge difference to LFC...we had quality players tonight who were all hungry to play, Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam, Pepe, Mereiles, Maxi, etc. Despoite seriously injuring his collar bone, Mereiles clearly did not want to go off tonight, you could see that look on his face and the medics made him go off the field.

We have come a long way on our journey in the last 12 months. The players are starting to gel together nicely, plus we still have a full team of world class players who didnt even play tonight !!!

The future looking brilliant and we have our new owners to thank for all their commitment and dedication to LFC.......so thank you guys!!!!

Eds....I am so addicted to this site, your comments are brilliant every time, why not make an offer to LFC to run their site for them !!!!!!

Tel 1949 {Ed001's Note - somehow I doubt I could afford to, though it would be nice.}

Get them to pay you!
How many hits per day?
Just a thought.

3 games into the new season and its early days....we are showing promise and are still gelling with virtually a new starting XI.

Just wanted to make a couple of observations. Firstly I think Hendo is gonna be a great signing for us but I just wonder if he needs to settle into this club and find his feet from the bench for a bit in the PL. Dirk gives us a hell of a lot and Hendo has been bought for the future not just the present.

This brings me onto my next point. Big Andy Carroll. There is no doubting he is a quality player but I have have a big concern and I was wondering if anyone else shared my concern. At the moment AC knows he is gonna be on the team sheet every week ( barring injury of course )...and that's what my concern is....who do we have to put him under pressure for his place if he is not performing? Who do we have to bring on when its just not happening for him?

God forbid the unthinkable happened and Suarez got a long term injury because for all our attacking midfield options we are devoid of any real forward threat to come off the bench.

This is a big season for us and I think we all are realistic enough to see CL qualification as a benchmark of success this season and maybe a cup win...anything more is a major bonus!! Another season out of the CL is just not good for our fantastic club.

A proven 3rd striker - an impact player is essential for us this season...and for that reason I think Bellamy is a good shout by Kenny as a stopgap.

We are a million miles away from the doom and gloom of last season and Kenny, DC and the owners have been fantastic. The future is bright but we defo need another forward and I dont think we can wait til the Jan window.

What's everyone else's thoughts??

Carroll's place is at threat from Kuyt, Meireles and Maxi. I agree another back-up striker would be nice but if we started playing really badly with Carroll in the team I think Kenny would have no hesitation in replacing him with one of the above players

To the Andy Carroll haters/doubters etc. He is a Liverpool player whether you like it or not.

Tonight he does his job and gets his first competitive goal of the season - fair play to the lad. Hopefully that will give him some confidence going forward. Yet he still gets stick on here.

It's clear he is working his way to full fitness, he's a big lad and it will take time for him to get to where he and all of us want him to be. When fully fit we have a player who could really be something. His form at Newcastle showed the raw skills, which under the right tutelage could be shaped into quite a player. Kenny has done it before with Alan Shearer, and I wouldn't bet against him doing a similar job with Andy.

Just give the lad a chance

I have been reading all week about how people should not be negative towards Andy Carroll and how people are not true fans if they dislike him. I have watched the pre season games and the games so far this season and I am sorry to say but the lad is simply not good enough. I love Liverpool, have done all my life, does it make me any less of a fan because I am being honest about a player.

He is painfully slow, he has a poor touch, cant pass and takes ages just to turn. Yes he has a nice shot and we all know he can head a ball but I am seriously worried about him. In my opinion, he will never be good enough, but I guess I should go and support Everton now as I'm such a bad person for seeing the obvious.

If anyone watched that game tonight and is saying....'where are all of the Carroll haters now' well I'm right here, if you can honestly say you like the way he plays football, forget about KK and the money, or the fact that he 'needs a chance', then you need your heads testing. It is horrible watching him play football most of the game, he gets lucky and smashes the ball and all of a sudden lets all jump on the bandwagon and say how great he is.

Wake up and smell the cookies, the lad is not good enough and it is a terrible signing.

Lets see how many comments I get saying that I'm a t**t or I'm just a bad fan.....get over yourselves

I'm going to get it just as bad as you, but I completely agree. I think he is a bench player, and can come off to change a game. With Carroll we change our style. I love the short pass and move thing we have going on, but Carroll just isn't part of this. We start of with Pass move, but eventually we just end up hitting long balls up to Carroll.

Slate me all you want. I have been a LFC fan all my life. If this doesn't make me a 'proper' Liverpool fan then so be itt. Remember everyone can have a opinion.

I am not a 'Carroll hater', I like the guy but right now ge just isn't good enough.

Thanks, James.
Thanks, James.

Firstly you do not sign your post, secondly it is obvious he has a huge pressure on his shoulders because people like you following the media like sheep and just look at his price tag.

I can only assume you are a total numptie as to slate a player so hard is only going to take him one direction.....do you not feking understand that?

Sorry for being harsh but ffs think about it, we have bought him and he is now a Liverpool player, support him no matter what, he has loads of potential and w4nkers like you are just gonna bring him and Liverpool down, think about it, people tried to do the same with downing and soon shut up. So one thing maybe you do really feel that way but, how the hell is it going to help, simple, it ain't so for now keep it to yourself and support him! I for one feel he will prove people like you wrong!
K79

I'm defending & supporting Carroll at this point. That's not to say in six months I won't change my tune... The point is support now & then question after 6 months, surely thats the way it should be?

dd

Couldn't agree more mate! But yer you should be supporting Everton! Your the worst fan in the world haha. Nice to have someone speaking sense! Chico73

I agree carroll is a bit sh*t, i also think the service of adam, downing and henderson hasnt been too good but it should all click soon enough, carroll and suarez were linking up well together tonight, even tho carroll screwed up sometimes. felt weird watching carrol and suarez on the same pitch but they looked good together, you could see suarez always looking for the right pass for him. these 2 can be devastating together.

You can say what you like but it worse to leave no name as it makes you look like a snake in the grass.
aintree dave

Youre a t**t and a narrow minded one. Carroll's work-rate and contribution in games is great. When both he and Luis are playing, we have a multitude of options and the opposition have real problems as we can attack in whichever way we choose - long balls, quick passing, high crosses, on the deck, etc. Agree that with Andy playing alone up front we become one-dimensional but you are disregarding the space he allows other players because he needs to be marked so tightly. I couldn't care if we paid 200m each for them - Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez are a dream partnership of two very different and multi-skilled forwards, and once they gel the other teams will not know what to do. Tell me how many headed goals we scored from corners and crosses last year? Who was providing the physical presence against Vidic and Terry last year? Who was drawing the defenders away for our other players to score last year? Andy Carroll gives us these options and more. And he has one sweet left foot. Stop being a 'bad fan' and start being a good SUPPORTER.

cozinoz

I agree that Carroll has a poor first touch and is slow in possession. Which would be really terrible if he'd been signed as a winger or a playmaker. But he hasn't. He's a centre-forward. If we keep Carroll on the last defender all the time and have the other attackers rotating around him, Carroll will only need to finish the moves off so his lack of technical skill won't matter that much. We'll have Suarez, Downing, Adam, Gerrard, Henderson, Kuyt etc etc passing and moving and creating the chances for Carroll to finish off. Once the staff realise he needs to be finishing moves and needs to stop dropping back, he will look like a better player. If he can get fitter he'll also be much more of a threat

Red Ollie

I complety agree and I know I will get slated but I do believe that Carroll is simply not good enough to be starting but I do like him because he plays for Liverpool which is one of the greatest clubs ever. Carroll has a lot of pressure on his hands because people are expecting wonders from Carroll because we payed 35 million for him and he simply cannot handle the pressure at this point of time I don't believe he will even be near the contenders for the golden boot. Maybe after 2 years he will start scoring more but I do not believe that he will become one of the greatest strikers in the premier league and I am going to leave my name and I know I will get slated for ever more on this site but I am just expressing my complety honest opinion about Andy Carroll. My name =Zincho (and from now on I'm guessing people are going to say it like it's a curse word but it's my opinion and I do not care what anyone calls me but please feel free to critise me but if you agree with me you should write your own honest opinion and write your name because for some reason people care about leaving there name) Zincho....

Jesus whats this no name thing all about, my name is scousetoby! i posted this link....happy now? {Ed001's Note - it is just so people can reply to you specifically, it makes it easier if you put a name. It is like being in the pub with a group of mates, it is much easier to address one of them by name, rather than just saying you over there each time.}

K79 I hope he does prove me wrong, I like the lad and his passion, I just don't think he is a very good footballer. scousetoby

Giv the lad a break, he played with confidence last season and looked the part for nufc. he is under massive pressure at the moment because of his price. when stevie is back, i think carrol will start to show his potential. gerrard pushes players on the field and gives them support and motivation and i think that is exactly what AC needs right now. 20 goals for andy by may

Tomkop7

Given time I think the partnership of Carroll and Suarez will gel similarly to that of Keegan-Toshack. Toshack has the same built like Carroll and the power in the shots. Let KK build on what he has brought into the team. But for security like injuries etc. we need another forward like Doyle or Ruiz.

I was waiting for a response like yours cozinoz, I respect the lad for putting in his all and trying his best, but his best will never be good enough. You know absolutely nothing about football if you think he will be up to scratch, and I think you will find that your the t**t and the type of fan that thinks KK can do no wrong.

To the real Liverpool fans, ignore all these no names who continually rip our players. Hide behind anonymaty. Very pro job done, onwards and upwards. Wouldn't even respond to these pussy's who leave no name. You really would think we'd lost all three games we've played. Amazing how the odd bad touch is posted about but nowt about his shooting and heading technique. Chris i dont wanna fall out wid ya,its the no names mate that really piss me off. Good job lads. To the real fans on here, please stop replying to no name cocks who no matter what goes on the'll find something to piss and moan about Jonson6

I won't fall out with you pal, Andy scored with a lovely finish tonight and if he keeps on scoring he'll do for me. However, and I hope this doesn't piss you off too much, other than the goal he was really awful. Poor touch, slow, bad positioning, easily knocked over and non existent hold up play and he turns slower than me!!
However it did appear he may be carrying a knock so despite sounding like I'm slaughtering him I will continue to hope that the improvement is only around the corner

Chris in Tamworth

Well said Jonson6

atlfc70

Thanks for leaving the name Chris, I respect that. I have exactly the same view as you and if I get slaughtered for it then so be it.

Thanks, James.

Totally agree Jonson6 but some of these w4nkers bait me and I bite, maybe I should not but, you can see it is clearly having an impact on some players which is totally wrong!

Jonson6 - one, Chris in Tamworth - nil

Good win tonight was a little surprised to see luis play aspecially to start do you think kenny was seeing if luis and raul had the same connection as they did on Saturday and if there s a definate spark between them. Good goal by Andy was getting slightly frustrated watching him lose the ball alot and that's coming from someone who likes him unlike some people on there, he took it very well though. Bring on Bolton
James St ives

24 Aug 2011 22:29:50
Andy Carroll critic here. I feel he still has alot to prove to the majority of us fans. While the other fans reassure us he'll come good and put fear into defenders across thecountry; However i'm of the opinion that he remains to impress, and time (which he needs) will tell, if he "comes good".

But I can't take nothing away from him tonight. I thought he had a very good game, controlled the ball and layed it off well. And obviously his goal strike was fantastic.

Let's hope he does come good and makes us critics eat our words.

Consistency will be key for him to get us/the critics off his back, let's hope it starts @ Bolton (Home) on Saturday :)

A content (For the moment) fan.

Chipkin9 (Eire)

Fair play mate, your not like most Carroll haters on here. I by the way am a big Andy fan and I already think hes been reasonably good this season (not brilliant, but okay). Anyway most Carroll critics slated him tonight even though he played well, so fair play to you to admit he played well.
KiwiRed

Until we get a consistant flow of crosses in from the wings (did you not see his face last night) we wont see the best of him.

And as the likes of Downing and Henderson are still trying to settle themselves, we'll have to be patient with the lad.

Paul R

One other point, don't you remember Torres, even when playing well, being pushed all over the place, losing the ball, only to score an amazing goal.

And Crouch, another perfect example!

Paul R

24 Aug 2011 22:28:50
Great to see SUAREZ his 100% record and Carroll score the goal of the game. I would however like to see more evidence that everything good doesn't have to come through suarez we don't want to become dependent like we were with torres. Hopefully Carroll can score against Bolton as well as Suarez and we can get used to seeing them as a partnership this season, not just individuals.

24 Aug 2011 22:28:12
Hi all ,
Good game tonight ..I think flanagon nd Adam didn't have good game nd neither Carroll but I think he is so desprate to do well nd justify price tag he is putting himself under pressure nd negitive media comments doesn't help either ..as a fan we need to get behind him nd encourage him to enjoy himself nd once we see him enjoying himself he will produce quality nd goals expected...imagine Carroll smiling next to defender on corner nd I'm sure defender will s**t himself...how players feel on pitch plays part with form nd we need to make sure we let him know he is welcome at lfc..every player in world have both good nd bad points nd some have more positive then negitive nd with Carroll he does give us option of diffrent style of football which maybe ugly but can be effective if used in right way such as if we have tough opponent nd we have only one goal load...I hope nd believe he will turn good nd we got to give him full season before we can pass judgement ...

Hi Eds 'n' All,

I've read the (rumoured) details of the Aqualani transfer and am as horrified as everyone else. Can anyone enlighten me as to whether this unpalatable buy-off actually saves the club money in the long run? That's to say wages sitting on the bench would have amounted to more than essentially paying for his holiday home?

Great job, Eds, as ever...

Dr S.Atire. {Ed001's Note - it is cheaper, it is not a big saving, but it is a saving, just sad it has to come to this, obviously money comes before professional pride, even though he already has more money than he needs to live on for the rest of his life.}

24 Aug 2011 22:26:52
How quickly did it take for Torres to go from world class to below average!... We got andy for 15m less and he scored more against city in 1 game than Torres has in god knows how many games for chavski... It may take a while to bed but trust that were better off now and if were getting results with performances like this, when he is firing we'll be lethal!! We got 2 players for amost the cost of torres both of which are performing better! Where's the issue??!! On another note reckon Suarez will bag 50 league goals quicker than judas as well!!

We won!
Tonight
We won!
Saturday
We won!
vs H& G
We won!
the King is the Manager.
He is us and we are him.
So for f==ks sake stop with the negative waves Moriarty!!!!
We have a great squad, we have a great coach and fitness team, we have OUR club an identity back!!
We have proper owners who have invested over £100m since having off the two rustlers who by the way were still in charge this time last season.
OUR players need us!
WE should ALL get behind them and stop slating every missed ball or shot or whatever, are you fans or just flag wavers?
Its going to be a great season compared to last and we may not win the league, or be in European competition but we have our club back and its heading in the right direction...it will only carry on that way if we back ALL the players who wear the red medal of honour.
WE WON!!!!
Kenny is us and we are him

We had a good result tonight, but has anyone else noticed that we have not scored this season when Suarez isn't on the pitch? a bit worrying

Not THAT worrying. we have played three games so far this season and he's been on the pitch for most of that.
what do you expect?
we weren't struggling to score in pre-season anyway...

24 Aug 2011 21:59:54
Is anyone else worried that if Suarez gets injured for any length of time we will be in trouble?

It is a slight worry, and I hope Kenny and DC are looking at players to rectify that situation. Without Suarez, we lack that edge and are very predictable.

RedSG

We are very dependant on Suarez and Gerrard when hes fit. I can see KK waiting till we get into the CL next year and then look for 1or2 match winning players to join Suarez and Gerrard.
Wheeler92

As great as Barca is, if Messi is injured will they win all their games? have you seen how bad ManCity play without Silva...every team needs their best player...I have much more faith now compared to last year that we would be ok...but having Suarez playing means we can beat anyone, anywhere...

numondo

How many times have Gerrard and Suarez played together??????

The reason KK is building a squad the way he is, is so he can cope without one or the other at any given time.

With CL football, we will be able to attract the upper elite players, but I think KK wants players who want to play for us over the egomaniacs and money grubbers we've seen going around recently.

In Kenny I trust.

Chi-Paul

People used to worry like that if Gerrard wasn't playing, but we actually did well in those games.

all this talk of adam johnson not been allowed by city to join us, im sure he would have a say on where he goes
5 gold stars

24 Aug 2011 21:52:29
first of all, i like to say that i really love our captain and if he stays fit a while, he will be a marquee signing.
having said that, if his injuries stay on the table, is there anyone else wanting a new captain? carra is a super lad, but i always see just the second captain he is in him. i really fancy the image of pepe with the captain's sign, he plays every game and is a real leader.

Does el pistolero ever have a bad game?

Just a shout 4 Jay spearing tonight, one & two touch pass n move, the lad dint give the ball away once.

How professional was that compared to Northampton. At last a manager who takes the cups seriously, well done KK.

What a Lad! see suarez give that exeter fan sitting next to the bench have a photo!!!

Yep for all his neck-biting, handballing history.....Luis Suarez is becoming a true class act

24 Aug 2011 21:27:28
Why is Downing playing on the right????

Because maxi can't

Seriously? Are you for real?

Because he can play on both sides and he can cut inside on his left foot when playing on the right. How long have you been watching football?

Because he can play on the right.

I think i remember i read that he can play almost everywhere and switched to the right against arsenal also.

Why are you posting stupid comments?

Cos he is told to, he likes to n has always had the odd game there

Why you asking like its the end of the world his a winger he can play right n left doesnt make a difference

Because at the time it was 3 nil, he can play right across the front line and he is by far are best singing of the summer. also felt Henderson played well up until that yellow card, i feel very sorry for him because he is so young but the amount of money we payed for him has put alot of pressure on him.

To cut in and shoot. plus he can put in a cross with his right pretty well

He is two footed & to cut inside, it's not all to bye to cross 4 carrolls head also gives diff angle 4 crosses

Can anyone tell me how exeter are playing because my team chesterfield are playing them on sat and we need a result.

Exter was good, better than I was expecting them to be.

They are playing BRILLIANTLY!

You sir, are screwed.

Exeter played well, a good team with skill and determination. they did themselves proud

So is this Adam Johnson nonsense going to go on for 2 years like the villa, silva, aguero, mata. I really hope not but looks like it will and then in the end everyones sources will yet again be wrong. It has been said over and over Man City would not sell him to us but if you want to still dream then i say sweet dreams. I will say I would like to have him because Henderson brings nothing absolutely nothing right now, maybe in a few years. (crossed fingers) But if we pay 20 mil for henderson to play on the right then why would we pay 20 mil or more for Johnson to play on the right. Food for thought......

Anyone who starts by saying henderson 20 mill is not a L.F.C supporter because he would not inflate the price of our player every body knows costed 16 mill nice try no name again as usual t**t.

Well done andy carrol hopefully this will kick start had to laugh watching the game and sky sports news that absolute a**e hole letissier was just saying andy carrol was struggling and didnt look like a 35 million striker 30 seconds later andy slammed one in he honestly looked gutted he,d scored an he had to eat humble pie live on sky lol ggreat game from saurez 1 goal 2 assists couldnt ask for anymore I know where only playing exeter but this time last year with roy we,d have lost this hope carrol proves that person le tiss wrong I personally think he will be fantastic for us
giblet

Come on, why cant people see sense, I don't care what people are going to say about 'your not a true fan' its rubbish. Andy Carroll is a good footballer but nothing special, yes he has a good shot and good head, but he cant pass, he is RIDICULOUSLY slow and takes about 10 years to turn. I know that he will never be quality, and I will happily take the crap if he turns out to be amazing...which I seriously doubt

I tought carroll was absolutly brutal his touch was awfull very poor

Zzzzzzzzzz boring........

weres all the carroll haters now, just scored a lovely goal.you'll all eat your harsh words this season, mark my words.
dub phil

It's Exeter they're like bottom of league 1...

I don't think anyone is a Carroll hater, just expect alot for a guy costing 35 million. As impressed as I am with his goal against Exeter, questions are going to be asked until he is delivering on the big stage. I would love in Bolton is that stage!

He can score against the big teams aswell, remember the city game.some people just need to moan about a certain couple of players each season
dubphil

I know for 35 million people expect him to settle down straight away, just give him time......shouldn't we be helping him rather than slating him.....although i do think he looks abit clumpsy on the ball at times.

AJ

If Carroll had taken that strike against Joe Hart, Petr Cech; it'd go in too. No keeper can save that.

Why still so hung up on how much we paid for him?you'd swear the money came out of your piggy bank!if he scores against the scum will that be on the "big stage"?
dubphil

I seriously can not believe so called Liverpool fans are upset, disappointed, hating, OUR Andy Carroll! His OUR forward, his OUR number 9. We got him injured & he has worked so hard to do well, it does not help the referee keeps getting coned by deffenders and he can't jump up to win a header because they go down like a sack of potatoes! Also he did NOT say please buy me for £35m! We paid it, KK wants him & I have no doubt he will b a great player & scorer for us. His OUR number 9 let's show him what LIVERPOOL FC is really all about and getting behind this lad. So happy he scored today. Well done Andy Carroll OUR number 9! Let's get behind him.
Thank you.

Alsky

Why do you people think your such amazing fans....in truth your complete idiots. If you guys think Andy Carroll is going to be a great player, you know nothing about football.

"let's sea if andy can do it on the big stage",you tit, he scored a screamer against us last season from outside the box oh and didn't he score one from outside the box today as well ffs.

beauty by carroll there! lets see the 'fans' who are so against him disappear into the woodwork

Ohhh shut up mate, he was absolutely rubbish for most of the game. Where do people get off on being such idiots about the guy. He is the slowest footballer I have ever seen, your just blinded buy the fact you all think your such amazing fans! I'm being honest, he is not good enough and never will be!

What is wrong with you Carroll lovers? He is basically a souped-up Nikola Zigic.

Ash

Love it when Mancs appear on here during our matches. Andy Carroll is a beast.

24 Aug 2011 21:05:37
That's a monkey of Andy's back, 1st goal of the season. A great finish too.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Yeah. Great Finnish. He is paid to score. He won't beat people or do them for pace but if he stays fit he will score 20 this season & a great foil for Suarez. I can't believe some posters r true Lfc fans they constantly criticise our players. It's now moved from maxi & Lucas to Carroll & hendo.

Seriously listening to all this whinging about henderson and carroll is really a pain in the arse.I bet these were the same so called supporters who slaughtered lucas at the start yet voted him player of the year last season.Nothing but hypocrites.They disgust me.(RD.RED) {Ed009's Note - classic when Carroll buries one like that!}

It was a quality strike from Carroll, but I would like to see him involved in the play a lot more. Truth be told, we are playing Exeter. Nevertheless, hopefully he'll grow in confidence after that.

Ash

Carroll isn't good enough, Henderson is confident and will be class

6 - Luis Suarez has now scored six goals in his last five games for Uruguay & Liverpool. Rampant. - Opta

dmedly

ED how much do you think suarez is worth in todays market? upwards of 50 surely... we got an absolute bargain.. {Ed009's Note - Similar to what Torres was worth when we sold him - so arguably 50 million. Perhaps a little less as he has only proved himself for 8 months in a top league.}

He is proven in the Copa and world cupas well. I just hope we can get back into the champs league this season.. I can see Madrid and Barca circling next summer..

24 Aug 2011 20:32:06
Sky Sports News saying Aquilani to Milan is done and it is an initial loan deal that would become permanent if he makes 25 or more appearances for Milan this season. This true?
The Poacher {Ed009's Note - I believe it to be so.}

If we go ahead with this deal it could go down as one of the most stupid deals ever made. What happens when he gets to 24 appearances? Maybe he is injured or not playing well, etc., etc. We could be going through this same soap opera again next summer. Sell or keep him, no loan deal.

Just like Macca said, loan deal with option to buy. Credit where credit is due.

The Irish Rover

The way this entire aquaman situation has been handled is a joke, that is clearly costing the club a lot of money. It all started when he was allowed to consistently bleat about how he wanted to stay in Italy and play only in Italy. Any Italian team that wants him knew back then that they would get him at their own terms and conditions and at their price. ra1969

Nice one Macca, you were the 1st one to tell us that mate.

Cheers

Nothing much going right for Henderson out there. Poor lad. 21, just moved away from home, big price tag, wants to make a good impression...it's gotta be tough. Once he relaxes into the team, like at Sunderland, he'll come good. Early days yet.

-Shane.

I think we won't see the best of Hendo, untill he moves into CM.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Henderson is a cm not a right mid

But he start playing cack when he was moved to CM last season.

Martin

Once Gerrard is back he will go into Hendersons spot on the starting 11. Henderson will be able to go to the bench and grow into his spot on the team. He wasn't bought for his impact this year. He was bought to learn behind Gerrard and for the future.

His shoulder popped out and went back in. will b having a medical either at exter or tomorrow in liverpool. it is slightly concerning but nothing REAL serious

According to the commentator, the shoulder popped out and was popped back in on the field. Now deciding whether to go to a local hospital or wait til back in Liverpool for further tests.

Am I the only one that thinks Henderson looks really average player? your thoughts eds. {Ed009's Note - Eat those words. He just threw in the quality cross that, inadvertently, set up Suarez.}

Henderson definatley looks average, trying to credit him with an assist for the Suarez goal is ridiclous.. {Ed009's Note - Hmm, it just gets my back up people having a go at our players every time we play.}

Lay off Henderson fukn hell the young lads doing alright he ain't no Stevie.G but he's better than Poulson, Shelvey, and Cole. It's like the Lucas situation again young lad who will take time to settle.

I'm not havinga go its just my opinion that henderson looks average. He will hopefully improve. ED do you think he has improved the squad? is her better down the right than Kuyt is? {Ed009's Note - I think he is better than Kuyt. He has the same energy but he is faster and has a better cross on him. I am not sure we will see the best of him until he makes the move into central midfield.}

Why don't you just support, ge'ez...

dmedly

But what when stevie is back, he dont start for me, adam is much better than henderson as is kuyt

I don't think Henderson is bad player. I think he has potential, and it will take time to uncover it (similar to Lucas). However, if he is starting again this weekend against Bolton (ahead of Meireles if he is not injured...) then I am worried. Henderson not good enough to be in the starting 11 of a top 4 team.

Henderson looks poor, we wasted money on that deal.

I agree 100%. Still think he will develop, but having him as starter in midfield will not get us to top 4. He is fast, but his passing is suspect and his decision making is poor for a midfielder. He made one good pass against Exeter (so far) and atleast 6 give-aways....against EXETER!

Why does he always play a first touch pass backwards, it disrupts every move.. that needs to be eased out of his game..

Jesus Ed I could cross like that!! be real people!!

Clearly as a team we haven't settled yet. We're on the verge of having an entirely new team that haven't even played a year together. Some players take time to settle and with the young players we've brought in it will take time for the pressure to ease off them and allow them to flourish. At 21 I think Henderson has more than enough time to prove himself and no doubt will. Not starting him would not only ruin his confidence but slow his development, which would make the 16-20m we spent on him wasted. He needs support from the fans as does Carroll and the rest of our new signings because if Liverpool fans don't support the players then no one will. If you don't support the players then what's the point supporting the team?

LFC Eaton

I was at the game tonight and paid particular attention to Henderson as I remained unconvinced. However, this boy is class. His movement off the ball and his intelligence is excellent. I never realised how big he was either. He will be class.

Ahoy - hopefully Mr Coates will prove himself to be a quality signing and develop into a reliable and solid centre half. Lets not expect too much of him immediately and hope that he is allowed to develop and maximise his talent.

Remember for every Sami there has been a Glenn Hyssen, Bjorn Kvarme, Nicky Tanner, Torben Piechnik or Igor Biscan (he did play CB) all touted as the next great CB and failed miserably.

Lets hope the scouting network have done their homework and physically seen him play in a number of games and situations

Lets not put too much pressure on him he will take a while to adapt and fit in.

Personally I think it is a great time to be using the young talent we have - The game at Arsenal showed for the first time in 12 years we have strength in depth and alternatives when required. It has been very frustrating to continually watch us cross the white line with Plan A and if that doesn't work we always had Plan A to fall back on.

On a separate note I have today been asked on a Corporate Day out to "The Temple of Doom" on Sunday for Scummers v Gunners - Do I accept is the moral dilema - driven to the ground 3 course executive hospitality, huge amounts of free drink and and a lift home afterwards and Bank holiday monday to recover.

Deep down I can justify this to myself as a football fan and an opportunity to despise all those surrounding me - PRAWN SANDWICH ANYONE

Please advise if I should go

Boiled Onions

Lol my mate Toddy has got the same deal but he's a hammer so I guess the free booze will prevail...

Give the ticket to me if you can't live with the guilt, free drink and in that ground will be interesting :)
MIKEY

Why don't you fill yourself with free food and drink to bursting ?
Then go in the ground and spew your ring everywhere. Lol.

After serious thought I will be meeting with Toddy and drinking as much as I can - it does say on the Executive invite RSVP which means Refreshments Served Vomit Possible

eds has or will raheem sterling be going on loan or is he in the squad for tonight as i think he could be the future of LFC

ShaneLFC {Ed009's Note - I am not so sure that he will go on loan this year. He would likely not make a starting role for a Premier League team and he ought to be in the reserves here, if anywhere. It can also be dangerous to expose young players to the rigours of a league such as our's before they are physically ready. He is not on the substitutes bench tonight, no.}

Aquilani, I cannot get my head round his proposed LOAN move to Milan, WHY another loan deal?

We paid anywhere between 16-20 million depending on who you believe, Aquilani hates life in England and wants to return home, we loan him out to juventus the following season for a season long loan with the option of buying him for a reduced price of 12-15 million. Aquilani had a good season with Juve and also got his place back in the national team however Juve decided against buying him after going back on the deal and only offering 5 million for him.

Now AC Milan want Aquilani on another season long loan with a condition that if he plays 25 games then they must pay Liverpool 5 million?

Am I missing something please... Have Liverpool become the mugs of Europe, cos all teams in Europe no that Liverpool have surplas players does this give them the right to take the piss?

If Aquilani is on 60 to even 100 grand a week I would keep him and stick two fingers up to Europe out of principle. Aquilani has nothing to prove to anyone he did his talking with his feet last season. If it's down to money then Aquilani will have to lower his wage demands if he wishes to leave, not be in a position as he is and keep going on season long loans..

We need to grow a pair as a club and make a stand on this one.

Gone2curl1

We became mugs when rafa signed him.
MIKEY

Aquilani was nothing more than average last season and doesn't want to be here. There's no point posturing by keeping here another year, paying his massive wages and letting him upset squad morale just to sell him for even less in January or next summer.

So nice to see Jonson6 and Chris in Tamworth getting along. I thought I was going to have to ask Ed to appoint The Booter as a mediator. I have a picture in my mind that the 3 of them could be active participants in the WWE or something. Great posters and they add a bit of humour to the site. Hard to believe the transfer window is winding down. Comolli has done a great job in my opinion. I just hope we can write better contracts with these players agents so we don't get stuck with the Coles poulsons jovas and n'gogs type of wages in the future. Who at the club is responsible for the current new contracts written since Jan Ed???

Chi-Paul {Ed009's Note - I am sorry but I have no idea who is responsible for such a thing, but I am 100% certain that Kenny will look over all wages offered and make sure they are acceptable. Jonson and Chris making up is all my Christmases come at once.}

Here's the pre-match reminder to get the match on your PC.

1. Install the browser Google Chrome.

2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.

3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.

4. Click on extensions

5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.

6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.

7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)

8. A small football will then appear in the top right (as you look at it). Click on that, select 'live stream' and reset the clock to GMT and it will list all the live games available all over europe and other places.

You may occasionally need to install other programmes or the link you pick will only work on Explorer (in which case cut and paste the URL into Explorer), but you will always get every EPL match (or any other). Sometimes you will only be able to find it with foreign commentary and sometimes you will get it in English. You'll get about thirty links and you may have to look through a lot of them to get what you want. You will also get most La Liga matches, Greek matches, Italian matches and French matches as well as top matches from South America.

Someone also asked about viruses etc. Google Chrome is actually far more secure than Internet Explorer so the risks are considerably less, but you should have decent virus/spyware programmes and run sweeps regularly as a matter of course.

The quality will also depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have super-speed and have a modern HD TV, consider connecting your PC to the TV via the PC socket on the side/ back.

Cut and paste the above into a document and save it for future reference.

RED LENIN.

Thanks, this works brill

Try freefootball.org for tonights game (bookmark it).

I use IExplorer and sometimes it uses up all my cpu, and I have to restart my browser. But this is very likely due to me temporarily (until I get a new one) using a 7 yr old xp laptop with low ram.

So I would suggest using firefox for the site.

But internet explorer should also work fine for 99.9% of you :)

Enjoy!

Adam Johnson will do a Torres on mancity on close to the deadline and put in a transfer request to come to LFC. That's my gut feeling at this stage.

BooDaBooze
---------------------------------------------------
Brother I actually have a feeling that Torres may do a Torres this window and beg Kenny to take him back.
That boring Chelsea as long as has Lampard will not create any chances for him.
Trust me there is more chances of Torres begging us then Adam.J asking city to sell him to LFC.
Do you get the feeling by seeing torres that he may start crying.

i'm from exeter and played golf today at woodbury park where the team stayed . Cole . Poulson and ngog not even travelled . Carling cup is usually for fringe players so my guess is they are leaving . Expect a really strong side tonight as the only player from the reserves training today was sterling

Plus have you thought that they are on there way out n don't want to cup tie them for the poor club that gets them?

Starting to get a little concerned about another loan deal for aquilani. Why o why can the Italians not just buy the guy outright? They have seen what he can do last season on loan to Juventus, so another loan deal to go thru with AC.
I appreciate that there is a clause that when he plays 25 matches they have to buy him.......what if he doesn't play 25 games for them? What then?

There is seriously something wrong with him (I have no idea what) but for a guy of his talent, he should have clubs banging our doors down for him, Even at £12mil never mind a loan and the £6mil

24 Aug 2011 18:18:00
Fenerbache have been ruled out of the Champions Leauge due to match fixing.

Liverpool are looking likely to take their place as Liverpool are highest in the European standings without european football. However, only 4 teams can take part in CL in the Premier league, therefore if Arsenal get knocked out tonight, Liverpool will go into Champions League. If Arsenal win, Liverpool will go into the Europa League.

Hope this makes sense, I sort of confused myself while typing this. It's a win win situation for Liverpool by the looks of it. UEFA will release a statement at 7:30pm about this.

did you know that Coates is the same height as Hyppia and they also share the same birthday..Read it on Bleacher Report..so dont know how reliable this is..it also says he has signed a five year contract and will be announced tonight if his work permit is granted

A previous poster had said they had 6 letters in their name,,and know this..hopefully a good omen.

Liverpool Rumours
{ed's note - for one he won't leave Newcastle, for two he is not that good and most of all he is a complete and utter scumbag.}

now come on ed i think your being abit harsh on scumbags, carroll needs some sence knocking into him.

for me if we got mourinho as manager, signed carroll the thug from newcastle and luis suárez the cheat form ajax, i would seriously consider giving up on football. i just can't belive people on here want any of them.

However - no nation can have more than four teams in the Champions League so all may rest on Arsenal losing? Trying to get confirmation.

I don't want us to get in Champs League through a back door like that. It won't happen anyway.

It dont matter, even if arsenal do lose we still wont get the CL spot it will go to a turkish team.....which one i dont know but i presume it will be whoever finish next in line in there league last season.... if that makes any sense lol

"Valencia was a big club anyway but I have left to join a bigger club," the 23-year-old winger said. "It is all about the opportunity to win trophies and I have that here."

sounds familiar isnt it??
probably the universal mercenary language...

To be fair, he's far more chance of trophies at Chelsea than Valencia. Madrid and Barca are too good for everyone else in Spain.

Any links for tonights match fellas Myp2p is down

Try freefootball.org

I use IExplorer and sometimes it uses up all my cpu, and I have to restart my browser. But this is very likely due to me temporarily (until I get a new one) using a 7 yr old xp laptop with low ram.

So I would suggest using firefox for the site.

Enjoy!

Just hearing Liverpool could be in the Champions League as a result of Fenerbahce being expelled. When a team is expelled UEFA may give the place to the team with the highest co-efficient not currently in Europe. However - no nation can have more than four teams in the Champions League so all may rest on Arsenal losing? Trying to get confirmation.
Would be nice,would'nt it?

FourFourTom FourFourTom
This is my understanding - if Arsenal win, Liverpool are in the EL cause 5 teams from the same nation can't be in the CL.

If Arsenal lose tonight there will be an English slot available in the CL and Liverpool have the highest co-efficient meaning they'd get it.

Yes it would be nice but i wouldn't hold your breath

Just been on ESPN and there's nothing there regarding this. I think we can say it's a wind up.

Dale Johnson's twiiter account has it but he is confusing himself atm

You say that no nation can have more than 4 teams in the CL. however, let us remember back in 2005, when there were 5 English sides in the CL, although this didn't last long, as i'm sure we all remember our lovely neighbours getting thrashed by Villareal in the Qualifying stages ;).

Anyway, I wouldn't get your hopes up over this, until it actually happens.

I find it so interesting that so many of my fellow reds are so quick to criticise the likes of Carroll and Henderson. You will all eat some humble pie, probably this season, if not then surely over the coming seasons as both these players will be fixtures in our starting eleven for now and in the future.

To question whether it is a good idea to allow players to leave on a free and take financial hits on players is ridiculous. Aquilani was bought when these owners were still making the Red Sox who they are today. FSG are wipeing the slate clean so that Daglish and Co. can build a squad of contributing players, the fact the owners are willing to do this shows exactly their pedegree.

Ed's, Coates is a very good player, watched him alot in Copa America, I am excited that he looks likely to sign. I do however thing we still need another striker as we would be in trouble if the likes of Suarez went down. Are there any strikers at the moment that you would consider to be targets?

...but if it was true would it be a help or hindrance?

Surely Spurs would get the nod ahead of us?

I dont believe that it is true but how would champions league be a hinderence?

Fernabache. Kicked out of champions league breaking news, any chance of us taking there place? {Ed009's Note - Why on earth would a team placing sixth in the English League, take the place of a Turkish team?}

Why not we have history in the competition won it 5 times have a worldwide following and would bring more to the competion than Spurs, and any other 3rd 4th place team in Europe! {Ed009's Note - The only reason I can see that we would get it over Spurs is that they are already in Europa in one form. I am afraid that sentimentality will not buy us a place in the top European competition.}

I would ahev thought it would go to a Turkish team myself.

Ed002,can i just humbley say that i suggest any Liverpool posters who are still not guite happy enough for some reason, go and read Ed002's reply to the post on rumours at 16.36. What a great reply Ed002,such a shame that even though your a Chelsea supporter your more positive about Liverpool FC then a lot of so called fans on here. Top answer Ed002,go take a peak folks. Jonson6 {Ed009's Note - my sentiments exactly.}

ED2 is spot on on that post and also fair play for flagging that post up. Its shocking actually what these so called fans are typing in about our signings. Its simple if you dont like it go elsewhere and 'follow' someone else. I would also like to add that whilst all these EDS work hard keeping this website up and running so we can all keep up to date with the world of football some morons aint happy with what they read, again simple go and pay for lies on a dodgy website we all know and hate! I think its a double bonus with Seb Coates's arrival. He spoke to Luis who obviously was very influential on the move by what Seb Coates has said Luis. 1,we've got a centre back of the highest order who at 20 is a monster and the world's his oyster. 2,Their's no way that them silly rumours were doing their sounds sporadically a little while ago, about Luis leaving soon and going to Real Madrid or Barcelona or even City themselves i read a while ago if they came in for him. He's never going to help convince a 20 year old player to come hear(not just down to Luis but a definate influence) tell him how great our club is and then leave the young man high and dry if you get my meaning. Just so excited at what K.K and Commoli are doing with the transfer's they've pulled off. Can i just say a big thank you to John Henry,Tom Werner and the rest of the New England posse who have more then put their money where the mouth is and have taken the club to a whole new level. Lord, thank you so much for our owners, manager, players and coaching staff and most important of all making me a Red. Jonson6

Chris, you concur with these fine sentiments?
The Real KB

They've taken the spending to a whole new level anyway. Down to the players to achieve it. On that note, we as fans need to get behind them at every opportunity, regardless of how the games going: too often its been quiet at Anfield in recent seasons. Don't mind people expressing an opinion on how the money has been spent etc (get over it - most are fantastic signings at decent money IMO) so long as you get behind the team ALWAYS (Spurs could always do with'suppoprters' like you - you ain't needed here.)

I have heard Anzhi Makhachkala are interested in taking Poulsen to Russia. The Russians see him as the ideal man to hold the fort whilst Zhirkov, Eto'o and Dzsudzsak rampage forward. They have offered LFC more than the asking price, offering £12million. They will tempt the dane to move to outer Russia with a wage of £210,000 pw.

Seems like something they'd do...

Ahhhhh if only.

Say what 12mill well holy jesus juice batman 12mill so when's he going.

No chance what a stupid post

Then they should be interested in a 2005 Kia Carens, 65000 mls, 2 mths. m.o.t. and no tax for , say, £32,500 ?
Poulsen could even drive it to the airport!!
ANFIELDPETE

'outer Russia'? You don't know much, do you? Although Makhachkala is in Dagestan on the coast of the Caspian Sea, the players live and train in Moscow, flying to both home and away matches.

'outer Russia' isn't as daft as £12m for Poulsen - we'll be lucky to get £12.

He could do his impression of a glacier in the frozen north, cos he's been doing it for us.

I am really dissapointed/upset about what I am reading on this site everyday. LFC fans used to be known all over the world for being the best but I am honestly ashamed for some of these people saying they support our great club. Dont you know supporters are meant to support and not turn the knife at every chance they get, whether it be Kenny,BigAndy,Hendo they represent our club so why all the bashing.? Kenny is building a team/squad he and his backroom staff think are good enough to get us back to the top - can you not just give them a chance to prove themselves, its not your money that has been spent on them !! Please just support 100% whoever wears that Red top and see where it takes us - i think alot of so-called fans will have a lot of egg on there face in a few months time....

she was saying a while back how her nephew was going on about a cortez coming in, just a thought but she might of meant coates? i know its a rather large leap and a bit of a weird scenario for info but i swear i could not be arsed making this up, least of all typing it after smashing this lemon haze.

i shall investigate when the rats locks need cutting again though, ask her about it and see if i can get anything else.

Given all the obvious euphoria at our recent spending spree (not that you can please everyone all the time) I thought that we might all pause for a few seconds and cast our minds back a year or so to the SNAFU that our great Club found itself in during the H & G era.

I would also respectfully suggest that we should all raise our glasses this day in respect of Messrs Broughton, Purslow and Ayre who rescued us from our path to oblivion.

Gentlemen, IMHO the three of you will go down in the pantheon of great Reds to have served this amazing Club of ours and I (and I am sure many others do too) give thanks for a job well executed...

Ed's - Can you please post this in both rumours and banter as sometimes I feel we all need to have a reality check as to just how far we have come since the dark days. Thanks {Ed009's Note - I deliberated long and hard about posting this in rumours, as we can't post banter there as a rule. In this case though, I decided it was relevant and poignant enough to deserve a slot.}

I think once Ngog has been off loaded we will go for Papiss Demba Cisse. Back in March he admitted liverpool would be "dream club" but wanted to stay at SC Freiburg.
He has said yesterday he wants to leave SC Freiburg for a bigger club (source: BBC, T-online.de).
It would be a good back up striker imo. Last term he scored 32 goals in 51 appearances for the bundisliga side. ed?

'Harry Rednapp admitts that he wants Joe Cole but no enquiries have been made so far ' - Surely that's tapping up? Or has Cole been told he's free to talk to anyone?

24 Aug 2011 15:45:16
Harry Redknapp has today said that Joe Cole is a player he likes alot and although no enquiry has been made about his availability as of yet that he would like to have him at the club. If Kenny does decide that he is surplus to requirements I expect he would leave with few problems as QPR are reportedly interested too. I personally hopes he stays as a useful squad player/sub and manages to make an impact and show what we all know he's capable of. If he does go though, it'd be one more big earner off the wage bill.

Adam Johnson is said to be extremely unhappy with the number of players infront of him in the pecking order (more so with the arrival of Nasri.) Arsenal are thinking about making an offer for him. Although he would prefer a move to Liverpool, although Man City are reluctent to sell for less than £20mil. I don't think Liverpool will make a bid unless they can get rid of the rest of the deadwood (Cole, Aquilani ,Poulson, Ngog etc)

Liverpool signings sine KK took over: (Rough Figures)
Name Cost Wages
Suarez : £22mil £70k
Carroll: £35mil £70k
Hendo: £16mil £45k
Adam: £6.5mil £35k
Downing; £18mil £80k
Doni: £0 £35k
Enrique: £5.5mil £50k
Total £102mil £385k

Players Sold:
Torres: £50mil £120k
Babel £7mil £50k
Jova: £-1mill £50k
Konch: £1.5mill £35k
Greek: Free £35k
El Zhar: Free £35k
Mavinga: £1mil £15k
Bruna: Nominal £7k
Ayala: £800k £12k
Total: £59.3 £359k

These are obviously rough figures, but we have basically improved the squad for £43 million and an increase of £26k per week.
If you take Aqualani's (£70k)wages out of this, potentially degen's (£35k), insua's (£25K), Cole's (£90K), Poulson's (£40k) That is a further £260k off of the wage budget.
Obviously, this is very hopeful and we may end up
with several of these players, but even if we only drop Aqua, our wage bill will be less than last year with a much ebtter squad. You can add Coates to that (Possibiliy £40k max) and we still have less spend per week with a much stronger squad.

Less moaning and more supporting boys.

Hey macca, how you doing?? I just wanna ask you whether we'll be able to sign benayoun or not? I've heard somewhere he is going to spurs in the Modric deal.
On the sidenote, I want to inform those ppl who slag macca that he isnt one of those who makes up rubbish just to be in the limelight. Infact he was the one who informed us abt the takeover as well.so respect the man for what he does. Im sure he has got better things to do in life other than posting rumours for which he gets slated.

Can I make a little suggestion to our friends 'Arry and Arsene ?
When you've taken training and gone home, I know you like to watch that good news, tear-inducing tele programme " 60 Minute Makeover ".
It is amazing what can be done in an hour.
But, chaps, that doesn't mean you have to base your transfer policy on 60 minutes of frantic clearing out and jazzing up.
Sometimes you end up with an Egyptian Tomb-themed bedroom in a semi in Crewe. Know what I mean ?

Why r the idiots having a go at andy carroll hes played two games and put himself about in when on the field. I remember crouchy taking a hell of a long time to score then when he did he was loved by all. He maybe expensive but he wants to be here and I doubt there would be many top names who would want to play for us without the cl . Next you clowns will be moaning thats reina doesnt score enough. Kd is building liverpool for many premiership titles not one for another 20 odd years. Back the team dont attack theteam.

24 Aug 2011 14:55:44
Why are some people so convinced that Forlan would be a good signing. The guy is 32 years old and has already failed in the EPL once.
Andy Carroll will be an LFC legend so there is no need for another striker especially with Dirk around.

24 Aug 2011 14:54:56
ed do you think coates will be the last signing of the summer {Ed028's Note - I think KK will assess whether we need another striker or not, IMO I think were fine now}

To any and all EDs. (You are all great by the way)

Could "Macca" possibly be Terry McDermott?

Good friends with KK and even tho he isnt involved in a PL team im sure might have info. {Ed028's Note - No he isn't Terry McDermott!}

Macca is Batman i thought everyone knew that!!!!!!!!!
LeeWils

When I still lived in Liverpool anyone with a surname beginning with Mc or Mac was liable to be nicknamed Macca. My name is Malcolm and I was also sometimes known as macca and sometimes still am (and it's not me who is so knowledgeable about events at Anfield).
Dutchmal

Yeah McEvoy is my second name, been called macca all my life, i feel like a fraud calling myself anything else but i cant sign off on here as macca, ive been using this amazing site for all my news for a while now and have come to the conclusion that using macca here could cause more trouble and confusion than its worth. To the Macca, good job on all your shouts lad.

Wot about steve mcmanaman liverpool legend hangs about in espn lounge most games still get along wif alot of people in the club? {Ed028's Note - Nope}

I've got a funny feeling macca is the other macca we had in the 90's.
Macateer not Mcmanaman. He's still involved with the club a regular on lfctv and a big fan. Still in with quite a few of the older players around the place.
This could be a great new game guess who macca is it could be the rumours version of the Stig.........Some say he once flicked Fergies Nose with a a wet towel causing it to swell and turn a funny shade of red...... All we know is he's called Macca.
Carlos79

I think he is surely steve mcmahon as i clearly remember him telling no espn last season in the bolton match in january that torres will surely leave the club

While people are on about spam , this is what is pissing me off.
All this about the new spam kids , and how brilliant they are.
To me a kid is someone who has come out of your academy set-up like Owen, fowler, carra etc.
Not a keeper who you had to pay 20mil for , Jones who set them back near on 20mil.

LAVERS

Spot on LAVERS and another point which wont get mentioned by sly sports or the press is if we pull the coates deal off for the reported 7 or 8m we will signed Enrique, Adam and coates for almost the same money spent on either de gea or jones seperately Now thats first class dealings on our part!
I always have been and always will be proud to support the greatest football club in the world LIVERPOOL FC but with the king being back in charge and fantastic owners who are willing to back us i must admit these are exciting times once again.

There's 2 things wrong with this post

1) This is a lie.

2) Uncle Malcolm is our old friend Sydney.

You really are a little fibber Sydney mate. Now you're hiding behind names? Stop all this sillyness and grow up mate, and take what is thrown at you. As Sydney of course not Uncle Malcolm, maybe that's why you're hiding?

Ps. Coward! lol

Sydney before coming on here slating our clubs finances, try looking at your own clubs. SSN are a joke:
They give Spurs over 5 minutes on transfers that will not happen anytime soon, and then are forced to say "we've had Liverpool fans phoning in asking about transfers" and then literally give us 15 seconds on Coates and Aquilani - seriously.
Don't get me started on the fees they claim we paid for our signings, all inflated so they can say "Liverpool have spent over £100m on players since January" - net spend around £50m more like. It would be nice if the main sports news broadcast in this country wasn't so biased, to focus on news and not betting patterns to suit themselves. Sorry to rant, great site btw.

To all those people on here complaining about the players we have bought and their transfer fee's etc - QPR are about to sign Luke Young - he REJECTED a move to Liverpool this time last year, that's how bad things were. Be gratefull for what we have got.

JRG

We could have had Luke Young???????????

Very true, The other thing to remember is that when we got Kenny in charge everyone was delighted( you could have even said it was fan power that got him in). But now people are saying they have the right to question his signings, surely if you was delighted at his appointment you should also give his signings the chance to prove their worth. It is like electing a leader then moaning at his policies, we wanted him in we will have to trust his judgement! If he thinks the players are right we will have to trust this ,as we sort of elected him!
John Wigan

Thank God LUKE YOUNG SNUBBED US! HE WILL BE A TYPICAL WOY SIGNING, ANOTHER KONCHESKY, WE WILL BE TRYING TO GET RID OF HIM AT THIS TIME! KELLY & FLANNO WON'T GET THE CHANCE!

Personally Coates more reminds me of Agger and Ivanovic. Agger is better on the ball then Ferdinand, Ivanovic isn't quite as good in the air as Vidic buts gets his goals, plus Ivanovic has pace, just like Coates, something that Vidic isn't blessed with although he aint a total slouch. Jonson6

He reminds me of Hyypia.

He reminds me of hyypia because in al fairness i had never heard of the player much the same as with hyypia himself if this signing comes off i have great feelings about it

After watching the Copa America, Uruguay had several players I expected the 'rich' teams of europe (City, Chelsea, Madrid, PSG etc) to go for, Coates among them. If, as looks likely, we sign him, it's a massive coup for the mighty reds, well pleased. Coates and Agger (injuries permitting) will prove to be a top class pairing.

By the way, a lot of people are puzzling over Macca's identity. Is he Henry the mild mannered janitor? Could be...

Sorry to do this but his name was Penry not Henry

With the amount of info Macca comes with, I would suspect that he is a man of leisure. If he isn't lobbing money on his info and pocketing a small fortune, then he should start. Very good work mate.

This is a site for banter. People are entitled to their opinions. I for one agree that the money we paid for certain transfers, i.e. carroll and henderson was way overboard.

Anonymous posts pretty much remove the general idea of banter. Nameless clowns leave little or no scope for meaningful reply, joking or otherwise. That is why your opinion is as unimportant as it is idiotic. As a wise man once said, 'I never forget a face but in your case i'll make an exception.'

KRANCJAR in swap with J COLE would be a great deal me thinks by KK

When Krancjar gets a chance he normally delivers with a few belting goals. Would be a reasonable swap considering Cole never plays and seems past his best.

Kranjcar has little or no pace, and is fairly lazy as well. I wouldnt see it as a beneficial deal for LFC.

does anyone know if we've officially had an offer accepted for coates? there's story on LFC website saying "coates signed sealed and delivered to anfield for a historic fee of 7 million" haven't seen an official announcement about it though, will they only do that once he's agreed personal terms and had a medical?

seems like a brilliant piece of business if we got him for 7 mill

Diego Forlan is free to negotiate with clubs. now with Coates on the verge of signing and Luis Suarez already here, I think it would be a real quality addition to our squad. He's the same age as Bellamy but twice the player and would comand a similar wage. I seriously think that we'd have a squad capable of winning the league with Coates and Forlan added to our other summer signings.
Ron-Aldo

Do not presume he would command a similar wage to bellamy. And forlan would not be happy being a bench player, and a bench player is clearly what we're looking for. Still, I'd take him over bellamy any day, but i am a FM addict, so...

can any fan put up all the players - ins and outs with prices/ free etc since kk took over in jan , with many of the players sold or released , even on the offical lpool site it donst say the transfer fee for some players, as i like to keep note of the net spent to keep other fans saying oh you spend this etc , for instance i think we paid 15.8 m for young henderson, yet 20 m gets put about, while arsenal for example buy camberlain for 15m , a player yet to play in the prem , it gets reported at 12m, this sort of thing anoyes me and i get the feeling the media, love trying to put us down......thanks.....lfc {Ed002's Note - The problem is that it can be very misleading. For example, Jovanovic left on a free - but Liverpool had to pay off money owed to him - so really it would be a negative number to be meaningful. The same with the released players, do you take account of the millions paid by the club to let them go. It is then a case of do you include wages, signing on fees, agents fees etc. or not?}

Thanks ed002, i know its a bit more complicated than straight forward ,but its just the fee paid to each club i go on , it gives a rough idea......lfc {Ed002's Note - Personally I think most fans have little or no grasp of the finances and it strikes me as a dangerous are to dip your toes in to. But if someone posts the data fine - but we will probably cut too much discussion on it as the data will be very misleading.}

Park chu Young seems the most likely option, if any, for help in attack. I rate him highly on the basis that on name value alone he is already on par with Park and Young, and will surely outplay any Chu who dares step to! I know that I am very clever thank you very much, and how could I not be if I was truly a reds supporter! :)

Also I believe macca is gonna be right regd benayoun, as he won't be sold to us and was only being dangled as an incentive for chelsea's interest in meireles. No thanks blues... love yossi, but raul is top class and you'll have to make do with the 2 games this year that modric puts on a white kit for you.

Finally, seeing as how we're about to sign coates (fingers crossed), everyone should learn how to pronounce his name properly- it's co-aah-tez. If I'm wrong please correct. Good luck tonight reds YNWA.... azkop

hey eds,

dint know where to ask this help so putting it here?? I would like to know if anyone here has an app to keep track of the stats of the players in a game of soocer for iPhone. I love Carroll, KD and all the REDS and would like to use the app as a weapon to shut the mouths of these whining REDS who will never get behind the team even if GOD managed it by comparing the stats with the likes of AGUEROS and TORRES divided by the money paid.

There are things besides goals which make a team look steady and strong. Carroll may not have scored yet but will be scoring bucketloads (or Suarez would score tons from him) once the 2 start playing together regularly. We already have great suppliers from the left side and hoping someone comes on the right too.

I bet even then these whiners would complain -- Oh, we should not have conceded' Criticism is important to improve a team but does not help always.

If Aguero is worth 38million then Carroll is definitely worth 50Million with his ability to feed the others and attract the defence towards him leaving Suarez in open space. Next time, u whiners please see how many balls went from Carroll to others in goal scoring chances and then slag the man off.

Sorry for the long rant but the REDS here sometimes with their incessant whining just get on my nerves.

I hope you post it. (and also tell me the app if there is any)

Barclays foorball app has a few stats on their. shots goals assists fouls etc. for all PL teams

Tomkop7

Fourfourtwo app aswell. uses opta stats

Tomkop7

Thansk Tomkop7

the one from Fourfourtwo is really nice and cheap as well. But the only glitch is it is suited for the iPhone, however, I downloaded it

Mushroom: quite agree with you, we have paid well over the odds (and I mean well over) for Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam.
------------------------------------------------

I never stated we paid well over the odds for any player. I pointed out transfer fees we have spent on players and how this could be deemed buying success which a lot of fans have criticised other clubs for doing. I was giving a non-biased opinion. Yes I am a LFC fan but I am not blinkered like some, and no that is not a dig at you.

To be fair Mushroom, our squad still cost well over £100 mil less than Utd, City and Chelsea... So buying success? I'm not so sure. Yes we have spent money and improved but not on the scale most people seem to think it is. Any success we achieve will be through hard work.

In 2011 a club like liverpool , arsenal or spurs (and below) has to spend big to have any chance of top 4 success, the little gems are now very much expensive gems due to the amount of media coverage football receives world wide. We have not spent like City have for the past 2 seasons nor what chelsea outlayed in their initial splurges. The plan seems to be spend relatively big to get squad talent and value to top four capablilities whilst buying the best young talent around to fill one of the top 5 academys in world football with the aim of producing world class talent from within so we dont have to spend as much in the future and can attract the best.

24 Aug 2011 12:33:43
I don't know what's wrong with some of the fans. Not long ago they were all moaning about how we failed to sign top notch youngsters and when we do sign them they are slating the players and the manager because the player had one or two average games. Just give them some time to settle and judge them after a season at least.

The Urchin

Very good post! Some slanters are probably dreaming of us getting back to signing "established" players on inflated wages!

If we have been looking at a yossi return, but been rebuffed on price, i would go looking for a younger option. Sturridge would be good, what with Mata going to chelsea, but chelsea would over value him also. Id look at Aiden McGeady hes fairly young, 26-27 i believe and would not break the bank. A more expensive but more rewarding option would be Navas for me. Any thoughts ed?

Anfield Andy

Forget Navas.

BooDaBooze

Kenny highly rates James McCarthy and we will see a showdown with Fergie over his signature. Only question is whether hendo has been purchased instead. For now, no question let's complete the uraguayan triangle by bringing in cavanni. azkop

McGeady? Seriously, is this a comedy post? He's a poor man's Damien Duff, if Duff had only one eye and needed a ventilator. McGeady looked good in the SPL, but N'gog would be a 30-40 goal a year man there. Hell, Poulson would be an SPL star

Ed, I understand that you didn't put up my post yesterday regarding Aquilani. I had gone too far, won't happen again. Just the fact that when I read that we have to pay him some sort of compensation for him to leave, it had my blood boiling. But he is exactly that what I wrote yesterday.

I am so excited about Coates news. He is going to be a fantastic player for us. Once Soto was sold we were bound to sign a CB, and I was surprised and excited when I read Macca mentioning Coates. Our squad now has very good depth and I am really optimistic about this season. And all this with our captain still to come.

Just seen that Arry is after Joe Cole.
Funny I remember last season when we were in a spot of bother , so many spuds fans coming on here telling us how were a small club. And spurs where bigger.
Where are these people now?
And to top if off Joe Cole will be there big signing of the summer .

The negativity on here is getting worse, if that's possible; there's barely any real banter anyomre, just real fans telling various grimacing clowns where to go. Ed, what chances are there of only allowing signed posts up on the site? A small concession and probably a bit pointless, but something needs to be done. Too many part-time supporters/village idiots these days.

Cheers for the response Ed, I appreciate it

I totally agree Milamber it's getting tiresome and ridiculous, maybe some sort of registration might be in order or ip address recognition so the ed's know who's who and what site there from, but that said then there's a dilemma we can't go on their site's and have banter or propaganda it's the later which grind's my gears, the pretense of being a fan and miss quoting prices over and over and paid over the odds malarky,or maybe ban the posters who repeat these quote's as it's not banter any more it's...... well fill in the blanks yourself.

I think to simply say we have paid too much money for players such as Carroll, Henderson and Downing shows little understanding of the inflated transfer market, how clubs auction players and the need to oust rival bids.

Carroll was a target I believe for this summer that needed to be pushed forward because of Nando leaving.

Newcastle slapped a 25+ mill price tag on him instantly and I am led to believe spurs came in for around 30 mill...so the £35 mill we paid for Carroll was what it took to secure a player who will be a mainstay in our side for the next 8 years +.

The fact he is English also whacked millions on his price - which we all know is ridiculous but it's the way it is.

But Enrique, Adam and hopefully Coates all look likely to be bargains!

We are putting together a well balanced side, with strength and depth in the squad, I can only see positives as to what Kenny and the owners are doing.

If it doesn't work out, then it will be down to other teams simply being better than us and not from the lack of trying.

This post is aimed at all the negative neddys who keep saying that some of our players are not good enough! Were just 2 games in to the season and we will get better the more games we play.
I have always been a gambler and have won and lost on Lfc over the years hence my name kidmillions. This season I have placed some heavy bets on us to win the Premier:
I put a lot of thought and research into my betting strategy before I put my money down.
So I will show you what my betting strategy is based on.
Last Season we finished 6th , what makes me think we can jump from 6th to 1st ?. Well in the top 6 mini league we actually finished 2nd.Last season after struggling for the most part. So its not as big a jump to make as what people might think and from a gambling point of view Liverpool are the value at around 10/1
.............LAST SEASON

Manu P10 – W5 – D2 – L3 F12 – A10.. . Points 17
LFC...P10 – W4 – D2 – L4 F14 – A11... Points 14
AFC...P10 - W3 – D4 – L3 F14 – A12.....Points 13
Spurs..P10 - W3 – D4 – L3 F12 – A12.....Points 13
Chel....P10 - W4 – D1 – L5 F11 – A12......Points 13
City …P10 - W3 – D3 – L4 F6 - A10..... Points 12

This Season were all ready off to a flier in the mini league with our win at Arsenal
For a number of years now we have had no problem against the Top sides but have
struggled against the lesser teams.
But now with the players been brought in I truly believe this is going to be our year.
And at the seasons end I will have even more money :) :)

Even if only paid 16m for henderson it was too much, and 35m for carroll was way way way way way way way way way too much, should have spent more wisely.

What's this big infatuation with money?

Carroll and Henderson are both good young players who could push on to be excellent players, if you didn't know how much they cost you would be happy to have them in your squad.

Get over it, move on and look at the squad we have now compared to last year!

dmedly

Why are you moaning? Man Utd didn't buy them, Liverpool did.

cozinoz

24 Aug 2011 11:44:41
Take in your points that the players we purchased were top players for their clubs, but lets face it these clubs are Sunderland, Newcastle, Blackpool and Aston Villa. We still paid too much money for these players.

7M for Coates
6M for Enrique
7M for Adam

20M for 3 good players who will still improve while here, very good business and more or less balances out the high fees paid for the English players we signed.

Conversations getting boring, the money's spent so why keep debating it til the cows come home. Move on

J.hoover

Yeah, Sunderland, Newcastle, Villa and Blackpool who together took 13 points off us last season...the quality gap in this league has never been smaller, look at West Ham who went down with Parker, Birmingham who went down with Johnson and Dann and Wigan who barely survived with N'Zogbia, Rodallega and Mccarthy. Where you play your football is, like pricetag, a very poor yardstick by which to measure talent - as proved by Chris Smalling, 2 seasons ago plying his trade for Maidstone United and, as we can see, clearly a talented player

Red Ollie

Agree J.Hoover.....people are acting like they are taking the money out their own pockets....our job as fans is to support the club and the players chosen to play for the club...SG

Would like to say I would like to see Yossi back and by the way with reference to a previous post it is well known in football circles that we paid well over the odds for Henderson from Sunderland, no way was he their top player.

Did a quick google search as I remembered other teams looking at Henderson earlier this year, I won't mention the link as it's the Man Utd site it went to but lists their transfer targets from the newspaper rumours much like LFC's site does. Henderson was rumoured to be a £15 million target by them, other teams were also looking at this price, so how did Liverpool overpay when other teams were in for him at this price.
There's got to be more to debate than the tired 'we paid too much, whine, moan, whinge' etc. What's done is done, these are young players and people have given them 2 games to prove their price tag. By that reckoning many top players would have been a waste of money if we're giving them 180 minutes before we hang them out to dry.

I,d like to see Keegan and Toshack back

Forlan has been given permission by Atletico to negotiate a transfer (BBC reports)...... But I dont believe he's coming to us any more than I belive Bellamy will (CB is too old, disruptive and with all the niggling injuries and fitness issues that you'd expect - and I saw him play a few times last season - still got flair, some pace but not what he was)

Also, interesting piece in today's FT (!) about MU's Asian business (IPO, etc). Worth a read not just because its another scratch at the surface of their dodgy finances but becauses it touches on their commercial strategy in Asia

Dawkins

Of course Bellamy's not what he was, if he was he'd be starting for a top 6 club. He'd be a good back-up striker who can offer something different to Kuyt in that he dribbles at defences and won't be much of a hindrance to the younger forwards due to his age

I guess they must be more familiar with Uruguayan domestic football than I am. Its not my strong point i'll admit.

That said he looks decent on youtube so he must be good.

Id never heard of Sami Hyypia until he signed, but he turned out OK!

For every who says that we pay well over the odds for some of our Players consider the Following Facts,
The players we bought were the Players of the season for thier clubs irrespective of their club was in Relegation zone. And, every team wants to hold thier players at Anycost.
For Caroll, he is the sensation in his first season in Top division scoring 11 goals in 17 matches. Ask, how much 50 million striker scored? Remember a bid over 25 million was rejected by Newcastle. And at the times of Desperation we made the Bid worth 35 million which was too good to refuse for Newcastle even though the want to Hold thier top player. Thats why his fee was inflated.
For Henderson, he was a top player for Sunderland

Cahill would be my preferred CB choice. Proven Prem player and will only get better. We also need a striker to provide competition to Suarez and Carroll especially. Eds any realistic names we could go for??? I was thinking of Higuain(maybe too expensive) or Sturridge. {Ed002's Note - Neither look realistic options.}

Coates is much younger, taller and quitestronger as it looks. Hope, he'd be a big hit. We have already signed many premier league experienced players. Our best buy still is none other than a man not from premier league. Suarez. Hope, coates will have a great impact in the premier league.

Kenny announced about a week or two ago that hes doing great & has returned to light trainnin

Hes stepped up training, he shud be ready for the wolves game,

Capello said on 'Goals on Sunday' that he spoke to Gerrard at the Arsenal game and he was 3 weeks away from been fully fit - he also said he has been training - Like Kenny said middle of September for him to return and id expect Kenny to ease him back in slowly.

Re:Coates, Not sure if everyone knows but part of the hold up is there is a third party ownership of him.
So all parties have to agree the fee although ive heard that Nacional have released coates for a medical on mersyside.
This i think has to be the bargain of the summer signings, i think the figure is in the region of £7m with only part of that going to Nacional due to the part ownership.
Fantastic site guys and a massive heads up for the support on the petition.

Found a link on twitter to newspaper The Independent mentions a fee of £100.000 to 3rd party owners from when he was a trainiee.

If £7m is the proposed fee, we could well have a bargain on our hands. Considering the fee's being banded about for Cahill, the prices paid by Man Utd for 2 largely unproven centre-backs (though they both have great potential). At last someone (mushroom) is talking sense. We have paid far too much money for players we have bought in. Top class players could have been bought for that money. Sorry kk, you got it wrong.

Has your mum took you shopping for you new school uniform yet?

Firstly - WE didn't pay anything for any of them - the OWNERS did.
Secondly - How many times does it have to be said - The so-called TOP players didn't want to come to Anfield.
Thirdly - You should be called toadstool not mushroom as you are poisonous (and not at all constructive)

Who cares how much KK spent on players, he is the manager...Its not you money is it??....SG

Fair enough, BUT, if your'e estimation is prooved wrong , please be man enough to admit it next May.

You obviously don't understand football finances - its about wages and contracts and non of our players are on massive wages compared to so call 'Top class players' and most of them are young so when their contract is to be re-negotiated or they are to be sold they still hold a value.

hi guys!do you think that coates is a better option than cahill?coates is ours or is just a rumour?i think both are good players but i would go for cahill who would you choose?

At this point of time Cahil is better in terms of ability in the Premierleague.
However, I choose Coates. The guy has potential. Cahil has more or less reached his peak, while Coates is a star in the making. He will be our thiago Silva (the chap from Milan who I had not heard about before he became a star for them). Furthermore, Coates will need time to develop, which means Carra will remain first team choice.

Drigan

Obviously haven't seen Coates play much but don't know. But he looks very strong in the air, calm in possession and doesn't take many risks. Cahill is a big threat from set-pieces but relies often on last-ditch defending. Coates looks to me like he reads the game and snuffs out danger early. He's also about 5 years younger and half the price so looks to me a far better signing. As always, though, I trust Kenny's judgment far far more than my own

Red Ollie

24 Aug 2011 10:23:22
do u think coates will be our final addition in this window???

No. If the right players are available at the right price, I'm sure we would endeavour to bring more in.

Players will have to be moved on to make space for the 25 man squad (unless the potential signings are Under 21) but we seem to be making some progress in moving players on.

Mushroom: quite agree with you, we have paid well over the odds (and I mean well over) for Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam.

I would have too agree with you on the over pricing of Carroll and Henderson from what i have seen so far, but Adam wasnt really TOO expensive and Downing is a pretty decent addition in my eyes. Its a big shame KK will feel very under pressure to stick with Carroll due to his hefty price tag as i feel there are plenty of impressive attacking options out there that would be pretty attainable for a team such as our selves.
napolired

So what would you have done? We needed the players for those positions to strengthen and that is what we needed to pay. Should we have bought no one, or should we have paid 24 mill for Nasr iwith a year left on his contract and on wages more than Carrol Henderson and Adam put together. Get a grip and stop thinking about transfer fees, see the bigger picture if you are able to do so!
John Wigan

We've paid "well over" the odds for Adam? So he's worth about 3 million then? Idiot. Judging a player by his pricetag is a lazy trick used by people who can't be bothered judging talent. If we were in dire financial straits and we splashed out 35m on a striker then yeah that would be worthy of comment. But clearly we have the money to spend so it doesn't really matter how much they cost. Judge the players on their performances if you want to see what they bring to the team

Completely agree Blair, the old Liverpool way is back. The Liverpool train is on platform 1 waiting to go, all those fans who are ready for the ride of your lives get on, all the others who want to slag our players off after 2 games and constantly criticise for no reason at all piss off and support another team like City and Chelsea who buy success.

Sooty.

-----------------------------------------------

Sooty I understand what you are saying but in could be conceived that we are trying to buy success aswell. £35m Carroll, £22m Suarez, £20m Downing and £16m Henderson, not exactly cheap a cheap way to go about things.

Expecting criticism
MUSHROOM

Mushroom, you are a mushroom...

I wouldnt say its fees paid for players cuz thts just the way football works nowadays but its the wages tht are making people believe certain clubs are trying to buy the league such as man city with there ridiculous wage bill and players who only care about cash not the the club itself
lfc4lifeynwa

Main reason for not coming on here nowadays to much negativity, even when we win!!

To Mushroom, I think people get a bit too hung up on transfer fees, if we hadnt have got 50 mill for Torres we wouldnt have spent 35 on Carrol. Also you have to take into account the wages that the players we bought in comparison to Citeh for example. Aguero is probably on more than Carrol, saurez and Henderson put together, then you have all the others! Although I do see your point and I think it is valid as we needed to spend to bring our squad up to standard quickly, but I think it is more paying now until our youth starts producing more then we dont have to spend as much(hopefully)! It is about getting a good balance! John Wigan

Who cares how much we are spending! We are buying good players at last and have responsible owners. Good times ahead.

Those who are more conerned about numbers and currencies should support the stock markets, not our club which is all about success.

In KK we trust

Red G

What is this obsession with how much a player cost the club ?
If we need them and they are good enough to play for us , then that is all that should matter to us as supporters.

I remember years ago the first we knew about a signing was when it got in the echo , nobody talked about the price of a player , just glad that we could afford and get him to join Liverpool ?
I am not sure some fans memories are as good , go back 12 months that's when we really had something to be concerned about.
Get behind you team and your manager.
You are 12th man
You'll never walk alone

L1

You're right Mushroom mate, it is one hell of a lot of pound notes.
The problem is now we're all de-sensitised to it. There's so much cash sloshing around at the top end, it's gone beyond all relativity. I mean we'll probably spend £120 mill approx from Jan to Sept, and that's just to catch up FFS.
It's madness in truth.
The Real KB

I agree with 'lfc4lifeynwa' its not so much about the Fee for players as we have always been a buying club not a selling club but its more about the wages and paying players silly wages just to get them through the doors of your club is the exact definition of a club trying to buy success.

YNWA jns

Mushroom why all the negativity???? you need to understand that although the fees might be high, we are not paying astronomical amounts in wages!! So all the people saying we could have bought Aguero...etc etc...for similar money we could never afford to pay their wages or we would have all our squad members demanding wage increases!! Kenny & our owners have got our club back to where it should be, investing in a squad with depth and building for the future!! Look at where we were last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get behind the team and support those players, they didnt place the valuation on themselves!!!
YNWA JFT96

CoolhandLFC

I don't think we are buying success, we are investing for the long term, there is a big difference. City/Chelsea only think about now, hence they splash money about without thought and it's no suprise they attract mercenary players. They then think nothing of doing it all over again every few years, I read Chelsea have spent over £50 million on just hiring and firing managers since Abramovich took over, says it all. Liverpool have spent a lot of money but it has been with a plan in mind, not instant success this season, it's about building a new dynasty like Liverpool teams of old

J.hoover {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure your argument stands up that well. Mercenary players would not tend to spend long at a club. Generally you will find the Chelsea players have been there much longer than those at most other clubs - particularly Liverpool who turn players over at a much higher rate. I am not sure on the total cost of changing coaching staff at Chelsea over the last 8 years but I suspect your figure is about right - and as you suggest, way too high.}

Wow was not expecting this much. I am not negative, there is not one negative point in my post, in fact I am very positive about our prospects, the new owners and Dalglish being back in charge, although I was a bit sceptical to start with.
My post was a simple to answer to one earlier that stated Man Citeh and Chelski buy success. I mearly pointed out that other supporters could deem that we are trying to do the same thing. I see no negativity in that.
To John from Wigan, I agree that transfer fees are no relation to the player and I have posted before regarding this, but a lot of people seem to get hung up on transfer fees. I would take Carroll and Suarez over Babel and Torres any day of the week as I pointed out yesterday.

MUSHROOM

Of course we're trying to buy success...every transfer a club makes is intended to make them more successful. We haven't bought an entirely new team in the last 2 seasons as City have, or as Chelsea did when RA came along. We've signed players to improve a flagging team that needed a shot in the arm. What's your problem with that??

Red Ollie

To be fair ED002 the reason Liverpool have got a bigger turnover is because we have wanted to move them on because they arent good enough(apart from the notable few). Chelsea(since Abramovich) have always been able to splash the cash on top players and pay high wages so it means players are hard pressed to get a better deal and are less likely to want to move on!
John Wigan {Ed002's Note - Sure, I appreciate that Liverpool have repeatedly bought players that have been deemed not good enough very quickly but large amounts have been spent, particularly by Benitez, leaving the club in a poor position. To consider players who have been at Chelsea for years mercenary does not really hold water.}

ED's

Does anybody know if there was an initial intent to sign Dann or Cahill or was this all just a smokescreen in order to make a move for Coates?

Also as I didn't have the opportunity to watch much of the Copa America can somebody rate him out of 10 for me and 'liken' him to another player from what they seen.

Anybody have any further information on this pereira character? He looks tidy on youtube...

Cheers,

RobbehLFC {Ed002's Note - I am not going to rate Coates but there is no "smokescreen" involving other players. Liverpool were interested in Cahill and Dann, there is no question of that. As for Pereira, I am not sure what information you need. Chelsea either have or will likely place a bid for him as a replacement for Zhirkov.}

Just my opinion but to me Coates looks like a cross between Ferdinand and Vidic - dominating in the air, but reads the game well and is comfortable in possession.

Peireira's an interesting one. I think Chelsea are trying to build their team around Torres and Pereira may get a starting place as he has the pace to create chances. Don't be surprised to see them line up like this in the future:

Malouda--Mikel--Lampard--Pereira
Mata
Torres

I've just had a thought (it did hurt a bit). With us playing Exeter tonight, we're obviously not going to want to play all of our best players, as it would make sense to preserve them for the game a Bolton. However, after the embarrassment against Northampton in this cup last season, we're going to want to field a side which will almost certainly take care of Exeter, with no worries. Well thanks to Kenny's colossal squad size, we can. The likes of Kuyt, Spearing, Meireles, Skrtel, Flanno, and other players currently playing a bit-part role in our team will have a chance to stretch their legs and give Kenny food for thought over his EPL first 11.

With this in mind, it may also pay to mix experience with youth. All of the aforementioned have played a part in the Premier League, so maybe it would be good to give some of the up and coming youngsters a small part in the game, or even a start.

I guess what my point is, is that all of these "fans" who have been all doom and gloom after the first two games and have constantly slated our new signings have got it so wrong!! The future's bright, we have one of the best second string sides, in effect, in the whole country, which would get far in the cups whilst we needn't risk tiring out the likes of Suarez, Downing, Adam, Carroll, Henderson (make what you like of them, I personally think once they are properly settled in, they'll be fantastic assets).

We have a fantastic future ahead of us, I don't expect us to win anything this season, but we'll have a hell of a go, and with the squad we have, I can see a lot of success for us in the future.

A.C.

Hope Raheem play today

I agree, go all out to win this cup as it would be nice to go to wembley!
John Wigan

I would hope we used go with a balanced team, of younger players and senior players. I think the starting line up could potentially be Doni, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Robinson, Coady, Spearing, Henderson, Meireles, Maxi, Carroll in a 4-2-3-1. 7

RedSG

If we have a 4-2-3-1-7 formation, I am pretty sure we would win ;0)

Heya Eds great site hugely reliable. I was wandering on your thoughts regarding other new arrivals. Great news about Coates who i'm sure will be a great addition in future years alongside Agger. I am still of the opinion we need two more players to have the strength in squad needed for success. A winger and striker would be ideal. I would like to see adam johnson join and a striker who would stretch defences with pace rodellega would be okay. Finally I would just like to add i hope the rumours about bellamy are not true. Although matching my requirements for a striker i believe him to just be trouble and not good enough. Any news your have or wisdom would be fantastic. Please post!

Agree with you ed., Benayoun would do a good job.

Benayoun n bellamy would do short term , pace n trickery, i wouldnt mind having them, bellamy has a record of been trouble but he be kept in toe by kenny plus his pace hurts

I think the idea is to get players who have probably 2-3 years left who can slot in until the youngsters come through. It is about getting the rught blend between buying short, medium and long term players. I think they would be good impact players if they are happy to not play every game!

It looks like we are about to sign Sebastian Coates which seems like a great bit of business. A word of warning though... remember Mark Gonzalez.
Firstly he was a very promising South American player with a fair few senior caps to his name. We failed to get a work permit for the first season as he hadn't fulfilled the international quota. Has this situation changed - I get the impression the current government are tightening not relaxing work permit rules. Someone posted yesterday claiming he has British ancestry which would help. That is wrong, if he is not an EU citizen he will need a work perit and British ancestry will not make the slightest difference. The second reason for caution is that Mark Gonzalez never set the Premiership alight. The style of play does not suit everyone and it would be a big step up for him. I think he looks very promising but please don't expect him to be another Carra, Hansen or Hyypia overnight.

Bob

His Mum is Spanish! Game over!
kidmillions

Did Luis Suarez need a work permit? I dont think so....

{Ed002's Note - Of course he did.}

Mark was actually born in South Africa my country and is a great RW did not quite make it at pool but has loads of talent!- SA Pudlian

Every player from abroad would need a work permit I presume, just like we would if we went abroad. The point is some are easier than others to get!John Wigan

Hey Ed002, On this note how easy would it be to get a work permit to Russia, as I wouldnt mind going to Anzhi looking at what they pay, 10% of what Eto is on would do me fine. Can you see if you can sort it for me as you seem to have contacts everywhere, 12 months should be enough Thanks very much! Oh as well can you make it to start after September 15th as I am going to your homeland on Saturday for 2 1/2 weeks.
John Wigan

As far as I'm aware, you can be granted a work permit on the grounds of "exceptional talent". I think as Coates has just won the young player of the tournament award at the Copa America it shouldn't be too hard to convince the panel of his exceptional talent

any ideas? {Ed002's Note - IT remains almost certain that Hard will not be playing at Liverpool this season and there is absolutely no chance of any agreement being signed now for next season. The player has made it absolutely clear where he wishes to play.}

A few years ago I had a colleague who boasted that he had a €1400 Rolex watch. At the time I had a watch that cost me €25. One day I asked him the time and he said "eight o' clock". I said "That's funny,my watch says eight o'clock too". The price of a player is not important - the quality is. manchester city have big (and costly) players but big players have (mostly) big egos and don't always gel. In 1966 Italy had one of the best squads in the World Cup. However, the players were split into two camps - didn't gel off the field so they were unsuccessful on the field as well. Fans can criticise all they like but I think that we are heading in the right direction and at a steady pace too.
Dutchmal

I was in a bar one night chatting this georgeous Women up, then in came me Mate with his Rolex watch on Show and she left with him. I went home on me ownl

THIS GORGEOUS WOMAN - Is she still with him? We are not looking for one-night stands - we are looking for a long and successful future. Your mate is a prime example of everything that we DON'T want at Anfield - all show and not a team player - he should have shared her with you! By the way, if your name is kidMILLIONS how come you can't afford a Rolex?
Dutchmal

Can see what your saying Dutchmal, but I cant see any Prem player not being able to afford a rolex. In saying that I have one also, only trouble is every time I wear it I get a green mark on my wrist and cant explain why! I know its a real rolex because the man who sold it me on the motorway services car park assured me it was!!! It has never helped me pull a bird though!

The last time!!! At the moment we still have one and he is a lot better (and unfortunately a lot fatter) than Paletta. At one time he looked a great prospect (which Paletta never did) but it has all gone downhill. However you can't say that because one player is poor that another is also bad.

What do you think i'm not gonna reply to. We get it you like Andy Carroll,or words to that effect. Why pick mine out if it wasn't personal. Red Tomato as well as others have written positive things about on numerous occasions, but no smart asse comments to him. He even to your shock horror no doubt, that we should have an Andy Carroll corner, which i thought was a great idea. No comment on that i see. Once again, I propose that we do not reply or respond in any way to unsigned posts - this will allow real banter and conversation to prevail.

One thing i would like to say before i sign off, is lets start supporting Carroll and Henderson..

Cant believe all the negativity, lets give them a chance..

Everything is starting to take shape, great owners, quality squad and backroom staff..

Lets enjoy it..

Cheers

Macca

I agree macca ive been on a rumour page on fb jus constantly arguing with idiots judging them after 2 games of this season so annoying lol i gave up in the end lol

Couldnt put it better myself macca, makes me happy i let you in the coates rumour mate lol ;)
rodger the dodger

Always talking sense macca fair play mate.. you any more info on yossi was gutted when he left. Also would you think if ngog is sold we will dip into the market again

Well said Macca. If all of these so called fans would like to moan about players then they should support the team across the park, they'd have a field day.
Scouse Pride

I can't believe the negativity after TWO games in which both players have not even played badly and we haven't lost either match!

numondo

Fact is they both played well on Saturday. Watched the game twice.Carroll was creating space for others but the support was not there(maybe Dirk is not the ideal partner)
Henderson was involved in a very big part of our game, his passing was good ,his ball winning was better than some and he was prepared to track opponents back into our penalty box.He has a great engine and I believe will eventually become very popular with supporters.

Ed ,two things do you think dirk kuyt will go to inter Milan and if he does do you think we will sign another striker and if we do who do you think we will sign? Cheers Zincho {Ed002's Note - I don't see him leaving just yet.}

I'm an angry Gooner who really wanted Wenger to buy him... You scousers got a world class defender on your hands now... I hope Wenger pulls his finger out and buys someone before the window shuts!!!

Thats 3 things lol

Caughtoffside says Comolli wants Oscar, the 19 yr old hatrick hero from the u-20 world cup. I know how wonderfully reliable CoS is (HA!) but is there any real basis to this rumour, ed? {Ed002's Note - Sorry, no idea.}

If we finalise the transfer for Coates and then end the window by bringing in Oscar then I think we've had arguably the best transfer window we've had in some time...players to help the team now and the future...

E.D Why dont we have a chance of Adam Johnson
also what do you think off these transfers

Marin

Honda

cahill

Dann

Regards

Trigger61 {Ed002's Note - Johnson is not available and there is no known interest. I very much doubt Marin or Honda. The others have already been discussed at length.}

Could Papiss Demba Cisse be the answer for liverpool striker search?
Back in March he admitted liverpool "dream club" but wants to stay at SC Freiburg.
He has said today he wants to leave SC Freiburg for a bigger club (source: BBC, T-online.de).
It would be a good back up striker imo. he has scored 32 goals in 51 appearances for the bundisliga side.

Just one more quick question tonight Ed's...

I've seen a lot of people's view of Coates, and in all honesty I've never seen him play. Heres the Q: If we have a full squad available, would Coates slot straight into our Starting XI?

Again, thanks for any response.

Thanks, James. {Ed002's Note - He will be bought for the squad.}

And would guess that he'd have the same chances at cb as kelly has had at rb

Ed, what is the story with this Marco Borriello of Roma. Didn't they buy him in June?. So why are they keen to sell him now?

Hi ed's and all red's hope the Sebastian coated deal is done soon as we can't let him slip away like Phil jones especially with only a week left in the transfer market and Nick the Greek gone. In Kenny we trust as we should do the squad is quality now strength in depth is great now Bellamy well worth a punt better than ngog.cheers. ed.jodethered.

I'm sorry but the only player have let slip away is Wickham and he is still an option at the same price at the end of the season. Jones and Young WANTED to go to united and used (especially Jones) Liverpool to get their wish. I said months ago that players like Lukaku, Hazard, Defour, have other clubs in mind than Liverpool. Aguero and Mata were both in a position where they could choose the clubs that they wanted. We as Liverpool fans know that they have all made the wrong decision and we should feel sorry for them and not THE club.
Dutchmal {Ed002's Note - Aguero and Mata could not have chosen Liverpool as there were no offers made for them. They had choices, but Liverpool was not one of them.}

I wonder how many people who post on here have managed and / or played in a title winning side? I'd be surprised if anyone has done either. Kenny Dalglish has done both - so why do we get so many on here doubting his signings.

Houllier and Rafa both had their moments but does anyone think they were ever going to win the Premiership? I don't think so, as they never had the right mentatlity to do it. In Europe, Rafa was unsurpassed but I have more confidence in Kenny bringing home the title after just 8 months in the job than Houllier and Benitez in 10 years. Putting it simply, Kenny knows what it takes to win this league. If he doesn't win it this season I'm still confident he'll do it before long. So, why don't we let him get on with it and stop moaning about what he's paid for players. Would you rather be an Arsenal fan, moaning about Wenger not spashing out?

As for those posters who say we could have had this player or that player for the same money, don't they realise how ridiculous they make themselves look? It's not just the transfer fee, but the wages, will they fit in with Premiership pace? Will they fit in with the teams style of play? What is their character like? Are they looking to use the club as a stepping stone to somewhere else? Kenny and DC have to consider all these things, while the YouTube posters look at 2 minutes of edited clips and think they've found a world beater. Do us all a favour and stick to your Champ Man or FIFA and let the professionals get on with the job. No disrespect to you Editors but I hope KK never reads this site or he would be demoriaised already.

Wouldn't it be nice if people actually tried supporting the players instead of slagging them off or worrying about the price tag. For ffs sake - it's not your money! Carroll will come good, once the rest of them realise how to use him. IMO he needs the type of balls that are stood up, so he can attack them, rather than the flat driven crosses that good defenders can react to first. It was the same with Crouch, who would have been lethal with the right balls sent in.

Henderson will improve once he has more confidence and doesn't feel so overawed at being a Liverpool player. I think Kenny sees him as a Terry McDermott type player, someone who will make runs into the box and score his share of goals as well as assists. Give him time to mature into this role instead of finding fault. It took Terry Mac 2 years to establish himself and look what a player he turned out to be.

It's more difficult than ever to win the Premiership now, with Chelsea and City having unlimited funds and Utd with gates of 75,000 every other week. Liverpool have faced adversity in the past and still succeeded. We'll only do it now if everyone pulls together. Kenny is trying to achieve that on the pitch by creating a squad for all eventualities. So, to the fans, stop moaning and slagging off the players and try supporting them for a change.

redmersey

Yesssss red mersey i love these type of posts.......real istanbul spirit mixed with a great bit of football knowledge, what being a liverpool fan is all about and sets us aside from all the rest my friend, keep them coming sir
and just to let you know ,i have also achieved similar accomplishments as king kenny so i can speak with experience on this one.i have not only played in a double winning side, i was actually player manager, also like are beloved king himself, and to draw even more comparisons, i even scored the title winning goal that season on pitch number 3 on windy harbour,ya know the one where the ball can go into the mrs governs back garden if ya spank it too hard when someone shouts 'if in doubt" im sure you all realise this already though,i cant be the only one whos had to run round and ask for are ball back ;)

Well said, best post in a while, lets keep the negativity off this site, look what kk did in the end of last season and think what he will do with the new signings, everyone has a right to their opinion about the new players but if u honestly think you know more than KingKenny then u really are f@#*#d up in your heads great site eds highly addictive.....kingkennykop7

Only just heard about the Sebastian Coates deal, but it does seem a done deal and I imagine he'll be the newest Liverpool member by Friday at the latest. A brilliant signing IMO, watched him at the Copa America and for a 20 year old he was brilliant, head in the right place, proper solid and he'll be a fantastic addition, no doubt had Luis Suarez in his ear.
Also hearing news on Craig Bellamy re-signing? Think he'd be a good option, we need a striker because if one of Carroll or Suarez get injured we're pretty screwed. Any news on this?
