If we win on Sunday and Spurs lose to Chelsea, we're 5th!

David Moyes on the rumor of Banies joining Liverpool:

"I can't see it. It's not for me that one, and I think they know that as well, " said Moyes.

"Nobody will leave the club unless I say so and give it the go-ahead, and that won't change.

"I don't want to sell him, we have signed him on a five-year deal and Everton sell very expensively; that's what we do.

"We don't sell cheap. That is why he is on a five-year deal. The chairman looks after the players and gives them what he can. So he is not for sale."

Ed, if you had to choose one realistic player to transform the Liverpool team who would it be and why? {Ed001's Note - Alonso, because he can pass like no one else in the world at the moment and Carroll and Suarez would get hatfulls with him providing.}

I would sooner repeatedly slam my testicles shut in a fire door than see Owen back at the club! {Ed003's Note - Ouch! are you sure?}

So where are the natural wide players that Dalglish wants? And Johnson at LB was just a temperary measure to cover injuries. He is far more affective on the right.

29 Apr 2011 23:19:17
Just had a look at the porto team few players other than falcao hulk rolando who we may be looking at:
joao moutinho cm/ cam 24
otamendi cb 22
j rodriguez lw 19
c rodriguez lw 25

what you reckon ed DORSET RED {Ed001's Note - I did wonder about Moutinho, he was so highly rated at one time but the hype seems to have died since then. I would certainly expect the wingers to be at least checked out, after all we all know we are desperate for them. Like I said we are almost certainly watching a few players, though it is conjecture until a bid or enquiry goes in as to which players.}

29 Apr 2011 23:14:58
Who is better c.adam or j.barton or a.aqualin

j.barton is 28 and is not world class so who ever think these are good for us well your wrong

{Ed001's Note - I really am not sure who else is interested in him other than us, I have been trying to go through my notes and find out but they are too garbled and I can't find anything.}

If you forgotten, I asked you this question a few weeks ago and you said that City, Spurs and AC Milan were interested.

Ed do you expect us to try to go after him or another Porto player? {Ed001's Note - thank you mate, I really couldn't remember, I need to sort out my notes properly. Hard to say, there is interest, but it will probably come down to prices, we have a number of players to buy and we aren't going to be able to just go out and get the best players for every position. There is a need to spend a fair bit this summer and Porto would need to be willing to be reasonable and not ask 30m+ I think.}

I don't understand why AC Milan or Spurs would be interested. Spurs need an out an out striker, Hulk is not that. I'd expect them to be Interested in Falcao instead. AC Milan don't need a wide forward either, they have Pato and Robinho who play their. Only way they could want them is if one of them leaves.

City could be the really possibility, Tevez looks on his way and they will want quality replacement(s). I remember reading that they want Sanchez or Aguero. But knowing City they'll probably sell Tevez, and buy Aguero, Sanchez and Hulk.

If we want him we would need Porto to be reasonable with the transfer fee, City to not be in the bidding war and hope the player wants to join, maybe Meireles can have a word :). Then if he did sign, what formation would we play? He's not a typical 442 winger, 433 possible, maybe 343.

So IMO I don't think we'll get Hulk, we might try but I am not sure we could agree a price and I'm not sure how he'd fit into the team.

29 Apr 2011 22:53:58
It dosnt look like where getting Abel Taarbart, great player in my opinion would fit in well as a team player.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

'Adel Taarabt' and 'team player' are two phrases that simply don't go together. This arrogant young man cares about as much about the team as Colonel Gaddafi does about innocent civilians.

A bit of an extreme comparison, I know, but if you watched this kid play in the flesh (as I have) you'll know he is prone to running the pitch only to give the ball away, or shoot when there's quite clearly a better option standing right next to him and, etc. He's great at the fancy stuff that'll make MOTD or the Football League show, but other than he offers pretty much nothing but dressing room disruption.

Yes, defo need a strong tackling midfielder, like Mascherano i think, M'vila, Javi Martinez or Banega would be fantastic i think. Funnily enough, the M'vila + french players rumours seemed to have gone a bit quiet recently, maybe cos of this bloody Barton stuff. . God i hope he doesn't join, what to you think the chances of him joining are ed? mind you he is 28 as well. {Ed001's Note - I think it is highly unlikely to happen, there are a lot of players Kenny likes but we can't buy them all!}

Ed, please may you rate this players out of 10 on how likely it is that they might join?

Dzsudzsak
Hulk
Falcao
Perotti
Marveaux
Wilshere
Gago
Payet
A. Johnson
Cahill
Kjaer
Enrique
Baines
Adam

And last and MOST CERTAINLY LEAST. .Joey Barton. .

Thanks very much. {Ed002's Note - 3, 2, 0, 5, 9, 1, 3, 4.2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 7 and, Barton, let's hope he is another Sanchez.}

29 Apr 2011 21:17:39
Hi ed, great site, who do you think are the mostly likely wingers to sign in the summer? {Ed002's Note - Marveaux}

Sorry, that was a bad gag, but my friend's status was making me giggle just before I read this, sorry will have to share it: My favourite moment today was when they opened the doors and stepped onto the balcony, then they shared a loving kiss. It was so lovely and heart warming to see.} are you on FB Ed? {Ed001's Note - yes mate, but my account is not searchable because I have a lot of pics of my daughter on there and I am far too lazy to adjust the settings! So you can only find me through mutual friends.} what's your name ed? Is it alright if I add you cause I am not from Liverpool or england all together {Ed001's Note - unless you have mutual friends you won't be able to find me at all, my profile is hidden, I only keep it because my family is so scattered and to tart ;o)}

Ed how do you rate our chances of getting Edin Hazard??

I personally think there are no reasons why he wouldn't come.

Has he ever said he won't come to Liverpool??

Please post I really wanna kno your opinion Cheers

Oh and how much would he cost??

Lauren YNWA {Ed002's Note - Between zip and nada.}

Any reasons for the minimal chance or just your opinion?? Thanks

Lauren YNWA {Ed001's Note - he is not keen on the move, he has options he feels are more suited to him and his style of play.}

29 Apr 2011 22:26:09
It seems like ED 2 does not rate the chances of liverpool attracting big name players , if I seem to remember you also played Suarez's chances , let's see what happens with Hazard YNWA

29 Apr 2011 21:21:10
Hey Ed. just wanted your opinion on how many wingers you think we'll bring in this summer? a lot have been linked with us (as expected) and wanted to know if you'd rather look abroad or look to buy from our league? British players tend to be really over-valued in my opinion and just wanted your thoughts on it. cheers Ed. {Ed002's Note - Two.}

Shut up please. Last time I checked this was a rumour/ banter page, not some spelling lesson. I bet you're proud of yourself being able to spell, clap clap for you.

Ed this guy on twitter, Ihatetomhicks linked us with Eden Hazard? He said DC was in northern France and northern UK, what you think? {Ed001's Note - I am sorry I don't anything about him to comment on the validity of his sources, but, last I heard, he is right about the France bit.}

Player may or maybe coming in

Shay Given - If Reina leaving he will ideal replacement - experience with 110 caps and have already work with KK in Newcastle
Hugo Lloris - Similar to Reina style cost 18m may be factor and Arsenal and Man Utd target too
Jos Enrique - Liverpool need a Left back with Premier League experience, excellent passer especially with his long accurate passes and his available this summer.
Leighton Baines - doubt he is going to deadly rival. also he self doubt may stuggle in bigger team like Liverpool
Stephen Warnock - Backup Leftback know the setup of old clubs
Pablo Armero - Excellent attacking Wing back Like to defend also attack but Barcelona also after him
Gary Cahill - Transfer fee is the problem need more than 18-20m to get him also Arsenal and Man Utd are after him. Replace ageing Carragher
Philippe Mexes - Free completing his signature with several european clubs unlike to go to Liverpool slow but with excellent vision
Mamadou Sakho - can play CD and LD prefer London - Arsenal
Phil Jones - ony buy him for future but too many young defender around may not get a chance
Charlie Adam - Is he worth 10m do we need him when we have Lucas which playing similar styles
Moussa Sissoko - We miss mascherano and alonso in midfielder he sit just infront of the defense just like mascherano protect it and hold the ball well.
Yann MVila - if can't sign Sissoko his and options strong and excellent defensive palyer
Javi Martinez - Long Term replacement for Gerrard and setup goals and score goals from long range just like Gerrard
Steven Defour - back from broken leg excellent attacking midfielder could sign as to replace ineffective Joe Cole also have good relationship with Comolli but Man Utd could steal him from Liverpool
Joey Barton - just rumours - true scouser too indiscipline
James McCarthy - unlikely to sign while liverpool got Jonjo Shelvey
Ashley Young need 20m+ to get him quick and can whipping the ball into the penalty area ideal for Carroll latch on his crosses
Adam Johnson - Alternative to Young more like to get him than Young half the price can cut in side from the wing and cause problems to defense
Sylvain Marveaux - He's free and play left winger quick and skillful but problem with groin may need a backup winger.
Matthew Jarvis- backup for Young and Marveaux - good crosser of the ball
Stewart Downing - depending will get Marveaux will cost 12m but doubt with his fitness and injury not create enough goals
Eden Hazard - Great if Liverpool can get him nearly complete attacking player will cost 30-40m but more likely end up in Real Madrid or Barcelona
Gareth Bale - can we afford him 50m
Gervinho- nickname the elephant play left side and up front, strong and quick may need 20m
Diego Forlan - At 31 does he worth £10m Comolli will santion the transfer because there is no resale value
Karim Benzema - can't afford him cost 30m and wages 150,000pw+
Christian Eriksen- unlikely to leave Ajax for the next 2 years when he complete is footballing lesson
Ezequiel Lavezzi - bit like Tevez cost 25m perfer staying in Italy or playing in Spain
Hulk - Strong and Physical Winger thunderlike shot goals ratio 2games per goals may need in excess of 30m to get him
Jeffren Suarez - Desperate to leave Barcelona to get more game but prefer to stay in Spain already have suitor in Spain alternative to Ashley Young
Connor Wickham - 18yrs old may cost in total £10m depend appearances ones for the future
Romelu Lukaku - the next Drogba more like to head to Drogba current

Braking News from Spain is that Xabi Alonso does not want to return to Liverpool as he sick to death of people spelling his name wrong - Mc

29 Apr 2011 21:54:43
In January 2011, Taarabt was interviewed by the Evening Standard, in which he stated: "The man who took me to Tottenham was Damien Comolli, now at Liverpool. He was at Arsenal then. But, when I was going to go to Arsenal, he moved to Tottenham. He told me: 'Come to Tottenham. We want to do like they do at Arsenal and take the best young players in the world. You're going to have a better chance there.' I believed him. This was a mistake and I regret it. Tottenham tried to do it like Arsenal but it's a different culture. I would have had a better chance at Arsenal. I would progress with Arsene Wenger. He is a legend in France, one of the best managers in the world"

It dosnt look like where getting Abel Taarbart, great player in my opinion would fit in well as a team player.

If we are meant to be looking at Barton, that kind of goes against everything FSG have said about looking at young talent, He is 29 this year, so has got a couple of seasons at most, and plus we would never recoup any money if we have to sell him due to his temperament, this deal makes no sense. Ed:- is there any substance in the Lavazzi rumours? I know this guy enjoys a feast and consequently has a weight issue but after watching him at anfield I have to say the only other player that I can recall posing such an individual threat was Drogba when he was at Marseille. Granted Lavazzi's a different type of player to Drogba but I have to say, this guy impressed me when Napoli came to anfield. Fantastic footballer, a bit like Peter Beardsley. {Ed001's Note - there is interest, but there is interest in loads of players so it might never amount to anything.}

Michael Owen set to return on free transfer as back up striker, Kenny really keen on him and thinks he can get some goals out of him, managed to convince commoli as won't be paying high wages circa 25k a week and performance related contract.

Watch this space

Loic Wheelan

Bad signing imo even if free. Here's why:

He can't even get a game at Man Utd. .

Always injured. .

Doesn't fit in with NESV profile. .

Can't really forgive him for leading us on in 2004, then walking out on us. .

Thought he would be clever in 2005 by playing us off against Newcastle. .it backfired on him, as well as costing Newcastle something like 400k per game/ £1m per goal. Bad bit of business by Souey.

He has no loyalty, cared only about playing for England

And finally, I think you will find he is nowhere near the top of the '100 players that shook the Kop' poll. Says it all really.

"James Milner who has obviously fallen foul of Mancini would be a great signing for LFC."

Milner hasn't fallen foul to anyone, he's just an average player that was hyped for a couple of seasons. If anything Mancini has fallen foul to Milner - the second most over-rated player in the premiership along after Lennon.

Meireles in team next season - unbel {Ed001's Note - this makes no sense, there are at least two midfield spots in the team, why does it have to be either or?}

Sorry ed, just thinking if we sign a new CM (seeing as players like Defour and Pjanic have been linked) we would have 3 CMs at max. (Gerrard, Lucas/ Meireles, new CM). Even if we don't sign a new CM we would often be playing 4-4-2 i imagine so it would be Gerrard and Lucas/ Meireles or would Gerrard be on the bench?

Also i was just wondering who people would rather have on their team. {Ed001's Note - surely Meireles would be competing with Gerrard and not Lucas in that role?}

Yeh i suppose so, but isn't Lucas's natural position the sort of Gerrard role? 'Cos i thought he has had to adapt his game to this more defensive role he has played in. Thanks for all the quick responses ed take care. {Ed001's Note - yes, I can see your thinking but I was thinking of how he was being used by us. Plus Meireles and Gerrard in midfield would get torn apart and teams would just run through the pair of them.}

Yes, defo need a strong tackling midfielder, like Mascherano i think, M'vila, Javi Martinez or Banega would be fantastic i think. Funnily enough, the M'vila + french players rumours seemed to have gone a bit quiet recently, maybe cos of this bloody Barton stuff. . God i hope he doesn't join, what to you think the chances of him joining are ed? mind you he is 28 as well. {Ed001's Note - I think it is highly unlikely to happen, there are a lot of players Kenny likes but we can't buy them all!}

Hello ed. Heard a while back that lyon's owner(owner was it?) was saying they had a different price for one team and another for an english team. Do you think all french clubs have this philosophy or is it just lyon? With commolli looking for talent in france, wouldn't this be a hindrance in signing our 'suppossed' targets like m'vila, payet etc.

VM YNWA {Ed001's Note - it is just Aulas that does it, he thinks English clubs will pay more and so far he has been proven correct.}

Gazza from Wales
(PS: Im a Cardiff City fan but i got a soft spot for Liverpool). {Ed001's Note - Westwood is an excellent keeper, but I can't see him signing to sit on the bench. To be honest, other than Marveaux and McCarthy I am not sure I can see any of those players joining us. I also think Spearing is at the age where he needs to be playing if he is to make it, regular football is what he needs)

Thanks for the quick reply Ed001, If Reina does leave (which looks less likely, and im hoping he wont) which would you rather?? Buy a goalkeeper Example: Lorris (Lyon) for around £20-£25million or Westwood (who i also think is a top notch keeper) for free?? (I would like Lorris on a free, but i don't think Lyon would go for that). {Ed001's Note - I would rather go for the best keeper we could convince to join us, it is too vital a position to skimp on.}

cole
maxi
degen
kyrgiakos
aurelio
poulsen
konchesky
jovanovic
jones
insua
ngog
el zhar
aqualani
so 13 out say between 5-7 in

Marveaux would be a excellent addition to the squad.Obviously he needs to stay injury free. He can play any positon across the middle of the park.He as lots of pace and good use of the ball.A similar player on paper to Joe Cole but he as more pace and wages won't cost as much.

First time post, Eds, think you do a top job,

Not a rumour, just think this would be good business and create a good squad for next season which could challenge for the top 4 and maybe the league next season.

Buy:

Westwood (Coventry) think he's on a freebie, Hopefully Reina will stay, Westwood would make a great back up Goalie.
Baines (Everton) £10-£12million, i think this guy is class, with Everton's financial troubles could be available.
Parker (West Ham) £5-£7million, another class act, i know he's a bit older, but will add more steal and class to the midfield, and i think it would give Spearing (good young midfielder who could become great) time to develop. If West Ham go down, could get him for that price.
McCarthy (Wigan) £6-£7million Good young prospect, fits in with NESV (FSG) policy, again, if Wigan go down, could get him at a good price.
A.Johnson (Man City) £14-£16millon, i think this guys awesome, Liverpool fan, fits in with the owners policy. Whould be a great signing.
Honda (CSKA) £10-£12million, great player, could play anywhere in an attacking midfield role.
Marveaux (Rennes?) Free, good squad player.
Pacheco (Back from loan) very good talent.

Good players on not to expensive wages (because 30grand or over a week is not much lol).

Net Spend between £45-£50million

Sell the dead wood

J Cole £4 Million (After paying back money owned, probably get £1 million back)
Aquaman £14million (Juventus) again, after money owned, would probably get around £8million back.
and the rest would probably make between £25-£30million and free up a lot of wages.

Team for next season:

Reina
G.Johnson
Agger
Kelly
Baines
Parker
Gerrard
Meireles
Saurez (on the right of an attacking three)
Carroll
A.Johnson (Left)

Squad
GK: Reina, Westwood, Gulasci
RB: Johnson, Flanagan
LB: Baines, Robinson
CB: Agger, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Wilson or Ayala (1 loaned out to Prem side)
DCM: Parker, Lucas, Spearing
CM: Gerrard, Shevley, McCarthy, Meireles
AM-WG: A.Johnson, Honda, Sterling, Marveaux
Str: Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt, Pacheco

Good squad, with a mix of experience and youth, players who can interchange in different positions.

Sorry about the long post, Eds, i would love to hear what your opinions of this would be. Please post on rumours page, thanks.

Queens Park Rangers are lining up a summer move for Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole.
The 29-year-old has struggled to force his way into the first team at Anfield since his fanfare arrival from Chelsea last July and is expected to make a swift return to London, with Tottenham and former club West Ham both reportedly keen on securing his services.
But Qpr remain favourites to lure England international Cole back to his home town by willing to match the £90,000-a-week wages he currently earns at Liverpool.
Cole has struggled to settle into life on Merseyside and is understood to favour a move back to the capital, which has opened the door for the Hoops to herald their return to the top flight with his capture expected to be the first of many new faces arriving at Loftus Road in the close season.

- - A cross between Malouda and Valencia.
(Maybe he has litte bit of Aurelio in him, gets injured very often. But a good player anyway.)

Whoever posted the Stuart Ripley answer, cheers & I think that proves the point. All top sides have decent width. They don't have to be world beaters just good & work hard. Way back Forest had John Robertson, Leeds had Kewell, Arsenal had Limpar, Man U Giggs, Chelsea Robben. We need the new Highway or Barnes, the rest of the team has good 1st choices with half decent back up. .we are 4 signings from being back to the top. ALB

I've seen a lot of rumours going round about who we are going to sign, these are my favoured options. .

Sakho(Paris Saint-Germain)
Baines (Everton)
Marveux (Rennes)
Eriksen (Ajax)
Honda (CSKA Moskow)
Jarvis (Wolverhampton)

I'd also like to see Flannagan and Robinson used again next season as well as the introduction of Sterling, Coady, Morgan and Suso.

And everyone is talking about signing a back-up striker, we don't need one we have Pacheco.

Not posted on here for a long time but I love all this speculation and guess work. Lets look at the facts. We know there will be a lot of coming and going over the summer (I strongly believe more going than coming) We also know we have a set transfer policy (ie young and value for money with a potential for profit on sell on value if needed.) Also we know we have in the past gone for quantity and not necessarily high quality. And as an aside something has clearly been said to the senior players to make them stay (sg, jc, and in particular jr) Also there must have been something promised to bring suarez to anfield. I believe there will be high quality ins ( I strongly believe alonso is on way back even though he goes against youth policy)and at least one marquee signing otherwise what has changed to keep players happy (so don't rule out players of the calibre of aguero and hazard or even better).
the future is bright the future is red

What does marveux play like which premiership player is he like"

I would say a left footed Aaron Lennon or Theo Walcott, maybe not quite as good as either of those two. Fast, decent on the ball and can take on players, but sometimes his final ball, cross, shot, pass etc is a little poor. He is very injury prone, similar to Fabio Aurelio.

This is not going to be the most popular post by all means but here it goes, over the past few games we obviously played without Gerrard and played very well, which made me think do we really need him now that he is pushing on a bit in age, do not get me wrong he is a superb player and was for Liverpool for the last 10 years but every dog has his day everything seems to have to go through Gerrard when he plays and when he looses it or play breaks down he does not chase back like he used to and poor Lucas end up doing 2 jobs. similar to this situation is the German team in the world cup everything went through Ballack and when he was out for finals the team bloomed (all the younger lads)personally i would like to see Gerrard as the holding midfielder to spray balls around as well as break play up, its not a slating just an observation.
Can you post in rumours Ed and what are your feeling on this matter {Ed001's Note - I have been saying this for a while, while Alonso was here I got slated on a lot of forums for saying he was more important to the team. I really think that it is time Gerrard's role was curtailed or he goes back to the Gerrard of old and forgets all the coaching he has received over the years. We don't need Gerrard to conserve his energy so he can last the full 90 minutes, we need the Gerrard who just bursts a gut to get forward and chases everything. Sometimes coaching can be detrimental to a player and Gerrard is the perfect example of that. Gerrard was the best midfielder of his type, he just needed to be left to be Gerrard, instead the coaches decided being Gerrard wasn't what we needed. I will never understand that.}

Hi ed, any news on kenny and FSG giving him the contract. . .it's taking a bit of time and im getting a bit anxious! thank you! {Ed001's Note - these things take time and are complicated by Comolli and sorting out the delineation of responsibilities. Plus Kenny wants Steve Clarke to stay on and that contract has to be sorted too. I have no doubts an announcement will be made at the time perceived by the club and FSG as the right time. Personally I would wait until the season is over, otherwise there is a fear that you would get the usual effect after a caretaker appointment is made permanent. Usually results drop off, by doing it after the season that should nullify that effect and instead turn it into a boost ahead of next season.}

Well That's the joys of living on the same tower block next door to a couple of lesbians.

Right, anyway, back to the Hulk thing, we have had Porto watched, we have lodged an interest in at least two of their players (I am not really sure what that actually means myself, I have always assumed it means we have asked to be kept informed of any bids for them or if they are available or not). I can't be entirely sure, though maybe Ed002 will be able to tell you if he reads this, but I am told Hulk and Rolando are the most likely players of interest. But I don't believe there to have been any bid placed yet.}

I think if we get young & any of the others linked with a decent left foot cross in them we'll cause havoc next season. KK did it with Wilcox & whatisname at Blackburn & how average where they(I can't even recall the other ones name yet they won the league so that proves it, it's all about the sum of the parts). KK the genius is in the simplicity. KK the new Shanks the legacy re-ig-nited(& so should Kenny be)ALB

Brother-on-law lives in Milan, and the roumour going round at the moment is as follows:
Sneijder is off to the Mancs, for a fee in the region of £30m, and Inter have made a certain Steven Gerrard their top target as his replacement.
Inter are struggling finacially and they see Gerrard as a quality and, in view of his age, fairly cheap replacement.
Apparently (and this is also part of the rumour in Milan), Inter have already been in contact and initially offered an exchange option, with Eto'o and Pandev on offer.
Personally, I think Eto'o would be an absolutely perfect buy for the club - Scored where-ever he has played and works hard for the team.
No fee for Gerrard has been quoted (if we do not want a swap), but I am sure £12-£15m would be enough and, before everyone slates me saying he is worth a lot more - - - be honest, how many 'quality' games has he had in the last 2 seasons???? - Not many, and a lot of our best performances have taken place when he has been sidelined.
Absolute legend, but time to let him go while we can still get some money for him!

Not much quality? Only because the rest has one or two good days while he's injured, doesn't mean we're independent of him! I've watched some pretty good Gerrard games the last year, I dunno if you remember his hat-trick against Napoli? If we want to aim for the trophy next year, we'll need captain fantastic, and if others are outplaying him of the first 11, he should at least be on the bench! To sell the captain, would be telling ourselves to spend one more year in nowhere land!

To the guy who wrote this:

"To answer all these marveaux questions
window opens 1st of june . . he'll sign then

If you were Mr. know it all, you would know that the transfer window opens on the 1st of JULY.
You would also know that the Marveaux rumour is false.

Not a rumour as such but i for one cannot wait for the close season to arrive.
the quality of players we are being linked with makes me think we could finally mount a serious challenge for the title next season.lets hope we can do the deals as quickly as possible and get the new signings together as soon as possible to help gel the squad together.
we already have the nucleus of a very good side and on our day we can beat anybody in the premier league and europe.
what we lack is consistency to go on a unbeaten run or to pick up wins when we play badly.
3 or 4 quality signings with 1 marquee signing and the sale of players who should never have been at the club in the first place will see our club up there challenging for honours like we should be.

would all be great additions along with regular first team appearences of flanagen, robinson, kelly, suso and sterling.with the new owners appearing to be genuine investors looking to put this great club back where it should be then i believe the good times are just around the corner.i know we can't win every trophy we enter but to be back in the mix and no team wanting to be drawn against us will do for me!

I don't think the middle would be thin with the wingbacks doing the wingers jobs of getting down the line and crossing leaving a midfield of 3 Gerrard Merieles plus another and Luis(god bless him) pulling out wide to support the wingbacks. All ideals i know but it looked good against Chelsea and we didn't have the quality of players im suggesting in that match.

Our away form has been terrible again this season. we don't seem to be able to grab unlikely wins or draw like manchester united.i think next season we should play the 3 at the back with two attacking wingbacks we have one with glen on the right and we need a attacking LB like coentrao or bastos, players who can defence but are better going forward, imagine a away day back 5 of Johnson. .Kelly. .Carra. .Agger. .Coentrao/ Bastos add a DM(M'Vila) in front of them and you've got a quality attacking fortresss what do you think ED {Ed002's Note - It leaves the middle very thin.}

Will people lay of Jonjo Shelvey!

The lad is 19 for crying out loud, and is his first season is PL so he cannot be expected to be up to pace just yet.

Do you remember Lucas when we first got him? He had some downright awful displays and with hands down, I admit I wanted him sold. Now however, I gladly accept I was wrong and now he is an integral part of our team.

Jay Spearing hasn't come into the squad until he was 22, and Lucas is now 24. Give the poor lad some time, imagine the pressure he is under. He will be a good player given time.

I read in tommy smiths book that frank worthington was found to have a certain - ahem - social disease shall we say. And Shanks binned him when he found out.
But, if u think, all through 70s & 80s, the players were almost all Scousers, northeners, Scots.
More of them, I say !

A few years ago people were burning Gerrard shirts over a proposed move to Chelsea and Madrid; saying he would be a traitor. Now we have those same fans trying to say that we should sell him and cash in on him; you are hypocrits and disgust me and many fans. Raul played at Real his whole life and was proposed to move and fans hated the suggestion; they then wanted him gone.

These one club men should never have left/ leave; you don't hear mancs saying to cash in on scholes and giggs 5-6 years ago. You are worse than mancs if you want Gerrard gone.

Exactly spot on mate well done I remember coming home from school deflated at the thought of my hero leaving Liverpool for chelsea i stuck on sky sports news and the first thing I saw was rick parry sayin "Gerrard has decided to stay" I was elated and I thought everyone felt the same.yes he's gettin on a bit but why the hell can't he retire at Liverpool? Why do we need to sell him? Makes no sense to me. I'd rather have an icon like him in and around the club than any valuation being banded about. .

Not so much a rumour but worth sticking a tenner on liverpool to grab 4th spot at 33-1. I can see us winning all of our remaining games and man city dropping points due to tevez injury and focusing on fa cup final. Also see spurs losing points to us and chelsea and maybe more as theyve been on a bit of a rubbish run since exiting champs league

Ed001,
Re my post on LFC scouting policy of years gone by, of which Kenny was a product.
Do you feel that policy influences Kenny today?
Up to 1986 the background of a player was of great importance prior to their signing. And very succesful it proved too. Is this still of importance in our recruitment. We hear of interest in some good players ( Barton, Nzogbia eg ) with lots of baggage. No way would Shankly have signed these types !
KB {Ed001's Note - Shanks tried to sign Frank Worthington for Liverpool, who also came with lots of baggage, it was only a failed medical that put paid to the deal. But yes, both Kenny and Comolli do believe that the background of a player is important. But it is more a case of researching if he is likely to settle in ok in the area, finding out what kind of needs a player would have to get the best out of them etc.}

29 Apr 2011 12:55:16
Of all the transfers in lists I've seen on here only a couple have had Connor Thomas in them. I've not seen much of him but was wondering if we're likely to be signing him up or not?

Does anyone else find it strange that regarding transfers we hear nothing from the club or Kenny at all, the newspapers and tv are full of fanciful speculation and lazy journalism and yet all of a sudden there seems to be alot of information regarding Joey Barton that's not even particularly hard to find? I can't seriously see it happening ( the transfer of Barton to Liverpool ) and believe the speculation is either a over hyped piece of lazy journalism, pundits and the media adding 2 and 2 together and getting 7 or and this is my favourite although probably the least realistic, Kenny is using this story to flush out leaks and knows by neither confirming or denying the rumour that the medias and more importantly other clubs will continue to have no idea who we will be signing whilst the fans would realise that its a joke. I mean Liverpool signing Joey Barton that's a good one Kenny, is Gary Neville joining too? Hehe.

Hiya all / eds
Was just reading a review of the book about Geoff Twentyman, the ex LFC scout from 60s to 1986.
He & Shankly agreed upon a policy of bringing in talented but mainly unearthed young players, and few established stars.
Interestingly most, with barely any exceptions, were northern English, Scots or Welsh. Shankly's preference for players often of working class parents - miners, dockers etc.
Just a v interesting insight and a complete contrast to the current times.

Look, players don't know what transfers are happening, especially a 13 year old kid! I was recently in a film with Alan Bennant , a player for Wycombe, (he wants to go into acting when he retires) and he said that the players don' think about transfers, that they just wait till the end of the window to see who's signed.

Just saying,

To the person who wrote, that Joey Barton his no more of a thug than andy Carroll, I will remind you of some of his misdemeanors. He stubbed a a lit cigar into a youth players face. He beat up a 15yr old boy on a pre season trip.He assaulted a man city player after an argument.He was sent to prison for his attack on a lad outside macdonalds.If you havent seen the footage, it was extremely vicious and cowardly.He as also been alledgedly involved with incidents with a taxi driver in Liverpool and a unproved racist remark to an Aston villa player.Joey Barton is the best player in the world, according to Joey Barton. He as a really big egoand he does not deserve an opportunity to play for LFC which in my opinion he never will.

Good afternoon all and Eds. .

I have been told that the Joey Barton rumor is indeed a smoke screen to take the focus off Enrique. Apparently the interest was there but the story was leaked by his agent in order to drum up interest and the price. .

LFC under king kenny have a zero tolerance towards this kind of tom foolery and therefore DC has dropped his interest. . No idea who he will go for now but since a left back is a well known requirement for the club it is plausible that one of many mentioned in the papers may be bid for. . Abidal, Baines, Conetrao, Insua's return etc all all possible.

I have a message for DC! we MUST sign HULK. play Suarez just behind hulk and Carrol. . I'm no manager but i know how the game is played and i'm sure you will all agree that aside from the 'asides'. . he is just Brilliant!
he is quick, can dribble, has good vision, shoots like a cannon and can get past people. . or RUN them OVER. .

please please please please get this guy! !
he has regular Champions league at Porto so it is something he has already done! he might want to ply his trade in the prem. we should do what it takes. . he will pay back his transfer value (20 mil or so) in goals and shirt sales within a season!

He is just a better version of Roonie. .in virtually every respect and is a really nice guy to boot! (i hear). . he will learn our pass and move style well and is young. .

I have been told that currently United, Chelski and the Milan clubs are watching him along with Man s**tty. Manu are interested as Roonie may well leave for Madrid (remember beckham, rudd deals?) and he is just a better replacement who is not crazy and has even more flair and a better personality.

WE WANT HULK
Petition the owners!
Beg the KING!

after that we can win the league, get more money and go after the rest of the Marvel clan ;) i hear superman is unsettled and wants a move. .

lol.
PS Ed: pure speculation as i have only HEARD the above. all of it.

Red Winger {Ed002's Note - There are no smoke screens I am afraid.}

------------------------------------

Assuming that Gerrard wants to uproot his young family and move to italy for a relatively short spell, money not being a problem for him and him being so close to KK can you really see it happening?. His experience is invaluable even behind the scenes in helping the youngsters which we finally have coming through and he isn't exactly over the hill! anyone agree??????

Piatti seems to be heading for Atletico Madrid or Valencia (probably the team that do not get Arda Turan).}

Based on Ed002's opinions on LFC targets and their destinations, I predict the following will happen - They'll all go to either At. Madrid or Valencia ;).

Let's be honest here lads, none of us has got a feckin clue have we? I expect some big surprises and a real push for the title next season. As Jon Bon Jovi once said, keep the faith! YNWA!

How are the loan players doing? Amoo, Ayala, Pacheco, Eccleston, Darby etc? The experience of going on laon is more beneficial than staying with the reserves, after maximum two season in the reserves players need to get experience to gain that extra strength and know how (as a Mr Dave Shannon once told me). If the have progressed enough they may be involved next year with the first team squad? {Ed002's Note - Or sold because they have spent the loan period in teh shop window.}

1st time poster

just wondering alot of people are talking of subotic as a good young defender but do you tink that maybe liverpool should put in a cheeky bid for his team mate hummels is just as good as subotic and around the same age (think hummels abit younger not sure tho) as we need a good young centre back he wuoldnt be cheap but he would be worth it. .and also heard of young german winger Marco Reus plays for Borussia Monchengladbach but is he actually good?

what you think eds ?

Dean_lfc

{Ed002's Note - It seems to be a common suggestion that Liverpool take this "cheeky bid" approach. Fortunately they are much too professional to do such a thing, but if they did they would soon become the laughing stock of Europe - wandering from club to club making low bids. Hummels will likely stay at Dortmund - or perhaps move to Inter Milan. If Liverpool are interested they know the process they have to follow. Marco Reus has been playing very well recently and has the interest of Dortmund and Bayern.}

Ed, only three players in the Prem have crossed the ball more than Leighton Baines this year.

He's good a defending, English and would surely be available at the right price. Furthermore, he seems like type of guy that KK would want to sign.

So, is it safe to assume that he is one of Liveprool's top targets this summer and in your opinion how likely is it that he will make the move?

Adam {Ed002's Note - I don't think it is safe to assume that he is one of Liverpool's top targets, but there is a chance that there may be interest and that he may make the move.}

Not a rumour Just some wishful thinking. Our so called midfield crisis can be fixed with with one acquisition and that's fredy guarin of fc Porto. My reasons are his pace strength shooting and passing ability would be perfect for us. Have 2 future captains of their countries lucas and guarin fighting with captains of club and country gerrard and meireles for midfeild spots. I think he would cost a bit of cash since he just signed a contract till 2014 if I'm not mistaken. Porto are going to win the el and clintched their league. So I don't see why he wouldn't be open to the move. Everyone around the world is afraid, why? Because we Liverpool the greatest club in the planet is back I sense the fear ha ha ha

Funny mate. {Ed001's Note - I am sure Jose will return to Chelsea when he leaves Madrid, yes. What is funny about it? Do you have some info regarding that to share with us all?}

No. answer my question. .how can AVB "replace" Mourinho at Chelsea when he manages R-E-A-L-M-A-D-R-I-D. {Ed001's Note - try reading it again and stop trying to be clever as it clearly is alien to you. I never said this season did I? So clearly I was talking about the future, in other words after Jose returns to Chelsea. Is it really so difficult to understand?}

Lol Ed has some TOP SECRET INFO. .Mourinho is STILL in charge of chelsea. No wonder Chelsea was a mess. .two managers one team = chavski!
Btw no chance AVB will go to chelsea this summer. Mark my words. {Ed001's Note - obviously you can't read either, I said AVB is unlikely to leave Porto just yet.}

Last I new Mourinho was at Real Madrid. Unless Chelsea signed him last night. And do you really know Ed001 what AVB is thinking???? I would assume not.

Read closer Ed001 as I have never said where or when AVB nor Mourinho will go anywhere. You have. I do however believe that you nor I have any idea where either is going. I feel that fsg policy has been greatly misunderstood , the policy is to get young players who can have a resale value later on and also players who are cheaper than what they cost in terms of transfer market irrespective of age
.If you look at the redsox transfer dealings you will see that they signed a few 30 somethings . . Red Guy {Ed001's Note - baseball players can play at their best for a much longer period as a rule. They regularly play at the top level at 40 years of age.}
That is not say that footballers play up till they are 40 , just merely poinying out that a lot of players 28 -30 have been discounted to sign for liverpool because they don't fall into the fsg policy. .footballers can play up to their mid 40's if they take care of themselves. A lot of comments that so and so won't be bought because they dnt fit into fsg policy just pointing out that fsg just dnt buy into age more into value. .
Red Guy {Ed001's Note - I was just pointing out that there is a major difference between the two sports and so it is not really easy to compare. I guess you meant mid 30s and not 40s too?}

Not trying to start a rebel alliance or anything, but why do we always ask macca for stuff. why do we believe his stuff over other people? has he said stuff that's turned out to be true before? because all he's saying at the moment is that it was benzema, young, adam and enrique (i think) and now he;s saying it might all change. so eds/ users, why do we hold him in such high regard, just wondering

Many players will be attached on a free transfer
-Bosingwa
-Pirlo
-Marveaux
-Klose
-Elmander

What chances to get 2, 3 of them?
And is there any more players to get on free? What do u think Ed? {Ed001's Note - the only ones of them worth considering are Klose and Marveaux, then only if you get the Klose that plays for Germany, rather than the one who turns out for his club sides. I would hope we won't be wasting our time with any of the others, to be honest I hope the only free we sign will be Marveaux as Klose is getting on a bit. You did miss out Wendt, though I personally don't rate him, he was terrible in the Champions League.}

I personally don't believe barton will come in the summer, he really doesn't fit the criteria of what we are after, there's no doubting he's technically adept but his attitide, age and overall disruption would not be worth the risk. Kind off reminds me of lee bowyer In a way, the anfield faithful will turn the tide on this potential signing. Kenny is not stupid, he would not want to damage the harmony in the squad he so carefully has instilled in recent weeks. Next season looks good, I think meireles will have bedded in fully, with a full pre season under his belt playing our pass and move game. A fully fit gerrard would add a strong dynamic edge to our team, with Steve doing what he does best, with better player taking away that perception were a one man team. I can't believe people were slating Shelvey, he's nineteen, represented England at youth level. You don't get 50 games in the championship and league one for being an average player. I've watched and analysed him since a recommendation from my friend who had trials with charlton in his age group (im 19 myself) and took note ever since. He rejected chelsea and scum as well, trust me future star. He's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of youth prospects , but they need to be nurtured right to harness the potential, I expect sterling, coady to get some minutes, maybe Morgan and suso if they continue to progress, potentially wisdom as well, there is a new breed of determined players giving us a depth and variety, with a few class additions we will be a force, Carroll and particularly suarez will be even better with a forged understanding over the coming months. I believe width is in order, young could be an astute stopgap with decent resale value with potential to be a class asset. Maybe payet or turan, I would love Johnson but it would be a complicated deal to deal. Marxveus would be a decent signing, a different option to what we have. Maybe a young determined hungry striker, u would like lukaku, raw pace and power, he could be nurtured whilst offering support for Carroll and suarez. Maybe a cb, I like Phil Jones, looks beyond hid years and fits nesv policy, he can also play holding midfield, like m'vila another potential sound deal. Would love xabi back but failing that martinez would be a cracking signing. Maybe an unexpected big signing may come in, who noes anything is possible. A decent left back is required, try to get chiellieni for aqualani lol but what I'm saying is things look bright. Were in for agood new season, have hope.
Any thoughts?, ed 001 or 002?, I've grown fond of your opinions, stone YNWA or Blaiir?

Red sheepy {Ed001's Note - I do agree on Shelvey, far too soon to judge the lad, he hasn't adapted yet, but it is his first season in top flight football.}

I don't think we should buy Charlie Adam. .Even the thug Barton is 10 times better than him. We should go all out for Nuri Sahin if BD is willing to sell him and of course if he is willing to leave. Fergie can have Adam for 20 million. .i mean his corners are worth 10 million alone.

KK the new Shanks the legacy re-ig-nited(& so should Kenny be)ALB

why on earth would he be intrested in barton? i really think he needs to leave the scouting to liverpools scouts and choose from that, if he wants someone that's home grown then give a reserve a try, eccleston, ince or amoo. don't go by a old dude who isn't going to be around that long for 5m then later sell him for 1m where is the sense in that. i'd say let him deal with players going out as he is the manager but don't give him the time of day to choose who we buy unless that is Turan.

Ha, I take it all back. Our best man has just said "I want to say a few words about this magnificent couple. .oh & a few about the groom as well!" my wife still hasn't figured out why it's so funny yet clear as day on the dvd he's standing behind us looking down her dress as he says it. If you're watching Harry there's a good idea for tomorrow mate. ALB {Ed001's Note - that's class!}

I hope if we do go in for barton that he rejects it as he will have no FUTURE at liverpool.

To the poster earlier compairing Joey Barton's behaviour to Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez. . .Barton is a complete utter scumbag whilst he isn't the worst player in the world would you want our club to pay him 50k+ a week and say there you go kids aspire to be like him? As for Carroll I'd never condone what he allegedly did but he's a kid and has time to grow up who better than the king to show him the ropes. .which brings us to Suarez. .what he did at the world cup if I was his teammate I'd worship him last minute at world cup he's going home anyway would you not do the same?I wonder how many managers were saying I wouldn't touch that MARADONA with yours he's a cheat! ! Get a grip of yourself!
