I did try to resist doing this but i just couldn't help it. A parting song for Torres (I think it could get tweaked to be sung at chelski fans in general when they are losing to us too). Anyway, Enjoy :)

"The Moody Blue" or "the Moody Blues"

- (Sung to the song "Go Now" by The Moody Blues)

We've already said.

Goodbye

Since you gotta go

Oh you had better go now

Go now, Go now, Go now, oooooh

Before we see you cry

We don't want you to tell us just what you intend to do now

Coz how many times do we have to tell you moody blue

WE ARE THE BEST, NOW AND FOREVER

Oh-whoah o o o

We've already said.

So long

We don't wanna see you go,

Oh you had better go now

Go now, Go now, Go now, oooooh

Don't ya even try.

Telling us that you really don't want it to end this way

But moody blue

Can't you see, that WE ARE THE BEST

Yeaaa- eaaa - eaaa - eaah

Since you gotta go

Oh you had better go now

Go now, Go now , Go now, oooooh

Before we see you cry

We don't want you to tell us just what you intend to do now

Coz how many times do we have to tell you moody blue

WE ARE THE BEST, WE ARE THE BEST, FOREVER

Oooooooooo

We don't wanna see you go

But baby blue, you'd better

GO NOW!

I agree don't burn liverpool tops with torres on them because youre also burning liverpool badge

04 Feb 2011 23:39:31
I agree with all but your first sentence & last sentence Blair. You're dead right!
It's such a disappointing attitude some folk have!
We should be happy with what we have & move on!
Even if we get stuffed 6 - 0 on Sunday!
Move on people!
This is not what LFC is about.
If any shirt burning happens on Sunday i'll be disgusted for one!
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

What people should realise Kev when they are burning the shirts. It's not just the name they are burning on the back, they are also burning the badge on the front. Which for me, is probably the most cardinal sin of them all.

Just a little tip from a United supporter. Top player leave. Ronaldo, Beckham, Cantona, Van Nistleroy etc. As a supporter, you are gutted and think it can only get worse, but things usually gets better.

Do not under estimate Suarez and Carroll. Suarez is class, and Carroll is a bull of a centre forward who is fantastic in the air. I hate to say this, but your forward line is much stronger now, after getting rid of a bloke who didn't want to play for Liverpool for some time.

In my opinion you need a couple of class wide players desperately, and you will be up there.

United/ Liverpool obviously have a fierce rivalry, but I have no problem in saying (no matter what flak you give) that I respect Liverpool above all other clubs, because you are the same as United in terms of heritage, history and passion etc. Thats why we are desperate to beat each other.
Torres has gone to a meaningless club. Whatever they win, there is no acheivement and means nothing, because they are just a rich man's play thing and not a football club. Get over Torres now!

Oh. .and f*****g beat Chelski on Sunday!

If people don't want torres on there jersey it can easily be removed using a towel and an iron.just put the towel over the name and press down on towel with hot iron, glue on numbers will heat up and can be peeled off.simple!keep the no 9 and just get carroll on instead, happy days!also reckon we should start the same team on sun as against stoke, with carra in instead of soto.suarez isn't ready for a full game just yet, could win it for us off the bench.what you think eds?

{Editor Note: Certainly more constructive than burning the shirts. There is a "football for Africa" website and the shirts can be sent to Africa for children or adults and getting a Liverpool shirt would mean a heck of a lot to people in Africa. And I would start Suarez personally, I'm so eager for him to get games, but that's just me.}

I do think Steve Clarke is a very good coach and a very good appointment, but as Blair said Pavo is a fitness coach and an excellent one at that and would work well with the current set up alongside kk and Steve Clarke.

Kenny seems to be happy with the staff he has in place Bob. And it seems to be working. If Paco could bring more to us and Kenny wanted him, then why not take him back. But things seem to be stable within the whole club now for the 1st time in 3 years. So "If it isn't broke then don't try and fix it" as they would say mate.

WTF has happened to this site?

Burning shirts? Attacking players? I can't believe what i'm reading, i really can't.

We are Liverpool fans not f*cking Manc's! And to even respond to Chelski fans is beneath us. We are better than that, we are smarter than that. This is all because a player left us. If we did these things everytime a player left us, then i wouldn't be supporting this great club. And would want nothing to do with it's fans. The main reason why i support this great club is not because of the players, managers, trophys etc, but more because of the fans. We are more than just a club, we are a family and will always be here. Managers and players come and go but we will always be here.

Sorry if this makes no sense at all, but i'm so f***ing angry we our talking this way. All because a player left us SO F***ING WHAT he's gone time to move on.

Blair Mayne YNWA

PS. I wouldn't start Suarez on Sunday it's to early. .

Ha , look how "happy" ancelotti looks stood next to tosser on the ssn webpage.

Ha! Noticed this earlier.
Must know something we don't or maybe it's because he knows if it doesn't work - he's sacked!
Abramovich may have been the one who sanctioned the move but you just know Carlo will be the fall guy when it all hits the fan (hopefully).
And i second the - Don't burn the shirt thing request.
We're better than that.
You've gotta move on! He has.
Imagine seeing his face on camera (the shock on it) if he hears us singing his song one last time instead on Sunday.
Don't let the Chelsea "fans" beat you to it either - get in there first as the game kicks off! Come on!
Please don't burn yer shirts! Just enjoy the match!

There's a chance for sure no?!
But maybe Mourinho / that Boas Villas guy might be approached.
Carlo is gone though unless the win the Champions League. Abramovich is obsessed with it!
What odds on Woy getting it : )

From what I can gather he left to go to club in spain (just rumours that I heard) which is why i was suprised to find he lives in the wirral. If it his the right Paco that is. . and if it is he clearly loves England as he has kept a house here for the last 6 odd years.

Ed , Bob do you not think that we have the best "coach" around in Steve Clarke?

Here at LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB we leave the arrogance to the mancs. Our history speaks for itself. Its something we are proud of and it does not mean we live in the past, but what does a chelsea fan know about history? You have none. Class? Take a look at our manager alone. Sad? You just paid our "sad" club £50million for an over the hill, injury prone, uncommited striker. Plastic? Lmfa0! That is just too easy. . Face it, we are a legendary football club with legendary fans, whereas you are just. . Chelsea. Nuff said.
Red bl00ded!

Im a Chartered Surveyor and during the games this season I've been doing a bit of a feasability study in my mind to determine where the merit exists for cost effectively improving the capacity at Anfield. Stadium refurbishment/ reconstruction isn't my area of practice but analysing on a purely cost effective construction basis I can only see raising the top tier of the Main Stand to emulate the Centenary and fill in the corner between the Kop and the main stand as the way forward. This may create an extra 10-15% capacity and minimise disturbance. Any thoughts?
, , , , , , ,
so if you went into a lap dancing bar you would spend all yr time checking the walls and roof?lol

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

No I'd do a feasability study of the pole to determine whether its suitable to accomodate the weight of the dancer using it. I've been looking around at half time/ after game as personally I wouldn't want to leave Anfield, so theres no need for the sarcasm as clearly this is an issue fo debate. I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy if a deal was done with Everton to build a joint stadium in Stanley Park.

04 Feb 2011 22:05:24

Have to agree, dont boo or abuse torres, we are better than that, support who is in the shirt, anyone else doesn't matter, i honestly think torres will regret his transfer within 12 months, we should also be looking at alex smithies, huddersfield , as a long term keeper option, rob

04 Feb 2011 22:00:26

Come on mate, of course I didn't mean it, it was tongue in cheek!

{Editor's Note: You need to appreciate that there are others who are saying things perhaps not so tongue in cheek. Such commentary belongs in the depths of KopTalk with those who wanted direct action on H&G and those who demanded and got direct action against RBS, who may well have been saviours of Liverpool. You would perhaps understand better if you knew some of the detail of the RBS issues. I also posted earlier that threats of violence against any particular player, whether direct or through encouragement of Liverpool players would not be tolerated - at least by me. I accept that you perhaps said it "tongue in cheek" but you will, I am sure, now undewrstand that it does sound like something that a bone-headed cretin may well have said. Anyway, moving on. .}

Fair enough Ed, I take your point. I must admit I've never stopped to think whether some of the ridiculous things I've read might have been jokes so why should you!?! I honestly believed the way I'd phrased it made it clear that it was not a genuine request or wish. My appologies.

Quick question;

Why doesn't the supports ban on reading the Sc*m not stretch to the whole of the News Intl group?

04 Feb 2011 21:57:52

Ed what wingers would you like us to sign in the summer? I know one of you said you rate Mata highly. . {ed's note - Mata, Turan, maybe Griezmann. What about you?}

I rate Mata very highly but I wouldn't want to pay an extremely large sum on him. Marin and Gervinho are also realistic options. Marveaux on a free would definitely help us out too as he can play left back as well. Turan worries me a bit because he doesn't have the best pace and I don't trust the quality of the Turkish league. I agree on Griezmann. I just hate it when people are saying "Hazard/ Sanchez has to be our number one target" when other clubs are way more interested than we are. {ed's note - I would love to get Sanchez, but I just don't see it happening.}

04 Feb 2011 21:55:02

I have read several posts relating to Torres and that some supporters will burn thee shirts on sunday, don't do this, wait untill we win the europa league and Chelsea win nothing.

Then show him what he has really missed, Realistically they have no hope of winning the league, they always find 1 team to good in the champions league and they will eventually get found out in the FA cup.

So all fans stand tall and give him what for on sunday, , If he plays!

04 Feb 2011 21:52:21
Carra is due back shortly and i would imagine he will come straight back into the team. I think we will be going with the three centre backs and two wing backs but what do think of Agger moving to the defensive midfield role. he has two feet he runs well with the ball and he can shoot.
ps. Carroll to return against the scum on the 6th march at anfield. what's the odds?? ?

I am done talking about all the negative elements who left the club. Instead, I would like to point out how the new manager has turned things around by changing to attacking formations. I remember the Blackpool game, when Kenny had a bad night, and I felt that perhaps he had been away from the game too long. Since that night, Liverpool has played better football and shown that there is still quality in this side. To all (non-Liverpool fans) who claimed that the game has passed him by, Kenny has proven that perhaps it is some of the managers who are still active today (or until very recently) who have been passed by. I think that he desrves to keep the job full-time.

04 Feb 2011 21:31:39
All TRUE reds. Do not throw your shirt on the pitch/ burn it etc etc. No matter what it says; it's a liverpool shirt. Keep it, mount it facing forwards on a wall. Whatever, but do not disrespect the club by throwing it/ burning it. We are better than that. The boy has made a mistake, he will realise in time - if you want to make a statement; sing torres' song, sing it better than it will ever be echoed around Stamford bridge ever again. Let him know what he has left behind, he will know his error, maybe as soon as Sunday. Then, sweet Carroll nine straight after. ;)

We are the greatest fans in the world, let's act like it. The future for LFC is very bright, let's get behind them and continue forward. I cannot wait to see the match, wish Carroll could play but im ridiculously excited to see more of Suarezs skill, pace and teamwork. :D. Fans, respect the shirt, support the club and look to our very bright future!

I totally agree with you mate. . we're all hurting but throwing our shirt at Torres won't change anything. . The thought of Torres hearing the Liverpool fans sing his song once more would certinaly put him off his stride and realise how adored the lad was. . it's the Liverpool way. Only once though. .

Oh dear Fernando. .

"When I was an Atletico Madrid fan growing up I couldn't understand it when a big player left.

I'm not asking them to understand me but I'm sure over time they will see what I did there."

So, he's comparing us to him when he was a kid?

04 Feb 2011 21:19:09

Pepe Reina is the best keeper in the world at the moment. I really hope he doesn't leave but if he does i can only see one option, Shay Given. 2 seasons ago was considered the best in the Prem, he would be cheap and eager to move and is most importantly a very good keeper.

To the Chartered Surveyor who replied to my post earlier, I also am no expert in this field (secondary schools is my game!) but could give it a shot!. .
In terms of raising the top tier of the main stand, it could be done in theory however it depends what is there already - structurally. The tech part; the foundation and structural frame need to accomodate the additional dead and live loadings from the additional capacity. If they can't take the additional weight, then this is a non starter. In addition, by raising the height, it would also mean the stand would move outover increasing the stands footprint. It is this that has hampered past attempts to expand Anfield. Space around the stadium is the most problamatic issue in renovating and expanding Anfield.
Therefore, as you suggested, the easiest solution would to be to infill the corners as suggested, the added benefit to this would that the contstruction could commence without disturbing match day attendances (I would have thought) which keeps revenues up until complete.

Just a few thoughts.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thanks for the reply, my thoughts entirely. It'll be interesting to see how NESV go about this but in order to maximise revenue and keep costs reasonable, I can't see anything but redevelopment of the main stand/ Kop corner. I think theres enough space between the back of the main stand and the boundaries of the adjacent housing to facilitate the required clearing distance to site the structural support for the increased height. Hopefully put an extra 5000 plus seats in place. Either way things are starting to look good all round with NESV, I was quite pessimistic at first but given their actions to date, my optimism's growing.

To reds fans,
My mate who's going to stamford bridge on sunday came up with a good idea, he said he's taking his young lads torres kits down with him and he's going to throw them on the pitch because there worthless now & the kits don't come cheap, its ok when the likes of torres are signing image rights into there contracts and then leave us fans with football tops that are then retired.

Isnt llorente like 27 years old? Ive seen him play before. He is very good, but not at all that special. I blame the eds (no offence) because everything you guys post is considered gold! Anyway, liverpool to win 3-0 at the bridge- kuyt, suarez and raul to score. Ill also put money on F.Traitor to pull a hamstring. He always does. Long live the king, long live LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB.

Re: Torres. In a way I can understand why he left but obviously its just the manner.

I wish him all the best, as long as it doesn't start on Sunday.

I read some interesting comments on here regarding his friendship with Yossi and if its true then it may explain why he chose Chelsea. Who knows?

He seems like the quieter type and being in that Chelsea dressing room will be hard from him with those f**kwits Terry et al.

Anyway, what is with the rubbish about Riena, I guess its all rubbish.

I must admit my grasp of Spanish is not the best but I feel we must be losing something in translation. Firstly Mascherano accuses Liverpool of not trying to keep him and Torres. I'm pretty sure he was offered a new contract to stay but was allowed to leave on compassionate grounds as wifey was homesick. Now here's where the translation must be letting me down because I thought 'homesick' meant that you were missing home not that you were sick of it. So why didn't Mrs Mascherano go home to Buenos Aires instead of to Barcelona? Could it be that they were offering most money? Surely not! And do I sense the stench of sour grapes now that poor little Maschy is only good enough to hold the players tracksuits while the proper players are on the pitch?

The second mis-translation of Spanish-speaking folk seems to have emitted from one Fernando Torres, who, despite being a lifelong Liverpool fan has now decided to play for one of our rivals, not for the money (of course not), no, because Liverpool are going through a rebuilding phase and little Nando can't wait that long to get his hands on trophies. Of course selling Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, John Obi Mikel, Jose Bosingwa and Yuri Zhirkov doesn't look like a team rebuilding does it Fernando?

Pity people can't just be honest.

Hi Ed, If we stay at Anfield(hope so) and redeveloped would we play our home games at another stadium or at Anfield with a reduced capacity?
Would love for us to play our home games at the new Landsdown road(The Aviva stadium) Dublin for a season it would save me a few quid lol.
Have a great feeling about Sundays game, I think the players will be fired up more that normal for a match against Chelski, I think that Judas will pull a hammie as he will do more running on Sunday than he has done all season, trying to impress is new "mates"
Terry and Lampard.

Mascherano's only job is to win the ball back for his team! No more & no less. The question needs to be asked is it required in top teams? Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Arsenal ect don't have a specific player of this like. For the life of me I still don't understand why Barca signed him! Where does he fit in? But if a team is looking for that particular type of player to fit into their system, then there's not many better than
Mascherano.

The Irish Rover
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Irish; United (Fletcher) and chelsea (Mikel) are / were suppose to do that role, but as you indicated there are not as good as him for that function.
What Mascherano lacked was brains, whenever he won the ball back , he always seemed to be unsure of what to do with it , and that's why he is on the bench at barca.

. . . what was that 'Arry?
Oh right, "the boy talks lots o' sense. He's a great guy, lovely geezer 'un all that." I see 'Arry.

I rest my case fellow posters!

Steve Parker

Nice one Steve, quality on the up big lad.

Don't agree with a lot of posters slagging off Rafa again, I don't think he's making any pops at LFC over the 50m price tag, he's just right that the lad was worth 70m 2 years ago.

Personally, I think we're damn lucky getting that much for him. I have no ill feeling towards the player, anybody wondering what the Liverpool way is about, it's simple. he's gone, we're here, move on.

The lad who wrote about admiring utd. .wow, naivete or wha? Again it's just a personal feeling, but I would say that as long as I can remember, the biggest difference between the 2 sides is that mu fans care a great deal more about how we are doing than we care about how they are doing. That and the fact that they can neither win nor lose with any grace.

I was in ot once watching them vs villa (left at half time) and even though they were playing villa, all they could sing about was us and Citi. I could not care less about the clowns tbh. .As far as our record goes, it's simple. .if they do win no. 19, all they have to do to *properly* take our record is win another 10 or so, and another 4 cl's, and maintain that lead for 20 years. . maybe then we can start to take them seriously as a footballing force. .that won't be too hard, will it?

The contact for Llorente a couple of weeks ago is a sure sign that we are now being a lot more ambitious. Clearly we would have spent far more than 57m or whatever it was if the bids for Richards and young would have been accepted. Obviously Llorente would have been instead of Carrol but never the less it's all positive.

I can't wait for Sunday now. I think that we've got a proper game on our hands. That aside, we should be more focused on the lesser teams than getting bragging rights over Chelsea and whats his name, but then again, we love it.

Future's bright!

Hi all,
mr henry has dropped subtle hints that anfield will be re-developed, we all love anfield and the memories and history it has given us but i'm sure mr henry does realise that the current capacity is holding us back financially. my point is that to stay at anfield would take quite a radical re-development with only main stand left to address as i can see so i wonder what they are planning, bearing in mind we have a huge waiting list for season tickets, surely this guaranteed income would be welcome.
anyone have any opinions, what about you ed?
allred {ed's note - there are loads of things that can be done, only two things have stopped any redevelopment from happening. We couldn't get hold of all the properties next to the ground, which I believe has been rectified now, and the transport infrastructure. That was also to be improved as part of the Stanley Park New Anfield proposal anyway. So I don't see there being any real problem with a redevelopment.}

04 Feb 2011 18:23:26
Just wanted to post my contempt of Macherano's comments today. So we did not do enough to keep him eh. Well given that his stated reason for leaving was because his family couldn't settle, I don't know what the club could do, save for taking down Anfield brick by brick and moving it to the outskirts of Barcelona!

Anyway, I thought Suarez's movement when he came on the other night was excellent and Kuyt did well up top too. I think Suarez should form a formidable partneship with Carroll. So to replace the Torrez song I've come up with:

Our number 9 he says why aye Carroll, Suarez
Our number 7's from Uruguay Carroll, Suarez
Give them the ball and they'll both score
They'll fight, they'll bite and they'll score some more
Carroll and Suarez, Liverpool's forward line.

Now that the window has closed. The team should be focussed on the performance front and get as many points as possible. LFC should realise that we can't work on signings as they did in the jan window. We should draw out a plan now. We should have targets and plans a, b and c in place. The timing will be important as well, the earlier the better. we should be finished with the signings so that the players can gel together before the start of the season.
The players need 30 days to get together and build team spirit. We have not been able to get the team firing for the word go. When we have a bad start before we can correct it, we aren't in contention.
Our squad needs dept to challenge on all fronts and try and win as many trophies as possible.

RE: "Torres said today that he has left the club due to not wanting to wait for our rebuild process. If this is the truth, then he has made the BIGGEST mistake of his career. Let me explain why.

Chelseas team is made of of mainly 28-36 year olds and youngsters. When the 28-36 leave very soon (either sold or retirement) then Chelsea will have to look to buying new players and bringing their youngsters into the team. This will take times for the players to all gel and the players to become a TEAM!
Surely this is the exact same thing as is going on with the Liverpool team at the moment. We are recruiting new players such as Suarez and Carroll and bringing in youngsters such as Kelly, Shelvey, Spearing etc. Since we have already started our rebuild process, we are ahead of Chelsea and should have a rebuilt team far before Chelsea do once their ageing players leave. Thsi will mean Torres will be stuck, once more, in a rebuilding process team.

For these reasons, I feel he would have been better going to Manchester City or Barcelona in my opinion. I feel incredibly sorry for him for this as he has done brilliant things for Liverpool and has ended betraying us for nothing. Sure in the short-term Chelsea could win trophies (but even this season they are far behind in the title race, will have to go through many tough teams in the Champions League and will have to avoid cupsets and tough sides in the FA Cup to win trophies) however in the long-term for Fernando Torres, this is a foolish move in my view. I hope I am wrong for his sake but I cannot see it considering Chelseas ageing team.
"

Some good points and I agree with the thread but Torres went for two reasons I think:
1 More money - we paid him enough anyway
2 they might win trophies this season and we are unlikley to

I agree he is wrong in his thinking. He has not only insulted LFC Fans but also his beloved Atletico fans by calling CFC a "big" club. Hope we beat them Sunday and that would be the icing on the cake.

But I agree we do need wingers, but for now hopefully the likes of mirelles, gerrard, Shelvey and Aurelio can supply some good crossess/ passes fo carrol. From what i have seen of him he dosent just need crosse from the wing to score he can picked out with balls through the centre which we should be able to provide.

Fair point ed but even with lamps for mikel or luiz for bosingwa, its much of a muchness. we should take real heart from that Sunderland game.

Skrtel will really upset Torres rhythm to the point he might even get sent off(FT)
Agger will be on Anelka and carra on drog. Each one match up. It's up to kuyt to keep Terry busy and if luiz thinks Torres is a handful, wait till he gets a load of Suarez. Far better technically

Bob bob bob,

Now your talking about bringing back past coaches.

Do you think it's a good idea? He was a very good coach but with the Spanish players being too and far between these days, do you think it's worth it.

I would think KK will get the job full time in the summer. Maybe another British fitness coach would be better. Maybe Kenny has someone in mind. Any suggestions Ed?

Here what you are saying about the past, but paco was a great fitness coach, Hes a proper sports scientist who live and breathes his strategies. I know its going into the past but my reason for mentioning him was not because of the spanish element it was more the fact that his credentials are excellent. If there is another fitness coach out there that would help the team then im all for it what ever his nationallity.

I think he is up for grabs. I did think that united was in pole position but not so sure now. We have shown our intention, were not scared of spending money whereas united are doing the opposite.

I see a good summer of transfer activity. If so will join down at hickories again for all that transfer news. Bloomin love those shakes!

Sorry forgot to awnser,

again I don't watch allot of the other leagues just the prem really. Here good things about the valencia winger Mata, not sure how viable option he is, I know that valencia were in need of cash, not sure what there like now after selling Villa and Silva. Really anyone who can carry the ball with pace would be good. again I think I will trust your judgment on this one with the hazard and Sanchez option as this is something i have heard Sanchez and Hazard can do.

Everyone has a different point of view on things and i respect yours . I was just telling everyone mine. As for your reply, Why would people hate on Torres . I know we all love football and people can really get emotional about it . i Do aswell , but after all Torres is still a human being . Who deserves the same ammount of respect you would want from others . Everyone has done things we would of done differently if we could and he probably would do aswell. But it is still a decision he wants to make and he should follow his intuition . .

And i also think football is a job , and a job is never more important then following the things you want to pursuit(typo? ) despite criticism from anyone around you, You just can't please everyone. He would only make himself unhappy if he didn't listen to himself.

As an Architect I am assuming the post below regarding the development of Anfield (and the finer details) seems to be from someone in the know? ?
Anyway, if it is to be true, AFL are very much specialists in the stadia field (albeit Manchester based!) Their portfolio boasts both Chelsea's and Everton's new training grounds as well as the gigantic East and West stand of Manure.
Think the info posted may be more wishful thinking at this early stage, after all, the first words that mention redevelopment have only surfaced in an interview with Henry, and it is my understanding a decision wasnt going to be made untill a new CEO was appointed.
On the other hand it could well be a pricing exercise for the club. The best option instead of a new stadium in my opinion. Watch this space!

This is the chelsea team that lost 3 nil at home to sunderland in november

* 01 Cech
* 02 Ivanovic
* 03 A Cole
* 17 Bosingwa
* 19 Ferreira
* 07 Ramires
* 12 Mikel
* 15 Malouda
* 18 Zhirkov
* 11 Drogba
* 39 Anelka

you'd probably change essien for ramires, torres for zhirkov and terry for ferreira and that's pretty much their best team.

my point being that if sunderland can go there and win 3 nil, then so can we.

we have nothing to fear, man-4-man we're better than sunderland with far more technically gifted players.

my team would and formation be:
3-5-1-1
reina

skrtel carra agger

kelly lucas Johnson

gerrard meirelles

suarez
Kuyt

1.we'd be hard to break down with the 5 man defence
2. going forard we'd have 6 man attack with the wing backs bombing on, with the assurance that lucas will cover with the 3 CB.
3. carra will be ace at spotting danger and stepping in to snuff it out. plus if they play FT, drog and anelka then each on will mark one.

i really beleive we can do it and ALL liverpool fans need to believe the same

I dont't watch allot of foreign football, but I have a few mates who do and they are saying that Sanchez is an excellent player although I got the impression off them that united had more chance of signing him. But I agree we do need wingers, but for now hopefully the likes of mirelles, gerrard, Shelvey and Aurelio can supply some good crossess/ passes fo carrol. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

But if a team is looking for that particular type of player to fit into their system, then there's not many better than
Mascherano.

We only need players that want to play for the badge on their chest. We are better off now than at any time in the last ten years, with owners that want to back us, a manager that knows the Liverpool way and will play attractive football.

Carroll and Suarez is a great partnership in the making. In the summer other acquisitions will be made. Let's think forward, not about players that have been here, won nothing and then left giving multiple reasons as to why. The simple reason is, at times they were not good enough!

Good point mate but believe it or not I have moved on, despite what my comments may portray, and I think all the signs are point in the right direction and I also agree that Carroll and Suarez should make an excellent partnership judging by their past performances at their old clubs and there styles of play. I just though the mascherano point needed to be said, I will admit still slightly bitter about the recent departure but I'll get over it with another Suarez goal.

Re football stadium.
the redevelopment of anfield was decided a couple of months ago.the plans have been drawn up by architects AFL who specialise in the development of sports venues both old and new.
the tender for the works have been sent to several companys and a return date has been set for the end of march for the formal tenders to be submitted. the work on the redevelopment will start immediatley after the last home game of this season and will take 2 seasons to complete.the new capacity will be 65,000 with anfield road having a completley new stand and the kop having a extra tier with the old priory road stand a exact replica of the centenary stand opposite.later down the line both the main stands could be extended if needed but the new owners feel 65,000 is enough at the moment.
sponsorship or naming rights for a redeveloped anfield are being considered to help fund the building costs with adidas, standard chartered and carlsberg all showing an interest.the new owners are keen to keep costs down to a minimum and not saddle the club with dedt like it had before but understand there will be some stadium dedt incurred but it will not effect transfer funds for the club because of the increase in revenue and a reduction in running costs

So Rafa thinks we sold Torres for too small a fee. .

Well tubby, thank h*** it has nothing to do with you as im sure if you had the money to buy someone you would have bought players barely good enough for Everton, let alone the mighty pool.

I loved Rafa, as he and his over achievement side gave me the best night of my life when I was sittin in the Ataturk stadium, but he was his own worse enemy when it came to press conferences, transfers, owners and players contracts.

I don't particularly like to talk about old members of the club, especially when he did achieve something great with Liverpool, and he willalways be remembered for the way he has evolved our youth squads but there is no need for him to comment about the price we should have got for another liverpool ex, whats his name, the blonde hair spanish kid? ?

Anyway, whether we got 50mill or 70 mill for Torres, the FACT is we have now got a lethal looking partnership which he was never able to bring to the club in all the years he was with us.

Big prices for Carrol and Suarez, but whoever we signed in January, an already inflated market, made more inflated by the fact of teams knowing we were to recieve 50mill for Torres and needed a striker in the last hours of the window, im sure we will have a great future.

Reina will commit to the club at the end of the season, AGAIN, and the Americans, Kenny and damien can spend the months running up to the summer window negotiating fee's with our target's clubs, whoever they may be.

Most deadwood has gone, bar a few, including the likes of Aquilani, Jovanovic, Konchesky, maybe Poulson too if Jonjo Shelvey carries on his improvement and then that makes room for more squad players worthy of playing for our great club.

Liverpool are heading in the right direction, at long last, and I fell if we make the required signings, which im sure will happen, or atleast bust a gut trying to make the deals happen, we will get the likes of:

Young, Turan, Mexes, a left back out of Taiwo or Warnock, and possibly Micah Richards creates a very young, but very experienced SQUAD, which again is something we have lacked for too long. We have always had a great starting 11, but that isn't enough to win trophies as proven too often in recent times.

So my message to all fans, be confident this is the start of a potentially bright new era for our club, with new owners and great manager/ coaches who will bring the best players to play for LFC, and im sure it won't be long until we start to win some more silverware :)

Rafa, you was loved, but sadly your ego made you feel like billy big dick and the same thing happened at Inter Milan so your in no position to tell us how much we should have got for a stroppy kid with about as much loyalty as Bin Laden and Saddam, your time has ended with Liverpool, you won't be welcome back to work for our club, concentrrate on getting your next job, which by the way I have put £50 on him being Chelsea next manager if they don't win champs league this year :D

Keep the faith,

LFC Till I Die

I respect your opinion. I exaggerated a bit. I agree that he is a good defensive mid, but when your team has nothing to defend and needs to go forward he brings little to the table. As far as Maradona goes, he is not the most credible football brain, is he? Also, if he is that great why can't he get into Barca's 11? Mascherano is one-dimensional. Think of the many games we drew against average teams because of the Mascherano- Lucas midfield that had no creativity. Now, here's the one shocker for you. I actually believe that Lucas is the more complete footballer between the two. He has been superb this year, but if you'd asked me last year I'd have said the same.

Whilst i agree with the general sentiments about Mascherano, basing an argument on Maradonna as a knowledgeable figure is always going to be shaky ground. He also rated Guierrez so highly as to say he was one of the first names on his team sheet alongside Messi and Masch.

Just aquick question can anyone else get there heads around Mascherano's comments, I know ive allready commented on this once today but seriously what he is saying now dosent match anything he said when he was leaving about family being unable to settle in England, "the club could of done more to keep us at anfield" WTF, he turned down a new contract. Surely he can't have that short of memory. Macca do you have any info on the mascherano exit is there more to it than the club and Masch have previously let on? Appreciate you might not have the awnser to this but if you do or anyone else does, Thanks.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I'm not the ed, nor am I Macca; but if you don't mind I'll give you my take on the whole situation. Mascherano is and always has been overrated. There is a reason why he couldn't make it into West Ham's team and why he is on Barca's bench: he is sh*ep. Liverpool and Benitez gave him a platform to shine; but aside from constant fouling and running around for 90 minutes he can't do anything on a football pitch. He left because his value was at its inflated highest and he cashed in on it. Now, he is on the bench and he tries to convince everyone including himself that Liverpool forced him out and that he would have never left the club. He's lying, that's why his story changes by the minute. I always believed that he was the type of player who looks good on a team that is in form. Bracelona wants every player to contribute and Mascherano doesn't do enough to be a starter. West Ham needed players who make a difference and he couldn't. Only in Benitez' system did he fit perfectly and that's why Inter was his preferred destination. Don't listen to anything this guy says, he is a joke.
As far as Torres goes, there's a reason why his nickname is El Nino. Nuff said.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Fair enough, I don't completley agree with you about Masch, I thought he was a great defensive bid a protected the back line very well, however I will say that on the odd occasion he did use to loose the plot. I remember him playing agains aresnal and just sort of stopping in our area and doing nothing as the player took the ball off him which led to a goal. Cheers for the reply though.

I'd just like to share my opinion with you guys, no one was more pleased than me when the king returned but i don't think anyone on here has given any credit to our new coach steve clarke, i think this was the best signing KK has made since he returned a complete stroke of genius, the bloke's got a proven record alongside mourinho at chavski and i think his insight into them will be so valuable in us beating them on sunday and every one of our players know judas like the back of there hand whereas suarez will be a complete surprise(nasty one) to the chavs and that's where our victory will come.

"I was talking to my Atletico friend last night and he is not sure Torres will be that welcome back at Atletico. He is convinced that Torres bottled out of both games against Atletico at the Calderon because he feared the reception he would get.

He points to the fact that Torres suddenly decided that he needed surgery on his knee after the 2nd leg of the Benfica game and after the draw pairing Liverpool versus Atletico was made. The excuse made at the time was that he needed surgery to be ready for the world cup. However, as i understand it, the Liverpool Medical team did not believe it was necessary. Do you believe there could be some truth in it.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Not only europa league, I clearly remember he didn't played against atletico in champions league group stages in 08-09 season. He "somehow" got injured before their fixture."

i don't know about all that. .he left athletico on pretty good terms and was offered a vip seat at the calderon when we played there but never took it as he thought it would be disrespectful to us.as for being welcomed back here. .wouldn' have thought so!

Nuff said.

Sorry mate but i COMPLETELY disagree with you, i hate how Mash left us with his antics before the Man City game but to say he was sh*t is just plain wrong, he is one of the best defensive mids around, you don't become the captain of Argentina if your no good, even Maradonna described him as a monster of a player, surley he knows what he's talking about

To raise money for Queensland flood victims, Perth Glory striker Robbie Fowler slipped into a number nine Liverpool top worn backwards with Fernando Torres' name emblazoned on it. The event involved the former Reds star wearing a 'Shirt that Hurt'. Fowler said: "It's a shirt that not only myself but many Liverpool fans would rather not wear just yet."

What a legend!

****i have often thought that.why do players always do the sign of the cross, i bet most of them have never set foot inside a church, does that mean if we sign a rasta he will be allowed to smoke a spliff on the pitch b4 kickoff, i would rather they kept religion out of football, we are not in scotland, ****

Like Steve Parker I don't believe in god, but that's my choice. I think of players who do that as fanatics. After all, why are they doing it? Are they trying to convert us or does their god get annoyed if they don't do it publically and cause everyone tio look at them? It's like muslims and catholics who are fanatical about trying to convert people to their religion. I drink white wine and support LFC, but I don't try and make other people drink the same and support us! These people are simply slaves to some sky-fairy they beleive in. That's kool with me, but keep it to yourself.
Thought the funniest exhibition was when Kaka knelt on the pitch and tore off his shirt to expose a teeshirt saying "I belong to Jesus!"
Christ! Thought he belonged to AC Milan at the time.

Does anyone else find it weird that so many people come on here & other sites, asking for information regarding streams of games not on television in their respected country? Then the good ol' US of A shut down 3 sites? Coincidence or conspiracy theory?

Great posting as usual Steve and some of your points are ace, keep it coming, but the comments above I don't agree with. I say let anyone pray if they want to. Do agree with you that it's a bit OTT tho. Probably better if you believe in a god to keep it to yourself. The one thing we prob do have in common is that can't stand people trying to seem pious by demostrating how religious they are. Hernandez and others have a right to pray but why can't they do it privately in the changing room instead of posing for the crowd?

Watching the game on wed night loved ikenny is doing a super job loved the way the crowd lost there voice, what does dalglish do, tells the new num 7 to go out and warm up on the touchline the crowd find there voice again and the team find there form again. brillant king kenny i wonder who you learnt that off bill shankly or bob paisley.

Having moved to the US 17 years ago, living in New England and supporting the Red Sox. . I was delighted when they purchased us. They have been very thoughtful owners of the Sox, not rushing into decisions and have done an amazing job renovating Fenway. .so fingers crossed that is actually the route they go with Anfield. They also are most certainly not afraid to put their money where their mouth is. . and add quality players. .but are ruthless when the hard decisions (like shipping on a popular or an older player) need to be made. I would expect a huge overhaul of the squad (at least 50% of current squad gone) during this coming summer and next.

Loads of debate about the reception we should give Nando on Sunday - we should tear the little tw$t to shreds - he's shown us no loyalty so we should show him nothing but abuse

Rumours of our fans throwing shirts with his name on onto the pitch on Sunday, I've got a couple of framed ones to pass back to him if he comes to our end.

i think its likely cos he don't seem to be happy there laterly. how about lfc signing him. ok hes 32 so getting on but he not lost too much pace and is strong and carrol could learn from him the good parts.

i think could get him for about 8-10 million

what ya think ed

{Editor's Note: Drogba is as happy now as he would be anywhere. If he leaves it will be to Marseille or Real Madrid - then perhaps a late big payday in Turkey or possibly Qatar.}

I admire nothing about manure, and there success is largely down to referee's being bias toward them for the last 20 years.
Love them or hate them they have won things the right way and legit. Not like Chelsea who have bought thier success and only think they are a big club. Man utd & Liverpool hate each other because thier is a hidden respect deep down for each other.
They know how brilliant Liverpool can be as much as we do.

Madness of King Roy posting - * Relgious prayers: before a game, before coming onto the field and after scoring a goal? I don't believe in God, but accept that some people need something to hold onto. Fair enough, but didn't FIFA instigate a ban on shows of religious acts last season? If so, why is Hernandez kneeling in the centre circle and praying to his god? If we are ignoring that rule then I understand why we are also ignoring charging Walcott with an offence: it's just too much bother and easier to push under the carpet. We should carry that on and ignore the rules that are too hard to instigate.

Am a life long Liverpool fan, and still clearly remember my first Liverpool game, with Keegan out-running and out muscling Berti Vogts for that penalty in '77. Started following this site 4-5 months ago and am glued to it continuously. First ever post. Excellent work by the Ed's, by the way.

Ever since Torres left, there's a lot of posts about now letting Reina go simply because "if he doesn't want to stay, he should leave" and "let's bring in Shay Given". Is this how you build a team or a dynasty? Who is going to be the core to build on for the next decade or so, if you're so ready to let everyone go? Where would Manure be without the years of loyal service from the likes of Robson, Giggs, Neville, Scholes, etc etc. Of course, the Cantonas, Keanes and Ronaldos came and went.

It's a chicken and egg situation. If the fans support the players, the players support the team back. And vice versa. Plus, they are all already getting the money they want because they already signed the contract, right? So it's not always just only about money. .And it's also not about the accent or language that you speak. .not anymore. It's a global game today and the EPL thrives because it's a crucial part of the global scenario.

Pepe Reina is part of of the crucial core of Liverpool today, and I think he should be kept for as long as possible. Let's get behind him and give him all the support he needs to continue being the best goalkeeper in the EPL. .and playing for our team. . .

Just my 2 pennies worth. ra1969

{Editor's Note: I am not sure that Banega will be available for the same price as Adam, but I agree he would be a much better option.}

i thought Blackpools valuation of Adam was £14mil and thought Banega would cost in the region of £10-£15mil, i would still go for Banega if he cost £20mil-£25mil, but that is easy for me to say as it ain't my money. but the lad is a class act.

All red fans should be very worried about no new ground, our match day revenue is £100s millions behind other leading clubs, options to expand at Anfield are seriously limited and the financial gap between us and others is growing by the week.
I went to my 1st game on the boys pen 40 years ago and have as many fond memories of Anfield as lots of you, clouds of steam pouring out of the Kop on European nights, etc etc, but we now need to face facts and move on ASAP.

{Editor's Note: Suggesting that revenue for matchdays is "£100s millions behind other leading clubs" is nonsense. How much do you think football clubs turnover? The total turnover of Liverpool will be a little over £200M or so. The largest matchday revenue in the world is that of Arsenal who generate a little over £1M per game on average - so perhaps £35M or so per annum through the gates. Liverpool's is lower due to the smaller capacity of the ground and the cheaper seat prices. Your quote is simply scaremongering.}

Anyone else think insua would make a superb left sided wingback ina 3-5-2 system, his delivery from the left was second to none just a bit suspect defensively.

coentrao drenthe or nzogbia would also be great there , all three are between fullbacks and genuine wingers

Do you think Torres or even Owen will ever be welcomed back at Anfield, even when their playing days are over?

I was talking to my Atletico friend last night and he is not sure Torres will be that welcome back at Atletico.

For me it is a shame, that a player can never return to a club they claim to love because they burnt their bridges. You just need to see how much our ex-players enjoy returning to watch matches at anfield. Xabi Alonso returned to watch a game a couple of months after he left and was welcomed back. I just cannot see it happening with Torres. It is a real Shame for him.

Just cannot understand, how medals can ever surpass the adulation, respect and welcome a player receives from the club he became a legend at. After all this is as close to blood family as you can get.

Just reading an article from Anfield talk and llorente is witted as saying Liverpool were in for him in the winter transfer window but wasn't interested in a move at the moment. (application on my iPhone)

Ed- you were correct about possible surprises llorente, Richards and young all approached in January.

This to me means we are now in the market for quality players with class and obvious high standard of talent.

Ed/ Macca - was wondering whether Alonso would ever be considered for a return to anfield in the summer by comIll kk or the board? Is it likely at all? ALonso always has nothing but good words to say for our club.

On a lighter note wouldn't it be funny if the chelsea game was 0-0 when both teams have spent massive amounts of money in the winter Market.

{Editor's Note: I don't really see Alonso as an option going forward.}

Shanklys Magic Dust

A short story:

In the early nineties, during the Souness era, while rummaging through the remnants and artefacts of the Anfield boot room, one of the tea ladies found a very old manuscript written in a strange language she had never seen before.

A dark brown folded document was inside an envelope and sealed with an old wax crest of the Liver bird. Her nephew worked at the Liverpool Museum and specialised in ancient languages and mythology and she asked him to translate the manuscript. This he duly did.

The document explained that there was something with ancient powers hidden in a sacred place inside Anfield.

Legend has it that Shankly originally found the manuscript during building alteration work which was being undertaken to lower the height of the changing room door to make the Liverpool players appear taller to the opposing team as they came out to play football.

The manuscript spoke of a magic dust that could only be used by a chosen person with vision and special mystical powers. These special human powers included exceptional humility and respect for human beings allied to an incredibly strong determination to succeed. Shankly possessed these powers in abundance, inherited from his ancient forefathers in Scotland.

The manuscript explained that with encouragement, training and special skills, the dust could transform a normal person into a super human being, but it had to be used wisely. Provided the correct training was given to people who possessed these special human powers the magic could then be passed on to the next generation for eternity.

When Shankly eventually left LFC having won numerous trophies and transforming LFC into a fighting machine to be feared worldwide, folklore has it, that he passed the secret of the manuscript and the location of the magic dust on to Bob Paisley who in turn then passed it on to Joe Fagan. . . . . .Finally it was given to the King in the 1980s and Kenny became the custodian of the manuscript and the Shankly Dust

When he left LFC in the early 1990's Kenny hid the magic dust in the special place within Anfield and it was not used for many many years. During these barren times the magic had lay hidden.

In 2005, distraught with the performance of the team, Kenny decided enough was enough and he went to the secret place to borrow the magic dust for the European cup final. Without telling Rafa he sprinkled the magic dust on him before the team left for Istanbul.

Rafa was not of these shores and was still learning his trade and had not been taught the mystical ways of the great Shankly. Kenny was not yet ready to disclose the secret that had been passed down to him from the old masters. He knew the responsibility that had been passed down to him from the chosen ones, and he guarded its secret and its hidden location with his life.

When the people begged the King to come back to save LFC, he went to the special place and with great reverence yet no pomp or ceremony, he removed the magic dust from the sacred hiding place. Using the rituals passed down from Shankly and which had been taught to him by the great masters before him, the King brought his servants before him and unknown to them, sprinkled his magic on all the team... except Torres, as he was not in that day. (Rumour has it he was in London)

The dust was then duly returned to the sacred place but in times of trouble, when dark forces are gathering, the King knew he could always go to the secret place and borrow more dust as and when it was needed.

History is now being created before our very eyes and it is written in the holy scriptures of Shankly, that one day the King would return and banish all before him. . . . watch out Fergie!

Long live the King! ! YNWA

Hey ed, judging by what you've said about Aqua, I was just wondering one thing, why did he seem to hate it so much with us while he was here? In many ways we gave him a fresh start, and yet going by what you say it would almost be like a prison sentence for him if he had to return to us.

When NESV took over I always thought that was going to be the way we went forward. When they took over Red Sox they were in a similar posistion to us, but John Henry wanted to keep the tradition of the club. If Anfield is revamped and Upgraded I wonder what will happen to the land sectioned off by in Stanley Park. Does anyone Know if we own it? If we do I can see a development similar to that of Chelsea Village whith a Hotel and Shops. Its one way to bring value to an area.

On to another point, just read the mascherano interview where he has said the club didn't do enough to keep either of them at liverpool. Im a bit confused now, because im almost 100% Sure that Masch said he had to leave as his family couldn't live in England and as far as Torres is concerned his reason that he has given is Champions League football. Either mascherano has got a clue what he is talking about or the reasons both the players have given are bollocks because the only thing I can think of with terms to doing more is paying more. Its not as though we can just say to Uefa that we have had a good think about it and actually we do want to be in the champions league and weve also decided to move anfield and are looking at a plot of land nere spain so masch will be happy. Masch new when we left the club was about to be sold and Torres must of known were trying to sign players especially since one of them arrived before the transfer request was handed in.

"The Madness of King Roy XXIV"

Not sure that everything in the Liverpool garden is so rosy, but the green shoots of recovery are on the horizon. With so many issues to look at, maybe just bullet points to run through? (I am not a member of Tw*Face or TubeBook or Twonker - or whatever they are - so this is the best forum to outline some views):

* John Henry: nice words about KK and delighted they see his quality and worth to the club. Thank you NESV for your belief and support.
* Andy Carroll is saying all the right things at the moment and my God! Never realised what a big boy he is!
* Rafa: please keep your mouth shut during the next week. Don't want to hear about your valuation of Torres, nor your assertion you will be back to manage the club at some stage.
* Damien Comoli: little praise for him over the past week, but he is the man who pushed and refined the purchases of Suarez and AC. More respect needed for his work.
* Nathan Eccleston: scored again on loan at Charlton the other day. We should not lose this player, he has a future.
* Staying at Anfield: if we upgrade the ground and invest in the facilities, maybe it is the way forward? After all, we won five European Cups and countless titles at Anfield. Just because others have larger grounds, do we have to follow?
* Wenger: another manager trapped in the "football matters are of no concern to the fans" His suggestion that Moyes broke an 'inside rule' by telling what happened in the tunnel is laughable. First - how did Wenger even see it? Secondly - are we (fans) even entitled to know the names of the players and the score Wenger?!
* I am simply tired, very tired of the Harry 'good old boy' Redknapp's Cockney Comedy Act. "I don't even know 'ow to turn on a PC!" chuckled the twitching manager. Is he proud of saying that? . . and . . . "Beckham is sensational, utterly amazing in training!" A touch of the Hansen hyperbole. It's boring and a caricature of a Cockney cartoon.
* Fabregas: first Walcott dives, tells us he dives and is pleased with it. NO action from the FA. Then Fabregas tries to get a Huddersfield player sent off, waves an imaginary card at the ref, abuses the ref in the tunnel and calls Ipswich a 'rugby team'. NO action from the FA. Who is sleeping with whom at the Emirates and the FA?
* talkSPORT? Why?
* Relgious prayers: before a game, before coming onto the field and after scoring a goal? I don't believe in God, but accept that some people need something to hold onto. Fair enough, but didn't FIFA instigate a ban on shows of religious acts last season? If so, why is Hernandez kneeling in the centre circle and praying to his god? If we are ignoring that rule then I understand why we are also ignoring charging Walcott with an offence: it's just too much bother and easier to push under the carpet. We should carry that on and ignore the rules that are too hard to instigate.
* Ian Holloway: great act to start the season with, but past its sell by date now Ian. Dull, repetitive and always negative when it concerns other clubs, UNLESS they are clubs with people you want to fawn over (Ferguson, Wenger) or want to be mates with (Bruce and Allardyce.)
* Finally - talking of past their sell by dates: Curbishley - Alan, Real Madrid are NEVER going to come knocking, so take any job. You always say you're waiting for the right one. West Ham again? Allardyce: I wonder if this overrated bruiser has seen his better days pass him by? Don't expect to see him in the big time again!
* Alan Hansen (again): sorry to say this, but as with this current series of "Top Gear" and "Ed Reardon's Week" on Radio 4, this is one series too far. He's past his sell by date and we need to freshen up the BBC pundits. NOT Robbie Savage, certainly not Neville Neville and NOT another washed up, past his best playing days ex-player. I would like to see and hear more of people like Henry Winter from The Daily Telegraph and Darren Lewis from The Mirror. People who can analyse a game and not revert to over the top verbal histrionics. It's not rocket science as I said earlier this week and we can all say what they say - except we are not put in front of millions. At least most journalists rein in the hyperbole and not everything is "utterly sensational!"

. . . what was that 'Arry?
Oh right, "the boy talks lots o' sense. He's a great guy, lovely geezer 'un all that." I see 'Arry.

I rest my case fellow posters!

Is there any chance that we can forget about Torres and concentrate on supporting our players instead of slagging other teams players. It's not the Liverpool way. The best thing to do is applaud him for the work he done for us, move on and show him that he left the best supporters in the world to become an unloved mercenarty. Realisation of his mistake will kick in soon enough. He acted in haste and will regret at his leisure.

To the guy/ girl who said that you can't be a liverpool fan or love the club if you're not a scouser. .
I'm from leicester, and I have been supporting liverpool my whole life (even though I am still young) but to share the same norms and values as a "scouser" or a person from the red half of liverpool is the same as being a liverpool fan from wherever you are. There are supporters around the world who share the same love for the club as anyone, and to shoot down a fellow fan is like saying "chelsea is a big club".
So instead of killing or slating another fan, you should be old enough to know that supporting liverpool isn't a hobby, it isn't a commitment but, it is a way of life.
Every fan of liverpool fc must have celebrated kenny dalglish winning the league as a player manager, or for the young ones istanbul 2005. . To say you can't support a club because you don't come from there is just disgusting and you should be ashamed of the comments you have posted.

Anyone else think insua would make a superb left sided wingback ina 3-5-2 system, his delivery from the left was second to none just a bit suspect defensively.

To the guy who wrote this. . . Irish kev. ha ha ok I agree with you mate about you being apart ov the club but let's make one thing clear your not a scouser an really don't no what it's like glory hunter springs to mine you'll never know what it's like to be a scouser an support our beloved club FACT. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I wrote the following not to cause havoc but was just pointing out facts I see I got alot of reply's to my post again all the responses I did get were again not from SCOUSERS I don't care if ye Irish or ye from London an support I club I was just pointing out that you will never feel the affection towards the club like me it's FACT an you no it's true an you no it is this is my club an every other scouser were not a*ll*d about outside support the club are revenue an shirt sales Liverpool is Liverpool not Irish Liverpool not londonpool not Welshpool not stokepool not anywhere pool but LIVERPOOL AND SITS JUST RIGHT IN ANFIELD FACT
******************************************
By this idiots logic im asuming then that anyone other than a scouser can't play for Liverpool either cos surely they won't ever feel the same affection and therefore won't possibly be able to give as good a performance as someone born in the city?
What a complete imbecile! You don't have to have been born somewhere to understand the depth of emotion that comes from supporting a team like Liverpool, You don't need to have an L4 Postcode to understand that we are the best club ever to exist!
You do however need to understand that without the support from people all over the world we wouldn't be able to compete with the likes of Manure and Chelski!
I have many freinds that support Liverpool FC, none of whom were born in Liverpool but all of them are 'real' supporters, they know as much about the club as anyone born in the city, they feel every win and every loss with the same elation or dread as anyone born in the city. . I have scouse running thru my viens but more importantly it runs thru my heart and soul and noone will ever tell me that its not the same for everyone that calls themselves a red!
We as supporters need to support each other as well as our team. then we will have a unity that cannot be matched, then we will have a force to be reckoned with again. A red is a red is a red. doesn't matter where your born, You have no choice in that. So if someone chooses to support our great team then i welcome them wholeheartedly!

Think we can definately get a draw, if we get some 50 - 50 decisions from the ref we might even take the spoils. Would start Suarez myself, as he'd be an unknown quantity for Chelsea right now. That'd take JT's & partners attention so maybe a forward thinking midfielder (Stevie G or Raul Meireles) could sneak in undetected to knick a goal.
Would cap a great week by us beating Chelsea!

I think we can beat chelski come sunday no problems, look at our first meeting this season, we totally outplayed them, i know the blonde fella scored twice but we can still batter them on sunday without his services, lets hear the crowd ROAR.

Hi all. Im from south africa and recently watched suarez play live at soccer city against ghana at the world cup. I believe that this guy has the potential to surpass torres as a kop hero. He never gives up and is an extremely passionate footballer. Another point that i would like to make is that imo if KK was in charge 6 years ago then we would be a completely different team now(in terms of success). What do you think about the above ED.

{Editor's Note: Sure, Suarez has commitment. I obviously cannot answer the what if question.}

For the guy who said you had to be a scouser to love the club I think your forgetting about Dalglish and Shankly - Mc ( from sunny north Warrington )

{Editor's Note: Bob Paisley, Blair Mayne ..... Many love the club who are not "Scousers".}

Morning ED

Fantastic job done during the window(must have really been knackering for you all)

What would you thoughts be on the following players for the summer

Kyriakos Popodopolous (defender plying trade at Schalke) 8 mill
Balazs Dzsudzsak Left wing (PSV) 14 mill
Marko Marin (can play left or RW- Werder Bremen) 14 mill
Ola Toivoneinen (striker PSV) 12 mill)

Prices estimated in Euros

Sell
Aquilani 12 mill
Jovanovich 4 mill
Insua 3 mill
Konchesky 2 mill

PS Who would Macca like to see come in during the summer?

REDFORLIFE

{Editor's Note: Marin and Toivonen are possibles - I know nothing much of the others.}

04 Feb 2011 06:18:59

To people posting REINA leaving in the summer to MAN UTD

1. KK would never sell to them and they do not have any spanish players
2. REINA will stay as he is the captain on the field after GERRARD and CARRA
3. If you all think he will leave because Torres left then he should move to Chelsea but then they have Cech so would not get 1st team football.

So if he decided to go he would go to Barcelona or outside of EPL though I doubt it big time

04 Feb 2011 06:02:16
I am amazed that carroll was bought for that much when i don't think he is worth it. i would have bought Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero before even considering purchasing Carrol. I also think Suarez was a very good buy. Ed?

{Editor's Note: I is not possible to compare Marin and Hazard to Carroll and Hazard and Aguero were not available.}

04 Feb 2011 05:17:17

Kyrgiakos might be a little edgy but i do think he is a good squad player. He played pretty well against Stoke and was actually one of the most important players on the field (Bar Kuyt , Meireles , Suarez)

People say get rid of the deadwood. but i think he deserves to stay , and he seems like a really nice guy . Someone who everyone loves just like Pepe.

I m a liverpool fan, i m not a scouser, i enjoy watching teams playing good football, whether that be manchester untied arsenal or whoever, i ma huge fan of wayne rooney as a footballer, i admire berbatovs skills, and in general i have always enjoyed wtching ferguson s teams play football, i like the explosive nature of his team , they way they are set up, the speed with which they counter, i like spurs wide play, their pace and directness especially bale down the left, arsenal s style i don't admire so much , i feel their team lacks something they lack the fight, and spirit of a united team, you could be forgiven for thinking i m a utd fan in disguise but i m not i just enjoy good football, can anyoen else relate to this, surely even the most staunch liverpool fans admire albeit secretly the succes which man united have and their style of play under ferguson

controversial maybe but true

I love Reina, but he wants to leave, ship him out asap, no sense keeping players that don't want to be here!
And ship him out of PL. Start fresh go get Shay Given!

Ed. . a rumour is going round that reina MIGHT leave in the summer with a possible bid from man utd, do you think he will go in the summer and if he does who do you think could fill his place if he does go.

{Editor Note: Hard to say at the moment. But I definatly wouldn't sell to Man Utd. I personally would move for Shay Given - he wouldn't cost that much and would do for a season for two before we signed someone long-term. Would also leave more funds for other areas.}

Would be gutted if pepe leaves. . but after torres leaving like he did i honestly wouldn't doubt it . IF he was to leave which i dread not. I think David Ospina Colombia's number 1 goalie should come in he is around 24 years old plays for nice in france and tbh he carrys that team on his shoulders and for a goalkeeper to be the best player on the team says a lot. wouldn't cost much prob around 8-9 mil USD

LETS GO LADS BEAT CHELSEA THIS WEEKEND

people born on the red side of Liverpool will always have a special affinity and definitely different relationship with the team, (I'd assume), but to use that to shoot a fellow FAN down seems tasteless to me. ugh.

Blair Maine. Great piece and I think it sums up the last 30 days. We have a little ways to go but if the rest of the season pans out with dedication (players and fans alike) I think we are in for some good times. I think the rest of the league have taken notice. The game is different than it was when Kenny was in charge. Now we have internet, smartphones and a TV deal that pays players and clubs massive incomes. The stars are pampered and that sort of goes with the territory. It's hard to equate with the modern footballer and was much easier to relate to Dalglish, Beardsley, Rush, St. John, Hughes, Souness, Neal and all that went before them. But the one thing that hasn't changed is that on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday when the team plays its 11 v 11. Kenny knows this and also knows that we love "good" football. He'll give us as good of football as we can get from these lads over the next 3 1/ 2 months and bring in more that fits his philosophy in the summer. In the next 30 days Carroll will give us a buzz on his debut, Europa league success while secondary will give us a chance to feel successful. NESV if you really want to make a statement and shake the premiership to its core, hand Kenny a 5 year contract
in the next 60 days and let everyone know that Liverpool are back.

Chi-Paul.

Absolutely mate. We need to go for the win, and I am sure Kenny will do so. A win on Sunday and the team will believe they can get top 4 (if they don't already). Champs league on offer will make the club even more appealing in the summer, not to mention revenue for the club. I wish Andy was fit though. I still believe we can do it, and I have a feeling the boys will be up for it. I don't think you're dreaming mate - we have a very good chance of winning. LIVERPRES

Wonder what formation Kenny will use on Sunday.
Hope we try to go at them with an attacking formation like 4 - 3 - 3. Would be risky but would love to give them a surprise or two.
Can't wait to see Carroll in action! He has fantastic potential like!
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Ed, can you comment about joe cole? i am a bit worried about him. i know he is a good player and i would hate to see we loose him, maybe kk will motivate him because i know he was injured. with respect to reina, if he wants to leave let him leave and any other players aswell. lfc is bigger than any players. maybe we can target these three english players because our squad is fantastic compare to when rafa and roy was incharge.
asley young
adam johnson
and joe hart if renia leaves

but if joe hart is not a option we can go for the irishman in shay given
and the scots man in charlie adam is a good option as well.
i prefer to give young english, wales scots and irish players preference to other nationality players

my dream squad and foration is

reina
kelly carragher (glen johnson)
adams meriles
young gerrard (adam johnson)
suarez caroll

glenn johnson is rb and not lb but we can convert him. he is a good utility player who i think can play any where on the field. very good pace. i watch all the games when he play at lb , i have not seen anyone past him so far.

7 england
1 urugauy
1 scotland
1 portugal
1 spain {ed's note - Joe Cole is not good enough to get in the team, it is that simple.}

I think its time we got rid of the deadwood and got some real quality in this summer
Sell
Kyriakos 0
Koncheskey 2 million
Insua 4 million
Poulson 3 million
Aquilani 12 million
Maxi 4 million
Joe Cole 4 million
Jovanovic 5 million
Kuyt 8 million
= 41 million
+ 50 million from torres
= 94 million

Buy
Richards 9 million
Hummels 10 million< anyone seen him? quality for dortmound, he is a centre back only 22 can even play as a defensive mid, passes like alonso and has 1 hell of a shot on him, kinda reminds of beckanbauer a bit which is scary
Tawio free
Warnock 3 million
Adam 7 million
Marvereaux free
Annan 5 million
Young 14 million
A.Johnson 12 million
Hazard 18 million
Ruiz/ Lavezzi 12 million
= 90 million
By doing that, the owners won't have to dip their hand in their pockets like they did for suarez and carroll (btw ed i think you should create a chants page because i have a shed load of chants about Carroll and Suarez plus a few hate ones about you know who, that were emailed to me)
I think Kenny will get the job full time, just look at the impact he has made with the players and the fans, plus the fact he has indicated he will be buying players in the summer. Do you think Kenny will get the job full time ed?
Dan {ed's note - as soon as there is time the chant page will be done and yes I think Kenny will be full time.}

i would suggest a start of

But we love you

the rest i leave to someone else. .

For once in a very long time I am really optimistic about Liverpools ambitions. Carroll is a risk at that price but believe me, this boy will terrorose defences for years to come. With the exception of the odd Kyriagkos header we have never looked like scoring from corners etc. He is strong, awesome in the air, will bring players in to play and has a lethal left foot. He will be instrumental against stubborn teams we have struggled to break down in the past. Now for Suarez. . .Torres is all right foot and a natural goalscorer. This boy is left foot, right foot, natural goalscorer, exquisite control, vision and workrate. He will offer far more to the team than just goals. I believe we will sign 2 top class wingers in the summer, a left back and perhaps a centre half. We have attracted some good young talent to the club already and this will continue. Torres will really regret leaving our club. Chelsea have an ageing team and it will cost a fortune to replace the likes of Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Anelka, Cole etc. I think they will have too much for us this weekend but the future is very exciting for lFC, but Torres, you silly silly boy. . . .

I wanted to share this with all true red supporters. . . . . .I wrote it during the hectic days of the recent transfer activities and hope you all like it and that the Eds post it

! ! YNWA

I just read this article and just wanted to paste it on here. Because for me it's 100% correct in what Kenny has done and means to LFC.

"Well if someone switched off their television sets on 5th January 2011 and turned it back on yesternight. I'm sure they wouldn't have believed it was LIVE (I understand that game might not have been on TV in the UK).

He/ she would have thought- 'This can't be happening! Surely not!' 'This can't be the 2010-11 season LFC' 'This can't be the Liverpool of 30 days ago! ' and would have been thinking 'What the F**k! '

Surely, one man can't do so much. Surely one man can't bring about so much change. Surely one man can't make millions and millions of smile after such an ordinary season. Surely not. I mean, How can he?

Who gave him the right to be sooo potent? Who gave him the authority to make his predecessor look so ordinary? Who empowered him to turn the relegation scrap team into a Europe challenging team? Who does he think he is, some King?

The rhythm, the energy, the intent, the power, the stamina, the sync, the love, the camaraderie, the passing, the shooting, the defending, the marking, the pressure, the movement, the pace, the dedication, the desire, the gutso, the dreams, the passion, the belief, the ambition - how can one man change all that in so less time? How can he work the crowd to brilliantly? How can he motivate 7 continents at the same time? How can he convert some million depressed souls into people bouncing 15 hours after the game? How can he shut up the shrillest of reporters with a few words and a dry smile? How does everyone listen to what he has to say? Why do these reporters dread speaking to him? Why do these guys have to hide behind fans and still be stripped naked on live TV on their own channels? Does this guy think he is some King?

Then again, you can look at the smaller aspects of the game to know where it all changed. The first half was unfolding slowly. The crowd was silent. The players were getting into a new system. And that's when the most potent weapon in unleashed that will change the color of the game. It wasn't Suarez. It was the Kop. Suarez was asked to warm-up along the sidelines and the entire stadium came to life. The flavor of the game changed entirely. How can you justify a man using 42,000 players against 11? I mean, how can he do that? How do you make an entire stadium play? Who does he think he is, some sorta King?

Guys, that's our King Kenny! Long live the king and long live his kingdom.

Thank you Sir, for bringing this smile back on my face

Blair Mayne YNWA

Go and read the interviews Kenny, Andy and Luis have given on the LFC website - it is a really good read - those two boys are up for the cause

I will give anyone the benefit of the doubt, but have to be honest and say I had reservations about Andy, but the lad is conducting himself brilliantly - he speaks passionately about his former club and its fans, but also speaks with excitement and passion about what he has in store at LFC.

Suarez has passion off the pitch to match that on it - he has exceeded my expectations already - I am impressed.

And it all comes down to the legend himself - Kenny is a class act - he is just pure class. I am constantly reading the official site lately because I love reading what he has to say about the club, its players, and football in general. I used to steer clear of the site when poor Roy was at the helm!

I can't remember the last time I felt so excited about LFC (and we are in 7th with no title chance)!

WELL IM A SCOUSER AND LIVE VERY CLOSE TO ANFIELD, SO LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE AND I'LL COME AND TEACH YOU SOME MANNERS!

I will see if I can find out, these kind of things are normally common knowledge.}

- - - - - -

Just working backwards here, the players who have been here since Torres arrived are Agger, Skrtel (from jan), Stevie G, Carra, Reina, Lucas, Spearing, Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio.

Most likely not Carra, Stevie G or Reina, from the way the player speaks about them leaving 6 players - with a slim possibility of Babel (i stress the word 'slim').

So who do you think it is from the list of: Lucas, Spearing, Kuyt, Aurelio, Agger or Skrtel
