Great win again, 3 draws followed by 3 wins which is great. One thing that has really struck me is how much we have improved defensively. Klopp has instantly given the defenders and keeper confidence in their abilities. It always frustrated me that Sakho, would play amazingly well for France but then didn't seem able to translate to his Liverpool form, and was sad because we all knew how good a defender he is.

since Klopp has come in, he has been a beast. Same as Skrtel who has been improving week on week. Is the first time since Rafa's days where I can look at a game and feel confident we won't concede a silly goal. Looking at tonights game sadly i only caught the 2nd half, but we looked totally dominant all the way through, and is a very difficult place to go get a result.

This is one reason why i hate the Europa league, the away games in eastern europe can be draining. We really should have won by more, i feel we are missing that little spark, the little bit of magic upfront and the engine in midfield, and if we get that we will be golden. when we have a fully fit squad, we will get back the engine in Hendo and the little bit of magic in Sturridge.

But we are slowly getting steam up. Could Klopp get the record for most undefeated period of any new manager at Liverpool? Only Sir Bob stands in his way. YNWA.

Thought everyone had a good Game. Best performance from Ibe in a long time. Firmino is improving by the game. Even Milner and Allen played well today. I'm excited for the next one.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

06 Nov 2015 07:37:40
Firmino definitely getting better with each game. Disagree about Allen and milner. Both were p**s poor as always. Time to move them on and let klopp bring in his own players.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would love to know what people thought Milner did well, as I might have missed it. He wasn't as bad as he has been, but still he was terrible. Allen just has so little effect on a game, it is pointless him being there. At the level we are at, players should have an effect on the game to deserve a place.}

06 Nov 2015 09:18:29
Allen was reasonably good yesterday and much was due to the fact how poor were Kazan.
Considering you have slagged of two players and Ed mentioning the effect factor. What does Lallana effect any game?
He in all honesty has no place in a team which has two super Kool No.10.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Nov 2015 09:25:30
didnt milner make a good run and hit the bar? The only issue I am having at the moment is can, but he's young and will improve. I know milner and allen are average but I feel they did their job.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 22:16:10
Brilliant win, fantastic to look forward to the next game again. Another clean sheet, on the road solid performance all round. To finish I wanted to say Allen did his job well too. He's gotten plenty of stick, sometimes deserved, but he did his job and did it well. I wish he would be more consistent. He seems to be a decent fella and just felt it needed to be said.

Best performance in Europe for a good few years. English teams usually struggle in Russia so this was especially pleasing. Defensively we looked very strong and that's two games in a row for Lovren keeping a clean sheet so let's hope his confidence grows as he was a class act for Southampton.
These are early days in Klopps era but already 6 games undeafted including Spurs, Chelsea and Rubén away you can't ask for much more.
In a few weeks time when Henderson and Sturridge return we will have even more options and with the window around the corner it's a good feel factor again. 👏🏻.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

05 Nov 2015 22:54:11
Exactly what I was thinking, any team in England would be happy with a win away in Russia, no matter what the score, they'd also be pleased no losses against Southampton Spurs and Chelsea, and go through in the cup, despite penalties, Chelsea and United didn't! Things are looking up.

Agree4 Disagree1

06 Nov 2015 08:03:18
You know Ruben have had a start to the season that makes Chelsea look solid right?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - but they have also shown improved form since drawing 1-1 with us.}

06 Nov 2015 08:50:00
You know they sacked their manager and have got like 3 wins in their last 5 games or something right? You know Ruben have beat Spurs and Chelsea 1-0 and never lost to an English team before yesterday and had only lost 1 time at their stadium before. A very good win no matter what. Did you see the playing surface?

05 Nov 2015 20:29:02
The crossing was poor in general but we got a few in which benteke was very static for. He seemed to be having to flick balls on more today where we were pressed so high he never tried to bring it down much or knock it back. He's clearly a good player, maybe just needs a note or two from heskey (lol) about unselfish play like drawing defenders out or knocking the ball down and moving on.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

05 Nov 2015 20:54:00
Really really poor observations Fencey, I lost count of the number of little flicks he did round the corner for midfielders to run onto. He had a very good game both offensively and defensively imo.

Agree7 Disagree2

05 Nov 2015 21:29:39
I don't know. Benteke got greedy with that weak-ass overhead kick. Going for glory, but with a little more awareness, should have just let it go, and it would have been laid up perfectly for Firmino who was all alone in front, and onside.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 21:36:16
I thought Benteke was Ok overall, he ran and pressed well enough and the 90 minutes will have done him good.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 21:53:50
Benteke did ok. He is what he is! A good strong centre forward. His power is his asset and he does hold it up, bring others into play and has a decent final product. It's not unpredictable but still it's difficult to stop and therefore an asset.

He doesn't have the movement that some of our creative players may desire. but he is what he is! He provides a platform for offensive play, something that was missing when the young lad Origi played.

This means that the opposition have to drop numbers around him knowing that he may win even a hopeful punt forward. Thus creating more space in midfield or in attacking positions. I've got to say I'm warming to him. I really liked his willingness to track back tonight.

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 22:59:14
So simon, flicks round the corner or flick ons as I put it are what I was saying I wanted to see less of, then you just said he did plenty? So you're agreeing with me. Yeah it's okay at times, but I'd rather him knocking them down too players, like for coutinhos second Saturday? Don't think you can question my observation skills too much haha.

Agree1 Disagree4

05 Nov 2015 23:33:08
He did it with his feet Fencey, little 1st time touches round the corner when the ball was passed to him not with his head. I didn't agree with you at all. He held the ball up well when he had the opportunity to, the only time the headers weren't controlled was when he had no opportunity to get control of the ball because of the pass or good pressure from his marker.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 20:12:11
It's interesting to see what klopp is doing with the squad. He's clearly trying to build a feeling of "playing for one another" . The celebration from the bench, the elation at the time of the goal with the fans. It's what I love about football. The great shanks called it a holy trinity, the fans, the manager and the players. That sort of discards the manager of singling out players just because certain section of fans don't want him. I back any manager in the world to pick a team. Reap rewards of a consistently good selection (in terms of trophies) and suffer the consequences of consistently bad picks (getting a sack) . It's what they are paid heavily to do. So while we trust the intelligent man at the helm to pick the team he thinks is the best. Let's get behind the team! Such intelligent posters in here, yet they sometimes let the fifa fantasy manager get the better of themselves. :P

P. S. - has anybody seen the klopp song on yt - "if you're Jurgen and you're German, klopp your hands 👏👏" lol! Classic!

You cannot argue with a win, defo not an away win in Europe. I still prefer we play our strongest 11 every game becuase we may pay a price at the end.

Our inability to translate our posession to goals is still very frustrating. Our crossing into the box still very poor. With Couts on the pitch we would have scored 2-3 more and with a fit Sturridge more.

Can, Milner not good enough today (and all season tbh) for me. Allen is Allen. Firmino great touch and movement, he really starts to show his worth but I still hope for better finishing from him. Good goal from Ibe, should have buried the second chance as well and wasn't very impressive until then but at least he scored his first goal. Hopefully it will give him confidence.

And Klopp seems to be doing some magic, you can really see how if it was BR today we would have conceded an annoying goal in the last five minutes, with Klopp this somehow doesn't happen.

05 Nov 2015 20:27:15
I agree with you on Milner but I actually thought emre can had a decent game he was so strong and held the ball up really well the Rubén players really struggled against him, as for Ibe I thought he was very impressed, excellent on the ball, looked lively and our best source of attack deserved his goal and was my MOM. Bright future ahead for the lad and exciting times under klopp!

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 20:27:18
Ibe wasn't impressive? What arw you talking about? He was one of the liveliest players on the pitch always taking on oopponent successfully too.

Agree5 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 20:29:20
I agree about Can.

The lad is still relatively young etc, but he still gives the ball away and struggles under these tactics.

Them storming runs often end up nowhere too.

Still, fingers crossed he sharpens up on his technique.

Agree1 Disagree3

05 Nov 2015 21:39:46
This was by far Ibe's best game of the season and it actually has nothing do with his goal, he didn't lose the ball once, all or most of his passes came off, and was a menace with his skill all night going inside or outside Rubin had to eventually double on him which opened up more room. He also took his goal brilliantly like a seasoned pro, a much needed confidence booster for Ibe.

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 20:09:59
Decent performance and result I think.

Standout performer for me was Ibe, I really hope he gets a chance in the EPL now from the start. He had a very complete performance, not only in the way he runs at defenders but also threw in a few decent crosses.

Although we had a lot of possession (as constantly reminded to me by possibly the worst commentator of all time Alexi Lalas) there was no real penetration until the goal, I felt Firmino and Milner were quite wasteful when getting into the final third at times. I remember this particularly irking me when Clyne (? ) sprinted down the right into space only for Firmino to dither a bit and then get the ball there.

Defence was sound, Sakho was excellent and I was also hugely impressed with Lovren. You could argue that Kazan didn't offer much going forward to sufficiently test Lovren, however, I thought he was really good when pressing on the couple of occasions Kazan got past Can and Allen and he seemed to win everything in the air. I'd like to see him start alongside Sakho on the weekend, even considering Skrtel's relative improvement recently.

I was really impressed with the defensive efforts by every player to be honest, the midfield especially were a cohesive unit in their defensive efforts.

Certainly signs of progress, I'm just surprised (touch wood) how quickly Jurgen has unified the team and we look very comfortable defending right now, always a problem in Rodgers' era.

YNWA.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

05 Nov 2015 20:30:47
Agree about Ibe, but he's had plenty of chances mate.

Thing with his was that there was an unrealistic expectation from the fans aimed at him for such a young player.

Great prospect though.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 20:41:58
I'm halfway to agreeing with you. Yes, I think the fans expectations have been a little too high for such a young lad, however it is not without warrant. He can be electrifying and save for the woodwork would have scored a couple of screamers for us by now.

I disagree about him having plenty of chances in the EPL (if that is what you are referring to), under Klopp anyway. I echo Ed001's thoughts in that he was trying to hard earlier on this season, but this is one of the best managers in the world (especially considering his track record improving young talent), I expect him to start against Palace under Klopp.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 22:07:04
I think Firmino is starting to show himself as a clever little player. I'm not sure if we are talking about the same incident, but Firmino only dithered on the ball because Benteke took Clyne space making the pass an obvious one to defend. The pass can only ever be as good as the run made and vice versa.

Unless it was a fluke, any doubts about his ability should have been allayed after a few minutes with the lay up for milner to hit the bar. Not only was it the right pass to play, the weight of the pass was sublime. It may have looked simple but it showed great composure.
He's one of those players who will really come alive with good movement ahead of him.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 22:46:00
There were several occasions in which he dithered a bit, that is all. It just sort of got on my nerves a bit, he'll pull the trigger more appropriately as he gets sharper. Milner as well, just really frustrating watching his attacking play.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 20:09:21
Superb performance tonight. totally dominant in a way we haven't been in Europe for years.
I'm trying not to get carried away but I love the way we're starting to look difficult to beat and more together as a unit under Klopp.
Okay, Rubin Kazan aren't that great but we won a game easily that, to be frank, under BR we'd have been set out to draw. We actually look. GERMAN!

Believable6 Unbelievable0

05 Nov 2015 20:05:18
Great performance.
Only negative was we didn't score more than one.
Anyone who talks about Sakho looking like "bambi on ice" (I hate that term) is so far off the mark. He is so composed on the ball and his distribution is incredible. He's arguably our best passser!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

05 Nov 2015 20:24:00
He's definitely as cool as ice! The way he does little flicks in pressure situations made me want to watch the game through my fingers initially. But now he does it like a boss and I'm more used to it! Hahah.

Agree4 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 21:05:44
FLIDBY, are you for real, under the JOLLY RODGER he was bambi on ice, he was a bag of nerves, I was his worst critic, but under KLOPP he's the most improved player by a country mile and that's what happens when you have a top manager at the helm, one of the biggest changes in our play that I can see is the way we use the full width of the pitch and once we get 2 quality and I mean quality wide men we will be devastating on the break. well done JURGEN.

Agree1 Disagree5

06 Nov 2015 08:20:49
Sakho was our best defender even under Rodgers hands down. Don't know what games you people were watching really. His calmness in stealing the ball under pressure and giving deadly passes is remarkable.
Rodgers was as blind as you wembley.

Agree1 Disagree1

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Nov 2015 19:57:17
I think today we saw what Firmino can do. Creative,1 touch, dribbling, creating, tracking back. Can't wait to see him being in top form!

It's also great to see ibe back to being his best! Totally changed man ever since Klopp taken over. Beating his man, out pace everyone, even score a goal. Need to work more on his crossing and corner though.

Even lovren look stable and compose.

Amazing performance overall. Dominate the first 70 min and withstand the last 20min. Could have score at least 2 to 3 more goals. But it's our first win in Europa in this season! And 3 wins in a row!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

05 Nov 2015 20:11:27
Firmino, although he did create that goal quite brilliantly, irked me by dithering on the ball on numerous occasions in the final third. I'm sure he will only improve though and I'm looking forward to it :)

05 Nov 2015 20:23:13
Yap I get what you mean. But he's back from injury not long ago and imo best performance so far this season.

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 21:42:36
I don't think Firmino had a good game. He was ok, he can do much more. He kept on shooting first half when he could have done better, didn't shoot in the 2nd half probably under instructions from klopp.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Nov 2015 22:13:44
It's funny you are all saying that.

I thought Firmino was maybe our best player. He was the focal point of much of our creativity in the final third. Created the Ibe goal with a beautiful pass. Nutmegged the hell out of a Ruben player and then sent Milner in on goal, who as usual, wasted the great opportunity.

Also, I must say, it must be frustrating for Firmino to provide these creative passes, but then never get the same thoughtful passes in return.

How many times in the last few games did I see Firmino, after handing off a nice pass to a teammate, perfectly time a run such that if a very simple through ball was sent on, he would be in on goal all by himself. But the through balls never come.

Milner, who has dismal awareness, did this against Chelsea.

And this game, Benteke missed such an opportunity twice.

In both cases, Milner/Benteke, instead of threading through a pass, dump a simple pass off to a player out wide, who is easily marked, which completely kills the attack.

This is why it would be nice to have Coutinho dropping deeper into central midfield. He'd see those through ball opportunities. Sakho also sees them, but our forwards need to do a lot better.

Harry Redknapp. Still getting on my nerves every time he's on. Why is he always on our games. A few of us have said it before, but clearly there's an issue. Perhaps it's just jealousy as Klopp is adored and in demand and Harry is the exact opposite.

He's wanted the job for a long time. He's said before that if there was one job in football he'd like it would be Liverpool manager. There may be a bit of jealousy creeping in there. It's actually a 'chicken dragon' - I'm not making this up, promise. It's from an old Russian Myth/Fairytale in which the chicken dragon saves a poor Russian woodcutter from a rich baron. The baron isn't scared as he has people ready to put out the fires. The chicken dragon kills him by dropping an egg on him. There's a moral to the story there ;-)

Anyone else just have a feeling about firmino? He's been alright, nothing wrong as such, but he hasn't scored or contributed overly, I know he's only recently started playing where he should be.
However ever time he's picked I just feel hopeful that he will produce, don't really get that With many other players bar coutinho. I think he felt a but of an outsider when he joined forced to play wide to earn his place, but if he's at cam today, I think we'll see what he's about more.

I said before and ill say it again.

He is a player who you won't actually realise what he does in the team, similar to when Lucas started out before people tool notice. Firmino making a few runs in behind, creating space for others, or the little cute touches he makes to other players linking the play. I like him, I don't think we will see an awful lot more again like with Lucas (no goals and assists or great long passing all the stuff you label mids with) .

What are you talking about, Paulo? He scored 16 goals for Hoffenheim 2 years ago and gets a good amount of assists too. Whilst he may not have done much in a liverpool shirt so far he's just getting into his stride and I expect to see returns in the coming weeks.

Very happy to see a strong side taking the field. Also I'm for once happy that Lucas isn't playing as it just proves that Klopp is no mug and resting him for the prem where we need him most in my opinion.

Sakho-Lovren starting for the first time together since the 3-0 win over Tottenham early last season. Allen, Benteke, Ibe starting also. Lucas, Coutinho, Skrtel, Lallana drop to the bench.

Off the Gerrard Topic:

January buys:

With Klopp disagreeing with what Rodgers has stated over the past few season with the sense of a big over haul of players. I can see him possibly buying only 2,3 players in January and that is only because of the injuries that we have been hit with.

Hey edo001 ond all other supporters, up to now, in his short timr, what have you impressed the most from Klopp?
I like the fact, that he sees what's wrong and say it how it is and tries to fix it
What about you? Feel free to add your opinion.

{Ed001's Note - I think his charisma, he is a breath of fresh air.}

05 Nov 2015 16:39:59
His positive thinking and no excuses, if we play bad he is the first to say, if we play great he is the first to praise. I like the way he hugs the players and congratulates all of them. He also high fives the opposition players when they come off the pitch. Like Ed said he is a breathe of fresh air and i hope he stays around for a long time as i think he will improve and get the team just right.

I really hope the Gerrard stuff goes quiet asap. I live reading the banter in here but the Gerrard stuff is really boring stuff. If he wants to run around with the team to avoid getting obese in offseason, I think that is wonderful.

On to interesting stuff: anyone think Reus would be a realistic target (summer obviously) or is another one bound for Bayern or Madrid?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

05 Nov 2015 16:01:24
I think he is Barca-bound. I am excited to see which unknown player Klopp discovers to turn into stars of the future, so much more satisfying. Also excited to see which, if any, of our youth players turn into star players for the first team.

With all this talk about Gerrard coming back and him potentially doing his coaching badges, does anyone else think that Lucas appears to have all the characteristics that would make him a great manager?

His reading of the game is in my opinion way above the level of most players, in that he perceives plays as if he is watching the game from a camera that covers the whole pitch while he is playing at the incredible pace football is played in the EPL.

His character is that of someone who leads by example. He is always composed so he can definitely handle pressure and appears to be one of those rare intelligent footballers.

I know he still has a lot to offer as a footballer and it'll be a few years before he has to make a decision on whether his future will continue to be in football, but I just wanted to know what others made of this.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

05 Nov 2015 11:19:24
No i don't think lucas would make a good manager i think he is to much of a nice guy i think to be a good manager you need to have abit of a ruthless streak in you specially when you have to deal with some of these modern day pre madonnas. Maybe a good coach but for me no as a manager.

Its hard to tell these things in advance. I heard Ferguson saying once that if he had to guess who of his players would become a PL manager he would have never in million years guess Mark Huges and Steve Bruce.

You can simply never tell. You can analyze and look into your crystal ball, as much as you want, but you can never tell how good a manager, a player will be, until he's in charge. But football history is littered with phenomenal players who simply had no clue as managers. I would mention only Diego Maradona, Ossie Ardiles, Souness and Hristo Stichkov, as a few that come to mind. On the flip side, who would have guessed that the translator that Bobby Robson hired at Barcelona would be the "special one" (Jose Mourinho), today? If you were to ask the "most talented player and influential manager" of our times, I would immediately say Johan Cruyff. Aside from unquestioned world class talent, the man influenced the Dutch style of football for decades, and brought that style to Barcelona as player and coach, and made it what it is today.

With regards to gerrard lfc are constantly reminded that we live off our history bringing gerrard back is just justifying that. Was hea great player in his prime yes a club legend yes but at the same time lfc need to be looking to the future not the past we need to be finding the new gerrards not bringing back the old one who regardless of what people say will try and take over and throw his infleunce around, gerrard is past it and deserves to be left in the past. Since he left he's acted with no class at all does he deserve to come back not in my opinion leave klopp to get on with it he is the future of lfc.

Believable6 Unbelievable6

As long as he does not play for them, there should be no issues. Ideally he never plays in the premier league for us or for any other team other than training to stay fit. And once he is done with the mls, maybe take up his coaching badges in a lower tier club and work his way up the food chain.
