Can overseas players be unveiled after signing a pre contract agreement or do they have to wait till July when the actual contract is signed?

Anyone else agree that bojan is just Barca's version of Carlos Vela, looks amazing when u're bossing games or against much weaker opposition.

But will never be able to play at the top level, and that is why Barca and Arsenal are cashing in.

Hey Ed, just wondering how much is the fee we have agreed for Roma GK Doni worth and also is he coming to replace a GK that is leaving (such as Brad Jones perhaps) or will he be the new No 2? Please answer both these questions and post in rumours. Thanks. {Ed001's Note - I have no idea of the fee, but he is coming to replace Brad Jones as No 2 keeper.}

06 Jun 2011 23:08:04
If doni has signed is it as back up ed or is it to replace reina? {Ed001's Note - back up, he is to replace Jones.}

You know what winds me up about young going united?! not that they are Liverpool's biggest enemy and he snubbed us to go there. It is that if people are right and he is only going there to make the bench stronger.
What a waste of a gifted footballer and i hope he comes on the website ( 95 % chance he does not) and reads what the scum fans think of him! he has not even signed yet but they are all ready criticizing him and saying they hope he does not sign.

Ed is roma keeper a back up 4 pepe?cheers Jodethered {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Bloody hell where is all this keeper talk coming from?! Is Doni really signing? I've only been gone for a bit to go have a bite to eat and come back and we've apparently signed a keeper! haha, thanks Ed.

maka {Ed001's Note - it has caught out everyone, I even had someone working for the club and a player's close relative text me to ask if it was true! But I am told it is spot on and the info has leaked out of Rome.}

Might Doni be part of a deal for Aquilani to move back to Roma?

{Ed001's Note - fee is agreed, just got to agree personal terms with the player now.}
Ed do you no how much the fee is then? this deal was kept in the quiet. pops {Ed001's Note - I don't, I only got confirmation it was agreed but a lol when I asked about the price. I have no idea whether that is a good lol or a you don't want to know lol or what!}

06 Jun 2011 22:54:14
please please please can the Alonso rumours stop! he's not coming back. he's hitting 30 and we have plenty of midfielders coming through and we're looking at henderson. i would love him back but lets face it, he's gone and if he does come back it may be for a coaching role. real madrid would want stupid money for him anyway. any thoughts on that Ed? {Ed001's Note - we have shown no interest in getting him back either. I just can't see this happening.}

06 Jun 2011 22:49:39
Hey Ed.

Adel Taraabt has popped up in the rumours again. you think he'll be a good addition? i personally think he's not good enough.

any thoughts? {Ed001's Note - I would be extremely disappointed if he signed for us. He would not fit into a passing team.}

This is not LFC related but apparently Spanish opera singer Placido Domingo is going to be an adviser to FIFA to help sort out all the problems!! I give up, all the problems within FIFA and they turn to a b***dy opera singer!! Maybe when we had our problems with Dumb and Dumber we should have brought in Shirley Bassey

Towards the end of last season, Dalglish made a pertinent point which offered both an insight into the type of players Liverpool would be in the market for this summer and the importance of the club being single minded in their pursuit of these targets.

"If people want to see the best players and assets of football club wearing a red shirt, that's what we want to try and provide, " the Liverpool manager said. "We want to get the highest quality of player in that we can. That's what position we have been put into, and that's what we will try to do. Who judges players? Whose opinion is it that matters? It's the people that go after them. Some others might not think they are the highest quality, but it's our opinion that matters most."

That Dalglish is adamant that only the views of himself, Damien Comolli and the club's scouting department is all that matters when it comes to deciding whether or not a player is good enough for Liverpool should provide a major reassurance to everyone desperate to see the club regain its place among English football's elite. The moment a manager falls prey to outside influences he ceases to be a manager. In that role, you cannot afford to be swayed by public opinion, this is Liverpool Football Club after all, not Pop Idol.

Anyone wanting to understand how Dalglish will do things this summer could do a lot worse than seek out a book called The Secret Diary Of A Liverpool Scout, a brilliant account of the work of the legendary Geoff Twentyman who worked with Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan. There may be those who believe that modern day scouting is a world apart from how it was done when Twentyman was recruiting some of the best players English football has seen but Dalglish knows better than anyone that the basics remain the same.

He will be looking for the same things that Twentyman sought out, the kind of qualities that served Liverpool so well in the past and which can do so again in the future. If a player can pass and move, has a good temperament and a winning mentality then he has the starting points needed to become a Liverpool player. Of course, there are a multitude of such players currently plying their trade in football so then it comes down to the eye of the person scouting them and, according to those in the game, there are few better than Dalglish at spotting talent.

We have been here before, of course. Go back to 1987 when Dalglish was working on putting together arguably the greatest ever Liverpool side. John Aldridge was the first signed and it might be hard to imagine now but at the time there were plenty who questioned whether an Oxford United player and someone who once played in the Liverpool Sunday League would be good enough for a title challenging team.

The same went for John Barnes who aroused suspicion because he had been inconsistent at Watford and had not attracted bids from any of the top English clubs when Liverpool came in with a £900,000 offer for his services. The capture of Peter Beardsley for a then club record of £1.9 million prompted less doubt with the only real concern being that his signing would inevitably push Dalglish the player ever closer to retirement.

When Ray Houghton and Nigel Spackman, two steady but far from spectacular players with Oxford and Chelsea respectively, were brought in there were those who wondered why Liverpool were not in the market for top stars. Dalglish saw things differently. In his eyes he had bought a quintet of stars and the world just did not know it yet. He was proven right in the most spectacular fashion as Liverpool swept all comers aside and romped to the league title playing some of the best football ever seen in this country.

All that was down to Dalglish's ability to spot a player and then to mould a team around his new signings and those already at the club. It is an art and he is an artist. That is why when we debate whether or not a transfer target is good enough for Liverpool as we all do there is one man who is better placed than any of us to decide that and that man is Kenny Dalglish.

I am glad that we have agreed a deal for Doni and hopefully the signing will be completed soon. He will be the best back-up keeper by far and is probably better than most of the EPL teams first 'keepers. Would you agree ed?

Thanks. {Ed001's Note - I don't know to be honest, not seen a lot of him and can't say what I saw impressed me, he looked a bit of a flapper in the couple of games I saw! But I wouldn't judge him on that few games anyway, so I will wait and see how he does for us, if he joins.}

not a rumour , but just saw the alonso interview . what a genuinely great guy he is . is a true red and has liverpool in his vains. all the rumours about all the different players coming .but what a lift for everyone if we got xabi back . cant see it cos he makes real madrid tick . but commoli would be a legend if he could bring him back .

So sky bet is spam.Its a legitimate betting site.Just like William Hill, Paddy Power etc, and they all offer odds of player movement.When a players odds in this case Phil Jones go from 5/1 slight fav over Arsenal at 6/1 and an hour later Liverpool are odds on and Arsenal 10's and drifted to 12' and Manure and Citys 16s.It means that he's got a great chance of joining us in my opinion. I wonder why some people thinks that LiverpoolFC will buy Henderson for 18.5 Pounds and use him as back up for Meireles or Gerrard. I guess there is a foul play in here. I suspect that lfc want to sell Gerrard to Real Madrid as there has been a long term interest in the lad by Mourinho. I think the deal will involve Alonso returning back to Anfield. any idea, Edds??? {Ed001's Note - I doubt it.}

Why people are coming up with crazy sums for Hendersons wages I'll never know. He is currently on £15,000 per week so why would we offer him £70,000...we are trying to fix our current wage situation not make it worse.

Liverpool are negotiating a deal for Mata as we speak, the media sources on the net just want to be the first report which will be Liverpools first signal of intent. Fenway are here to win and are not penny pinchers just sensible. Winning matters a big deal and performances so quality will come in trust me they know what money buys you. If they spend 23mill on suarez and 35 on Carroll they know if they want better players than these two they will need to pay top dollar. The premier league better be prepared as JH doesn't joke he gets what he wants we have all seen his misses right so enough said. Mata is coming no smoke without fire.

As reported by Sky Sport 24, the Roma have reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the sale of Brazilian goalkeeper, Doni Marangon. Now the ball is the same player who must decide whether to accept the offer of the English club.

ref mata

from La provincias (excuse the cut/paste eds) Nov 2010
Valencia winger and Spain international Juan Mata looks set to get his much awaited new contract in the coming days. Both Valencia and Mata's agent (his father, also named Juan Mata) have agreed to all the details, and the only thing left to be done is for the actual contract itself to be written up by the club.

Mata (who currently makes 800,000 per season) will see his wages increased to 1.6 million (net) per season. The contract will run until the summer of 2015, and Mata's new wages will take affect as soon as he signs his new deal. This will make Mata one of the five highest paid players at the club (David Albelda, Joaqu n S nchez, Vicente Rodr guez, and Asier del Horno all make more).

The buyout clause is rumored to be 60 million. However, when players are sold, the buyout clause is usually not met. It is used primarily as a starting point for transfer negotiations.

That leads to one of the strangest clauses in the contract. It has been agreed by both the club and Mata's agent, that any offer made by any club for Juan Mata must be discussed between the player, his agent, and the club, without a transfer fee being agreed between the two teams first, which is how transfers usually work.

To give a hypothetical example: A club can come in and offer Mata double his wages ( 3.2 million net), and not offer VCF a transfer fee. Mata and his agent can then go to VCF and demand that those wages offered by the new club be met, and if they are not, then Valencia would be required to sell Mata, even if the transfer fee offered, and eventually agreed upon, is below the winger's market value.

Offers can be made to the club itself, or to Mata's agent directly, and then brought to the club.

Usually, the two teams involved in a transfer agree on the transfer fee first, and then the new club will negotiate a new contract with the player.

Who knows

so its looking like:
lb:enrique/izaguirre/vargas
cb:jones/dann
lw:marveaux and either mata/downing/a.johnson
rw:young/perotti/payet/turan
cm:henderson/mccarthy/adam/sissoko/matuidi
st:wickham possibly muniain

06 Jun 2011 21:21:39
If the current rumours of 18.5m for Henderson are true, it begs the question of how big LFC summer budget is, given that CM is not our primary requirement!!!

Anyone have any ideas?

i cant believe some of the people on this site, absurd views to say the least. meireles out? why get rid of a player with technical talent, in a team so bereft of creativity and guile. he had a good season, not fantastic but a decent contribution considering it was his first year in english football, how anyone can compare him to spearing is quite frankly ridiculous, two completly different players who give the team different aspects of play.
The lucas hate starts again? you dont get into the brazil national squad for nothing, sandro who every media commentator has been visually masterbating over cant dislodge him, a player quoted at a price tag of around 18m. he does an excellent job, his work ethic is spot on, there is no doubting hes technically gifted, every fan i have spoken to has ate their words about him, this delusional mentality that 'star players' are needed in every position, the best teams are built upon a base of homegrown talent and continental stars, think milan in the 90's, ajax in the 70's and of course barca. How are english players not good enough? before barca won the last cl final, english football had a stranglehold on the cl semis and indeed finals, its only the recent win and media fixation with barca that has led to cries of joy and other BS. Kenny knows what hes doing, look closely and henderson started rm for the u21, hes more than a cm. All good teams are a mix of different players, it doesnt matter what your views on a player are, if the managment see fit we should support, not condone. what makes you think aguaro would suit the prem? how would defour be a better instant option than mccarthy or henderson? cut the whinge and support who we bring in regardless of media fabrication and the old age ideology that foreign is better than english. i for one want a player to know our culture, relish in it and become a part of the liverpool fabric, not be a mercenary and diddle of to spain for a warmer climate. a blend of english and continetal is needed, and kenny sees this. sorry for the rant but the absurd views of the obscure minority dampen what was a pleasent and enjoyble site(still is) on the occasion.

Juan Mata....why would he come to Liverpool people ask........because we are LIVERPOOL......Mata is a good guy...a proper footballer not a mercenary....he is looking at joining a club where he will enjoy his football and be successful...he knows our heritage and pedigree ...if Kenny has been able to meet with him he will find it hard to resist joining us because Kenny will convince him that a new era is about to begin at Anfield.

People need to stop whinging about LFC being quoted at spending big figures on players! This time last year - we were searching for 2 million for Koncheskey! Get a grip, good times ahead!

Also I'd have Downing, Wickham, Henderson & Jones all day! Add Mata & Enrique to that list and I'd be happy!

Just got a word in from agent as I'm currently play in the lower english football leagues specifically the Npower league 1, who has contacts in the midlands area. Anyway he informed me that Juan Mata has agreed personal terms and the fee is undisclosed.

Juan Mata is world class why would he want to come to a club that is not in the champoins league or europa league

there's a lot of talk about a lot of players in terms of transfers coming into LFC, but why so qiet about Scott Parker ?? - young, english, proven and a quality player who is most definitely available....yes I know he may fancy staying in London, but players of his quality are few and far between so we should be makng a real effort to convince him to come...ideal player to cover or even replace Stevie G.... your thoughts Ed ?? {Ed001's Note - not good enough, couldn't handle it at Chelsea because they were too big for him.}

06 Jun 2011 19:43:30
How significant is Liverpool's 6th place finish in the decision of a player like Young or Mata? Im under no illusion that we can't attract the talent that real barca or milan will get this summer, but we are only a few good players away from getting back in the mix. You would think a young player would want to join a club on the rise and on the verge of the CL and not be destined for a spot on the bench at a bigger club.

The Reds have enjoyed a flourishing end to a campaign that started so dismally, and permanent manager-in-waiting Dalglish has already drawn up a transfer hit-list with director of football Damien Comolli.
One of the priority names on the list for this summer is left winger Mata, according to Spanish reporter Guillem Balague.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at the Mestalla, and has helped guide Valencia to third in the table with seven goals in 27 appearances.
And with the Spanish club crippled by around £350m-worth of debt, a bid in the region of £20million for Mata may be too much for them to resist.
Aston Villa s Ashley Young is also a reported target for the Reds, as Dalglish looks to fill the left-wing void in his side.
But he ll face stiff competition for the England international, as Manchester United are also known to

Hi ed's believe me or not but this is 100% true I live very close to Ashley Young and my cousin went to school with Young he was good friends with Young, he told me today that Young is closer to joining Liverpool than most people think he has two offers one from us and one from united as we all know, however most people believe he is United bound. Not true he is undecided and 50/50 between the two clubs the dilemma is that he was going to join united because of CL but they have turned their attention to Modric and Nasri for the meantime allowing Liverpool to persuade Young to join this has stuck Young in the dilemma he is in sorry for the long post but I thought I'd share the info with ya :) Great site keep up good work I'll try to post with any developments.

Liverpool are currently in talks with West Ham to bring Robert Green to Anfield. The Reds have been reported to have offered Green a two year deal but Green has asked for at least a three deal. Sources say Liverpool want Green after they gave Arsenal permission to talk to Pepe Reina over the weekend. Sources also say that Liverpool have enquired about Carlo Cudicini as well.

___________________________________

That's one of the stupidest rumours i have heard in a long time. Considering Reina has recently stated that he never wanted to leave and will not, that is a load of BS.

Get your facts sorted before posting stupid lies! I don't understand why you would do that!

On other news, I've heard that we have made a bid for Diego Perotti.

I cannot find this anywere in the Gurdian's website, blogs or newspaper, please could you help me be directed to this piece of information?

The Guardian itself does not report on transfer news unless it is concrete - it usually amalgamates all the rumours from the various tabloids and other sources and packages it as a 'Tales From The Tabs' section which often does not exist on the website.

Sources also say that Liverpool have enquired about Carlo Cudicini as well.

absolute rubbish, pepe reina isnt going anywhere, and lets face it if he ever did there are far better options than a relegated keeper and 2nd choce to gomez

Thanks as always

Not going to beat around the bush. It is just what I have heard from Spain in the last half hour. Juan Mata has been given permission to TALK to LFC. That is all, nothing more, as far as I know, no bids yet.
=========================================
We wouldn't be able to talk to Mata without a fee being agreed first.

LFC Pedro

=========================================

Therefore a fee has been agreed between the two clubs. His Release Clause is 30m which is £26m but I can see it being more like £23.5m which is what I heard.

LFC#1

=======================================
My original response was to the "...no bids yet" - it is safe to understand that if a fee has been agreed, it is the same as a bid being made (bids can be made and retracted as per the wish of the buying club). To say 'no bid' has been made is the same as saying the two clubs haven't agreed a fee - hence not being able to speak to said player. Too much speculation going on about Mata - wait for confirmation...but don't hold your breath.

Caroll, while over priced is one of the biggest prospects on england, and at different times so is the list of players u describe (or at least within Europe). Do u not think that going in at a low price is the right thing to do?

If u disagree then please never come and work in purchasing please

With Liverpool supposedly baulking at the price Newcastle want for Enrique, who do you think we are considering for the left back spot.Are we still interested in Vargas, he'd defo be my first choice but not heard nothing of him for a while, is he still being considered or does anybody have any ideas who we're realislically looking at for that position. Hey Ed

Do you think we are really interested in Henderson or could we be trying to raise the price for the mancs. They would have to be in pole position with bruce looking to sign all their cast off's and fergie reported as an admirer. I believe Young and Henderson will both end up at old traff

With fergie's comments around the valuation of charlie adam in january. Dont like us playing "tit" for "tat" but its bound to put his nose out of joint. Not that it will stop him poking it in LFC business

I believe Young and Henderson will both end up at old trafford but i guess they will have to pay a little more.....YNWA {Ed001's Note - there is no interest in playing silly games, Kenny will only look at players he wants.}

06 Jun 2011 17:56:30
Why are there all these rumours regarding signing european players when the transfer window does not open until july the 1st. Surely nothing can be done or announced until then.

Whilst i would love us to sign someone like Mata nothing will hapen until July 1st so people need to stop getting carried away and be realistic at the moment we can only buy british.

06 Jun 2011 17:53:58
Joey barton is 2/5 odds on to become a liverppol player, why the hell would we want him in our side. What do you think ed???? {Ed001's Note - he is odds on because his agent keeps telling anyone who will listen we want him in order to get him a new contract at Newcastle.}

Can't beleive all this negative talk about meireles .. surely one of our best players great vision, goals and assists, stood in for stevie GH for long enough Note for Ed 001 ... can't be compared so one dimensionally to Spearing and his tackling technique (not that impressed with it TBH. Sorry he annoys you ... but stay annoyed Raul's brill !!! {Ed001's Note - Raul is technically gifted, but he is still a bottler who pulls out of tackles, which is why he was moved to the wing. The comparison to Spearing was in reply to a point, so please read it all and understand the context before trying to argue. The point is that Jay would never pull out of a 50-50, in fact he flattened Yaya Toure in a 50-50 tackle against City.}

06 Jun 2011 17:10:15
I would love to see alonso come back, can't see it happening this season though, and I can't see us going in for him next year as he approaches 31. If Liverpool , as many believe to be the case, are going to be chasing the title let alone top four next season, I would love to see alonso as part of the team that lifts the long awaited premiership. That would truly cement his place as a Liverpool legend.

06 Jun 2011 17:09:14
There are soooooooo many better and cheaper central midfielders than Henderson we could get. 18m for him, I really can't see why, yes he's a decent player for sunderland and young with time to grow but he dosn't posses the flair and creativity we need. Banega or Defour would be my options as they are cheaper and much better players with more about them, hopefully Man U or City will get him.

Adam johnson is left footed so I would have thought he'd be a left winger but city play him on the right. Where does he play best ed? And do they play him on the right to accommodate silva? {Ed001's Note - left winger and Mancini is an idiot because he plays Silva on the left and Johnson on the right to accomodate Yaya Toure as an AM when it is Silva's best position.}

How have man united been so dominant in the premier league? it started with bringing in english players at young ages and using their youth system. Our youth system is one of the best in the world. Sterling, Coady, Kelly, Flanagan, Wisdom, Morgan, Suso, Shelvey are all going to be involved in the near future. Maybe not next year [some will] but somewhere down the line and having been playing with each other for a couple of years they will take the Premier League by storm. Add to this, Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Phil Jones and Conor Wickham, you have the greatest bunch of english lads in there and that will help us pursuit a future more than a present.

T-Dog.

Everyone who is going on about CL football at another club. For example - Ashley Young. Yes you can test yourself at the highest level, with Liverpool by getting into the CL in 2011/2012 and then winning it in 2012/2013. Not long to wait, whilst the team gels. Even if he did get CL at the scum, they are not going to win it anyway :)

06 Jun 2011 16:46:49
Hi Eds,
Instead of chasing fairly average player like Charlie Adam , why not bid for world class player like Scneijder ? He may cost 30 million but he's more of a Lfc player than Adam could ever be ! {Ed001's Note - because he wants 175k a week and can't play as a central midfield two.}

06 Jun 2011 16:45:20
why all the hype about charlie adam he is overrated not good enough for us what do you think ed {Ed001's Note - I am not sure but if Kenny says he is then I would take his opinion over mine every time.}

06 Jun 2011 16:40:22
Ed, what's all this news coming about Meireles leaving.....idoes he want to go. Do you rate him? Thanks in advance! {Ed001's Note - all I know is that he wasn't keen on playing on the wing and he is seen as very lightweight. I don't know if he is likely to go or not. As for rating him, he has ability but he bottles out of challenges all the time, I would happily sell him myself, I think we could do far better.}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not saying he had a glamorous first season. but since Kenny came he stepped up his game scored very important goals and our team looked solid and winning when he in the team. I know we are in the market for young and talented players but we also need experienced and skillful players in the squad. He may no be that most aggressive tackling midfielder, but he wins lots of intelligent tackles, he doesn't give out stupid free kicks, ESPN player for the year, The fittest players in the league (in terms of injury). Alonso was not the fastest player either. but he was composed in the midfield. Meireles is also composed in midfield, can make intelligent passes can shoot from anywhere and score goals. And his wage is only £30mil a week. What else do you expect from a player on his first season?
The problem with us is we forget how good our players are. Not many of us stood out for Alonso when he was going to be replaced barry. He never had a heroic treatment while he was with us. when he had that excellent season and left to Madrid, everyone started considering him as irreplaceable.
Ed001 if you want to sell Meireles, who do you think can be better than him out of the midfielders we have been linked with??? Maccarthy, Adam, Handerson???

Miccmak {Ed001's Note - I don't think any of them are better as such, just better for the English league, all 3 of them are much more likely to get stuck in.}

06 Jun 2011 16:19:30
if that how he made 18 assists ?? your answer is simply ridiculous .

06 Jun 2011 16:08:17
I wonder if some people on this site are really "true" LFC fans as they claim. Throughout the season we were generally very satisfied with Meireles and now just because Jordan Henderson is "rumoured" to be coming in you want him out? YES he only scored 5 goals this season. YES he only had 5 assists. YES he is relatively lightweight. BUT give credit where it is due and never discount his other contributions to the team.

My other point about Meireles- He was pushed out wide by Roy because he wanted two upfront(Ngog and Torres) and yet wanted Gerrard, Lucas and Meireles in the team. When Kenny took over, remember, he was played in an advanced central role behind Suarez and in front of Gerrard and Lucas. When Gerrard got injured and when Carroll recovered from injury Spearing replaced Gerrard and Meireles was forced to the left.

Disappointed that some fans are so fickle. Weren't we singing Meireles' praises during our best spell? When he was played CENTRALLY?

One last point. If you say Meireles is lightweight, what about Spearing. I don't think Spearing is any stronger than Meireles. Besides, Spearing is actually shorter than Meireles.

I welcome opinions

Keith YNWA {Ed001's Note - the difference is Spearing is willing to throw himself into a tackle, no matter who it is he is up against, he relishes the battle and always has. Meireles on the other hand has a tendency to pull out if the player he is going in against is a big guy. That is what is meant by being lightweight, nothing to do with size at all. Oh and I did say it all season, I have always thought he is too lightweight and the more I watch the more it annoys me.}

06 Jun 2011 16:01:16
Liverpool are battling AC Milan for Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.

Liverpool have offered £10m for the 22-year-old, whose club rate him at £13m.
=========================================
Would rather keep Meireles. Gerrard, Spearing, Lucas, Henderson and Meireles more than enough.

06 Jun 2011 15:57:37
Any chance of an alonso return?

06 Jun 2011 15:56:38
Ed,

With widespread rumours of Henderson coming to Liverpool, I have a very strong feeling that Steven Gerrard may be made to play in the right wing next season..........

Where else can Dalglish accomodate Lucas, Meirelles, Spearing, Shelvey and Henderson??

If Henderson is done, then I think these may be the other purchases

Another young/backup striker (may be Wickham)
A left back (may be Enrique)
A left winger (may be Mata)

I would think good sensible signings......

Because without getting mad like all the other circus rumours this is what may happen I am afraid.......

1.im sure for alot of this season henderson played as a winger for sunderland
2. i think if we buy him we wont be doing a arsenal and playing him week in week out like they do with arsenal do with j w
3. spearing shelvey and mireles wont be playing 1st team as uch as this season
4. i can asure you liverpool will be buying atleast 1 winger

06 Jun 2011 15:52:49
Eds great work on a great site, but I think most of us fans are in a panic mode, we are fearful that we will lose out on quality signings to other premier teams particularly Manutd eg Ashley Young, Charlie Adam, Henderson etc but I have faith in Kenny. He said that those players who love to play for Liverpool with their hearts are those that deserve to play for us. So Kenny will sign those who believe in the Liverpool way and not just that they are high profile players. I dont want players like Contreao, who mock us as a small team. I would rather have our youngsters who wear the shirt with pride. Eds players should only be signed when they love to come and play and improve LFC and restore our legacy, not like Poulsen who just want money.

Hi there I was just looking at skybet and wondering how we became favourites to sign Joey Barton? Personally I think he is no way near good enough for Liverpool Football Club. Any opinions? {Ed001's Note - his agent keeps telling everyone we want him, that's how we became favourites.}

06 Jun 2011 15:14:34
In responds to this
To clarify some users writing BS about Mata, there hasn't been a bid for Juan Manuel Mata (as of yet). Why would Damien Comolli and Liverpool FC bid £12m for Mata when Man City had a £17m rejected. Please at least make us think you are telling the truth when lying.

Comolli is a tit when it comes to negotiating! He tried that stupidness wit suarze, and at spurs when he tired to take over the club and then paid over the odds for players! He has a good eye for players tho!
On a dif note I think we're pretty close to our first signing, just hope its mata

06 Jun 2011 15:07:29
With all the wingers being linked with us it make me wonder what formation will we be playing next season. The 5-3-2 was working well when we played it but due to injuries had to be scrapped. I imagine there will be two upfront but i cant see how Carroll, Suarez, Gerrard and two wingers would work, surely the midfield would be overrun.

Also reading reading on Sky Sports it looks like we have dodged the Ashley Young bullet as it seems he will choose Man U. I would rather give Glen Johnson a run out on the right with Kelly behind him at rb.

always a red

I cant believe that we are considering letting go of Meireles. His absence cost us against Spurs and he chipped in with quite a few goals.He gets forward to support very quickly and he is a very experienced pro and will only get better after what has been his first season with us.

He is not a winger and if we need a winger there is only one man, TURAN. He is skilful, creative and by having the captaincy he has shown that he can handle responsibility. They will love him at anfield cos he is a Poll supporter. He is better than Young, Perotti and a lot of the other wingers we have been linked with. Go on Kenny , go get him.

06 Jun 2011 14:53:14
Surprised to read people doubting Meireles. I think he's been a very good addition to our squad, and considering it was his first year in the league should be cut a little slack over his ability to deal with the hard stuff. Pretty much every foreign player takes a while to come to terms with it.

(As for taking away his goals whilst evaluating his contribution, that seems a bit of a weird way to look at things, especially considering they include winners against Everton and Chelsea, if my memory serves me correct. Either a player is one with the ability to score important goals - which is rare - or he isn't. Meireles is a big time player.)

06 Jun 2011 14:51:00
Mereiles certainly has quality and he has shown it under dalglish, but I agree that he is too lightweight and so he has been pushed out wide to fit in the stronger mids. And since we are looking for proper wingers and mids then mereiles will be pushed down the pecking order. And he will probably be sold. But that's not a bad thing if he is replaced by a consistent quality player. Dalglish knows exactly what he's doing and I believe he will work his magic with whatever team we have next season. In Kenny we trust!

06 Jun 2011 14:45:58
Just thought i would say sky page for LFC are down wondering if there some big news just a thought. Lets hope so. I think with young looking like he going to utd henderson is ours and will play centre and right mid switching with gerrard. Merelies to go.

I posted about this a week or so ago. I have spoken to various people who all tell me the same thing. He has been shifted out wide to make way for younger, better players, which he is unhappy about. With Liverpool looking to sign three wingers, one being Marveaux, where does that leave Meireles? His contract is currently under review, as part of the original deal to bring him to the club, and it seems very unlikely that Dalglish and Comolli will offer him a new one. He is too lightweight for this league, often gets caught in posession and backs out of challenges. For me, if you take away his five strikes he has done nothing this season. Meireles seems to think of himself as a big name player and for some reason has a lot of hype about him, and so fancies his chances of finding a new club willing to pay the large fee for him. Many people have voiced their concerns over Liverpool being over-staffed in the central-midfield position with the deal Liverpool are trying to strike with Sunderland over Henderson, but with Poulsen and Aquilani almost certain to leave the club, the management team are looking to have five centre-mids for next season. With Spearing and Lucas signing new deals, Gerrard staying at the club and Shelvey in the manager's plans for the future, there is a high possibility of Meireles being sold and being replaced with a young British player, whether it is Henderson, McCarthy or someone who has not yet been mentioned. On a different note, both Dalglish and Comolli want to bring in Connor Wickham, and Dalglish prefers either Phil Jones or Scot Dann in defence as he wants a few young British players to come this summer. The concern over Dann is his fitness, and Phil Jones, despite the higher price tag, looks to be the favourite out of the two. He is already solid physically and is an excellent tackler, but has issues over his positional play. Marveaux will probably join and the club is trying to settle on a fee for Mata with Perotti or Downing possibly being the final winger. I have no clue what is happening over the left-back position. I don't know whether Liverpool are still negotiating with Newcastle over Enrique or whether they have moved onto other targets like Vargas or Izzaguire. Surprisingly, Dalglish is not considering selling or releasing Aurelio, despite his fitness issues and the emergence of Jack Robinson.-----------------------------------great post and a guy who seems to know whats he talkin about.totally agree with you on merieles, again another foreign player who too lightweight in this league.i would be happy with most of the signings you have mentioned.i relly who we sign MATA though!hes hopefully the marque signing, fingers crossed. ed what are your thoughts on mata and henderson?what will they add to the team? please reply {Ed001's Note - I would love Mata, he is a quality player, his crossing is excellent. Not so sure about Henderson, he is very inconsistent, but then he is young and that can be worked on.}

I really hope we don't sign Charlie Adam or that will be a big waste of money IMO.Henderson would be a much better signing even if he will cost around 18million

With Liverpool looking to sign three wingers, one being Marveaux, where does that leave Meireles? His contract is currently under review, as part of the original deal to bring him to the club, and it seems very unlikely that Dalglish and Comolli will offer him a new one. He is too lightweight for this league, often gets caught in posession and backs out of challenges. For me, if you take away his five strikes he has done nothing this season. Meireles seems to think of himself as a big name player and for some reason has a lot of hype about him, and so fancies his chances of finding a new club willing to pay the large fee for him. Many people have voiced their concerns over Liverpool being over-staffed in the central-midfield position with the deal Liverpool are trying to strike with Sunderland over Henderson, but with Poulsen and Aquilani almost certain to leave the club, the management team are looking to have five centre-mids for next season. With Spearing and Lucas signing new deals, Gerrard staying at the club and Shelvey in the manager's plans for the future, there is a high possibility of Meireles being sold and being replaced with a young British player, whether it is Henderson, McCarthy or someone who has not yet been mentioned. On a different note, both Dalglish and Comolli want to bring in Connor Wickham, and Dalglish prefers either Phil Jones or Scot Dann in defence as he wants a few young British players to come this summer. The concern over Dann is his fitness, and Phil Jones, despite the higher price tag, looks to be the favourite out of the two. He is already solid physically and is an excellent tackler, but has issues over his positional play. Marveaux will probably join and the club is trying to settle on a fee for Mata with Perotti or Downing possibly being the final winger. I have no clue what is happening over the left-back position. I don't know whether Liverpool are still negotiating with Newcastle over Enrique or whether they have moved onto other targets like Vargas or Izzaguire. Surprisingly, Dalglish is not considering selling or releasing Aurelio, despite his fitness issues and the emergence of Jack Robinson.

To.Ba

what a load of rubbish, raul was an integral part of the team last year, he was played in other positions because he is more versitile then lucas and spearing, he will continue to be a major player for the club, so stop making crap up

And to be fair to Comolli, he did do exactly the same with Suarez but for a good reason. Ajax wanted close to £30m for Suarez and Comolli offered a much lower price, saying that that amount is what Liverpool valued him. Obviously Liverpool rated him much higher than their original transfer fee, but because the both clubs' valuation seemed so far apart, they compromised and met the valuation halfway, being the £23m we paid for him. Comolli is a very clever negotiator and I still dont think we will sign Mata anyway but if we did, the fee would probably be around £20m plus. Remember City apparently had a bid of 20m Euros turned down so Valencia aren't budging from their valuation much either.
actually Ajax got around the sum they wanted and as for being a good negotiator he paid 35 mil for carroll and screwed the deal for charlie adam {Ed001's Note - DC screwed nothing on Adam. It was Adam's agent, Kenny Moyes, who upset Karl Oyston by revealing private details regarding the deal Blackpool made with Rangers when they signed him. That led to Oyston refusing point blank to deal with us and Villa, who Moyes had also spilled the beans to. DC had no part in the breakdown of that particular deal.}

Professional Football is much more complicated than Video Games. I'm getting sick of these so called fans full of negatives about Kenny, players and Liverpool. It's ridiulous!

Does anyone know how much Baraconlea spend on their youth system. Seems to be that they have set the standard at which football should be played at.

Also Ajax Acedemy has been producing quality players for years. So if can be done. Totally possible to creature players of that standard.

Why has no one in England managed it apart from Manchester Utd. (Beckham, Giggs, Scholes) Why can't english clubs produce technically gifted players instead of strong players. What needs to change in england for better english players to come through?

I know every single kid in school wants to be a footballer because of the life-style + money + women. Then that hope of crushed out of them and they have to get real jobs.

Most of our footballers come from deprived inner cities. Where the school system fails many. Then again Joe Cole is prob the last english footballer who has been technically very gifted from a young age.

Hey eds, would like to thank you all on behalf of all liverpool fans for this great site and your honesty towards transfer news, I just want to ask, in your opinion will there be movement in june? Bcz I seen on the north east late kick on show on the bbc earlier this season an interview with an ex football agent and he said that most clubs don't look to buy players before july bcz they would have to pay them between june and july whereas if they wait til july they obv won't have to, do you think this was refrence to smaller and less wealthy clubs? {Ed001's Note - mostly it is, but it does apply, most clubs prefer to do their business so players join for pre-season training, but not so they have to pay them for their holidays.}

RE: probably take Bojan myself,

LOL, why dont liverpool go down to spain and tap up some of the 16 years olds Bara have. The way Wenger has been doing hoping to get another Fabregas from Barcelonaon on the cheap.

Its illegal to sign under 16's to professional contracts in spain. Employment laws that Arsenal used to get Fabregas

But im guessing the thought of First Team football at the age of 16-17 + Professional Wages. Must of looked like a good deal to Fabregas. A player who might of Endded upl like Bojan at Bara. Setting hopping and waiting.

Neymar is not joining Liverpool, he was joking!}

henderson IS worth the money, because thats what supposedly KK is willing to pay for him! same with carroll.
really guys, don't understand this site sometimes.....you moan at the Ed's, you moan at KK, yet people hang off Macca's every word....remind me again, was it benzema, adam and young dead certs??? not really materialised have they!
trust KK, DC and FSG....they know whats going on, whats real, and whats best for our club.

RE: Henderson is NEVER worth 18 million his average why would Commoli sannction a such a signing

It's a smoke screen. Defenders, D/M are easy to find. Nothing special. Thats why English players seem to be mostly D/M or CBKs. We have Strikers. So i Think we really going to find another Creative Midfield player this summer.

When Meireles got injured our season came to an end. We will need to find someone creative, good first touch that lines to play one touch football with attacking mind set. I wonder if Zola still plays

Got a good feeling about Henderson and Mata. Same feelings about Suarez before his transfer, i.e. - it's on, it's off. I think we will get them.

Danny Wilson is set to return to Rangers just a year after quitting Ibrox in a £5million switch to Liverpool.

Reds manager Kenny Dalglish is an admirer of Wilson but wants the 19-year-old defender to head back north for some first-team experience.
Wilson has started one Premier League game since arriving at Anfield last July and has played a handful of Europa League matches.

The Scotland international has been offered back to the SPL champions on a season-long loan.

=========================

I doubt it as that'd mean he won't have the 3 years training in this country before he's 21 so wouldn't count as homegrown. Yeah it makes sense for him to go on loan but only to an English or Welsh team.

Sinama Pongolle 2003 2006 Liverpool Apps 38 (Gls) (4)born 20 October 1984 (26)

Ex-liverpool player. Ed what went wrong with him + Houllier Youth policy at liverpool. I know Gerard Houllier had access to all the french national scouting reports and used that information to buy young youngers potential to be stars. Houllier himself said technical gifted young players where not up to the phyical nature of english football so would get very few starts.

Much of Houllier's youth policy was based on bringing in what he regarded as the best that France had to offer. Since he was head of technical development

He spent 3 seasons at liverpool 1998 (joint with Roy Evans)1998 2004 and not one player made it.

In 2001, Sinama Pongolle, along with his cousin Anthony Le Tallec signed by liverpool. Sinama Pongolle appeared sporadically for reds then loaned out and sold on.

2006 → Blackburn Rovers (loan) 10 (1)
2006 2008 Recreativo 68 (22)
2008 2009 Atl tico Madrid 40 (5)
2010 Sporting CP 5 (1)
2010 2011 → Zaragoza (loan) 22 (4)

Why has the youth policy been so poor for the last 20 years. {Ed001's Note - poor coaching, it was that simple. Very few players improved in ability during Ged's time in charge, most went backwards due to the terrible coaching they were subjected to. One of the first things Rafa realised was how poor the level of coaches were at the club.}

Does this cole to spurs rumour have any truth behind it Edds??? {Ed002's Note - Possibly, but don't expect much financial profit from any transfer.}

Freeing up his 5 mil a year salary is plenty profit for me!

06 Jun 2011 13:39:14
Liverpool and Arsenal linked with Bojan so i've read for 17mil.Do you not think its a bit much for somebody of obvious talent but with only 40 odd starts to his name in 4 years.I'd go for Affelay and Jeffren, prob cost less for the pair of them as well.Understand if you dont answer eds i'm sure somebody will offer an opinion, but who would you take, the Bojan or the Affaly and Jeffren? Jonny Boy6 {Ed001's Note - Bojan is still a youngster to be fair and he is/was competing with Messi, Pedro, Villa, Ibrahimovic and Eto'o, amongst others, for a place. I would probably take Bojan myself, as I have not seen enough of Jeffren and Affelay is extremely unlikely to leave after just 6 months.}

This is taking straight from the Bayern Munich website Unfortunately, our talks with Miroslav Klose have not produced a positive result. We d have been happy for him to extend his stay, but when it came to the length of a new contract, we were unable to agree on a mutually acceptable period, commented Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Here you have the possibility to thank Miro for his great commitment to the FCB team and wish him all the best and good luck for his future! I just want to ask the "eds" I know he is getting old but wouldn't he be a good player to have around the training ground and also a good back up striker? {Ed001's Note - maybe, not sure we need an older striker as back up when we have Kuyt for that. Personally I think we need someone younger.}

Henderson is NEVER worth 18 million his average why would Commoli sannction a such a signing. We need to sign better players then that he is a mid table player at best who was in a side who went 18 games without a win and Alan Hansen always said you never win nothing with kids Wickham, Henderson, Jones are NOT going to make us a top 4 team clubs are going to be laughing at us paying over the top for players who have proved nothing

Here's a question:

Which players coming in are BIG ENOUGH draw cards to keep PEPE and GERRARD excited about the next season - sure these quality English youngsters are not the one putting a smile on PEPE's face.

Is MATA one of them or the likes? I honestly believe we are all in for 3 SIGNIFICANT players joining LFC.

Who is big enough to keep PEPE interested?

Big A (from South Africa)

18 million for henderson what a joke liverpool reallyare we are lookn good for a mid table finish what a waste of money we need quality not crap players from sunderland

i dont think alonso will be back as he would have no resale value and that would go against fsg policy

06 Jun 2011 12:48:30
I hope Henderson does come , he looks to have a lot of potential.
And its nice to get English players.
The amount for him seems a lot , but maybe the FSG are willing to spend more money than everyone thinks.
On the other hand young up and coming players are on a lot less than established players , so you can save millions there.

With SkyBet we are favourites to sign Mata , Downing , Adam and Jones !!!

06 Jun 2011 12:33:02
funny thing is we actually do not need another striker, im positive kenny will be happy with, carroll, suarez and kuyt.Mabee a back up striker, as ngog just is not good enough..i can see him bringing in one of the young lads next year as cover-we need width in our team so im sure thats where the focus will be, and a complete overhaul of the centre of defence, carra's getting on, agger is injured all the time time, soto's off.
thats why personally i think we will just sign jones/dann - marveaux plus young/downing/mata..plus a couple of other shrewd buys like Henderson just for competition..
Lastly Kenny knows what he is doing, its been six years since ive felt so in love with this club as i do now, we all wanted the king in the job-it's his now we should all be happy and looking forward to next season because if it pans out the same as it had since january to may, we will rip apart anyone that gets in our way with the additions the king will make.

Any Liverpool fans reading this that are not convinced with the names being linked to the club, I would urge you to read Tony Barret's article on the official LFC website titled: In Kenny We Must Trust.

For those who cant be bothered reading it, here is a tiny bit of it.....

Im sure that once you read the article fully, you will realise it does not matter what the names of the players are, but if our scouting team believe they can make a big difference to or team then thats good enough for me!!

Kenny has done this before, as stated by Tony Barret. Signed 3-5 new players that no one had heard of or rated but moulded them into one of the greatest Liverpool sides in our illustrious history. The man is a magician, he knows what we need and he will deliver.

I for one look forward to seeing how the new season will pan out, regardless of who we sign.

But I can gaurentee you all that there will be no one other then Kenny, Clarke and Comoli making sure we take huge strides in our push for champs league football atleast, and who knows, maybe, just maybe, we could have a big shout at winning our very own number 19!

Will Danny Wilson not need to stay in England if he is to be loaned out inorder to remain home grown. We signed him at 18 yrs old so surely he will have to remain in england until 21?? {Ed001's Note - no, he just has to be registered to us.}

Cant the eds, or anyone, clear up this issue for me? I was under the impression that Henderson was being targeted as a wide midfielder, as he has played the bulk of his Sunderland games there. Yes he's played in the centre but again I was under the presumption that that was down to Sunderland's horrific injury list. Yet a lot of people are on here complaining about the squad's congestion in the central midfield position. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but which position is Henderson being targeted for primarily? Or is it a case of signing him partly due to his versatility?
Thanks, Rush {Ed001's Note - he is primarily a centre midfielder who was moved out wide to cover injuries mate. But I believe he is being targeted to cover both positions, so Kuyt no longer needs to pound up and down the right.}

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has spoken of his desire to return to Liverpool and about how he misses playing in front of the iconic Kop.
The 29-year-old spent five years with the Reds before departing to Madrid for £30million in 2009 after winning the Champions League and FA Cup.
The move transpired after Rafael Benitez had guided Liverpool to their best ever finish in Premier League of second but he had attempted to sign Gareth Barry from Aston Villa.
The public pursuit of the England man left Alonso feeling isolated and disillusioned with the club but now admits it was a wrench to leave Anfield.
"It was difficult because Liverpool has been and always will be very special, " said Alonso. "It is in my heart because I have lived very intense things there.
"It was really difficult to tell the fans what my decision was, but sometimes you have to follow your feelings and that was my feeling at that moment.
"The fans always made it very clear what they wanted and the support I had from the first day I arrived to the last day was absolutely top and I can't have any complaints about that. But it was my decision and my feeling."
"It was quite a long summer with so many meetings, so many talks and so many rumours.
"I would have preferred to say goodbye properly, like so many other teammates had already done, but because of the circumstances it didn't happen."
"I miss lots of things. I miss the lads, I miss the atmosphere at Melwood it was a great place to work, and the scenario of Anfield is unbeatable.
"The special nights I have been privileged enough to live, those will be in my memory forever and they are difficult to compare anywhere in the world.
"Since I arrived I have known so many big, big legends as Kenny, Hansen, Souness, Fowler, Stevie, Carra these will be forever.
"Sami Hyypia as well, for me he was a big example and someone I learned a lot from. I don't think I belong there but if I am a step below them I am happy to be there."

This really brought a tear to my eye :'( . He is right up there with them top names and hopefully he comes back ! Could cost around 20m but WELL worth it . Anybody's thoughts ? Ed(s) ? {Ed001's Note - I love Xabi, he was by far and away our best player in his final season with us. I would love him back, but it's not going to happen this summer.}

If we get Young, Downing, Adam, Enrique that will be great success.
People stop dreaming about Aguero, Mata and other hyper expensive players. KK will give chance to young Liverpool players. Aquilani is back. We could win the Premiership title.

I'm A Little Sad To See That These Henderson Rumours May Be True...
No Disrepect To Him Because He Has A Big Future Ahead Of Him And If It Is At Anfield Then Good Luck To Him & I Hope He Changes My Mind. But He Hasn't Shown Anything That Makes Him A £15M-£18M Player And Now Aquilani Is Definetely Gone If He Signs And I Think He Should Give LFC Another Chance As Should KK Give To Him.

Losing faith in KK?
Get a grip will you!
The man has been in the job for a mrere six months and already there are doubters? I think not! What we have are a few new fans, young fans with no history, disgruntled fans who have the jitters and clowns who post nonsense to wind up others.
KK and Damien Comoli will craft the transfers and I have great faith in them.
Ignore the critics and those with an axe to grind. We may not who WE want as fans, but we may also get what THEY think as management and we hope that works. I will say nothing against KK until a full season has passed. If he works wonders - great. If he flops - we can comment then. I expect to see us a stronger, younger and fitter team than the past three seasons!

Why does everyone feel the need to get carried away does nobody trust kenny anymore? So many people panicing about mata, bojan, aguero and any other random name they can think of, but we cannot sign from abroad untill 1st july so wants the big panic? Kenny knows who he wants and needs and i for one trust his judgment just like all of liverpool seemed to wen he arrived, obviously i was wrong and many liverpool fans believe they could do a better job as the kop boss? He will do everything he can to bring in the best quality players from across the globe that are available but its so early, onli a child wud get so worked up so early

To "Mac" who asked this:

Surely if we can pay 15 mil plus for henderson we can fork out 22 mil plus for mata?

If we bought henderson would he be used on the right where he was played before or through the centre?

I just thought i'd say what i reckon we'll do with him.
I probably unlike most other fans, still don't think we will sign/need out and out wingers. I think we will look for attacking midfielders who can go out wide and come in. Hence why I think we will be going for Henderson and Mata. Unlike most believe, Mata isn't a winger. He plays on the left and drifts where he wants (sort of like when messi used to start on the right and drift in) However Mata can cross the ball and play important through balls and is a really good finisher so I can see that with Carroll's lack of pace a lot of through balls will be played through to Mata and/from Suarez.

Personally if we sign both, which i genuinely believe is possible, we will line up like this:

Reina
Back 4
Henderson Lucas Gerrard
Suarez Carroll Mata

And we've seen that when we're without the ball, we drop back into banks of 4 and I think it will be like this:

Reina
Back 4
Henderson Lucas Gerrard Mata
Suarez
Carroll

So in answer to your question, I think Henderson will start just right of the central midfield, but not as a winger. He will move out to the right often and whip balls in since he has a really good cross.

But I dont see us playing 4-4-2 with 2 traditional wingers. It would mean out possession/pass&move football would have to be abandoned

PS I may be completely wrong!!! Just my opinion

Forget Alonso being 29 .. Reading about what Alonso had to say about Liverpool yesterday he still loves the club .. i know henry wants young players but he also said he wants to win things and Alonso could win us games with delivery to Suarezand im sure if the oppertunity came Alonso would come back .. Worth a try

Hi Ed please post this..
Why not we buy players that other club things are surplus .. and still can be sqaud players
Spurs :- bassong , Bently, Crouch, Kranchar
City :- Wrigth Philips, Given
Chelsea :- Kalou

They will come cheap as backups and allow too spend big on first team

------------------------------------
Why would they swap a bench at Spurs, City and Chelsea for a bench at Liverpool? Makes no sense and will just make our wage bill higher than it should.

06 Jun 2011 10:20:59
The interest in Bojan and Jeffren (I discount this one) is sure to see the end of David Ngog at LFC. My guess is that Bojan may sign on a 12 month loan deal and Ngog will move to either Fulham or Aston Villa. Wickham's presence will not help the situation for Ngog and like Wilson, he must move on.
I would also like to see Agger sold if he doesn't prove his fitness pre-season. there is only a certain amount of time you can give players who appear injury prone. Joe Cole needs to be pushed out (as he seems reluctant to move on!) and with him we should look at offloading Maxi.
Just an aside about talkSPORT: Ian Danter (the Brummie one) bangs on about how LFC need to make up the 18 points or so they "were behind Chelsea and MUFC this year." Is the PL a handicap then? Nobody told me. I didn't realise we start 2011/12 with an 18 point or so penalty. Someone should tell him everyone starts off equal in August! This is the sort of Motson appraoch to punditry: "they have alwasy lost at XXXX" or "they have never beaten XXXX in 28 years!"
Are ALL the circumstances, the conditoons, the weather, the pitch and players always the same as when that happened? These people talk s**t most of the time and we lap it up. Not me mate! It doesn't take £5,000 a week and 188 games for seven teams for me to know when a player is offside, feigning injury or needs to push up!!!

I personally think we will be busy this Summer and sign the following players in this window -

Enrique
Henderson
Mata
Downing
Adam (not Adams, just Adam)
Connor Wickham
Scott Dann

These players will give the squad great depth which we desperately need. We will get rid of players with high wage bills eg Jovanovic and Cole and other bits of floating deadwood such as Poulsen and Ngog.

I don't post on here very often, I have connections within the club in a financial capacity and although these are not concrete, I believe these signings are probable and Im not often wrong. Thanks eds for your hard work.

I can't believe this Bendtner crap is surfacing again, i would honestly rather a front pairing of Voronin and Ngog with Gonzalez and El Zhar providing service, than to have just Bendtner in our current squad.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Spot on, anybody talking Bendtner up as being Liverpool FC quality needs to go and wash the sh1t balls out of their eyes, he will never be good enough for a Premier league team with title winning aspirations.

We will have a problem with Lucas next season. If we sign any of the CM's we are talking about then he mas struggle to hold down a position. I accept he has improved dramatically this season but I'm convinced he has to play week in week out to maintain this level. For the right money I'd be prepared to let him leave and sign McCarthy or Henderson & Adam in place of him. These players would give us a lot more options going forward.

Reliable source told me Liverpool have had a bid for Mata rejected....around about 12million....Valencia are looking for 25million....seems like DC is back to his old tricks that he tried with Suarez

you mean the type of tricks that try and save liverpool money. Give him a break

"I hope that you won't throw your toys out of the pram (like a certain Steve Parker), and sir, I say that with the utmost of respect"

Only a matter of time till Steve Parker was mentioned on here! Guy has more mentions than anyone else and just to put the fact straight, he did NOT throw any toys out of any pram. BTW he is now on Twitter as radioFOOTBALL.

apparently n'zogbia is available for £9m to a champions league team, now although we're not actually in this seasons i wonder if we'd still be deemed a 'champions league' team by other clubs and players, if so then this would be a good signing at a fair price.

If were not in the champ league were not gonna be deemed as in it by anyone

Just because it's in the echo makes it believable does it?
The echo are owned by the trinity mirror who happens to own the daily mirror etc and they are full of it like the echo fact, if you want good and genuine info keep to this site, we all know that some kids who haven't started puberty type crap, but the real nuggets do get through a lot and the eds also have contacts so if something is convincing and the eds clarify it then this is the place to be

LiverBird
--------------------------------------------

Hope so....Gerrard is great on the right and it may be easier on his legs plus we have a good enough central midfield without using him there. Just hope we are getting more wingers too.

Just drove past mellwood and who did I see .... Messi Aguero and maxi all wearing Liverpool training kit. Joe cole and christian poo-ulson had rucksacs on I past them on the m6 south bound. Believe in it what you like I know what I saw!

06 Jun 2011 08:52:26
Would we sign so many wingers if we were to to play a formation with a front 3? This is why we will sign more centre midfielders. With gerrard and mireles both able to play in and around the striker.

Just something to think reds

Just wondering if you could give your opinions on these twitter rumours that we hav pretty much sown up:

Henderson
Downing
Enrique
Jones

Now they all seem viable to me and maybe that's why they are easy to plaster all over the place.

All these ITK (alleged) sources all point to the fact that we are trying to focus on the English based deals early so we can then concentrate on the abroad based players. Is there really ever that theory?

Anyway, thanks and love the site. (sorry to be one of many people asking about the same players) {Ed002's Note - It is simply people re-iterating what is in the press.}

I really don't understand why a lot of people on here think that henderson would be a good signing. The lad has had a decent season for somebody his age but he hasm't particulary impressed me when i have seen him play.

His valuation is ridicolous and he is not even worth a starting place in our current midfield, and would not improve it. So why would we want to sign him. I don't believe the paper talk about this. Money would be better spent in other areas and on better players,

Very exciting news that we have upped our offer to 18.5 for Henderson, he will be a great signing for now and the future. Hopefully it can be tied up before the U21's go away and one of many to sign a contract for the reds

Liverpool should really go for NZogbia..he is a class act..I know Liverpool is a massive club and yes we should be going for guys like Mata, Hazard and etc..However things are not as easy as they seem because all these players demand more and desire European football next season..They are our primary targets however as things stand Young, Downing, Adam Johnson and Nzogbia are realistic options..Ed who do you rate among this four as a more efficient overall winger?

"Why not? I think that in football so many things change, and why not? I have my red passion and if circumstances arrived then why not? At the moment I don't know what is going to happen, but it could be a possibility. Never say never." - Xabi Alonso on LFC.tv interview...

If FSG got him back it would be amazing, if they looked at videos of Alonso playing for Liverpool FC they might be tempted to bring him back, fans in Asia loved him and lets be honest we all did...
If Mourinho was willing to sell and Liverpool coughed up the money it could be on, he obviously loves the club and would come back in a heartbeat if the chance came about...
Yea we'll hear all the "I've jut seen Alonso come out of Melwood" rumours and 'Not FSG transfer policy' but until the transfer window shuts I'll be keeping a close eye, but what a player, he is one of a kind IMO. {Ed007's Note - He is a brilliant player, if you could get him back it would be a major boost to the whole club IMO}

Ch***ie A**m is My Favourite Footballer and i really want him to come to Anfield. Seeing him at United would kill :(. KK sign him now, he wants to come and he is worth it.

lots of british players linked to lfc. players such as dann, cahill, baines, henderson, young, adam, cattermole, downing, mccarthy, adam johnson, wickham and we've already got young british players on our books such as flanno, kelly, robinson, jonjo, spearing, ince, coady, ngoo, wisdom, sterling, morgan. along side our established players gerrard, carra, johnson, carroll, cole and konchesky, theres plenty to choose from to make up a decent british squad.once cole and konchesky are kicked out we'll have a very young british squad ready for an assault on the league in the next few years.i would prefer to sign dann, baines, downing and wickham to add to our british squad but also add abit of foreign flair with mata and affelay on the wings.from our youth squad sterling, coady, morgan should get more chances and intergrate kelly, flanno and robinson in more games.

06 Jun 2011 00:56:38
Henderson is such a United player. McCarthy is far better and much greater value for money, what has happened to our interest in him?

06 Jun 2011 00:55:53
Alonso: 'i look foward to next season'. Am i reading into this to much???

I was thinking the same thing, why would he say that while addressing the LFC fans ??? {Ed001's Note - maybe because he thinks the club will be challenging and it will be an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan, of which he is one.}

Latest rumours suggest:

------------------------Reina---------------------
Kelly----------Carragher------Jones-------Cissokho
--------------Gerrard---------Lucas--------------
Henderson------------Suarez--------------N'Zogbia
----------------------Carroll----------------------

Subs: Mihaylov, Skrtel, Flanagan, G.Johnson, Marveaux, Adam, Kuyt.

I think when Flano, Kelly and Jonno are all fit, Glen will be deployed in a more advanced role and compete for the right wing whilst also challenging Kelly for the right back slot, with Flano competing for either full back role. I can't see Meireles staying. Excluding one good run, he was pretty poor all year. Lucas and Kuyt were the two who stepped up to replace Gerrard and Torres. The two preoved a lot of doubters wrong!
Aquilani, Jovanovic, Cole, Maxi, Poulsen, Insua, Konchesky, Kyriakgos, Agger, N'Gog, Degen and Aurelio all look pretty set to leave. Either too high wages, or just not good enough.

I expect a few surprise signings on top of those mentioned in the original team though. No sources, just speculation Eds ;) What do you think? Realistic?

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed001's Note - I really can't see Johnson being dropped to the bench, he has played really well under Kenny.}

06 Jun 2011 00:45:08
I think all these rumours if players coming in are great but nobody is mentioning anything about a CB coming in, something we are definitely in need of with the age of Carra and the injury prone Agger. Any ideas???

All i want to know is why is a ex player of liverpool (alonso) giving a interview on lftv.What next that traitor michael owen.

Your a disgrace any true LFC fan would have Alonso back. Owen turned his back on the club when he went to united. It was Rafa what near enough forced Alonso out, he has shown nothing but respect to the club and fans since he left unlike Owen

06 Jun 2011 00:35:39
Looks like Modric may be joining United which can't be good news because Charlie Adam is wanted by Harry Redknapp.. Tottenham have more to offer and are central midfield is already looking strong so I can't see it happening if Modric goes to United.

06 Jun 2011 00:34:47
Can someone please explain to how it is possible Juan Mata can play for the U21s as he is 23? I uderstood why Carroll was eligible - he started the season at 21- but Mata was 22.

06 Jun 2011 00:31:02
Mate what are you smoking, why would Arsenal sell Nasri for 10million and why would he want to come to a non CL team, he will go to United/Man C or Real or Inter/AC somewhere like that.

Hes refusing to sign a new contract so around 10m would be about the right price. Man utd are the only 1 of them clubs which would probably be interested in Nasri but if they get Young Nasri may think he might not get first team football every week

Players I think are realistic and would not only help us be in Europe for definate the season after this buh challenge for the title..
LB- Izzaguire: 25 year old, voted Scottish player of the season. Fast, skillful, hard-working and has got a good final ball..OR
Enrique: His defensive qualities have been questioned but looks strong and has a good delivery..Played with Carroll and might be a good back-up if we fail to sign Izzaguire..
CB-Phil Jones: 19 year old, strong center back who's had a sparkling season for rovers. He looks solid and could be a long-term replacement for Carragher, he can also play his way straight into the first team and could be a major player along with Carra, Skrtel and Agger..
LM-Juan Mata: 23 year old, spanish wizard. Very skillful with his dribbling, passes and crosses superbly and also scores a few goals himself. Could be used as an LWF in a 4-3-3 formation.
LM-Marveaux: 25 year old, french winger who can play anywhere in the midfield preferably on the left. Dont know much about him but is labelled the next Malouda. Would be a good free transfer as hes at his peak unlike Jova and Cole.
CM-Jordan Henderson: Turning 21 soon. I see him forming a future partnership with Wilshere at the center of midfield for England and would be a good steal..He would be a great long term replacement for Gerrard but can also play in the first team now, will learn alot from Meireles and Gerrard.
RM-Ashley Young: Turning 26. He had a great season for Villa and was pivotal in the comeback against the Swiss on the weekend. Alot of people say hes not that great but hes quick with his feet, can strike the ball, takes shots, sometimes does dictate play and is great for a counter. He is also reaching an age where he'd be playing at his best. Hungry to win too! I see him going to Utd though..
Having said that I wouldnt mind any of Payet, Perrotti, Downing or other good players.
ST-Connor Wickham: 18 and certainly better than Ngog. He'd have great players to look upto and would be a good understudy while getting a few games under his belt.
I have a feeling Commolli will sign someone from the French Ligue because of his knowledge of talent there. Matuidi, Sissoko, Mvilla, Boudebouz all rated highly.
Cost:
Izzaguire= £8-10M
P.Jones= £14M
Juan Mata= £21M
Marveaux= £0
J.Henderson= £16M
Ashley Young= £16-18M or the others approx £14M
Connor Wickham= £10M
Total: £87M

Most these players will be worth much higher after thier first season because they will rise in value as we'l definately finish atleast top 4.

From selling some of the most expensive players already thought to be shown the door:-
Aquilani= £12M atleast
Krygiakos= £1.5M
Jovanovic= £4M
Poulsen= £2M
Cole= £3M
Ngog= £4.5M
Total= £27M

Investment- £60M
Thats quite reasonable considering the quality we'l be getting and the deadwood being shipped out, it would be considerably less if Young didnt come and it would still be a title winning team if they gel.
Remember Gerrard and Agger will hopefully come back as new signings and Carroll will be 100% fit and raring to go. Plus, we've got Suarez for a whole season..
EDs, I appreciate that this is a long post but what do you think overall the chances of signing the above mentioned players are, I believe we've put in bids for Henderson and Wickham and are contemplating moving for Jones too.
Id appreciate comments and general banter from fellow fans like who you might replace etc.
RedSox69 {Ed001's Note - it is a reasonable list of ins, might not be what we end up with, but we have shown interest in all of them to varying degrees. I have to say that only Mata and Jones would be my choices out of those players, I think there are better players for the other positions than those you have listed. But those players would improve the squad and I wouldn't be unhappy with that list of signings.}

liverpool should sign enrique , henderson , downing , wickham and may be a big sign

realistic signings i think ... would really strengthen liverpool

06 Jun 2011 00:18:36
everyone on here is saying Adam jhonson is what we need , well not really because he cuts in alot is this beneficial to Carroll , we need an old fasion wingers someone in yhe mould of valencia , someone who can hit thw touch line and wip in a good ball , I think gerrard could do a job and may give him a couple extra years , also could help Kelly / flanagam out with experience , and takes some pressure of him , also when raheem sterling comes through , wecould use gerrard in a giigs/ scholes type of role what's your opinion.ed chears

Sir hop {Ed001's Note - Johnson cuts in because Mancini plays him out of position on the right. Played in his proper position, on the left, he is an old fashioned winger who looks to get to the byline and whip in a cross.}

06 Jun 2011 00:17:18
JJ blackpool

Totally agree with you, I think Adam Carried Blackpool and helped them fight to stay up. He scored 13 goals as a midfield, and assisted in many with his set pieces. He's a great passer of the ball. He can score free kicks also. Imagine what this lad could do for Suarez, Carroll and Kuyt. I'd even swap him with Lucas as he is way more creative. Dalglish would be silly not to buy him. Would be a great addition.

Anyway onto the rumours, what do you think of Marko Marin, I know there was alot of rumours in the past of him , he's a quality winger. Would love him at Liverpool.

Hi ed and all looks like Henderson is nailed on with pool (daily mirror) upping their bid to 18.5 let's hope he's worth it, KK must be right, and ed has previously said he has lots of potential so I am happy, but instead of who ishe going to play? thanks
