Mateo Kovacic for a bargain £10million.

Inter are reluctant to part ways with Kovacic, despite admitting that they will be forced to sell him if he doesn't agree a new deal in the near future, and reports in Italy claim that the Nerazzurri will accept bids of just £10m for his services as they look to finance moves for Liverpool's Fabio Borini and Lucas Leiva

No countinho, No Lallana, No Markovic. Which means no creativity or Am i missing something?

Agree8 Disagree0

Just saw the lineup myself. let's be honest I think were set up not to concede. see out the first half and hope for the best!

Agree1 Disagree1

Looks like he's going to try keep it tight for 60 or 70 mins then attack if needed in last 20

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously looking not to concede and keep things tight, but there's more attacking threat and pace in our under 19's! Looking for a moment of brilliance from a certain some! !

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that it's Brendan, that is missing the point We need to win this game!
By packing the midfield with no pace?.

The players have given up playing for him.

Allen's not the type of player to set the world alight but he's probably been the tidiest of the lot to be fair and despite taking some hospital passes from the defence

The only thing Allen has going for him is that he isn't Gary Neville.

Felt sorry for Allen and Lucas last night.

I have to say I don't agree with EMS and his self imposed ban. I really don't think some of the sophomoric vitriol replies to his opinions merited the stance that EMS is taking but everyone has their own process. It looks as if EMS is having a hard time o it lately and we wish you well on your journey but think of it this way EMS and I know your reading this life could be a lot worse. I bet there's starving African's, Syrians who'd love to have your problems. So EMS wherever you are come back mate, for me you were the heartbeat of this glorious website! Talking about people staying away, Macca were the hell are you? We need some Macca insight. Give us all an early Xmas present please mate? Come on tonight redmen 'lets write ourselves into folklore. lol'

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Lol, you could just stay at home then under the duvet cover! Only pulling your leg AP. If BR has the team setup and playing like they did last weekend, then it's going to be a long night. He may have seen the 'light' in the last few days, I hope so anyway (surely he must), and set the stall up with the high pressing game similar to last season. Anyway, i'm going to meditate now and pray for good things.

In about an hour I'll be leaving my house to go to tonight's game. I don't have any expectations of enjoying it and I don't think we'll get the fluke win we need to wing it through to the next stage of a competition we have zero chance of winning.
I say "fluke" because it will have to be. Do I sound pessimistic?.a right misery?. of course I do. Do I like what I'm thinking right now? No, of course not!
I'm predicting a nil-nil or a defeat and I'm also predicting that BR will remain true to form. slow attacks, crap at set-pieces, awful defending, terrible tactics/subs, Johnson, Skrtel and Mignolet (3 of our worst players) being favoured over better options and 90 minutes of turgid rubbish which will suck the joy out of the occasion.
European nights used to be special. Under our current manager they are not!
I make this promise to everyone reading this depressing prediction. I will get home at about 11pm and I will either apologise or, more likely, begin my "get rid of Rogers and his A-team now" rant. See you later!

A question for Eds 001 and 002 (I would welcome both your views),

I have seen you say on a few occasions recently something along the lines that FSG are having a good look at how the club is run and are taking advice on things such as the way the transfer committee works and even possible replacements for BR.

Do you know who they are getting such advice from?

In my opinion they seem to have been poorly advised on a number of issues in the past which has no doubt resulted in some of the mistakes they have made since they bought the club.

Do you think we lack a real understanding of football and running a football club on the board? There was rumour some time back about getting somebody like Dein into the club - is that a possibility and do you think it is needed?

I should add that I am not moaning about FSG here, I actually think they are trying their best to get things right for the club.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to get in to naming anyone they have discussed this issue with.}

Another way to ask perhaps- do you feel whoever the advisors are they are the right people to be advising? For me, FSG's managerial/administrative signings have been about on the same level as BR/the committees.

Cheers Ed's

My gut feeling for tonight's game is Liverpool win 2-1 and a scrappy win to be honest.
One thing I am more excited about is the support of Liverpool fans at stadium and around the world.
Hope the support from crowd helps Liverpool past this match.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Let's hope the players don't read the comments section on the official website for a confidence boost. However, I hope Anfield is rocking tonight because the fans really can make a difference on a night like this, as we know.

If players can't get them selves up for tonight and put in a rubbish they ought to look elsewhere to play!

I have to say i don't give us a chance tonight. We are mentally weak at the moment. Basle will know they can score against our defence. I will be watching of course but expecting nothing.

Hi Eds, first time on here, but great site, keeps my sanity knowing many other feel the same way i do.

Brendan Rogers absolutley bores the a*se of me in his pre / post match interviews, its the same old scripted whaffle all the time, yes the players are lucky to play for such a big club blah blah blah - boring! he is so stubbon and arrogant. great stuff if you suffer insomnia!

Last year was great to watch, this year is back to the times of old when i will watch games because i'm a fan, but know i will be bored to death not long after kick off.

Sterling is undoubably a great player who has a fantastic future ahead of him. I just fear that the likes of llana / coutinho must wonder what they have to do to get 90 mins - sterling seems to NEVER be subbed. this must make them question what they have to do?

we try to score the perfect goal most of the time, why not just lash it from 30 yars every so often. the striker follows the shot up and if the keeps tumbles. bang, goal. easy. (obviosuly not as easy as that i know, and we can't rely n GK making mistakes).

few quick points. Johnson, should be let got, can't wait for flanno to come back (someon with a bit of heart). Lucas has been tret like $hit, sho he will probably won't out (unfortunately as he makes a big difference when he plays). give Borini a proper chance for gods sake! louvren is garbage. markovic looks no better. Can has potential. Coutinho's game is been ruined by having to do defensive dog work.

Anyway, finger crossed for tonight - i think we'll do it, 3-1 win! c'monnnnnn!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

If you would like some more fuel for the fire (it drive me crazy) just listen to how many times Rodgers says "as I said" during interviews. It's bizarre as its a lie anyway as he only seems to say it after he has stated something for the first time!
"As I said" watch starts now.

Hi Edds,

If we could go back to the summer which player would you buy that we didn't who was relasitic as a target not messi ronaldo etc.

I was reading one article which said we thought like a small team and didn't try and buy anyone else's big player instead we settled for average players. I agree actually.

Ta

Believable9 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - there are two I would have gone for. One is Medel or Xabi Alonso. The other would have been a striker like Lacazette. Actually I would have gone for a keeper too thinking about it. For me we only needed those 3 positions filled plus a left back, which we did sign in Moreno, rather than all the players we did buy. No need to reduce spending, just buy less players of higher quality.}

09 Dec 2014 13:23:54
Tbh could have spent less than half the money and ended up with an all around better squad! Maybe off on values and dunno if we could have got them but whenyou look at: b
B
Bought: alonso (£8m), remy (£8m), konoplyanka or Lacazette (£12-18m), foster (£10m), Bertrand (loan or buy for dunno £8m) for what about £45-60m.

Fair enough think moreno and can are good buys, but don't see the point or buying two CBs for £36m if you aren't going to drop skrtel and then have another £7m wasting away in Portugal as well.

Shame after last season was optimistic about rodgers but has spent a lot of money of 3 years and have an unbalanced squad lacking quality

Agree0 Disagree1

09 Dec 2014 11:14:08
Bumbling Rodgers will continue to drag us down. The sad thing is that not only he has wasted money on dross but also got rid of players who would have given us some much needed experience. Caroll, Downing, Reina, Agger and now he is alienating Suso. He did this to suck up to the owners. I think the club needed a coach not a bean counter who can't add up his losses.

Believable5 Unbelievable9

09 Dec 2014 18:46:30

I'm an old romantic. I'm sitting here almost teary eyed watchin Gerrard smash his goal in against Olympiakos. I'm going to stop mourning his decline and instead celebrate what he's given us.
Before the game tonight I'm going to watch a compilation of his screamers from over the years and hope that the magic of Anfield, the power of the Kop and his sheer will power and determination may provide us with yet another memory to tell the Grandchildren about.

Eds quick question,
With regards to the search function. Is there a time limit as to how long stuff is kept? Are there any ways you can narrow it down like with google EG using a colon to search for a specific word etc.
I have looked in the search engine for posts before, where I know a specific phrase was used, but nothing comes up

So with all the talk of Balotelli leaving how much do we really think we will recoup on the guy. Hard to see anyone wanting to pay more than a couple of million for him.

Here's a thought, are there any billionaire fans among us who would like to take Balotelli off our hands for 30 to 50 million and maybe use the guy at home for interior design, car testing, or maybe you need a pouting 16 year old princess, cone on he's a bargain at that price

I think we'd be very lucky to get 12M

Think we're looking at between 8-10M to be honest.

Agree7 Disagree0

I think when we were in for him, I said we'd probably sell him within a year, and only recoup half the money, if we get above 8million, I'll be surprised. I think 2 Italian sides have shown interest from what an ED said.

Agree0 Disagree2

Dont forget he has a 'super agent' which would further increase the cost of buying Balotelli.

I wouldn't put much of a hope in us selling him in January window.

09 Dec 2014 09:29:19
Do you think it is a bit much to play Lambert in every game? I mean, If he starts tonight that's 4 games he's started in just over a week.

If we do manage to scrape through tonight we desperately need to invest in some fire power in January.

Red Rum

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I agree but Borini isn't much of a lone striker is he. He wanders around too much, maybe if he plays with a midfield that will actually look for him then yes. I'd also say Sterling should start from the bench otherwise we have no pace or real attacking threat to come from the bench. the 11 i'd play doesn't look that bad, I see teamwork, high tempo, energy and desire to play positive football in this 11.

Mignolet
Johnson, Toure, Sakho, Enrique
Lucas, Allen
Markovic, Gerrard, Lallana
Borini

good choices on the bench - Jones Skrtel Moreno Henderson Can Sterling Lambert

Hi Eds,

Travelling for next full day so trying to get my fill of the site this morning, will also miss the match so hoping to get some Wi Fi access somewhere to see how we are doing.

Anyway enough of the blabbering and to my question
Adam Lallana seems to be splitting opinions on this site with some (me being on) who think he was a great buy and given a better run (and not subbed when playing well) will be a fantastic scoring midfielder for us.
But others who think he was a complete waste of money and think that every academy player would have been better than him.

Where do the Eds stand on this.

P.S. its way way too early to be wishing you guys a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year so I'll do that closer to the day.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I really like Lallana as a player, I just don't feel we needed to spend over £25m on him. I think we would have been better off utilising the youth players at the club, then putting the money towards a better striker than Balotelli.}

Ok Ed but with BR knowing since last Christmas that Suarez was leaving he had over 100 million to use to secure a top striker but didn't so it's a tad unfair to maintain had he not spent the 25 million on Lallana that he would have used that money and Balotelli money to buy a better striker.
He knew we needed a direct Suarez replacement and didn't do it

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but we needed more than just a replacement for Suarez mate, so I don't see how it is unfair to suggest that the money could have been better spent than being used on a player we didn't need. It doesn't matter how good he is, he is not that much better than what we have in the academy to require the money being spent, rather than putting the effort in to developing out youngsters. We are skint, and spending money like we are oil shiekhs. Sorry but there is no way you can justify the signing of Lallana unless he wins us the league, which he simply isn't going to do.}

Well said Ed001. Lallana is no doubt a good player, but we simply did not need him. Not only has his signing made the club coffers poorer by 25 million GBP but effectively ended Suso's stint with LFC. Right now Lallana is the better player of the two, but Suso will imo be world class in a couple of years which Lallana will never be. This has been Brendan's biggest problem, not trusting the players at his disposal and relying on FSG to give him money for newcomers who are no better. Unless this changes, the only way for the club is backwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

Llalana certainly isn't going to win us the league sitting on the bench our being withdrawn early in every game he starts. I'm with you Ed001 I really like him too, I've found it very frustrating how he's been used, I can't imagine how frustrating he's found it. Makes you wonder was he even a Rodgers signing. Ed001 had there been any signs of unrest from Lallana in how his Liverpool career has started?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no unrest so far, and he was defo a signing Rodgers pushed for.}

Lallana is the best of our summer buys. I don't have any problem with us signing him. Markovic, Balo, Lovren and Manquillo are the ones that we didn't need.

Red Rum

Agree5 Disagree0

I agree Red Rum that we didn't need Markovich, Ballo or Manquillo. But Lovren I think was needed, the only sore point is how poor he has been. Most fans at the time I believe were happy with his signing, he appeared to be the commanding leader we needed at the back, but no one could have predicted how badly it would have gone so far. And I say so far as its early days for him. Surely he'll get a run out with Toure, who is more comfortable on his right foot, at some stage???

Agree1 Disagree0

"He is not much better than we have in the academy" wow this is going a lot far considering you've been playing down origi and how good he is why over rate the kids in the academy? I thought it was a more responsible view being taken ie: play it down so people don't expect too much from him (origi). But now we're expecting someone from the academy to be nearly as good as lallana? Who's been a joy to watch since he joined and I know you like him as a player so I don't understand this

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - don't lie, I have done no such thing about Origi. I have given an opinion, now stop picking and wasting my time with no reason. If you have a worthwhile point to make then make it.}

Markovic is very talented and was bought last summer because all experts agreed that he has real talent, not only us were interested in him.
Balotelli is a better stiker than we have seen he just is not a lone striker.
Once sturridge returns Balo will come good.
Lallana is a good player but we did not really need him plus 25mil could have been spend on a defensive midfielder.
Lucas is clearly not in Br long term plans.
We have made too many mistakes in the transfer market the last 2 seasons and we are paying the price for it.
Ed made 1 comment i agree 100% with, we should buy less players and spend the same money on better quality.
FSG have given us the funds, i sometimes think these americans have no clue abt football.
Malta

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think there were many interested in Markovic at £20M+, sorry.

Balotelli is a better striker then we've seen, but still not a very good one. His scoring record without penalties has been poor for well over 2 years and his conversion rate abysmal.

Do agree we didn't need Lallana, but at least he is a good player.

Hope everyone is excited about tonight's game. May the force be with the Team, do you think BR will start with Borini and Lambert?
We have to score 1 or 2 goals in the first half, we need a high tempo and pressing game. Do you feel Borini will be given chance tonight?

No ed01, I was just referring to better player than wanyama.
Cheers mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Eds but I thought one go the Eds and definitely a lot of the posters here have stated that Can is not a defensive midfielder.
I would think at his age and with the experience he has of playing in midfield and in defense for previous club and country that he should be easily able to cope with a defensive midfield role so no need for Schniderlaan

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - nor is Schneiderlin and how is that relevant anyway? By area of the field I wasn't talking about his role in the team was I?}
