So fellow reds. Now that Rodgers has departed & odds on that we have a new manager in Klopp what are your realistic expectations for this season & next. My own personal feelings were that had things stayed the same we would of been 8th to 10th place team out of the cup's & Europe early on. Now I feel a little more hopeful. Maybe a top 6 position this season, a good run in the F.A Cup, out of the group stages in Europe at least & but not too far in the league cup.
Next year if he can have a good clear out of some who aren't good enough, bring in his own type of player & build the team I think a top 4 finish next year would be achievable. I support him as he is our manager regardless of results & performances as long as he is heading us in the right direction. I think he has inherited an average squad that needs good strong leadership & stability.
Thoughts.
Onwards & upwards. YNWA

Europa league and league cup

My expectations are to be watching attractive attacking football with a motivated team that seems to actually care. The rest will fall into place.

I reckon more of what we have been used too til Xmas. Then I half expect his ideas to start to come through. Go on bit of a run maybe sneak top 4 this year? Wouldn't be disappointed though if we don't but we see a marked improvement and a team ethos / identity

I think he's inherited a great young squad. Bear in mind the likes of Markovic, Flanagan, Teixera, Ilori (who he tried to sign) and Wisdom are not there and are all very young. Plus the likes of Can, Moreno, Gomez, Ibe and Ings will all benefit for the remainder under Klopp. I can see Sahko, Benteke, Sturridge, Coutinho, Firmino, Clyne, Lallana and Henderson all being certain regulars if not starters for a lot of the season.

That leaves the likes of Lovren, Enrique, Skrtle, Mignolet, Milner, Allen, Lucas and maybe Origi who may not be guaranteed games if any in Enriques case. I'd say it would be a great move if Bournemouth took Origi for the remainder of the season in January. They have two strikers out and the regular games Origi would get would be better than sitting on our bench.

I think Klopp (how good is that to say) will look for a new keeper in January. Possibly demoting Mignolet to number two or he leaves for first team football. Which for the rest of season would see Bogdan as number two, not too bad.

I can see a youngster breaking into the squad and for me I'd go with one of Chiravella or Teixera. Klopp will surely be impressed with the crop of youngsters we have.

I do hope we don't lose Linjders in the back room shuffle from what I know he's highly regarded and has already done good work at the club. To lose him after him only being promoted in the summer would be a big loss. Surely his old job would be viable??

Lastly I just wanted to say that the owners have done us good if we do retain Klopp. They have bankrolled Rodgers to over 300 million and now get us Klopp we should be grateful for that. When you look at where we were when they arrived to this point they have done great work in not only stabilising the club but working tirelessly on getting us upwards.

Think we'll make top four, possibly Chelsea missing out, although I'd be astonished if Mourinho doesn't turn things around quickly there, or maybe United, who remain average, just more consistently so than others.
Klopp will also no doubt take the cups seriously, as he has a track record of doing, but I'd be surprised if we challenged on all four fronts so I'd conclude:
*League- 4th place, 65-70 points
*League Cup- SFs-Winners (Should beat Bournemouth, then one more round til semi-finals, at which point it'd be taken seriously)
*FA Cup- 5th round/QFs, tough set of fixtures around March, plus League Cup final if we made it, would not surprise if it was let go
*Europa League- QFs-Winners, If we can turn around our poor start and win our group I'm confident we'll reach at least the semis, with Klopp European nights at Anfield will become electric once again!

Nice one, I just hope we have strong and convincing performances

Klopp will move a lot of players on and concentrate on building a solid core. That will take him a year. Then he will build on that core - another year. You are looking at season 17/18 before we start to put a sustained campaign together in the Prem and realistically 18/19 at the earliest before we are back in the Champions League,

Other than that, we may get a few good cup runs in the meantime and anything else is a bonus.

We are in a mess and it's going to be a slog to sort it out.

Of course I want us to win every game we play. I honestly think that 4th or higher is not beyond us assuming we're not too hampered by injuries. Apart from City, all the other contenders are at best inconsistent and we're not too far off in terms of points. It depends how long the new manager takes to turn around performances. A decent cup run / win would be a bonus, but given the requirement to secure CL football to both retain key squad members e.g. Coutinho, and to give the opportunity to attract one or two more established players in key positions (please let's not have another summer with 8 or so new arrivals), securing the best league position we can manage should be priority. The Europa league obviously affords us an alternative opportunity for CL qualification, but I reckon it's harder to win than achieving at least 4th. I think that this is why FSG have acted now, coupled with the sense that their preferred target was available (unlike at the end of the summer).
Given some of the transfer and contract decisions the club has made recently (Benteke, Milner, Sakho, possibly Firminho) I do wonder whether they've had one eye on a potential managerial change.
As I've previously come out in support of BR, I'm now eating my words. With hindsight I agree the change was required. I think patience will be required going forward though.

Klopp doesn't take any game for granted. He plays to win every game and is that is the right attitude to have. My expectation is that we try to win every game we play no matter the opponent.

To be honest i think klopp will like our squad as it is, with the addition on maybe another actual winger.

The ones i'd be worried for are milner, allen, lallana, lovren, skrtel and mignolet more than anything. can't see them lasting very long if we do appoint klopp.
