Can somebody please explain to me why this is an expensive mistake signing Caulker? Eds, please explain why you seem to be slamming Klopp and the club for signing him on loan? I agree with Macca on this one and think it could be a shrewed signing.

{Ed001's Note - because he is not a good player, is on high wages and we had to pay two fees to get him, one to Southampton to cancel their loan (even though they were already wanting to get out of it) and one to QPR. Added to that we don't need a defender as the injuries were clearing up, it is obvious that it was a major mistake.}

Hi Ed 01,

It looks like i am picking fights today, promise i am not.

But a major mistake, surely Benteke is classed as a major mistake.

Am i missing the point or do we have important games coming up with only a fit Toure and Sakho.

Again i am interested to know how much Caulker has cost us because it appears to be a lot of money, can you enlighten us pal, genuinely interested.

Cheers

Macca.

{Ed001's Note - Lovren is fit. Ilori is fit. We have others too in the youth team. Bringing Benteke into it is pointless, he was an awful signing, but the lesson has not been learnt and we are again signing a player who is not good enough on big money. This time the mistake is that we are signing him to cover for injuries that have cleared up. Caulker earns about 90k a week + we are paying fees for him, so we are paying millions of pounds for 6 months of a player who would never be near the team under normal circumstances. It is insanity.}

16 Jan 2016 16:27:41
Is ilori fit? The one game he had against a league two team he was struggling after an hour. Is he really up to the rigours of a game in the Premier League at this point?

I genuinely hope that he gets his chance but maybe heven needs a full pre-season under Klopp to get that chance.

16 Jan 2016 16:31:28
But Ed the manager clearly doesn't think the current players are good enough.

Just because we have llori etc on the books doesn't mean the current manager has to rate and trust him to play in the big games, they are not his signings and now gets to see them train everyday hence another reason for recalling them.

At the end of the day i understand your reasoning but i don't think its a massive mistake.

It is a cost that the club has decided to take on, i was told that his wages are being subsidised .

Anyway hope you are well mate.

Here is hoping for a big win tomorrow.

Cheers

Macca.

{Ed001's Note - if Ilori is not good enough, why did we pay a fee to recall him? Just leave him be if he is not good enough and if they didn't know whether he was good enough, why didn't they find out? This is something Klopp needs to look at, our scouting system is appalling and we are among the worst clubs in European football for the way we just farm players out on loan and forget about them. We do very little in the way of monitoring to them or talking to them, that was why Klopp had to get them back to have a look at them, as no one was bothering with them while away.

I am good thanks mate, fingers crossed we get any kind of win. I will take a 1-0 anything.}

16 Jan 2016 16:46:42
Surely the money from llori was offset from the monies that Villa paid us.

i believe the Liverpool of old would have signed an average player on a long contract and we would never have been able to sell.

So i see both sides.

2.0 tomorrow . Caulker first goal. Ha ha .

take care

Cheers

Macca.

{Ed001's Note - no it wasn't mate. The Liverpool of old would have not signed anyone, because they would have trusted what they had in the system. The Liverpool of recent years would have panicked and signed someone on big wages. Short or long term contract is irrelevant, the only issue is whether or not we needed him.}

All I care is that Caulker is better than Ilori and Skrtel, as good as Toure (but with better fitness) and also more fit than Sakho who is constantly getting injured.

I'm not interested in money, all I care about is what happens on the pitch.

Caulker wasn't my preferred option by any stretch of the imagination but we did need a centre back. We wouldn't even be having this discussion if we'd signed someone like Niklas Sule or Neven Subotic. It's amazing how when we sign an average player "we didn't need them". Don't pull your punches just say it as it is. You think he's average and shouldn't have been signed. It's nothing to do with us not needing a centre back. 2 weeks ago it was pretty much unanimously accepted that we needed to sign a centre back in this window. That didn't change when we recalled Ilori because he isn't up to playing against Exeter; let alone Premier League/ European opposition.

-Skrtel is injured and useless.
-Ilori is unfit and useless.
-Toure is injury prone.
-Sakho is injury prone.
-Lovren has been playing well at Liverpool for about 6 weeks.

How can anybody in their right mind say we didn't need a centre back? Just because you don't rate Caulker as good enough (which neither do I btw) doesn't mean that Klopp doesn't and it certainly doesn't mean that he wasn't needed.

{Ed002's Note - You say two of the five are "useless", two "injury prone" and one only playing well for a few weeks - then the player you are justifying you don't think is good enough either. But you are correct, Klopp may see this old Rodgers target who can neither get in a Championship team nor Southampton as the personification of niftiness. All hail Klipperty.}

16 Jan 2016 17:20:45
How are you right to judge Ilori on 60 minutes and a debut against a League Two team away? To come to the conclusion that he's useless is more than a rush of blood to the head.

16 Jan 2016 17:08:23
Ed, if you wish to say "in my opinion Caulker is a mistake" then fine. I will actually agree with you.

But don't sit there and say "Klopp has made a mistake, Caulker wasn't needed and the club panicked" as if it is a fact, when it's not a known fact.

I don't rate Caulker but I do recognise that we needed a centre back. As did everyone else two weeks ago. Now we've signed one, just because people don't rate him we now magically never needed one? Come on mate, that's laughable.

If Klopp rates Caulker then I'm going to trust him on that because so far he hasn't given me any reason not too. If at the end of the season Caulker has barely played or been useless, then we can criticise the decision to loan him as a fact. Right now, it's all opinions and I don't think it's fair to make an assumption that Klopp had no idea what he was doing.

{Ed001's Note - oh shut up lecturing when you do that kind of thing all the time. So sanctimonious.

How is it laughable? Can you not read? Our injuries have recovered, we no longer need cover for them. Oh and it is a fact the club panicked and made a signing when Subotic was not making his mind up over a loan, as he was hanging around waiting for a permanent deal.

How the hell can you trust Klopp's judgement when he is not the one judging the player? It is the scouts who are making the judgement, the same scouts that we had in the summer who did such a good job.....

Oh and do not presume to lecture me about what I can or cannot say on my own website. When you make your pronouncements, you are always crying about how people tell you not to, now you presume to tell others what to do.}

16 Jan 2016 17:14:41
And I know this is a little off subject but Mascherano could barely get a game for West Ham, Sturridge barely got a game at Chelsea, Coutinho barely got a game at Inter.

Sometimes there is a reason for it and sometimes it just doesn't click for certain players at certain clubs. I'm hoping Caulker just didn't click there.

In general I agree with you that Caulker isn't good enough but I refuse to believe that Klopp has no idea what he's doing. He is far too good a manager in my opinion. And if he has made a mistake, well then you can crucify him in the summer and believe me I'll be criticising too. It's too early to write Caulker off now though.

If Klopp thinks he is useful addition, let's give him a chance to prove himself correct before we make the decision that he's wrong.

{Ed001's Note - Mascherano was an Argentinian international who couldn't get a game for a manager who had never seen him play and so thought he was a rubbish right winger. How is that relevant to anything other than to show off how little you know?

Sturridge barely got a game because he couldn't play the style of football they played. Again how is that relevant? Everyone knew he had ability, it was whether he was too selfish or not that was the issue and whether he would work hard enough.

Coutinho is showing why he struggled at Inter, he was too inconsistent and the manager didn't trust him. Has that changed? Not sure it has.

Nor am I sure how any of that is relevant to a player that has flopped at multiple clubs in the Prem already in his chosen role? This isn't a kid struggling to find his way, this is an established failure. What happened with those others it nothing to do with this and it is pointless you even bringing it into it. This is as dumb as those crap stats you are so fond of.}

16 Jan 2016 17:43:00
On a very slightly related note, is Lovren back for tomorrow then ed001?

{Ed001's Note - so the club have said, yes mate. Only Skrtel (and Lloyd Jones if you count the youth defenders) will be out injured of the defence. Some might not be fully fit, such as Flanno, but they are all training.}

16 Jan 2016 18:01:17
Shouldn't the fact before every reply the Eds give you, it says Ed001/ 002's note, be enough of a clue they are giving you their opinion? So many precious souls about these days, and so many PC posters worried about making sure people say what they accept as the right thing. If anything anyone says on here, a football site started by a sober pom (also known as a unicorn) who lives in Dubai, upsets you to the point you spit the dummy out, try going outside and conversing with other flesh vehicles and realising there's more to life.

I do feel for the Eds. Especially you 001, at least 002 has his "herbal remedies" to relieve the stress.

{Ed002's Note - Everything's everything.}

16 Jan 2016 18:11:49
Dont say that on the conspiracy page Ed002. Asking for trouble!

16 Jan 2016 19:40:22
Your tongue is a bit brown Melbourne?

17 Jan 2016 00:31:28
I actually find it really funny.

Liverpool fans "bash" signings, potential signings
We get called all sorts of names,
We stick up for a signing, potential signing we get bashed.
EMS. I agree with you.

Let his football do the talking, wether that's good or bad.

Everyone may be fit. But I bet no one thought we would lose 3 players to injury in one game. Things can happen and we still have 4 months of the season to go.

17 Jan 2016 00:39:55
Ah of course, because siding with the eds, rather than the braindead makes you a suck up. I'll go smash my head against a wall for the next month and come back as an avid supporter of yours Omalley.
