Hi Eds, Has there been any hint as to which former player the third coach joining the staff will be? I've heard Sami Hyypia and Bolo Zenden mentioned before but wondered if anything more substantial than offerings of the twitterscope had emerged.

{Ed001's Note - nothing mate, there were lots of people putting themselves forward for roles but no word on who will be getting it yet.}

Agree0 Disagree0

With our defensive frailties I would hope it was going to Hyypia.
His service to the club certainly offers more in terms of respect for his authority than that of Bolo Zenden. To use an adapted Carragher quote, kids grew up wanting to be Sami Hyypia, no one grew up wanting to be Bolo Zenden!

{Ed001's Note - except Hyypia has shown no signs of being a good coach, who cares what he was like as a player? He is no longer a player, move on. Zenden on the other hand has shown himself to be an intelligent coach who is very well respected as a coach. Hyypia is a failed manager. You would be making a huge mistake to choose based on their playing career, quite sad you even brought that into it.}

Third in Bundesliga with Leverkusen 2012-2013 isn't that bad. Do he had help from Lewandowski.
Fourth in Bundeskiga 2013-2014 alone.

Yeah I think it's a bit harsh to dismiss Hyypia as a 'failed manager' just because he had a rough tie at Brighton. They were in a period of transition anyway. However, I agree that their prowess as players hasn't much to do with their ability as coaches.

{Ed001's Note - Brighton was not his first managerial failure.}

Guys you can't not agree with the Ed on this he's talking a vast amount of sense. Zenden is a great coach, I was rather hoping for a top class goalkeeping coach however

And here's what's wrong with the endglish game, not only are you nor good enough as a coach if you haven't been a top footballers. You also won't get 'respected'

Wenger, mourinho, klopp, Evans hjst a few examples or fantastic coaches lauded by there current/ex players. Not great footballing careers though.

There could be a kid on a coaching course now who is going to be the best coach in world football. But will he get a chance ? Nope because he will stuggle to get himself into the game over here.

Have a read up on newcastles new assistant manager. Not a chance of getting in over here, goes away gets his stripes in other countries (26 and assistant manager at Valencia) and now gets a shot.

You will find the very very best coaches in football our failed/not great footballers. And it is there buring desire to be in the game that actually makes them great coaches. Also a lot realise quickly through never getting picked up or getting an injury/releases etc that they might go another away and get into coaching and therefore start there football education very early compared to someone like Gerrard for example. By this time nourinho abd been in the game on the coaching aide for about 16 years and getrard hasn't even took his first course yet.

Very sad state of affairs.

I also meant to post aswel that if you look at the football and the nfl now. Two of the most popular sports in the planets.

The two current vest coaches are

Bill Belichick & Jose Mourinho

Neither played there respected sports as professionals.

History will back in up go get yourselves to a library or on titnernet.

The best coaches / managers didn't have fantastic players careers.

I'm not saying a lot wouldn't of played the games and I'm also not saying that top ex pros dint make good coaches (one pep guad)

But the majority were never these amazing players

Pepijn Lijnders will be promoted from the academy to fill this position, he is an excellent technical coach who will work to develop all players ability on the ball but the particularly the younger players.

03 Jul 2015 12:34:41
Pepijn Lijnders is taking the second post Mick not the third ;)

03 Jul 2015 14:47:26
Pepjin will do what he is told.

Anyone getting this yet ?

He will follow brendans instructions
.

Has it been confirmed there will be three assistant coaches? I've only heard we're replacing Pascoe and Marsh with O' Driscoll & Lijnders.
