Morning Ed002, hope the travels are going well. I read this morning that Chelsea may look to bring in Paul Mitchell. With your previous updates suggesting there was a good chance LFC were looking to recruit him for the DoF role, are you aware of any new information?
Thanks.

stuie_boy

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have been talking to him.}

1.) 30 Apr 2023 15:01:02
Speaking of Chelsea ed Klopp said “man or woman” when he said we’re looking to bring in a sporting director is Marina Granovskaia who used to be at Chelsea a candidate at all or is that reading into comments too much.

{Ed002's Note - No she is not an option.}

2.) 30 Apr 2023 19:35:19
Thought they’d only just bought in Vivell?

{Ed002's Note - They will have different jobs.}

3.) 01 May 2023 12:15:46
Interesting.

10 Aug 2022 08:23:56
Sorry Ed, gf distracted me talking about what we need in the shopping and sent early! In short, my question is, is it just the one midfielder we need from next season, or a bit of a mini overhaul, with maybe a more experienced midfield player and some backups if we remove the likes of ox, naby, Thiago etc.

stuie_boy

{Ed002's Note - The club need to consider players are aging and that together with how the youngsters do will determine the needs.}

1.) 10 Aug 2022 09:40:10
From next season? Back To The Future style?

2.) 10 Aug 2022 09:53:38
You have to at some point have some forward planning. Would be very surprised if Klopp hasn’t already done this. It could be that Morton comes back from Blackburn having as good an impact as Elliott, and comes straight back in to the squad and hit the ground running, Elliott himself a year older and more game time, same with Jones, with possibly 1 midfielder brought in next year. There are so many kids coming through, loads highly rated, not all will make it, but buying players will only block their pathway, but I am expecting at least 1, if not 2 to come I. To the squad from next season and starting to see more game time at first team level.

3.) 10 Aug 2022 11:07:20
When people say forward planning, what are they looking for? We have Jones, Elliot and Carvalho already here and in the first team. Bajcetic, Morton coming through. Seasoned vets in Hendo, Keita, Fabinho, Thiago, Milner for those kids to learn from. I’d say we are witnessing the forward planning right in front of our eyes.

4.) 10 Aug 2022 11:18:02
Jones has to step up this year. He was top of the pass completion charts in the squad last season i believe, yet holds onto he ball far too long.
Hopefully between Fab, Harvey and Jones, at least one of them steps up and forges a path into regular first team action.

5.) 10 Aug 2022 12:13:02
Whats overly wrong with him holding onto the ball if he thinks that's safer than attempting the pass that's on? Countless times when watching Jones i've been happy he's held onto possession instead of trying to force a pass, i think it shows confidence in his own ability.

6.) 10 Aug 2022 13:41:28
For me i think we need 2 midfielders in 1 of which is hopefully Bellingham but i think we need 1 now and cut our losses and offload Ox and Naby.

7.) 10 Aug 2022 14:14:38
Trent is the only academy player to do well for us in a decade. Bar Kelleher maybe i guess. hard to decide because of so little games but i’d say so. Yet some want the squad filled with the likes of Phillips and Morton

Elliott i think will be very good for us, however if Jones doesn’t seriously step up this season i’d cash in 20/ 25m and put it towards a first team player. Morton the same decent loan spell and hopefully cash in.

8.) 10 Aug 2022 16:32:07
Academy is about to seriously bear fruit, better kids coming through than there's been in a long tine.

9.) 10 Aug 2022 16:55:02
I see Tyler Morton fitting the Fabinho role and at a push Carvalho being a Thiago in a couple of years but I do not see a Henderson unless we get Bellingham. Can we what for Carvalho to fill Thiagos boots.

{Ed001's Note - Morton is not a defensive midfielder and he will not be filling the Fabinho role unless he completely changes his game.}

10.) 10 Aug 2022 18:41:51
I’d have said that Elliott looks more Thiago-like than anyone?
The good thing is that the young players all bring something different to the table, so hopefully a good mix.
Bellingham would be awesome though.

11.) 10 Aug 2022 19:29:15
So now we need to get Thiago out too. Presume Hendo and Fabinho as well as they are 30 plus and had bad games vs Fulham. Posters here are amazing. Insight that not even Klopp and the club have. Yeah we need an overhaul with at least 3 new CMs. Hoping we go for the McFred and Bruno value meal combo.

12.) 10 Aug 2022 19:44:07
There’s room in a 3 midfield system for 1 youngster. Other 2 need to be proven world class players or at least near top of their country for us to win the premier league and or champions league. None of our main midfielders are world or even country class and are on the decline, injured or need a run of games to be ‘agile. ’ Klopp has worked miracles but now needs to buy a world class midfielder.

13.) 10 Aug 2022 20:43:35
Some strange views here. We’ve got a load of kids, and a number of ageing players with no quality at a decent age say 24-26 age bracket, that are already extremely good with room to grow. That’s the sort if midfielder we need. Bellingham clearly an exception.

14.) 10 Aug 2022 21:30:43
Rambo, we don't need to get anyone out, but with the main crop of midfielders all around the same age, it could be said we would need to replace three midfielder in 1 or 2 windows as opposed to a gradual introduction of youngsters and new purchases. My point being, there has been a lot of talk on this site about getting a new midfielder in with the main focus on Bellingham, but looking at our current midfield, it got me thinking that maybe we are being distracted from the fact that we may need more than just one in the next 12 months. All part of initiating a debate, you can join in any time with some constructive conversation as opposed to the usual sarcasm, unless that's your limit?

15.) 10 Aug 2022 21:37:16
I remember reading in here how Klopp couldn’t see that our front 3 needed changing and there was going to be a massive problem going forwards because FSG wouldn’t pay up to replace them with quality. How did they pan out? , chill out guys, trust the gaffer, he knows much more about this game than you ever will.

16.) 11 Aug 2022 14:19:02
Sometimes a new contract for a young player can prelude an incoming.
Nunes is about the best player left in the Portuguese league and is surely a big step up from the Ox and Naby, so it makes sense on many levels.

17.) 12 Aug 2022 08:59:37
Seems it just popular to hate on Jones at the moment. Thiago holds onto the ball sometime but when he does it it’s all game management and controlling the flow of the game. Jones does the same and all he gets is he ‘hold the ball too long’, he needs to step up etc etc. none of us have any idea what Klopp is asking them to do. Jones is a very talented and hard working midfield all rounder who I think will be big for us in the coming years. I’m sticking my neck out and predicting he will be Hendo’s successor in the 8 role when Hendo and Milner are retired.

18.) 12 Aug 2022 13:38:29
Nunes ability to take on players, defend and tackle well, and find good passes even in crowded areas, plus has good finishing ability is something Liverpool doesn’t have with this midfield. They work hard, link play well, but we saw how good this team looked when Oxlaide Chamberlain was in form driving at teams from midfield. This for me is why firmino struggles to find goals with this team. You need a midfielder that can put pressure on a center back so firmino can find gaps and open shooting lanes. Every time firmino touches the ball around the box he’s got one or two guys on him. Nunes has found some goals already but I do think if Liverpool had a guy like this in midfield firmino would be a much bigger threat. He just never gets to touch the ball facing goal with space.

19.) 13 Aug 2022 11:05:10
Klopp said technical players lack the fight and fighting players lack the technical skills. I would say Nunes has both .

12 Jan 2022 12:11:15
With Newcastle reportedly paying Chris Woods' £25m release clause, any chance they're interested in Origi?!

stuie_boy

{Ed002's Note - I would not expect Origi to be sold this month.}

1.) 12 Jan 2022 13:11:22
While we might be signing a striker this window to cover the Alcon, we would surely be fools to let 1 of our 4 recognised ones depart. Those calling for Origi to depart this window are deluded.

2.) 12 Jan 2022 14:32:05
Origi is nvr fit plays one misses then he’s hardly reliable!

3.) 12 Jan 2022 15:11:29
Was more tongue in cheek for all you sensible Sally's out there. I was more highlighting the fact that Newcastle are rumoured to pay over £20m for a 30 year old who has scored 3 goals in 17 appearances yet our players are deemed 'over priced'

4.) 12 Jan 2022 15:28:10
£20mil was the buy out clause I’m led to believe.
They had to pay it and I doubt Burnley were too keen on letting him go.

5.) 12 Jan 2022 15:34:21
Burnley getting the better deal there. mmmn a striker that doesn't score goals. Origi is a much better striker in my humble opinion.

6.) 12 Jan 2022 15:50:59
Pot lay, surely be fools to sell him now or lose him for free in the summer?

7.) 12 Jan 2022 19:10:20
He’s worth more to us for the remainder of the season than the pittance we’d get on transfer fee. Who could we realistically buy at this stage to replace Origi on the cheap? Literally no one is the answer.

There’s not one striker out there available at a price we can afford who is better than him right now. If he goes on a fee in the summer, that’s fine. It’s not a lot that we’ve lost.

8.) 12 Jan 2022 20:04:25
He may well of scored some important goals and some fans might wear tinted specs because of this but he’s poor at best. Ask Ed 25 if he’d have him at Everton, I don’t need too I know what his answer will be.

{Ed001's Note - Ed025 thought Digne was the best left back in the world a few weeks ago, so why would anyone ask him about a player playing for Liverpool when he never sees anything good in Liverpool players anyway? What a bizarre way to back up your opinion.}

9.) 12 Jan 2022 22:36:48
Chris Woods : Burnley to Newcastle
Divock Origi : Liverpool go Burnley.

Origi gets game time and can still live in the area he is settled in.

Before the slanging match about Div recommences I would add this pure speculation on my part with no evidence whatsoever, more a case of 2 + 2 = 4 😁😁.

{Ed025's Note - i like it though mate..

10.) 13 Jan 2022 07:53:39
Again the question is Pegleg, for the pittance we’d get for Origi, and then after various disbursements have been paid, who can we afford to bring in to replace him? As we’ll get between £5m and £7m at most given that he’s in the last 6 months of his contract. Which won’t help us in the games that Salah and Mane are away. Fact is that he’s worth more here right now than a few million quid in the transfer coffers.

11.) 12 Jan 2022 22:45:08
Ok, ask ed14 if he’d have him at Arsenal. My point being a lot of red fans over hype him because some of the goals he’s scored. I’ve never hidden the fact I don’t think he’s good enough.

{Ed014's Note - err NO 😂

19 Aug 2021 10:00:35
Morning Ed002, I remember you saying LFC had interest in Hoppe from Schalke and it is now being reported that Everton could sign him for as little as £4m. Have we acted on our interest and would he be considered a player to challenge for a starting spot, I don't know much about him (MK - feel free to report! )?

stuie_boy

{Ed002's Note - Matthew Hoppe (S) American youngster has been advised to stay in Germany although Schalke are likely sell him in the summer. However, he has attracted interest from a number of sides including Everton, Barcelona and Spurs and the feeling is in the States that FSG might look to having him recruited for Liverpool as he is one of the up-and-coming American players. Certainly, clubs have been scouting him and recent form has been good. I don't see that he would be a starter for any of the leading clubs and unless paying well over the odds a Work Permit may be an issue in England.}

1.) 19 Aug 2021 10:31:16
I think at £4m it’s worth a punt. Loan him back out to Schalke so he gets regular first team football and go from there.

{Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen.}

2.) 19 Aug 2021 11:19:57
With our transfer budget. It’s No hoppe.

3.) 19 Aug 2021 11:52:33
Not a Hoppe in hell we'd sign him!

4.) 19 Aug 2021 14:34:59
Thanks Ed, interesting take on the FSG feelings towards the signing. Are they pushing LFC as a market in the US? If so, a signing like Hoppe would attract fan interest State side.

{Ed002's Note - The feeling in the US is that they should recruit an American player if they can.}

5.) 19 Aug 2021 14:53:17
Should have bought dest when he was in Holland and moved Trent into midfield if that’s the case. Could probably get him from Barcelona now with all their money troubles.

6.) 19 Aug 2021 15:47:38
Interesting on American players. Big fan of Weston Mckennie from Juve. Would be a nice addition to the midfield. Good Gini replacement and I think Juve are open to offers.

{Ed002's Note - He has only moved this summer.}

7.) 19 Aug 2021 16:10:47
Christian Pulisic would have been our best American option.

8.) 19 Aug 2021 16:48:30
I really like Hoppe. Young and with a good motor. Was the best player on the US squad during the Gold Cup in my opinion.

I tend to agree that staying in Germany may be long term, but it would be fun to see him in England like Sargent.

9.) 19 Aug 2021 19:56:51
The US must be a huge potential talent pool?
Massive population and many awesome athletes, albeit soccer is far from number one sport out there.
But, with the game growing, I can really see the US being a future source of talent.
I’d certainly like to see FSG look at this, if they’re not already doing so.

10.) 19 Aug 2021 20:53:49
If only that Clint Dempsey transfer had come off!

11.) 20 Aug 2021 00:44:21
Juicer, believe it or not it’s the most played sport in the US by a long shot. We did coin the phrase “soccer mom”. I know it had the most registered players over any other sport for year after year. I think the biggest problem is that as kids get older and into high school (14/ 15 years of age) the sport isn’t as attractive for nailing down scholarships etc., sports in general here is a huge business within the under 18’s for both boys and girls. Sadly many of the parents think their kids will get a scholarship for college but in reality few do, and many of the scholarships aren’t even a drop in the bucket. My wife is going to Bard College in NY, she got a full scholarship, definitely not an athletic one. The tuition there is $75k per year…. that’s not a typo. So most kids go into baseball/ softball/ basketball/ football/ golf…golf is a big one too….

19 Aug 2014 13:12:59
So apparently Suarez went for £65 million quid, not £75m. Absolute outrage, Ayre should be sacked, as well as Rodgers, and Gerrard and the lady who makes the teas at Melwood while we are at it

stuie_boy

{Ed002's Note - The total amount that went to Liverpool after a small payment to Ajax, converted in to Sterling at today's rate, is a £62M and change. There would then be a few other costs that the club has to pay - and that would need to be deducted. I did explain this at the time, so can we finally now put this to bed.}

Just another thing I noticed when watching the derby and by no means am I alluding to a 'conspiracy' or using this as an excuse as to why we lost, but more an observation: for one of everyone's goals from the corner, their defender was deliberately blocking VVD from reaching the ball which resulted in the goal, even the commentators/ analysis team mentioned it in a positive light.

Now, if I remember correctly, did VVD not have a goal ruled out for pretty much the exact same thing - team mate preventing a defender from reaching the ball / defending zone?

It just seems bizarre one week a rule is implemented and then the next it seems to go unpunished and on this case, lauded by commentators as smart play by the opposing team. Another frustrating thing is that none of these pundits or commentators pull it up and question why the rules are changing week in week out. No wonder there is no consistency if they are never held to account, just so frustrating.

stuie_boy

1.) 29 Apr 2024 10:30:47
I think you're referring to the Carling Cup final goal where VVD's goal was ruled out because Endo was in an offside position and impeded a defender from getting back. That's a different situation than the one you're referring to though since there's no offsides from corners.

To clarify myself, I don't think VVD's goal then should have been ruled out then since I don't think Endo was interfering with the play. But if VVD was impeded from coming for a ball from a corner, then I think he should have been stronger. He's a big guy and is supposedly quite strong. Unless he was fouled, then I don't see much issue with that kind of play.

2.) 29 Apr 2024 10:32:23
Well iirc the issue is Endo, the player who blocked off an opponent for VVD's disallowed goal, was offside not that he blocked someone off.

So I suppose it's a case of were any Everton players offside from frees whilst doing that. I genuinely don't remember.

3.) 29 Apr 2024 10:53:33
I obviously didn't remember that correctly and thinking back yes, you're right it was the offside wasn't it, no wonder no one was talking about it!

4.) 29 Apr 2024 16:44:21
Stui, I saw that as well. On the second goal, VVD was getting blocked by Tarkowski. On another chance in the first half, Tarkowski blatantly shoves VVD in the back to prevent him from challenging Branthwaite who won the header. It happened many times in the game. It is what bit is.

{Ed025's Note - VVD shouldn,t be such a little fart then.. :)

5.) 29 Apr 2024 17:43:56
VVD was less of a fart before Pickford maimed him Ed025.

As for analysing corners - it’s like p-ing in the wind. There are probably a dozen offences for both teams at every corner. If you get penalised, you’ve been unlucky. If you don’t get a decision, you’ve been unlucky. There’s no injustice because the laws are furiously transgressed every time.

{Ed025's Note - hes a big unit though Ron and should not really be bullied imo, if i was his size i would be the one doing the pushing mate and i certainly wouldn,t be acting like a big girls blouse.. :)

6.) 29 Apr 2024 19:04:07
Everton targetted our best header of the ball. Forget that, Everton targetted our only header of the ball so one of their headers of the ball could get an attempt at goal.
That's good tactics.

7.) 29 Apr 2024 19:37:27
Liverpool were awful against Everton. The blues fully deserved to win as bad as it is. We need to move on. VVD like most of them were hopeless in that game.

8.) 29 Apr 2024 19:57:11
Ed25, you won the title sorry, the game and hats off to your team. Just don't want to ever ever you moan about other teams' players flopping to the ground whenever the oppo. breathes on them, talking down to the rest of us about how the game has gone soft cos sevral of your players looked like little farts flopping to the ground whenever an LFC player walked past them. Just saying.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately going down very easily is all part of the game now it seems Oli, i dont like it myself i must say but every team is guilty of it mate...even the honest as the day is long Liverpool.. :)

27 Nov 2023 11:49:42
Only just got round to watching the match - Ali's usual pinpoint kicking was slightly off, some good saves though.

My question - why do we seem to struggle so badly away to City? I know it isn't just us and they have an impressive home record, but what is it that seems to make an away win for us impossible? It certainly isn't an intimidating atmosphere for the players. It just seems every time we play them away, a draw is the best we can hope for.

stuie_boy

1.) 27 Nov 2023 12:47:32
Too much respect given from opponents in my opinion. Same as United in the 90s.

2.) 27 Nov 2023 13:24:00
Yeah I don’t understand how playing the best team in the world away from home is such a struggle, it’s a mystery.

3.) 27 Nov 2023 13:45:14
What's wrong with accepting that they have shown themseles to be the most dominant and best team in the EPL for the last decade? And maybe that's why it has been so difficult for us (and almost everybody else) to win on their home ground?

I would just add a disclaimer to the above that it does not take into view the financial strength they have nor the FPP charges they are facing at present. You can both argue that it's purely 11 men against 11 on the field so this shouldn't matter, or this matters very much because who you put out on the field makes a difference.

{Ed077's Note - but, but, Guardiola says they are innocent ;-D}

4.) 27 Nov 2023 13:51:08
OP, how many teams have won consistently up there? That is the question really and the answer is next to none apart from Brentford last season and Spurs the season before.

And you said it yourself that all teams struggle up there. Madrid got battered mercilessly in the CL last season at the same ground so essentially, you just answered your own question within the same paragraph. This ain't hard, bro.

5.) 27 Nov 2023 14:12:35
Oli, saying all teams struggle doesn't really answer the question, no. I think you and Thunderbird probably misunderstand the point of the question - LFC have realistically been the only team to seriously challenge City consistently yet despite playing some of the bet football in generations, we consistently seem to struggle away to City. Saying 'they're the best team in the world' doesn't really add much to the conversation - we are more than capable of beating City and have been for several years. Is it a mental block, do City employ different tactics when playing at home?

This is the type of conversation I was hoping to initiate, but sorry if you found the question too difficult, bro.

6.) 27 Nov 2023 16:07:03
Liverpool rarely win at City, City rarely win at Anfield, playing good teams away from home is hard, there is no deeper reason that you are looking for.

7.) 27 Nov 2023 16:27:07
When was the last time City beat us at Anfield? Whether we believe it or not home advantage gives you an edge and makes it difficult for the away team.

City are a really good team and Liverpool are their closest rivals, they can’t afford to lose to Liverpool at home so there’s a bit more effort from them against us. As there is from us against them.

Both teams know how big these games are and what they can mean in the bigger picture. A draw at City is a great result all day, every day.

8.) 27 Nov 2023 16:49:54
Stuie, I will ignore your wretched attempt at insulting others who disagree with you and focus on the actual topic, if you don't mind. Based on the actual facts, nobody beats City at the Etihad, end of. Not Wolves, Bournmouth nor us. Neither does PSG nor Real Madrid who got battered there just last season. There are a lot more receipts where all that came from, btw.

Also and more importantly, City had a 23 game winning streak till we pulled up and snatched a well-deserved point to end the streak. So if those are all provable facts (which they are) then please, enlighten me on what part of your question and my answer) is difficult for you to understand?

You thinking that we are capable of beating City on their patch is just an opinion that means nothing when the facts bare out the absolute opposite of such an opinion. City are strong at home. LFC are strong at Anfield and those are the facts based on the numbers over the past 3/ 4 years. It is what it is, your insults notwithstanding.

9.) 27 Nov 2023 18:32:30
A lot of refs tend to favour the home teams.

10.) 27 Nov 2023 19:06:07
Our record is not awful there. We have achieved 4 draws and 2 wins in 11 visits since Klopp joined.

Quite a few of them were 12:30 kickoffs - which we tend to struggle with in general, whether it is City away or Everton/ Bournemouth away.

One of the defeats (18/ 19) season was probably the highest quality game I have ever witnessed. We lost that thanks to some fine margins and thanks to Kompany not getting punished for the wild tackle on Salah.

The other three drubbings had some context if it matters - one, Mane was imo harshly sent off, two, we had celebrated our first title in 30 years the night before and three, last season our midfield legs were gone.

I do agree that we could perform better there but I also think Klopp teams thrive on atmosphere when playing big games, even if hostile. You press with more energy, play with more aggression and become more clinical due to a heightened focus/ jeopardy. If more of these games had been evening games, I think we'd have a better record there.

11.) 27 Nov 2023 18:42:08
“Why do we seem to struggle so badly away to City” ??? Thank you, that made me laugh.

12.) 27 Nov 2023 19:30:26
Hello Oli. You just insulted me in the below thread. #JustSaying.

13.) 28 Nov 2023 02:06:07
probably cos city are quite a good side.
They've struggled at Anfield in recent years too.
Think it's just two great teams playing their best at home.
Although I must say, we've been them at the Etihad far more times over the last 20 years then they've beaten us at Anfield!

Do you know of any books around the inner working of major football clubs? ideally around the actual business management / administration side of things?

It is something I am interested to learn a bit more about, particularly the senior executive roles and what they do day to day.

stuie_boy

1.) 07 Aug 2023 22:38:17
Most football administrators read the Beano I think.

2.) 08 Aug 2023 05:23:38
@Stuie, they negotiate with Southampton.

Congrats on Rafa becoming the new boss of Celta Vigo. Now we just nee him to do us a favour with Gabri Viega!

1.) 23 Jun 2023 17:41:11
Celta Vigo President: Hi Rafa, welcome to our football club, what do you want to do first?

Rafa: let's sell our best player to a club I managed almost 2 decades ago on the cheap.

Celta Vigo President: I think you should leave.

2.) 23 Jun 2023 18:18:06
I see it going like this Thunder

CV President; Raf dog, welcome to the Vigo Amigo

Rafa: please don't call me that. I don't like that. I need to speak to you about the quality of the squad. Last season was no good. It lacked quality. We need more quality.

CVP: Your el presidente is listening raf dog.

Rafa: again, I have proven quality in managerial business. Please respect and don't call me raf dog. I propose we must lose Veiga. He has release clause. I have connections at Liverpool. We can sell a buy much quality to the team with the money.

CVP: Good thinking raf dog.

I believe it would be at this point that Rafa gets physical with him.

This is how I suspect it goes and even though they are both Spanish I very much suspect they will converse in English.

Davey, one more thing before it gets physical:

Rfa: Ay, Chico. Call me Raf dog, one more time.

CVP: Come on, Raf dog. I was just playing.

And then, the hands come out.

4.) 23 Jun 2023 19:23:37
Davey have you been at the spliffs?

5.) 23 Jun 2023 19:39:32
I desperately need what some of the people on here, are smoking. ?.

6.) 23 Jun 2023 20:36:51
It's just my humour lads. It certainly veers on the quantity over quality on the ratio scale but what you got to do. You got to work with what the big man gave you.

7.) 23 Jun 2023 21:59:21
I think this Banter site should come with a disclaimer that no banter is allowed.

8.) 23 Jun 2023 23:49:05

9.) 24 Jun 2023 09:46:09

Hi Ed's, more of a tech issue - If I select the 'Liverpool Banter' from the drop down at the top of the page, it seems to take me to an alternative LFC Rumours/ Banter site with different posts etc.
Is this a glitch or am I just accessing the Twilight Zone?

stuie_boy

{Ed033's Note - We started the liverpool-banter.co.uk site for people who didn't like Eds replying to their posts, but people didn't want to post regularly on there because presumably, posters like the Eds replies.

1.) 20 Jun 2023 16:25:59
Gotta love the eds. Not surprised that page never took off.

2.) 20 Jun 2023 16:25:17
Ok thanks Ed.

3.) 21 Jun 2023 00:26:18
To avoid go for Liverpool rumours then use the top bar to move over to banter.

4.) 21 Jun 2023 12:40:28
A page here without the eds input would be like sending kids to a school with no teachers! Chaos would ensue and everyone would end up sad.

I don't know, with the cost of goods at the minute and with interest rates as they are, he's probably struggling on anything less than £360k a week. I seen him at the bank the other day asking about a loan to buy a second hand Volvo.

I think the plan is to introduce the luxury tax coupled with sporting sanctions to try and avoid the likes of City and Newcastle just paying the tax. There is also a rumoured salary anchor which I thought was quite interesting. Personally, I see the only way to stop it is by having a salary cap, if all clubs across Europe agreed it would instantly stop clubs getting into financial messes such as Barca. People talk about mismanagement and club owners, but players greed is as much to blame.

Big Sam and Sammy Lee, what a dream team.
Isn't Pep rumoured to be in talks to take over at Ajax? Personally, I think that is a very smart choice for him - big, historic club which he would likely be familiar with but also slightly out of the limelight of the PL, allowing him time and space to develop.

Has this actually been confirmed or is it just from what Hoeness has said? The bbc are leading with an LFC headline but literally the only quote is from Hoeness, which isn't exactly reliable.

Ed, is there no possibility of the club doing a long term loan, similar to what happened with Courtois? It gets him the first choice minutes and also allows time for the changeover when alisson moves on or retires.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t see that being considered at all.}

I obviously didn't remember that correctly and thinking back yes, you're right it was the offside wasn't it, no wonder no one was talking about it!

Personally, I think the turning point has been a gradual thing, set off by losing the league title to City by a single point despite having a record amount of points. The manager and players invested so much physically and mentally, and to be beaten to the title despite such an effort must have dealt a severe blow psychologically. How do you process that? Any other year, it would have easily won the title, but to lose out to a team with financial charges ha hing over them must be very hard to take.

Apparently that clause expires this summer or next, but either way, Newcastle would want a hefty fee.
I think the big fee for Salah has failed, we'd be lucky if we get £70m. I still think we should have sold last year personally.
Amorin, pretty sure Newcastle do need to balance the books, they can't do what city did those years ago and just splash the cash anymore, needs to be a gradual thing. unless you get some convenient sponsorship deals that are suspiciously greater in value than any other, more successful club!

I think AOC had a very decent, single season with us. I also feel his failings weren't through lack of effort, just pure bad luck with injuries. Keita meanwhile obviously knew he'd hit the jackpot with Liverpool and completely gave up trying, happy to earn the thousands a week for not really doing much.
