Just read all the posts slagging Carroll off for another "crap" performance. Did anybody notice how crap Mireles was? Did Raul even a get a touch of the ball? Raul was the worse player on the pitch by, a country mile. Does this make Raul a bad player? Of course it dosn't, it's only a pre-season game and it's only purpose was fitness. It seems some people already have Carroll as hate figure, which is confusing considering he hasn't played that many games for us. Judge Andy in a couple of years, not a couple of months. I'm quite confident if Andy scores a brace against Sunderland, then people will say it was money well spent, no doubt.

It's funny reading all the Aquilani posts, after todays game. Last week this guy was made of glass, to lightweight, we should get rid etc..now he's the new Xabi Alonso. This was a friendly, not a CL final so let's not get carried away. I actually like Aquilani and always have, but he dosn't want to play in England, he dosn't want to live in Liverpool and he dosn't want to play for Liverpool or any other English team. If we can get 10 mill for him, then i'd take it and run. If it gets another unhappy, high earner of the wage bill, then so be it. We all know we've way too many CM's and at least 1-2 will have to be sacrificed, so it would be best for us and Aquilani, if he moved on. Then that creates more room for the likes of young Jay, Henderson, Shelvey etc..to get a few games and get more experience in the PL.

Comolli on SSN saying although there maybe more signings later in the transfer window, there is 'NOTHING LINED UP AT THE MOMENT' which rules out an imminent move for Cissoko unfortunately

I don't usually take much notice of pre-season results, but in the last 2 games I have some concerns. They've highlighted our lack of pace in the central defender position & Carragher looks way off the pace. We definitely need a CB as priority over any other position.

Really? John Henry from the Great US of A or Great Sankey? JH would know about as much about a football player than you would a baseballer.

He would also know who pays the salaries. You know what they say - he who pays the piper calls the tune

Watched Insua today. He did ok (going forwards, still can't defend) against very mediocre opposition.

Question is.. Is he an overweight fat little porker or has he bulked up? He looked a little like Lou Ferrigno.

Ed you said that no bid for cissoko has been accepted so does that meen you know that we have made a bid
if so how much?

love this site {Ed009's Note - I'm not sure if I was the Ed that originally said that, but we have not made a bid yet to my knowledge.}

No it wasn't the original poster is correct his daughter got married to Tom Cates in December 2007 at Glasgow.

Phil. {Ed009's Note - Kenny Dalglish was always due to return home early from the club's tour of Asia to be present at the wedding of daughter Lynsey. Look it up.}

eds right mate, dalglish has 3 daughters, kelly is the more famous 1 because shes on tv and she got married to tom cates but he has 2 other daughters lynsey and lauren. so unfortunately his reasons for coming back had nothing to do with anything happening at LFC. Hope lynsey had a good day tho lol

Just met a French lad called Andy Cissokho.
Is this the same lad everybody's on about? This lad was about 4ft 2 inches tall with a massive arse and head, fingers the size of party sausages and bowed legs. Oh and he was of African decent.

If this fits the description of the Cissokho people are talking about then start getting excited, because he said he was in Liverpool all day yesterday

You heard it here first.

Iv cut this (i Know tut) from the liverpool fc site they say its off nesn website, strange place for it 2 be if its not got some thing in it.

Liverpool FC continues to be very aggressive in the transfer and open markets.

Goal.com reports that the Reds are on the verge of signing Aly Cissokho to a deal believed to be worth £8.7 million. A deal for the Lyon defender could be wrapped up as soon as Sunday

The U-18s have scored 14 goals in two matches - 9 of these goals have been scored by trialists - one of them named Nacho. Has anyone any idea who these youngsters are? - Nacho would indicate a Spanish or South American player.

John Henry has been particularly impressed by Alberto Aquilani and David N'Gog's performances in the pre-season and is ready to give them a chance to extend there Anfield careers. I for one would be very happy to see Aquilani stay at the club, I think he could shine if he stays free of injury, which he has done all year.

El Pistolero will destroy the defences in the EPL next season. The lad must be worth £50m with some of the prices at present.

Liverpools transfer spending is over for the summer, Insua will be given a chance to prove himself at LB and every other position is fairly well covered.

16 Jul 2011 22:39:32
Hi guys. I'll be honest and admit that I don't watch French football, so could anyone tell me a bit about Cissokho? e.g good crosser, fast, strong.

Thanks, James. {Ed002's Note - Pretty much sums him up James. He is fast and strong, young with commitment.}

16 Jul 2011 22:33:56
Liverpool might be better off not buying a new left back. This could provide a great opportionity for Robinson to prove himself just like what Kelly has done.

Hi ed, do we need to read anything into the fact we've conceeded 5 goals in 2 games? Or am I worrying too much? Tom {Ed009's Note - 4 of the goals were conceded in the last 10 minutes of each game. Its a lack of concentration and drive when the game is effectively won. I wouldn't worry about it. I do believe we need defensive reinforcements though.}

Hi Ed, I follow most sites and try to keep up to date with what going on as far as LFC developments. I just want to make a few points and pose some questions to you and fellow LFC siblings...

1. Aquilani - I have always liked this player. Always. In my view Benitez treated him poorly once he was ready. All this nonsense about him not suited to the EPL and injury prone or the fact that he wants out - in my view are plasticated views. He is a great talent. For years I have watched our opponents with players who have sublime movement "off" the ball - asking the question why is our midield so static? If you watch Aqua he does this and is a slick operator. Apart from Suarez we have no-one with this intelligence. Perhaps its is the coaching and KK will see to this - but for me Aqua has always been a class act and we have under used him - probably cos we want to flog him for 'financial loss' reasons.

2.Adam, Downing & Henderson.
Since GMac left (yes that long) we have never looked like scoring from any set pieces. SG is not as good and would be more of a threat in the box. These players not only remedy this but do bring creativity - so our reliance on SG and Suarez will now extend to these proven EPL players. Great thinking and decision making by KK and DC.

So what exactly are we missing. In my view we need a skillful dribbler, a player where opposition will fear and double up on. A bale type of player. My wish is Adam Johnson.

3. We all need to remember - yes our owners are flexing their muscles - but our position for this season is all about domestic success. So far our aquisitions are in line with this ambition. So all these talks of a Marquee signing are just talk. No big superstar is coming to Anfield unless we pay stupid wages. I seriously doubt we would do that.

Finally - question to Eds - before the window opened talks were about us signing young talented stars of the future. So why has it gone rather quiet on the following players:
Griezman, Boudebouz, Affelay, Lukaku, Canales, Bojan, Elia, Wolfswinkle.

PS - If we do sign a player of top notch quality - my choice other than Adam Johnson would be Hulk.

Please respond with your thoughts. Many thanks.
Luke Mathews

Just watched Todays game and Aquaman was class. Alonso like in his range of passing and I think last season with Juve was the making of him as he has toughened up. Please Kenny dont sell him we dont have enough of his passing range in the squad.

Reina commited to the reds on the promise of big players coming in the transfer window from DC. Expect a couple more high profile players arriving

16 Jul 2011 22:02:35
I think where Damien Comolli earns his money is them cheap young players which he filters into the acadamy done it with Clichy at Arsenal and Taarabt to Tottenham. I think apart from a deal for CISSOKHO or ENRIQUE that will be the type of deals done

Hey Eds

According to NESN and goal.com, Cissokho looks set to sign. As you already know I have expressed my admiration for Aly and it just about concludes a perfect summer in my opinion. Perhaps we could do with some cover at CB however, we have some great young players and people also seem to forget Danny Wilson is a CB, performing admirably there for Rangers a couple of seasons ago.

I was just wondering in your opinion, or anyone else for that matter, do you think we need any more signings, and if yes who?

Thanks. {Ed009's Note - I personally think that, provided we get Cissokho, the only signing we could do with is a centre back. Skrtel is a willing player, but his ability is not high enough to be our number one centre back, and Carra is getting on a little for my liking. I would like to see Dann signed. If we made the move for him, he would love to join and it would conclude a perfect summer.}

Yeah Aqua is so world class that he can't get an Italian club to fork out £12 for his services. Come on be serious He is a good passer of the ball, but he can't tackle & even worse, he hates being tackled. He certainly ain't gonna cut it when Cahill or Shawcross get at him The I
-------

Silly comment. Nobody likes being tackled. If you're a lightweight player then you are agile and more likely to evade tackles, alonso did this all the time because he read the game well. Aqua seemed to do the same last year in italy so if he can adapt to prem pace there's no reason he couldn't be a good player. As long as he is willing to wipe the slate clean and so do we he will be a good player.

Juve wanted to keep him they just wanted to short us on the price, same thing they did with aguero. Let's give aqua one season at least.

was it just me or did insua look like abit of bulldog in the match today might have done it so he can play in the pl every body says how physical it is and i for one might think twice before jumping into a 50-50 with him

Both will stay however if Sneijder eaves Inter Milan iv'e been told that they've contacted Liverpool about purchasing Meireles as a direct replacement for Sneijder Phil
----------

Inter are currently negotiating for banega to replace sneijder. They will likely sign him. I'm not sure if they will stay interested in meireles after. Their bench is light and gasperini does like meireles so maybe.

watched todays game alot of positives however showed the following players will never be good enough for lfc and certainly not good enough for a team wanting to win premiership, get rid of insua, shelvey, spearing, kyriagos, and wilson and make one new signing splash out for the best lb in premiershiop BAINES, if he was signed we would win the league with delivery from him and downing and adam the premiership is comin home

16 Jul 2011 21:14:02
All this talk saying we need a new left back....why ?? I just dont see it. Weve got Johnson, Aurelio, Robinson + Insua who has certainly improved during his loan spell.....all good players. In 12 months time Robinson will be our established LB so I dont personally see the need to buy another LB in this window....For me the priority must be a new CB

Shouldn't we be a bit worried about signing cissokho?

Why would any team sell a player at a loss unless they:

A - paid a ridiculous price and its impossible to profit ie torres, ronaldo

B - Player asked for a transfer ie modric

C - club does not think he is any good.

Now they only paid about 13m for him so its not A, he hasn't asked for a transfer so its not B. That only leaves C.
What also worries me is if aulas is willing to sell at a loss to a big spending english team he must be desperate to get rid of him. Why is the question. Any idea eds? Its very unlike aulas to do this.

Mr E {Ed009's Note - he has alienated the fans on several occasions and is perceived to be causing unrest amongst playing stuff etc. He is a very good player but it is perhaps a risk signing him. I imagine that is why the board are being so considered about making a bid, to make sure he will settle in and be an asset not a hindrance.}

16 Jul 2011 21:10:04
eds great job. I know you must get 100s of requests each day.
This is not a rumour but fact I can confirm that I saw Cissokho today...... he was playing for Lyon in a friendly match against Genk 1-3. Cissokho came on with about 20 mins left in the game. The france commentor did say that there were links in the media about him moving to abroad.
I doubt that a fee has been agreed with Lyon as they would not have risked him playing today / getting injuried.

Bastos also played.

Just finished watching the game again; Adam great buy, Aquaman can stay as I dont think anyone at this time, will pay 10million plus for him. Insua, Cole, Poulsen & Kyrgiakos have to leave (if we get any offers) We definitely need a left back and we lack pace at the back. 2 of the goals we conceded today were due to poor left back positioning. I do believe that we will be trying to sign at least one defender and its now about getting rid of the deadwood.
Eds any new developments of players leaving? keep up the good work.
Plusmarcus {Ed009's Note - There have been no developments of outgoings that I am aware of.}

16 Jul 2011 21:09:32
in my opinion we need to keep aqua an merieles, we need players that can come off the bench and make an impact on a game, we have not had anyone on our bench who can do that in a very long time, last season we must have had the worst subs in the prem which needs to change

16 Jul 2011 21:06:03
Comoli smoke screen? Saw today he said nothing lined up, KK leaves tour early to supposidly oversea the Downing arrivial but that was happening anyway in my opinion. Something else in the offing? and I dont mean Cissoko, Possibly bigger and more of a surprise perhaps.. Just a thought as KK is such a great man manager he would be perhaps trying to woo someone himself and it is a hell of a way to fly back from a big tour to just 'oversea' downings Photo's which had already been taken and his interview done while KK was in asia...

I won't have a go at any lfc player regardless of talent unless they show laziness lack of commitment or a disrespect for the club.

Carroll is a player with potential and some raw talent. He will improve but one thing he needs to work on his fitness. Last season whenever I saw him play he looked slow and laboured and that's continued into pre season. He will be a world class player once he sorts that out. If he adds kuyts workrate and stamina to his game he will be unstoppable. If he doesn't he will just be a less skillful berbatov.

Mr E

16 Jul 2011 20:58:53
How dishonest and lazy is english media.few examples of past and present:
1.rafa comes out and calmely gives facts about ferge and media brands this as rant.he is branded tinkerman where as ferge is hailed as genious for changing teams.
2.rafa gets a class player in aqua for 17m in 4 part payements and media brands aqua as 20m flop where as he never got chance at club.
3.roy is hailed as unlucky but not inept to manage our great club.
4.harry with a squad capable in both quality and quantity gets spurs to 5th but still is medias darling.
5.our transfer fees are inflated by 5m on each player reported in media to add pressure on player and made it look like we overspend.
6.they take a quote and reprint it 2 days later as new story.ex 3 days back newcatle manager states enrequie wants to play with a CL club they re run story as enrequie choose arsenal over liverpool.
Pathetic.

Glad ed your site is not like them idiots..u do great job.

Not a rumour but a comment . Although ive failed to be posted in the past not sure why , never rude etc..
The hopes of significant numbers of signings just doesnt make sense.
John Henry and all have been very clear. Its about developing a team and a stadium. To do that they need A. Time and a bit of good fortune
B. Investement and extra revenue. The stadium would help but so will developing the Asian market. DC are no mugs so if it is a rumour .. then expect a signing from that continent at some point but for now i would guess at max 2 more signings with LB being a bigger issue(not by much) than CB.
Thats it .
We then need a significant trimming of the squad . Not for extra income but to reduce the sheer size of the wage bill. All of this will happen between now and January.
So its a work in progress not the finished article.
Aim for 4th at best and its an achievement guys..

Eds, it has been fairly widely 'reported' that KD flew back to Liverpool to oversee the final stages of the Downing deal. Personally, I can't see why that would be the case, especially if DC stayed in Asia with the squad. As far as you know, is there another reason KD may have cut short the tour to return home, or was it really to oversee the Downing signing? I've checked through some previous posts and can't find anything. Apologies if you've already addressed this.

we now have a good strong first eleven and talent on the bench. we may buy a left-back but selling off some players is the priority.
i would love to see aquaman and suarez link up play with adam's driving force making for a very effective attack.
don't see the sense in selling quality players, would rather let poor players leave for minimum amounts. it is all about getting into the top 4 and recouping debts in the long run
EDs you're doing a brilliant job. Thanks for your efforts.

I thought Aquaman and Insua played really well today...and I think we should give them both a chance next season. Aquillani is truly world class and Insua has bulked up to the point where he could now handle the physical life in the EPL. His crosses were very good, and both him and Aquaman were heavily involved in 4 goal assists.

Andy Carroll will always split opinions. The only, and i mean the only, drawback to paying big fees is the pressure that comes with it.

We need to be careful. There will be many people wanting him to fail, every EFc (small c), manc and NUFc fan will be dribbling at the first hurdle Carroll doesn't jump over. Then there is the biased anti-LFC media who are also hung up over the price we paid for him.

It's going to be hard enough for him to convince us, the ones who support the team let alone people who cannot stand us. So we need to show one thing for him all season. Patience. He didn't ask for this price tag and whilst it is naive to say don't get hung up on the price tag alternatively you cannot expect him to be a £35M footballer straight away.

Jordan Henderson is already being put under pressure by the media for the price tag. Just like the media were completely anal about Rafa changing the team 99 consecutive times but made no mention of the bigger tinkering by Fergie.

If Carroll and Henderson are finding it difficult to win us over what hope have they of ever avoiding ridicule from the likes of everton and manc fans and then no doubt you'll turn into a hypocrite trying to defend them?

It is far too simplistic to look at Carroll and the price tag and look at someone like Aguero and say why, oh why didn't we buy him with the money? I think we need to give both time and don't allow quick judgments to be made and to stick.

We need to forget about the price tag because we are judging him by the tag alone. 'For £35m i'd expect him to do this and that...etc.' Let's wait to see how this new look team gels and how it operates.

Yes Carroll looks a little awkward and heavy in his movements, in a different way to what Crouch looked like. We can remember the stick he took? But we need to remember Carroll has massive improvements to be made to many aspects of his game, control, awareness, positioning etc. Let's give him this time because he is far from the finished product that his price tag might otherwise tell you.

This time last season i was not a fan of him whatsoever and didn't really take much interest, but the game at Arsenal (playing for Newcastle) he was simply sensational and i was impressed when watching him at Wolves and he made me sit up and take a little more notice.

That said, he still has a lot to do for me BUT i am quietly looking forward to a fit Andy Carroll plying his trade and more importantly a side who knows how best to play with him.

He will look awful at times, controlling the ball straight from the school of Kuyt and he will look like a big rambling forward who just seems to flick everything on with no plan in his head, however his goal against us last year and the one against City for us shows he has more ability than you would think for a 6FT 5" lump.

He will get better and better as the season goes on. He needs us, the fans who support the team, the manager and the players at the beginning of the season to help him. So do your bit. Bite your tongue and look what he is doing wrong now and see if he's slightly better in September, better in November and better still in January.

I'll say now by the end of the season he will have paid a huge chunk of that fee, injury free of course.

No one at the club has ever said we have bought the finished article. The fans think we have. And to try and judge a player in pre season is the worst thing you could do, whether they play well or not. It's all about fitness. Nothing more.

Hi eds I post quite a bit but never sign them off but I will start from now on. I just want to say that if we had signed Andy Carroll on a free would he be getting half the stick he is getting now. Give the guy a break its not his fault he cost 35m its the price that we paid it may seem like a bargin in 3 years time or it may seem like a complete waste of money but lets not judge the poor guy yet he looked a bit rusty today I agree but its pre season this is the time to look rusty lets reserve our judgements on Andy til May 11 come on redmen lets stick together and get behind our boys Dan T

Next season:
Carroll: 17 goals
Suarez: 15 goals
Gerrard: 11 goals
Adam:11 goals
Kuyt: 9 goals
Downing: 7 Goals
Aquilani: 6 goals
Meireles: 6 goals
Henderson: 4 goals

Hi eds I posted over a week ago that after the downing deal we would buy a left back. There will be no cf coming in this window and poss no other players until at least some of the expensive deadwood goes. Kuyt will be used as back up striker. Whats with everyones thing about about a marquee signing Suarez and carrol where them last window think with a few trimmings such as deggen etc then a top four and and trophy very possible. why are so eager to get rid of aqualani and meriless class players who could prove invaluable in the squad especially if we go on good cup runs. So eds do you agree and you can check my previous posts. {Ed009's Note - unless you post with a name, I have no idea which of the thousands of people who claimed we would buy a left back you are. I agree that top four is a distinct possibility.}

Sometimes my posts don't be shown - I wonder why? Anyways a guy posted earlier (which I responded too, but it wasn't posted) saying that Cissokho could be done Monday? Has something speeded up in this deal? {Ed009's Note - nothing is past the interest/enquiry stages at this time. Are you sure you are looking in the right sections? The majority of posts go to banter, with some in wishlists too.}

The Real KB, respect your opinions also. I just think that he's got a bit of a raw deal off some fans, because people think the only thing he can do is head a ball when their's much more to his game then that. And i'll stand by what i've previously stated in an earlier post, imo he will become an world beater in the next 2 seasons. When he joined Liverpool, i bet that we were the first team he's played for where he's not played with an out and out wide man since he was a youngester or whatever age/team he first started playing as a centre forward. Now we've got Downing watch this space mate. If i'm wrong i'll not happily because i want all our players to succeed, but i'll come on here and freely admit i got it wrong. Time will tell but if i do say sorry about anybody, poster or player, i very much doubt it'll be anything to do with Andy Carroll.Jonson6

just wanted to say i wish people would stop moaning at macca, he does get some wrong but he is right more times than not. he was the one in jan saying we was going to sign carrol and suarez and torres was going to leave and every one else was saying torres was stopping. we did try to sign young but he picked man u over us, and we tryed to sign enrique like he said but we are not going to overspend on a leftback who we will get for free next summer.

macca is the only one on here who is more times than not is right so leave him alone and let him give us the imformation he as with out get slated for it.

Eds, Not really a rumour, I was wondering how would you rate our dealings in the
Transfer window so far? spent about £34mil surely KD and DC must be looking
to bring in a LB and a CB since we were interested in Clichy, Enrique etc why the sudden
No need for a LB? {Ed009's Note - I'm very happy with our progress. Personally I believe we will sign a left back. We made an enquiry for Cissokho about a week back and he is now without a doubt available. The only doubt is whether he will alienate our fans in the same way as he has Lyon's.}

16 Jul 2011 19:04:57
I can't see the need for any more offensive players, unless of course we sell a few.I still think we need to strengthen the defence.The young lads will do us proud in the yrs to come and will be able to step in like they did last yr. Agger hasn't played a full season since he arrived.Carra is not the Carra of old.Insua doesn't Know when to tuck in.Steve Clarke might be able to help with this one. Insua and Aqualani may have impressed Kenny so far, I would keep them both on todays performance, as they played well today.

Hi Macca and Eds, I red the other day, that DC said we are now virtually done in the transfer market. I know it is impossible to 2nd guess, and I agree with you all that things change in the market (for reasons that we will never be privvie too). Do you beleive this is it?+

I think we need a good experienced lb (left footer ideally) to support downing on the left, and i think a CB is needed to provide cover for skrtel and agger (the young one we have look good but need some 1st football behind them and carra is too old now i think). The one thing we are also missing, is a good support striker if carroll or suarez is injured, or would you think that kuyt will be pushed back up front now?

Thanks for your insight and comments, great reading, even some of the ridiculous comments make you smile

hey ed,
what do u make of john henry saying that aquilani and ngog should stay?
he praised them on twitter...
is it a tactic of some kind to ship them off :)
i dont seriously think that he can praise them just from seeing them after a couple of matches (against poor opposition) and consider keeping them our new owners just dont work that way from all what we hear of them
what do u think? {Ed009's Note - I am not so sure. Aquilani would stay without a doubt if he wanted to at all - he has a lot of ability and we would only make a small amount on his sale - so it could be a tactic from Henry to make him feel wanted. With regards to N'Gog, It could be one of two things for him: they are either trying to drum up interest or they know we won't be buying another striker so need to keep him, and are making the fans and the player feel better about that.}

And Johnson6,
I wouldn't go over-board on your praise for Andy Carroll mate.
Yes he's got potential and is a big lump.
But the same could be said for Carlton Cole 4 or 5 years ago.
You can instantly tell a Liverpool player mate, they just fit right at home instantly. Charlie Adam looks like he's got it.
I can't say the same for Andy Carroll tbh mate.
Kenny said he signed him for the next 3 years, so I am witholding my judgement for a while yet.
And he could make a start by staying off the ale as well.
I'm not an Andy Carroll hater by any means, but he's got a lot to do..

To Macca - Why is everyone jumping on your back, you obviously get some inside information and you don't have to share it with anyone if you don't wish. I think most of the people on here are just feeling a bit down hearted because you haven't came out and said we're signing Aguero or Mata or Kaka etc.

I for one would prefer some inside information as and when you get it regardless of whether it is 100% definite at least it's on the right lines. As you say things do change and you can't possibly know if circumstances are going to change at the last minute and I would prefer do read your latest news once a week than all of the dreamers out there who think we're going to sign all of the best foreign players ever.

People are also forgetting that we are staying true to being British at the moment and keeping plenty of home grown talent in our squad which I for one applaud.

Can you remember the ridiculous amounts of money spent on players from abroad that never cut it in the prem. Let's just trust the new owners and trust in Kenny and Damien and the rest of the back room staff. It seems all of the team is buzzing and can't wait for the season to start so let's get behind them all (Macca and the Eds included)

Keep it up the good work guys, I think most of us are 100% behind you :-)

Shouldn't have used an expletive to the post when replying to you mate, sorry for that. Eds and fellow Reds,
Considering that City are after Aguero and Nasri, Chelsea are being liked with anyone valued between 20 and 50 million, United already having signed players and linked with other great ones like Snider...

Do you feel that THIS window, which was supposed to hold so much hope for us fans... what with promises of a Marquee signing and all... has been, well, underwhelming for us fans? was Downing the marquee signing?

and then we have DC coming on and saying that Downing is the missing link for us

and the owners coming out to praise Aquilani (who doesn't want to play for LFC) and Ngog (who is nearly not good enough for us)

What is going on man? are we going to be a mid-table club? don't say we are being responsible man because that would be like saying that City, Man Utd and Chelsea are STUPID clubs...which just isn't true.

and All we are doing is questioning city's spending and sponsorship? why are we even complaining? i think the FA and UEFA should deal with this... surely this is not OUR problem? shouldn't we be worrying about adding REAL value to our squad and NOT furthering some kind of sick obsession with halfway good British players? it worked in the 80's... it probably won't work now... because even Englishmen know that English footballers are just not the same

Please give me something...anything..and do post this...
a very worried red. {Ed009's Note - no I don't. I think it as good as anyone could sensibly have expected. The aim this year is to return to the top four, and make your fancy marquee signings from then.}

Have to say that anyone who thinks we don't need a LB need their heads looking at.
Yes, GJ can cover there adequately and, yes, the young lads can do so likewise, if on a more temporary basis.
My assertion, however, stems from fears of Kelly's hamstring problems. For a young player to pull up like he did at West Ham last season, causes me to fear that he will suffer more of the same in the future.
Anyone who's played sport will recognise that dodgy hamstrings are a recurrent injury. Owen's had problems, Nando, loads more.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelly go down with it again this season.
Shame but true.

Think we may see KK tinkering with the team line-up this year..we have a deep enough squad, and enough options to play almost any formation.

I personally think that is why we have made the additions we have, KK realised last year that to beat teams who will generally sit 10 men behind the ball, we will need attacking width in the channels and behind the full backs, hence we may see Glen Johnson as a more accustomed wing back, incidentally with Downing playing as a natural winger, hugging touchline, it would allow Johnson to play LB and come inside onto his favoured right foot.
Kelly I think will be starting RB, or one of 3 x CB's if the situation dictates it. I would be surprised if we outlay big money on LB, as Robinson really just needs another years development, he will then step straight into starting line up. We have enough competition providing Aurelio can stay fit, and Insua isn't sold..if he is, we may invest in an experienced LB to help mentor Robinson.

If we do play 442 we will see GJ playing RM, or Henderson I feel, although he will be groomed along with Jonjo as the heir apparent to Stevie G.

Truthfully the options are endless with the aquisitions we have made, and the current squad, plus some exciting youth coming through we are going to see some exciting football this season.

hi ed, just said on talksport that torres missed an easy open goal for chavski, then head went down and played like he did last season, do you think he really wants to be at chelsea, or he thinks he may have made a mistake, i would have thought that after a good rest he would be like a new player, but app not,
hope he plays like that all season, thx for the 50m, 19 here we come, jimmybosun {Ed002's Note - I think he will be fine - it'll probably help once Chelsea have gotten their transfers out of the way and he has a clearer idea who he will be playing with.}

With regards to inside information, Macca has probably made the bravest predictions that have come to fruition. In terms of opinions and objectivity, Jonson6 and Irish Kev are up there. Blair Mayne is a little less unbiased perhaps, but makes for an entertaining read. There are honestly too many to mention, but I would suggest anyone who signs their posts immediately garners a degree of respect. I recommend you do too in future.}

Personally i think it would be a great thing to do in thanks for not only coming in and rescuing the club from the clutches of well..those two..... but also doing things the liverpool way since he and his team have come in , in action more so than words, and most of all for bringing the king back. Its probably rare to hear fans chanting the owners name , for example; i doubt there are that many positive glazer songs not to do it to be different but because we are a United club again (sorry, couldnt think of a better word) .I would love to know what people , including the eds think of this idea. ynwa (sorry for such a long post)

hi all , in my opinion we do not need any more players, except maybe a natural LB, otherwise we are pretty much sorted. Reina, Kelly(RB) cover Flanny(could do LB), CB Between The usual suspects Carra, Skirt, Kyriagakos, Agger, midfielders overload, my choice Adam in middle Conducting, Aquaor lucas alongside, Downing Left side , Glen J Right side (my opinion ) AC And Suarez up top what you think?

Jonson6, mate, thanks for the kind words (and to others who have said kind things today many thanks). I'm really sorry if I've got you riled pal because believe me I'm not a Carroll hater by any means. I believe he has masses of raw talent and, as I said earlier, you make many valid points about his abilities. My only concern is that I saw Scharner (who let's face it is no great shakes) more than match him in 2 games last season and that just stops me from going too overboard about how good Carroll is. That said I hope it was only for the reasons you pointed out lack of fitness/ sharpness etc. Trust me I think he can be great and I hope he will I only wanted to keep a level head. Hope this calms you as we should all be together on here.
Thanks

OMG. just been on a LFC forum site and they're saying 'play GJ at LB and our problems solved' or words to that effect. Once again for the love of god can't people see sense? Play GJ RB or RM END OF

I will bet anybody any money that if GJ plays LB next season and he comes up against a good RW, i.e. Valencia, A Johnson et al, he will get turned inside out and upside down. Then fans will, unfortunately, get on his back and his game will suffer.

Steve Clarke has improved his game enormously at RIGHT BACK and that's where he should stay. Try him at RM by all means as I've said before I think he'd be excellent.

Footballs not a hard game especially if you put the best players in their best positions.

For the love of god let this talk of Aly Cissokho be true.

If Glen Johnson is our great hope at LB then I'm off to make the beast with two backs with Kelly Brook cos you're all dreaming and I feel left out......

Is it just me but I have to disagree with comments regarding J.Cole's. He's time is up, he simply is not the same player as he was with Chelsea. Please move him on and save on the wage bill - Agree? {Ed009's Note - I think it is important we keep one or two of Aquilani, Meireles and Cole. If we can get 15 million for Meireles and just 3 for Cole, then perhaps it make sense to retain the latter.}

Rumors continue to persist around the possible capture of Lyon left back Aly Cissokho by Liverpool. Liverpool know all to well how effective Cissoko can be when they took on his Lyon team in the group stages of the CL in 09/10 season, Liverpool s Stalwart Carragher and great Dane Agger enduring a difficult night.

On that occasion Cissokho proved a menacing figure and overlapped well with Makoun delivering potent and telling crosses for his attackers to thrive on. Lopez and Govo wasted many guilt edged opportunities that night but substitute Delgado eventually netted as later did Govo., painfully turfing the reds out of Europe s elite competition.

They 23 year old endured an indifferent season last year causing him unrest at his current club, but Lyon wish to keep him and wont let him leave without a fight. Lyon Coach Remi Garde, is quoted in France s L Equipe,

Aly is an important player to us and we wish him to stay, but if an offer came to us that fitted the chairman s plan, then he may leave the club

The effective left back was a target for Man City, but with the signature of Cilchy all but ended their interest. Roma and the giants of Turin Juventus are also reportedly interested. Liverpool need to find a replacement for the aging and injury prone Aurelio and provide depth and competition for the young left backs.

The youngster nearly signed for Milan several years back but interestingly failed a medical due to a problem with his teeth. If you see some of the generous overbites and pearly nashers in the Red s current squad then I m sure he ll fit right in.

Charlie Adam without doubt the signing of the season for the fee. He's added an instant attack minded dimension to our play with his ability to find the cutting pass at will.

Aquaman may have looked good in the second half but he was given time on the ball and the pace of the game suited him. I still don't think he'll cut it in the premiership.

Insua up to his usual ball watching mindset. His positional sense is akin to sunday league. He will be a massive laibility if he gets the nod this season and could cost us vital points with his lack of awareness.

Robinson, in my opinion isn't ready yet. He needs easing in to the first team and has to work on his first touch and learn when not to committ himself.

The jury remains out for me on Carroll. Granted an expensive signing but thats by the by. As things stand I feel he should be used as an impact player here and there with Kuyt and Suarez given the starts up front. Kuyt shouldn't be played on the right as he's non-effective. Either play him up front or put him on the bench.

The Greek should be no where near the first team, massive liability. Good in the air and thats it.

In a nutshell, we still need a left back and centre half and we have a squad to push for the Title. However, I do believe the transfer activity is over so these remaining weak areas may prove to have a negative impact as the season unfolds and could be the slim difference between winning the title and finishing just shy of the top four.

Chris in Tamworth, no s**t mate mate, not that it matters to anyone but i thought you were in the top 5 of sensible posters on this site mate. I dont need to explain his performance of him at West Brom against Scharner, but because its you i'll try my best. First game for Newcastle thought it was a good battle with him, second game clearly wasn't fully fit. But the match he was fully fit was against City, with their best defensive record and played against Kompany who's easy in the top 5 centre halves in the Prem and gave him a torrid time. Just wonder who you'd rather have then, in the 2 centre halves mentioned, sounds like Scharner to me.A wee bit of Selective memory syndrome kicking in me thinks Chris.Jonson6

Ed what you think of John Henry's comments on twitter about Aqua and Nogog..It seems both are staying below are quotes from him..

'One missing link last year: Acquilani (sic), ' Henry wrote on Twitter.

'Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it's going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.'

what other Reds think..Nogog as 4th choice striker and aqua as replacement for Raul if he is sold..

16 Jul 2011 15:29:35
Now Liverpool have got there main targets, ( Adam, Henderson, Downing ) there is going to be no rush for more signing.. They will look at a left back option. With the likes of Cissokho, Vargas, Enrique. But Insua has looked good in pre-season and Robinson is coming up well. Plus Auerilio is coming back well to fitness. Dont be surprised if a left back doesnt come in.. A centre back is more likely. Kenny is keen on Dann. But again with the likes of Wilson and Kelly. Only if a respectable fee can be found will Daglish go in for him. If N'Gog or Pacheco leave a back up striker will be brought in. Jeffren does look quite likely as he can be placed across the front and is going for cheap. No Higuain, No Johnson, Definatley no Aguero Theres no point saying we're signing him 100%. Cause even Kenny isnt 100% sure on all of these. They are his targets. Nothing more for now.

8 million for Aly Cissoko that is hilarious what people are saying He is worth over double that...can't see us signing any left back because i think kelly will play right back and keep johnson at left back because he likes flying down the wing and cutting in and having a shot. Ed how much do you think Aly Cissoko is worth because the prices i here are ludicrous.

Left back has been a priority even before the summer. you can not rely on a right footed player for a left back unless he is Maldini or Zamrotta. so we can't rely on Johnson. Insua is still struggling with his weight and defending. so he will be leaving. at the end of the market clubs will come to get our deadwoods. so the best scenario i see happening will be, we buy a left back soon. cissokho or vergas (Aquillani deal). then we will try to sell or loan as many deadwoods as possible. if there is a room in the salary budget for another Striker/winger we will buy one at the very end of the market. We have still enough center backs to do the job.

Why did Juve not decide to sign Aquilani?

Maybe they want to look for a better player at a better price?

We paid in the region of 20mil for the Italian and he has hardly kicked a ball for us. If we had to sell him we won't get more than 10mil for him which brings me back to the part how stupid it was getting rid of Alonso and signing an injured player. Mistake of note...

I reckon Alberto Aquilani is staying for this season if you go off what John Henry says on twitter. I think it will more than likely be Meireles and Poulson to be sacraficed. If those players can raise £15mil then we should re-invest that money in for left back and a right winger.

KK DC AN ARE OWNERS are still going for player's.An the way we are going about doing it is spot on old school lfc thats the ways we know when told, harry rednipp must hate it now cos in the past every player we were linked with in he come NO MORE fella. no mucking about get the players in no bidding wars they come in an game over, on to the next now please let are next player in be DANN class ed who do u think it will be ? i am so happy with the new lfc players that have come in happy days. A VERY HAPPY jay essex red for life red till dead {Ed001's Note - I think it will be a left back next.}

Can I just say, Ed's I appreciate what you do and everything. However I am slightly puzzled as to when Aquilani made comments/made it known that he does not want to come back here. Against both Guangdong and Malaysia XI, he has worn the shirt with pride and has put in two good performances, this morning he was hands down our best player. I think any player who is forced out the club and replaced by Poulsen of all f***ing players would want to leave, is it not just a case of motivating the player and welcoming him back into the team? Sorry if I come across too abrupt, I am trying to be nonchalant about the matter :) {Ed001's Note - he was not forced out to be replaced by Poulsen, I don't know where you got that nonsense from.}

16 Jul 2011 14:44:24
Hello Eds i know this is not a rumour but i strongly believe the only thing we lack now is pace up front, for when we need to counter attack towards the end of matches if we are leading.... Someone like Elia maybe? or someone of that type?
Pace scares teams and we are crying out for a pacey attacker, a great plan B weapon to have.
What are your thoughts on this? {Ed001's Note - every team needs pace, but I would rather not be buying players purely for the last few minutes of a match.}

16 Jul 2011 14:43:11
Hey Ed, can you tell me who played well and who didn't perform in the match today, got caught up with some work.

RenegadeRed {Ed001's Note - in my opinion in the first half Meireles and Cole were terrible, but the rest of the team played fairly well, though Carroll had no service whatsoever he did keep their whole backline occupied. If only anyone else had got in the box, and Meireles and Cole hadn't been so poor, we could have had a few as we dominated the first. In the second half Aquilani stood out head and shoulders above anyone else, though his ability has always been excellent so it was never going to be an issue in a friendly which lacks in real physicality.}

16 Jul 2011 14:36:38
aqualani was man of match today and i agree with all the other posters i would love him to stay but all the people who are saying they cant believe liverpool are trying to sell him might have to realise that he may have told KD that he wants to go, i dont pretend to know whats been said between aqua and kenny but IF he has said he wants to go then there is no point in trying to keep him no matter how good he looked today and liverpool arent selling him because they dont rate him or dont want him its because he doesn't want liverpool. If the situation is different and he does want to stay then fantastic we have another quality player in our squad, i for 1 hope he does stay but if he doesnt then liverpool are selling him for the right reasons

16 Jul 2011 14:36:24
Dis has really started to f***in grate with me now. Why when a guy thats at least 6ft3 looks sloppy when a rare pass goes astray, anyone else and it would have just been a misplaced pass. I dont think some fans still appreciate what a gone player Carroll is and how lucky ye are to have him. No centre half fancy's playing against him, he's a f***in handful for anyone, who won a pen today, dubious but seen em given for things like that before and played quite well i thought. I love Suarez as a player and his charater determination and skill. Like every Liverpool fan does, but for all his brilliance last season he slashed at a quite a few shots that went high wide and handsome. But because its our new hero, mine included i might add, his errors although few and far between are over looked completley. Disagree, everyones has a right to an opinion but Carroll is a much better all round footballer then given credit for, who's still learning his craft, that quite a few fans have given him credit for. Look what a fully fit Carroll did to us when we played the up at St James's park. To feet, chest and head, first touch immaculate. He won the free kick for the first goal that he leaped high above our defence to knock it down for Nolan. Lucas got a lot of s**t for not closing him down for the third goal but i'd put my last pound that he invited the shot it was so far out. Dont think anybody knew of Carrolls cannon then but we know now. Please appreciate he did not asked to be transfered for 35mil. But he was and know we've got a f***in monster who i belive will become the best Centre Forward in the Prem if not Europe, a big statement but totally belive by he's 25 no one will be able to touch him. He wasn't bought to go past 2 or 3 players with step overs and s**t. We'll leave the dribbling to Suarez and Downing. Suarez and Carroll are the best partnership in Prem bar none, just please lets judge Carroll when fully fit, talking about general fitness not knocks or injuries and then we'll judge him, fairly.Jonson6

Afternoon Eds and all,

Judging from what I saw of Aquamans performance today, we have to keep him. He has been injury free and played some very sweet passes. Move Miereles on and get the cash as Aqua looked classy. He was not smiling much though considering he set up a few goals

Eds what's your opinion on this? No suitors for him yet either

Thanks and I really appreciate your site and hard work.

lucas for me should be one of the 1st names on the team sheet, he is tearing up the midfield for brazil his tracking back and patroling in front the back four has been outstanding,
for those that still dought lucas need to hang there head in shame
we need to start backing all the players that wear the red shirt.

Analysis of second half performances.
Hansen - Showed inexperience by flapping at crosses but good shot stopping.
Kelly - Looked tired throughout and exposed alot.
Soto - Poor as usual.
Wilson - Reading of the game was poor, never looked like the player he can be.
Insua - Got forward well and looked tidy, not tested defensivley.
Poulsen - Never once tracked back and passing was poor.
Aquilani - Nice neat passing and worked hard suprisingly.
Shelvey - Work ethic was poor, decent passing, needs to show more effort.
Ngog - Decent running and good finishing, looks poor before the goals.
Maxi - Goods when in the middle but lacked positioning on the left.
Kuyt - Neat, hard working and commited, great leader.
Man of the half - Aquilani

Didn't see the game, but from what I can gather Carroll still has a way to go. Just out of interest, seeing as he seems to be the focal point of our attack, how many goals would he have to score for him to have had a good season? And yes I know he will be used to provide assists with knock downs, holding the ball up etc. But goals mean prizes so come on people, how many goals for Chewbacca to have had a good season?

P.s. Chewbacca is an affectionate term....

My take on the players of the first half.
Jones - Didn't have much to do.
Flanagan - Solid in the tackle, showed fatigue towards the end of the half
Carra - Committed and kept the defense organised
Agger - hardly noticed, started play from the back.
Robinson - Same as flanno
Adam - Good passing, maybe looks for the hollywood pass abit too much.
Spearing - Worked ahrd and passing was good.
Coady - Kept the ball well and tracked back.
Meireles - Looked lost and didn't do much.
Cole - Looked sharp, created chances and looked to turn the defenders.
Carroll - Lazy for most, showed glimpses of talent but that was it.
Man of the half - Adam/Robinson

Aquilani did do a good job today but compare the size of our players to the Malaysian players...

Will Aquilani out last 38 matches against players from the EPL? We will have to wait and see where he fits in KD's plans, that is if he does make it past this transfer window...

Enjoyed games and agree Aquilani played well. I am sure KK and Clarke would get the best out of him. I would like to see him given another season to see if he can cut it in premiership if he wants to stay. There is players that need to be moved on before him.

Ngog he is frustrating after a performance like that he looks more than a 5 million pound player but question is can he do that on regular basis.

Anyhow I am optimistic for next season. What a difference 12 months make

Hi ed and all fans I have a question ed please, why does Aquilani want to leave? it would be a shame because I thought he played alright today and gave us creativity in the malaysia game, thanks.hibsylfc {Ed002's Note - He never settled at Liverpool and was unhappy - hence the loan back to Italy and attempts to sell him. Much was probably down to him arriving as an injured player and never becoming integrated with the team.}

I don't have any sources as i live in Kent but the one thing ive been saying (to my credit) is KEEP AQUILANI and he has a great 45 minutes and everyone is praising him even though a couple of hours ago you wanted him out the door. Just Saying :) I have also said if you look at his statistics from his first season with us he done very well he made plenty of assists and a couple of goals even though he was injured

That is all

Why sell Aqua, I have actually rated him from day one and always complained when rafa left him out the team and never gave him a chance. He played great according to some posters in the pre season match so why sell him, we are in need of more technical players as we havent bought any this year, but if we keep him I believe he willl be almost like a new signing. He is just what we need in my opinion.Red Prince

John Henry tweeted this:
'Missing link last season: Aquilani. Put the ball near Ngog, and its going in the goal. Too much talk of them going elsewhere'.

Aquilani, yes, he is a top drawer squad player and always a great option to have.

But Ngog, although a lovely guy, just a liability, and we dont have the luxury of waiting for him to develop further.

I hope KK gets his way and he goes out on loan or is sold. The lad simply doesn't have the all round game for a top four side, not by a long way.

16 Jul 2011 13:42:29
Insua looks like he has lost a lot of the podginess he used to carry and has in fact beefed up a lot Looked very strong, quick and got forward well and delivered some telling croses.

Aquilani looked class, but I thought he did for the odd time he got some game time in his first season. He supposedly wants out still, so there's no point in keeping him. If he does stay, then all well and good. We will have a player to providea few more unlocks next season.

Ngog. I still struggle with what to make of him. At times he looks absolute world class and times he looks like he doesn't know what a football is (and often they are moments in the same match and normally not that far apart either).

Shelvey was pretty good - don't know why he's getting knocked for his performance.

Cole is looking trim now and he's another one like Aquilani. If he stays, then we could have another player in the team to provide unlocks. If he goes, then fair enough.

Adam was class. Vision, passing and composure we haven't had since Alonso.

Spearing - adequate performance today.

Poulsen - please give him a free transfer Even offer money to another club to take him off our hands.

Meireles - didn't look interested at all today.

Just a quick question - where's Kenny? No pics of him at Melwood to greet Downing.

all this talk of keeping insua he is not good enough for the premier league and never will be

16 Jul 2011 13:57:43
Not too sure why it seems that Left Back is a priority. We have Robinson, Aerelio, Insua, Johnson and Flanagan can play there and Agger and Wilson have also played there. Right back we have Johnson, Kelly and Flanagan. Centre Back in my opinion should be the priority as Agger has had his injury problems, The Greek is too slow, Carra is not getting any younger and Skirtel's form has been a bit up and down. Dann is the man?

Cautious about Aqualini and Ngog as they can look good against lowly opposition but when it comes to the EPL hard grind they have been found very lacking. Lets play them against Hull next week and see how they fair

16 Jul 2011 13:40:39
Liverpool should now concentrate on defend only from wat i see our mid is crowded and for forward we have pacheco and ngog for backup...unless ngog is sold and for mid cole poulsen and jovanovic and lucas to be sold...i hope liverpool could get kjaer, dann, cissokho and richard

16 Jul 2011 13:33:22
I just read Downings comments on joining the club. Very encouraging stuff. In the signings Kk has made, they have been lads coming out saying they only wanted to play for Liverpool. Maybe these players will give that little bit extra on the pitch. Good work kenny

liverpools problem of going forward is sorted just need concentrate on the defense now.

Wilson is hopeless As was Kyrgiakos.

Carroll is SOOO lazy and unmotivated...All he offers us is height and that's the truth

Ngog completely outclassed him in the 2 friendlies, scoring 5 goals, with only 3 standing :) He offers more as a player than Carroll. And his control and passing is great.

Insua, Aqualani, Ngog, Adam and Robinson were very impressive and a joy to watch Hope we hold onto those 1st 3

Also it would be very unwise to sell BOTH Aqua and Meireles...That just sucks the depth out of us. Unless we are bringing someone in of course.

Aquilani has to stay, he is head and shoulders above most the players in our squad, nearly out done alonso today nearly fromm his own half, unbelievable player, should be in our starting11, carroll looks very very poor. in kk i trust. YNWA

Hi Eds, I would like to give my personal opinion on how the match went and I would like to give my opinion on all of the seasons games if that is OK with you.

Man of the Match:

1st Half: Probably Adam because he scored the penalty and played a lot of adventurous passes and looked lively; even though he gave away a FK for the goal.

2nd Half: Without doubt Aquaman because he was insert delightful passes and was involved in all of the goals, I know people talk about Adam's passing but Aqua is just as good if not better and I now see why he cost £20m because of his ability.

Flop of the Match:

1st Half: Carroll as his control was poor and he made not much of an attempt to get involved; he was isolated and rather than try to come deep he stayed up. There were some glimpses of him when he took the ball down and held the ball up really well at some points.

2nd Half: It is a toss up between Shelvey, Hansen and Poulsen. Shelvey was very poor and just tries to shoot from far out but it is wasteful, however he did track back more than game 1. Hansen had a few good saves but was fault for 2 goals, one he flapped and failed and the other I felt he could have done better at. Poulsen was pretty crap, tried to play well but wasn't good enough, he was not as good as against the first team (not even attempting to spell).

That is my summary of the match and if it gets good reviews I would do it every week, but only if people want me to.

16 Jul 2011 13:07:47
aquaman was brilliant today.liverpool should keep him and get rid of joe cole and poulson.all we need is a solid left back and a centre half.we in south africa loved to watch the red machine roll on.number 19 isnt far away.roll on you reds. sa red

16 Jul 2011 13:07:40
looking at the signings we have made the battling centre mid options are plentiful even if poulsen goes, but the creative centre mid/attacking mid is also quite juicy and just putting it out there i would probably rather have aquilani than meireles in the team/squad.... what dya wrekon?

Aquaman, if you are reading this (i wonder if any LFC players read this site) - please stay. Your vision and decision making, together with your one touch passing is what we need as KK is trying to play patient "possession" football. David Silva is probably even less physically equiped, but he's doing well at citeh.

BREAKING NEWS..Liverpool owner John W Henry on twitter...."One missing link last year: Acquilani. Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it's going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else."

I know your thoughts on them and how they should both be on the move. My question is..Do you think an owner, in this case John Henry, would trump his manager/executives and scupper their moves and try to force playing time? Its one thing to be excited about their on field exploits but it will lead to some awkward questionings if they are both out the door next week, spend a season on the bench.

16 Jul 2011 12:56:13
we bought aquilani to fill the void alonso left but now adam fills that void and aquilani brings something else that weve missed technical passing and through balls that we we need.

16 Jul 2011 12:55:44
I know it was only a Malaysian team but Aqualani was different class. If he can transfer that form into the Premiership then that would be a tremendous boost for Liverpool. Conversely of course, he could have just nudged a few teams into trying to buy him now with that performance

16 Jul 2011 12:53:20
Having watched both pre season friendlies, I would argue that we should keep hold of aqua..he has looked really sharp, strong and has passed the ball beautifully, raul on the other hand looked disinterested and sluggish..what you think ed?
Ballina Red {Ed002's Note - I expect Aquilaini will leave.}

16 Jul 2011 12:51:44
insua has really staked a claim to be kept this year at least, and with robinson comign through aswell i see it as a bit of a waste of money to buy another young lb and therefore think we will either buy an experiencedlb to mentor or not buy one at all.
with regard to cb, this clearly needs to be improved, but not as urgently as stated by others as with lb being filled we can have johnno and flanno on the right bringing kelly into cb (his favoured position)
and with macca saying no more signings are goign to be made, this seems a distinct possibility. however i still believe we need another winger now or in jan if we are goign to challenge for major trophies

16 Jul 2011 12:51:24
After watching the match there, we have to keep Aqua man. He was by far our best player. David Ngog and Insua also played very well. Ed do u think KK will look at this match and consider his options?

16 Jul 2011 12:51:14
Just watched the match, very impressed with Aqualani. I know we have to get rid of some deadwood, but i wouldn, t class Aquaman in that catagory. I know he will have the biggest transfer fee out the lot and we do need to recoup some money back after how much we, ve spent, and the squad is too big with big earners at the mo, but i think Aqua should stay. To go i would like, Maxi, Poulsen, Cole, Insua, Jovananic, Ngog, Shelvey ( loan ).

16 Jul 2011 12:50:54
I thought Liverpool were very good in the second half I watched today, and I cannot cannot comment on the first half because i was asleep ;)
Aquilani was very good and controlled the midfield, and created two goals with his great vision. He could be an important player for us next season.
Ngog was extremely frustrating at the beginning, but then scored two goals so we can forgive his mistakes
Insua showed us why we should keep him with a good performance
But i thought our defence needs to be sorted out after conceding 6 goals in two games

Thanks,
YoungRed

Aquilani is the real Xabi alonso replacement. he has just given the biggest hint of that. Master class. Kenny please, please please don't sell him.
Also Insua seems to be a good foil for Lb as he can put carroll, some very decent crosses alongside Downing. But Aqua is just the best. Minimum fee must be 30million pounds for him. he is the best, we have in Cm apart from Gerrard.

16 Jul 2011 12:38:29
No need to buy a left back insua looks in great shape also we need to try and hang on to aqua man

Shelvey for me is rubbish, never rated him, he is a big time Charlie who will fade to obscurity in time

16 Jul 2011 12:41:11
what we can see from today is shelvey is slow and rubbish, wilson is slow and rubbish, kyriakos is too slow and rubbish, maxi isnt a left winger, insua is slow. we need to keep aquilani if he wants to stay, the guy is class better then charlie adam with his passing ability. we need to get rid of these rubbish players and bring in a strong quick cb & lb and i would be worried if kenny didnt think we need a right winger, who we gona play there kuyt? or henderson? henderson hasnt got the pace for right wing more suited to cm. Aqualani looks a class act in front of a diamond formation. I know he want's to go, but we shouldn't sell him on the cheap.I have always said our defence is our weak link and nothing as changed.We still need a top class centre back and a solid left back.Jiminy Cricket

Hopefully sign Enrique, Cissoko, Dann for defenders as the defensive side have been terrible in the second half against malaisia and I would keep ngog for backup striker as he's done well in pre season and also aqualani has done well also :)

16 Jul 2011 12:35:54
tbh i would perfer Aqualiani to Meireles, Merieles looked quite sloppy today and while i understand it was his first pre season game i feel we would get more money for Meireles but i also feel that Aqua will fit well into kennys side and would be a better squad player

I say get rid of...
Meireles - 12M
Cole - 2M
Jova - Free
Poulson - 2M
Jones - Free

For around 16M and that could provide us with the money to go after Cissokho/Enrique & a centre back.

Also get rid of Hansen he's been so bad in both the pre season games conceding 4 late goals :/

What about you ed who would you perfer to keep between Aqualiani & Meireles?

Robo {Ed002's Note - I expect both to leave.}

16 Jul 2011 12:48:49
John W Henry latest tweet calls Aquilani the missing link and says there is too much talk of Alberto & Ngog going elsewhere. On Aquilani, I have to agree. Don't pin your hopes on a lot of additional signings, rightly or wrongly, reckon Scott Dann will be the last one. High hopes for new season, DC

16 Jul 2011 12:47:25
Aquilani has been Liverpool's best player by a mile this pre-season. With Henry stating on Twitter 'he was our missing link last yr' good chance he could be staying next season? We'd be mugs if we sold him on the cheap in the current inflated market

16 Jul 2011 12:47:23
Ed
Macca is felow red but I sincearly hope he is wrong and we atleast sign 3 more players LB, CB and a striker cum winger like in mould of mata who can play behind striker and also on wings.I agree with all we have signed 4 class players needed for team but we need more to qualify for champions league.kenny is super managr but at the end of day he needs right tools for the job and a realist will know more is needed.
Red till dead.

Ps:ed what's your thought on defence in todays freindly as it is defence on which titles are won. {Ed001's Note - Soto is clearly not good enough and Wilson has so far failed to live up to expectations.}

16 Jul 2011 12:47:18
we would be stupid to sell aqualani, you all talk how he doesnt want to play here, have watched him in the 2 friendlys, he is playing better than everyone else. if i had a choice between miereles and aqua, aqua all day

16 Jul 2011 12:46:51
good match, thought it was gonna end up 4-3 again.lol. pity aquaman doesn't want to play for us because i thought he was very very good today, nearly all the chances came from him and his neat touches. good alround performance today well done to the team.

Hi Ed's

Imo we would be mad to let Aquaman go..he is showing now that when fully fit what a quality player he is..and to let him go for 12-14mill...could u replace him for that sort of money..i dont think so.

16 Jul 2011 12:46:41
just watching the game Aqualini running the game full of clever touches and through balls.... could Kenny get him to do it in the rough and tumble of the prem? (what do u think ed?) {Ed001's Note - not unless he wants it and he doesn't. His ability has never been in doubt.}

16 Jul 2011 12:46:28
A good work-out for the squad. They will have felt that last 20 minutes playing in that humidity. It's hard to read to much into friendlies especially when half of them are up for sale but that Aquilani - that is some player, outstanding vision. Can't understand why teams aren't queueing up to put offers in for him.

One missing link last year: Acquilani. Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it's going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.

16 Jul 2011 12:45:25
Some of us fans are twisting the eds words. The eds are simply saying that Aqua prefers Italy over the Premiere League. Why keep a player that doesn't want to be here. If a decent offer comes in we'll listen.

16 Jul 2011 12:31:38
hey people.............
great to see aqua showing he can be quality for us with his passing and through balls..

but for godsake.............i know its pre-season but we need to sort our bloody defence out...jeez

2 goals for n'gog in preseason, maybe we don't need an extra striker with Kuyt & N'gog as back ups to Suarez & big Andy.
Insua should be given another season too, he's looking good since coming on at half time. Aquaman too, nice ball for N'gog's second.

16 Jul 2011 12:19:46
Is it me or has David N'Gog looked miles ahead of Andy Carroll in terms of quality at this point in pre season?

This is not so much a 'transfer' rumour, but more a 'tactics' rumour. One of my close friends is head football writer for a major UK publication (I can reveal who to eds should they ask) who has close sources close to the club; this info effectively comes from Carragher directly.

Basically, Kenny's signings are designed to set us up to play in two quite distinct ways whether we're at home or away. Carroll and Adam will be mainly used at Anfield where most teams come to defend and hit on the counter. Adam will sit deep and control play and Carroll will park himself on the last defender causing nuisance, creating space for Suarez et al and no doubt snaffling a few chances himself.

Away from home, Lucas and Kuyt (in a striker role) will be the key players as Kenny feels we will need more energy to harry the ball be more defensively disciplined. We will look to Suarez and Kuyt continue their high-energy relationship up top (a la Fulham last season).

Of course, I am not saying that Carroll/Adam will never play away from home, but expect to see Carroll influencing the game from the bench on most occasions and Adam will play a very different role than at Anfield, should he start over Henderson. For those who doubt that this could work - look at how Ferguson used Berbatov last season. Wasn't it 18 of his 21 goals scored at Old Trafford? He was a specialist 'homer' and barely got a sniff away from OT.

why is cb and lb a priority? at cb we have carra, skyrtel, agger, wilson , kelly, plus one or two more to cover. at lb we have robinson, aurelio, johnson, insua, kelly can play their as can agger and flanno.
and what kind of world class winger should/could we sign? one to sit on the bench and wait for downing and kuyt to get injured? or drop kuyt? really?

Well Ed(s), think that could be it now as far as transfers in are concerned, unless Fenway decide to give Kenny a luxury/superstar Marque signing. This could be anybody only way to know is to think like Kenny, who would he have? My personal choice would be Benzema, class act and can score goals. Never gonna happen now.
So everybody else who would be your 1 "Luxury" signing.........(only one).

People have gotten carried away and have become insatiable in their desire for a perfect squad. WE DONT NEED AND PROBABLY CANT AFFORD ANY MORE PLAYERS. we really need to get rid of players , the squad is too big now. but, isnt that a nice dilemma?

If kk can win the prem with blackburn then theres no exuses no offence to blackburn.
Cum on tho, lb, and cb, then break bk into top4 , then the leauge next season

16 Jul 2011 11:48:02
Just thinking. People think we may not be signing anymore players but I can't see how this can be true. I would say we need, lb, cb and reliable 10-15 goal a season back up striker.

Now the striker I think we can get away with cos we have Kuyt but the defensive positions should be looked at NOW.

Scenario - We get 4th place and CL next season. If we don't buy this year we will then have to pay top, top dollar cos teams will know we need to strengthen and will try and take the p1ss. Better to buy now, have the proper team with a year of playing together and probably not have to buy at all next season. We have the makings of the best squad we've had in many years, a good starting 11 and a very healthy bench - for this year when we are not in Europe. But I don't think we have the squad just yet to challenge for CL, the league and other domestic trophies after this season.

And before you all moan I am well happy with who we've signed, I think we only need 2 or 3 more signings to be set for the next few years and don't give me any bull about our youngsters being able to take up the slack. They need 1 or 2 more seasons before they make the 1st team.

What do you all think?

hi everyone .
i am a lifelong fan of liverpool i have been worried this transfer window if we wanted downing we should have gone for him earlier before ash young went to manc u after he went villa were not going to let downing go without a fight downing is not worth 20 mil his one attribute is the crossed ball .
i had hoped for a quick footed wide player who with quick feet can run into the box maybe draw a penalty or two also cross a ball .
i am watching the friendly match now on lfctv seems like the high ball to carroll is team orders even when other options available its not the way fast players atacking the other sides box is more productive c adam i have changed my mind about him there is promise there .
i hate over paying for players in one its less for our squad and it allows teams like villa to build to come back and bite us.
finally i desperately want a 19th premiership win this season as much as you all do my heart nearly broke may 2011.
be well all thank you

i for one think it would be a massive shame to let him go. {Ed002's Note - I don't know why he is not in the squad but I still expect him to leave this summer.}

16 Jul 2011 11:32:11
Hi Ed's. From reading Commoli's interview last night, it came across as if Liverpool are done in the market. I am staggered by this. Firstly, at the beginning I think 2 wingers were a must. We have signed 1 quality winger. CM were not a priority, and we have signed two of them. I don't see the logic. Surely a LB and CB would have been a priority. What I am asking. Do you think we are finished? If so, are you happy with what we have brought?

Red Kopite {Ed002's Note - Liverpool were never going to get the three wingers that the fans were craving and I suspect Henderson may play on the right with cover from Kuyt etc.. The priority now is to move the fringe players on - Mavinga is all but gone and I am told Jovanovic should be gone real soon. Several others need to hit the road before any further signings will likely be looked at. Perhaps a LB is no longer a priority as Macca has hinted. I would not be surprised to see another player or two arrive, but they may well just be squad players. Most importantly the effort must be made to clear the decks a little.}

16 Jul 2011 11:28:31
is the game still on? heard it was on espn, if so how can i watch online, , , , please? {Ed002's Note - HOW TO WATCH FOOTBALL ON THE INTERNET (WITH THANKS TO RED LENIN)
1. Install the browser Google Chrome.

2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.

3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.

4. Click on extensions

5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.

6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.

7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)

8. A small football will then appear in the top right (as you look at it). Click on that, select 'live stream' and reset the clock to GMT and it will list all the live games available all over europe and other places.

You may occasionally need to install other programmes or the link you pick will only work on Explorer (in which case cut and paste the URL into Explorer), but you will always get every EPL match (or any other). Sometimes you will only be able to find it with foreign commentary and sometimes you will get it in English. You'll get about thirty links and you may have to look through a lot of them to get what you want. You will also get most La Liga matches, Greek matches, Italian matches and French matches as well as top matches from South America.

Someone also asked about viruses etc. Google Chrome is actually far more secure than Internet Explorer so the risks are considerably less, but you should have decent virus/spyware programmes and run sweeps regularly as a matter of course.

The quality will also depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have super-speed and have a modern HD TV, consider connecting your PC to the TV via the PC socket on the side/ back.

Cut and paste the above into a document and save it for future reference.
}

With the emergence of both kelley and flanagan does anybody else think that johnson will be deployed as a right winger tracking back and covering very much the same as bale has done for spurs, i cant see kelley when fit being left of the starting 11, hes definatly the countrys future right back

16 Jul 2011 11:02:12
I like most red fans can only dream that Aguero would be our marquee signing, but reality says that Kenny and Liverpool are building a team that needs strength in all departments, not just a team of one man superstars. Kenny has already strengthened our attack with Suarez, Carroll the midfield has been bostered by Henderson, Adam and now Downing and a good back up keeper in Doni has the keepers position sorted.

It's now time for the defence, a quality left back and a quality centre back will be our next two signings. Once these two positions have been filled our overall re-vamp of our squad will be complete. We will then have cover, strength in depth and like for like in all positions. This does not however mean that we will not be finished in the transfer Market, if we manage to clearout most of the deadwood the club no longer requires and we generate more transfer funds then I believe maybe a transfer deadline day bargain maybe done.

The days of just relying on Stevie.G and been a one man team are now long gone, Kenny has and is building a TEAM of players who are all capable of contributing to a successfull team.

I cannot remember the last time I felt so good going into a new season. I would sooner have our team than a team like man city who have big egos and in house fighting and individual superstars who play for the money and not the club.

In Kenny we trust..

I'm sure there will be players going out because some players would like to play more and have more minutes. We will probably have a few loans as well, players who we would like them to develop, into the Championship or the leagues abroad. In terms of players coming in, it's difficult to say. I think we are going to sit down, look at the situation, see where we are, see who might leave and then we will reassess later. But we have done most of what we wanted to do.

- Comolli after Downing signing. In terms of big signings I think we are done fellow reds. I still think a natural left back and a decent back up striker is needed but with no Europe we are ok I think. I fancy come august city will have bought the league but I fancy us to do well this season. Come on redmen Gazman

If we can't find a LB at the right price then will we play Insua backed up by Robbo? I think Rafa put an awful lot of pressure on the young lad and I think if only as a sub he should be given another chance to prove himself at the club. -Mc

Insua is eating too much, he is ok in going forward but he can't track back & defend as a fullback. Better leave. Even if he is sold we have enough fullbacks ( Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan , Aurelio & Robinson)

16 Jul 2011 10:14:45
To everyone who is slagging Macca off. Couple of things:

1: if you think he is full of it, don't read his stuff, what is the point?

2: as he says, he didn't ask for his own page but try pooling your brain cells for a moment and think about it... why does he have his own page? Because more often than not he is spot on. The Eds are hardly going to give him his own page if he is mostly wrong.

3: You can't say he is jumping on a bandwagon, he does seem to know prior to others and a lot of our signings he has called weeks prior

4: he can't be right all the time (only my missus can, apparently) Benzema, he admits he was wrong but if (like most people) he didn't put his name on it we wouldn't know he is wrong. 100% or not he is happy to stick his name to it. This isn't Championship Manager, players, chairmen, managers et al change their minds, just because Benzema didn't come doesn't mean it wasn't very possible (don't forget, he was playing rubbish then had several good games, maybe changing opinions and minds) and as Macca posted it way before it had chance to happen there was always a chance it could fall through, it isn't as simple as offering a fee and a contract.

Macca, I have a source who is quite often right but also gets it wrong, doesn't mean I don't appreciate the nuggets he gives me (has won me some £), mind you, he told me Gary Cahill was coming within a week, I lost some £ there Have you heard anything about him coming?

Keep up the good work, don't let the pricks get you down.

Michael Bland

{Ed009's Note - he wants to play for us next season, and has probably instructed his agent to ward suitors off. If an interested club can be found, they will leave - and I am sure they know it really.}

Poulsen must know he has no future unless he plans to enjoy the pay day without playing If that's the case then he would certainly loose the national team spot.
Even Young Cornor Coady can do a better job then this expired Grand pa.

morning eds and fellow reds, i must say im really deflated this morning woke up to find out city are gona sign augero, nasri, to join clichy, total of bout 67m , while we have signed henderson, adam, downing for bout 45-50m and still need a lb, cb, rw, st, i think we need more pace on our wings eg if downing gets injured were back to square one again no wingers , and as for kenny buying brittish players ? how well have england done at international level ?crap , why? because the players are over rated so why buy average brittish players when for the money we could have signed top young forgein players eg harard, pjanic, mata, javi martinez, iker muninan, sahin, sahko, augero, luckaku, neymar, just a bit down this morning especally after dc saying were nearly finished signing players what u think lads , cheers jeff

Hi Eds, read this site allot great job love your knowledge but also your common sence, some rumours can be a bit mental. Less of a rumour more of a question. We have now signed Downing so maybe one or too signings left tops. But with regards the kids. Everyone of course is very excited. Enjoyed Robbo and Flanno last season but I truely believe Wisdom, Coady and Sterling are going to make as big an impact as Carra, Stevie and Owen. But how far away are they do u think? Still another season or could they be involved this term? Sterling is great down the wing could be a little light though. Any one else any opions?

Cheers lads {Ed009's Note - Personally i think that Wisdom and Sterling are further away than Coady. Coady could well feature as a regular substitue next season as he appears physically ready. Sterling is incredibly talented and he will probably get a few substitute appearances now and then, and maybe a few cup starts. Wisdom is, for me, a little naive still.}

"Augero is going to Man City Hopefully this will stop all the silly rumours about him coming to Anfield"

******************

What's silly about wanting the best players for our club?

It'll be a shame to see him go there. Bags of potential, and strenghtening city.

I thought he was a pool fan; that's what makes it a bit hard to swallow. Like the Turan case.

To compete with the best, you need to buy the best.

And City are looking very ambitious, to say the least.

How silly of them dreaming big

Chipkin9 (Eire)

PS: I don't think (And hoping he won't) he'll join either City or Chelsea...but time will tell.

Mornin eds n fellow lfc fans. Still adicted 2 the site, sum humours posts on here but it is only rumours and always worth a read. And the fact the news always breaks on here first b4 ssn (looks 2 my mates like i know wot im talkin about). made up with the current signings. I believe the crossing ability of downing and henderson will provide carroll with oppertunities (who imo is best aerial threat in prem and kuyt is no slouch in the air). adam set pieces will take pressure of steve g. Would like a decent solid lb and wud like dann 2 if poss as he's a fan. The fact tht downing took a apparent paycut shows he wants to play for the club which is a liverpool tradition which is being installed back under kk is promising too. Dont believe we need another stiker, be great if we got one but young coady has all the credentials, and unlike previous managers, kk will give them the oppertunity when he seems fit to. one last thing ed whats the chances out of 10, that u wont be using the rate the chances of gettin a player out of 10 again, when people ask?

ed do u think downing will play against bray on monday {Ed002's Note - Perhaps a cameo.}

hi ed, why is it that roy evans is so negative about liverpool.john barnes was so pleased about liverpools transfer activities, being one of our great players.evans should take his unjustified opinions and shove it. sa red

Hi Ed's. Got a question about squad no's.
On LCF offical site has now Insua & Aqua been given no. 98 & 99. Why's that? Is it just for the coming game in malaysia?
Im worried...

16 Jul 2011 08:52:40
i cant wait for the next few years when more of our youth players make it to the first team, exciting times ahead guys . By the way we dont need a "marquee" signing.Real Madrid had Marquee signings and they won very little.

16 Jul 2011 03:01:29
with doni signing i guess we will have a new range of goalkeeper shirts on sale, cool.it is cold, windy, wet and depressing in australia at the moment so i cant wait for the season to begin.i still dont get how our supporters can complain that we have signed suarez, carroll, henderson, adam, downing and doni since kenny and fsg have come in.we have one game a week to worry about, we arent in europe, and we have dropped massive points against the teams below us on the ladder in previous seasons.winning the epl is on the agenda NOW.come next year with champions lge football, kenny will then sign champions lge players.

16 Jul 2011 02:23:45
ed with the squad we have now , what do u think the position liverpool r going to be in at the end f the new season {Ed002's Note - I am sure that Liverpool will be looking to press for a Champions League place. It is impossible to sensibly predict positions.}

16 Jul 2011 02:02:32
I love it how Ed002 is so straight-forward with the 'No's' when people post up stupid rumours.
Furqan. {Ed002's Note - Post of the day.}

16 Jul 2011 01:51:20
hi ed, do you think with the signings we already have, (im happy if we dont sign anyone else)that it will be enough to keep pepe happy, or is he expecting a really big signing, jimmybosun, {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what will keep Reina happy or what was said to him. As I have said before, it is more likely that an overall commitment to the future and long-term plans were explained to him rather than him being to than Neymar, Ganos and Aguero would be joining.}

16 Jul 2011 01:47:30
Stewart Downing did not have two medicals. He had one half of his medical at Melwood with our head of sports medicine' Peter Brukner, and as our first team doctor Zaf Iqbal is away with the squad in Malasia Downing had to go to the hospital to be examined by a doctor. So rumours saying he failed his 1st medical are rubbish.

Hi Ed's just curious, after commolli has spoken and stated he doesn't know if any more signings will be made just players leaving, do you think there is truth in this or that it's smokescreen for something bigger? Just your general feelings are appreciated, thanks. {Ed002's Note - There are no smokescreens. The priority has to be players leaving. After that the situation can be re-assessed and perhaps someone will come in.}

Will everyone stop having a pop at Macca. Regardless of his accuracy (and it is very high by the way), this is a rumour site and it is entertaining to read and keeps a lot of people interested in our club.

Keep up the good work Macca, you are a rumour legend.

LFC spending is NOT finished but it's true there's a pause as priority signings have been secured. All now depends on sales. A few deals could be done in the next week or so - Mavinga, Jovanovic and possibly Joe Cole could all be off-loaded and although they won't raise much cash that will save a huge chunk off the wage bill. I've stated many times that Aquilani likely to be sold to Italy late in the window for a fee below £10m - some sort of deal involving Vargas is a POSSIBILITY but I'd say the most likely signing at this moment would be Scott Dann IF we can get him for around £8m with add-ons. IF Agger is sold for £10m+ then Dann will be the direct replacement. IF Ngog goes we'll probably sign a 4th choice striker - possibly the South Korean. We've spent the money earmarked for summer strengthening now - cash needs to be generated for further deals or big earners moved on.

All the hype about KK spending over 100Mil on transfers, will it is true it also is very short sighted you take the players brought in and players that were sold- BOUGHT 105mil-SOLD 58mil.that's a nett spend of 47mil I still believe players such as NGOG, POULSEN, JOVANAVICH, AQUILANI, COLE etc can still bring in another 15mil or so And while I do understand that selling these players will indeed need to be replaced by new signings its also worth to mention Salary that these players earn, some of them don't deserve to wear the badge on there chest yet they earn more then the new players brought in by KK also the fact they much better den the dead wood. KK always built a team of player working as a unit and playing as a team rarely super stars.he will gel LIVERPOOL into a team dat plays for the badge with pride and respect it damn deserves Not for the pay cheque end of the month Barcelona is a prime eg. Yes they do spend big, at times. Compared to REAL MADRID who seem to have an open cheque book. Comes end of the season. Well we both no Barcelona generally take every cup available. Barcelona play as a team. They brought in players from the youth rank and spend when do need arises. Liverpool now boast 1 of the best youth teams in E
England. So the future is bright. Names don't make a team. Players working as a unit do. Bil from South Africa

Comolli states ( on ssn ?) we are "nearing" the end of our transfer activity.
personally LB only will be the next incoming, then that will be it. With concentration put solely on outgoings.
Maybe, depending on the outgoings a surprise before the close of the window, but dont expect this to be from abroad so near to the end of the window EPL experience is the key for stability next season, so if we do pull a "marquee" turn your thoughts away from MATA, HIGUAIN, AGUERO, for this season anyways.
keep up the good work ED's , Macca ignore the pondlife on ere.

A question asked by lfctv after signing downing to commoli
Is there still work to be done, though?

It's difficult to say.

16 Jul 2011 07:46:23
DC says our transfer activity is nearing an end. (Meaning perhaps only 1 or 2 more new players.)

Jovanovic is in talks with Anderlecht.

And sorry to say it but Man City say they hope to sign Aguero and Nasri by the end of the month, so we can say goodbye to that rumour

16 Jul 2011 07:43:16
lfc have done well on the four signings so far. i think the right type of players for the squad. i do hope they get another winger in. as one is not going to carry us over the season. iam not so worred if they dont get a cb as we have the likes of kelly, wilson to fill in if need be. if agger manges to stay fit he is one of the best cb around.we do need to buy a lb that is for sure. i look at the squad now and its starting to look very strong. we still need to clear out a few. i still wonder if kk, dc have a bit of a surprise signing still to come as i dont think we are finshed in tranfer market yet. i think it may come towards the end of the window. i reckon they may get shot of a few first before anymore come in. least when they come back from the tour kk will have all his new signing and will have a few weeks to settle them in. iam really looking forward to the new season. i feel the good times are coming back.

I would be content if we didn't sign another player as we have recruited moderately well. What troubles me is when we will get rid of the deadwood. Quite a number need to go as they're useless and sucking the wage bill dry.

so eds this is just a question but what number will mr downing wear mate? and by the way what a quality signing, just look at his stats from last season they do not lie my friends , he's gonna b immense this season. but for the moaners out there who are not on the downing bandwagon yet , get aboard people before you look like you dont know your football or your club very well, remember when rush left and we bought aldo and people said he was gonna be average at best and he turned out to be a legend and thats because kk has a better eye for talent than any manager in the english game. Hello my fellow liverpool brethren as cheesy as that sounds haha I genuinely think we need to stop crying about price tags the brutal reality of it is im just glad we are able to spend 20 mil on players these days. Although without a doubt they are over priced the fact (to quote rafa) is we are able to do it nowadays is such a weight of our shoulders and lets be realistic we are liverpool and we will always be quoted more whether we like it or not it's gonna happen but from the h&g era we are a million times better off. I just wish although probably not realistic we can all just get back to being one family one unit one liverpool ps ed 2 you still crack me up you should be on a stage I love your humour legendary. Ps I still appreciate all the other eds also dont feel left out my little info darlings lol sorry for long speech slightly Intoxicated haha ;)

Thats nonsese im also from cork and if a fella is good enough at fifteen he will get a trial if he slips through the net at that age he will get picked up by local league of ireland team and then because loi teams are well scouted he will have the opportunity to go to england a bit later examples kevin doyle roy keane shane long just 2 name a few from cork area

Utter, utter rubbish
You are blinkered my boy
Utter rubbish
Kevin Doyle & Shane Long aren't from Cork City or County which is fairly lazy on your part, not to mention ignorant
Take it from someone who was actually in the situation i was actually talking about
Utter rubbish

Sorry man, but you are talking the nonsense here.
Try reading my post again before making such an ignorant post.
Kevin Doyle & Shane Long are not from Cork.
They played for Cork City but are from Wexford & Tipperary.
I am from a fairly remote part of Cork County & i can tell you now that we never had any scouts come to our matches in the 10 years i played there.
I think i'd know as i was there
We paid 2 Cork City players to do a summer camp with us once, that was it.
So it is you talking nonsense my nameless friend
What an ignorant so n so you must be

Hi Eds
At the beginning of the window there was a lot of talk here about signing 2 or 3 wingers, but now that we've signed Downing its starting to sound like there won't be anymore wingers signed. Surely the fact that Marveux has gone to NUFC should mean we'll be signing at least 1 more winger? Any thoughts on this? {Ed001's Note - we have two wide players signed already with Henderson and Downing, there might be more yet, but it is not as urgent as it was.}

Hi eds and all fans, I have not posted in a while but I do read all posts daily, I just want to say thankyou to the owners who have supported KK all the way and kept their word to the fans. I am very very happy with all the signings the team looks more balanced and all signing have prem experience who just come and play.
On a short note about Macca, he is a fan like all of us and is only trying to help if you read what he posts and like it fine if not fine as well and just move on.

Keep up the good work the best transfer window I can remember in a long time

Hey ed's et al..

Just wondering if Downing will head out to Asia or will he just meet up with the squad when they get back? I for one am really pleased with his signing.

Oh, and a quick other point, this Macca bashing is really sad, I know not everyone agrees with what he says and not all of it comes true but some does so therefore he's ahead of most of the rumours you get. As far as I can tell he gives the info he's got and somethings change and it doesn't happen but this happens to every club. Just my 2 cents anyway.

Cheers
JJ {Ed009's Note - I doubt it. We only have one more match there and it seems a pointless exercise in my mind. I suppose if he is there already then it is possible they could unveil him before the game.}

Seems that KK has been viewing this site from time to time and a lot of the posters on here have got exactly what they hoped for. Our new striker has passed a medical at Melwood and will join the team in Malaysia. Mark E. Syning cost LFC 30m from unknown Brazilian side Polopolopolo but has had the world talking about his in the same breath as Aguero, Neymar and Villa mainly due to his devastating finishing and his exceedingly high wage demands.
LFC executives posted a statement suggesting that it is a gamble they hope will pay off: "30m plus 5m per year is a large amount if Mark E. Syning get a bad injury or turns out to be pretty crap like Dzeko and Veron' said Mr Henry

Eds, I have been following this site for over three years now and honestly can't believe some of these negative comments towards macca, since he's been posting, the guy has got at least 70 percent of his posts right.. so to all the new people on here I suggest you stop posting ludicrous comments about macca because you clearly have no idea what he has brought to this site.. Cheers,
