What a joke of a comment by BR today. We need a marquee signing???

He's an absolute cretin in the transfer market.

He had his chance for so called marquee signing last year coming of the back of a solid season in the league and having secured champions league! So what did he do with his absolutely ridiculously large war chest. bought squad players.

The man just doesn't have an eye for a quality player - you don't need to spend a fortune to get a top, top player. you just need to know what to look for. Sadly he hasn't a clue.

Really disappointed with this season, i mean how can you seriously try to kick on with Ballotelli as your new striker. ffs!

Unless someone seriously sorts the team out from back to front we are up the creak without a paddle. again.

Here's to another 'rebuilding' season. Only been happening for the last 15 years!

The biggest joke is we had all the cards in our hand to make a deal happen with Sanchez.

Rodgers hasn't a clue in the transfer market. Everyone goes on about the transfer team, but in his first year I'm sure his own signings included Borini and Allen?

We need a top quality manager, someone with an eye for talent and will give our great youth team the chance to thrive in the first team squad.

Klopp I would guess is beyond our reach? As much as we'd all love for it to happen. In my eyes, De Boer would be fantastic for us. His backroom team has a host of football legends, and he's not shy for giving youth a chance in the team.

Audio, you can't be serious. We tried to get Sanchez, and he wanted Arsenal. We didn't have "all the cards in our hand."

We had £75 mill in our pockets we should have blew arsenal out of the water do you think if arsenal had Suarez and wanted Sanchez we would have got him no chance not in a million years

{Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that - the player had zero interest in moving to Liverpool.}

29 Apr 2015 16:38:48
So agree with AudioGorrilla, DeBoer would be my choice too

29 Apr 2015 16:41:25
"Either sanchez signs for us or you don't get Suarez" would probably have done the trick

{Ed002's Note - Should should start your answers with "I don't understand how transfers work at all but ..."}

Sanchez wasn't going to happen, but LFC should have had better back-up options and that they didn't.

29 Apr 2015 17:28:25
I'm sure Liverpool knew very early on that Sanchez was never going to happen. Should have targeted a realistic target, if you can't replace with what you need then don't replace at all and give chances to what's already in your squad. A borini desperate to be given a run in the team after snubbing Sunderland would have been better than buying ballotelli for any amount of money.

I understand what happened entirely the player wanted to go to a nicer place than Liverpool but he didn't go to the nicest place he could have (Monaco) he went to an okay place with a team that were in for him. If intstead he was told its Liverpool or nowhere which barca could have done (with us holding all the cards) we had a player they wanted they had one they didn't want and that wanted to move it should have been very easy for barca to convince him 200 miles north isn't actually too different lad. He assessed his options and chose North London (awful place). His options should have been controlled by barca at our request no doubt about it

Last summer was the time to get the marquee signing, we could offer CL and coming off a good season.
In previous windows we heard "it's hard to attract big names without CL" but now it would seem that Brendan thinks this will be possible. However he does state "within budget & within our framework" so that rules out most "marquee" signings then!
Agree with most people on here that we should dispense with Brendan to start with. He does not be able to inspire the team, is questionable in transfer market, stubborn in his team selection & tactics plus a embarrassment in press conferences. He seems to have lost the dressing room, losing is not ideal, but it's how you lose & this year we have had little fight when we lose.
If at all possible I would chase Klopp, as he will be a free agent so I would guess no compensation would be payable to Dortmund so would offset any sum we would have to fork out to shift BR

Players do have contracts you know? Agents, the lot! Not to mention a mind of their own! You can't tell players who to sign for!

29 Apr 2015 18:17:05
Transfers don't work like that as the Eds have said. Blackmailing a player to move to a place/club he has no interest was never going to work out. What if he signed for LFC while he didn't fancy playing for us, and turned in performances like Balotelli's? That simply wasn't the solution, and LFC were not a position to make demands with Suarez adamant that he will not stay and wanted to leave.

Additionally, I don't for a second believe that Sanchez chose Arsenal over LFC because just of Geography; the fact that Arsene Wenger is a far better manager than Rodgers has probably something to do with it too.

29 Apr 2015 18:30:40
Players aren't slaves, song, you can't force them to go somewhere against their will. Sanchez had no interest, it is what it is. The problem is, as AG says, why our list went from A(lexis) to B(alotelli). Only thing I can think of is they went in alphabetical order as nothing else makes sense.

Still deflecting and spinning as usual. Did he comment on how dreadful we`ve been since the City game? NO! Did he comment on how we just rolled over vs Hull when we just played a game like a practice match or with no desire and guts? NO! All he did was deflect and in some ways, remove himself from the transfer debacle he has overseen by making that stupid comment. By making such a comment, he just indicted the owners` intelligence as well because afterall, he conned them into releasing the funds when he knew they didn`t trust him with money to begin with BUT had to because they wanted success this year. If he thinks the owners would take kindly to a man whose belief system is the "I confess, he did it" mantra, he is dreaming.

So if we accept we were never going to get Sanchez, who are these other direct replacements for Suarez that people say we should have signed?
Aguero? Messi? Ronaldo? Neymar? Hazard? I don't think we had any chance of signing a direct replacement for Suarez. We had no choice but to try and improve the squad.
However, we made a pig's ear out of that.

{Ed001's Note - we could have tried to improve the team, not the squad. The squad would have been improved simply by having players that had been first team sat on the bench anyway. Only a fool buys squad players when the team is not complete.}

30 Apr 2015 09:43:54
We had to do both because we were competing in more competitions this season.
